What do you like best?

It is very feature rich. The same platform is used to backup virtual machines (on multiple different virtualization platforms), physical machines at the file level as well as the image level.

The interface is very intuitive which makes training our staff and creating internal documentation easy. Job functions are efficient and stable, which greatly reduces the amount of management time our staff needs to invest in the backups we manage.

We have always been able to restore our documents - 100% of the time. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

There is nothing I dislike about the product. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Backup software in general can be a beast. I highly recommend allocating out some time and deploy a trial in your environment. Truly test all the functions of the product. I believe you will find VembuBDR to be one of the best, most complete backup solutions on the market today. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Reduced the amount of hours our staff needs to invest into managing backups.

The synthetic full technology (retention) works great and has reduce the amount of space our backups consume by over 30%.

It is an overall easy product to use/manage, which greatly increases our engineering teams moral as it relieves stress over failed backups. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

I like it's reliable scheduled replication and backup to offsite disk.

I can easily transfer VM to a backup point at any time.

The Failover and Failback function let me have different choices to recover, like is it permanent transfer or temp one, and return to a replicate version. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

I can't change task name once it's created. I need to delete old task, so I can set a new task name while creating a new task.

The Failover and Failback is based on that source VM is corrupt or off, so when I click failover, Vembu will turn on target VM, meanwhile doesn't force the

source powered off. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Sometimes VM works no well while applied an update, I can easily failover to a replicated point.

Failover is fast, in seconds. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

First and foremost the value you get for the price you pay is great. Vembu is a competitive product to Veeam and Nakivo, yet the pricing is much more pleasant. Also, my support experience with them has been good. They were responsive (even while I was trialing the product) both times I've contacted them. I'm also unsing Vembu to backup to tape, which is great that this is included in the BDR Suite (no add-ons required). Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

If you have very unique and somewhat random backup scheduling needs, Vembu doesn't do that too well. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Vembu is a great choice if you're backing up VMs to disk/arrays/SAN/NAS/tape. Also look into their Offiste DR offering. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

The main benefit I've realized is less time Administering backups - creating and changing them is quick. Another very positive benefit is that I've been able to do additional backups since Vembu does the deduplicating/compression natively. Oh, and the storage encryption is all there (and I use my own keys for that). Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

As an MSP we looked into a variety of different DR and backup products to accomplish some goals we had in our DR strategy.

Our biggest challenge was to find a vendor that would allow for us to host our own backups (both for our own infastracture but also to sell as a service to our clients). Vembu ticked the boxes well for low cost of entry and license fee structure and gives you the ability to host your own backup data or if you want use their cloud storage. We are now on our second iteration of our BDR server as the old server could no longer accomidate the storage or performance needs that our growing DR SaaS offering demanded. Support has been very responsive and helpful even in situations where configuration of the hosts or client side machines might have been on contributing factor to whatever issue may have been causing a backup to fail to complete. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

BDR and OffsiteDR (the 2 major components of Vembu's product) had a slight learning curve that seemed a bit touch and go to adobt initially. We have been using vembu for 4 years and the product, support, and documentation have developed and matured a great deal since we first came online with them. Online video demos and whitepapers vembu has did get us through most of the questions and configuration challenges during early onboarding, but it has taken some time to really fully comprehend and understand the in's and out' of the software as a whole. Possibly some onboarding assistance would be great for new MSP's looking to use Vembu in the way that we are would be great to offer. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Dont hesitate to ask their support for help if you are needing assistance, but send complete lists of questions compiled and clearly stated. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Vembu has been able to solve our need of using their product as an MSP SaaS offering to our customer base, while allowing us to host all of the customers data internally with a product that makes sense for our business model. With a lower cost to entry over its short list of competitors the SaaS we have created out of the Vembu product has been profitable for us to the metrics that we had placed around DR SaaS in our suite of services portfolio. What do you like best?

It is easy to setup and monitor the backup jobs. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

The interface is a little confusing at first. However, after working in it a little, it becomes more familiar. Also the restore process can seem complicated as far as the options provided. Highly suggest reading the user guides on this product. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

For the cost, you cannot beat this product for what it does. Definitely study up on the user guides when starting to use this product. It will help in navigating the interface and understanding the functions immensely. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

When you choose to restore a hard drive to a VM you can choose to mount it as if you added a VMDK in vmware. This allows Windows to pick up the hard drive and unlock it with bitlocker easily. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Vembu has solved our backup problems of multiple VMWare hosts in two locations. Backing up continuous incrementals across the VPN using changed block addressing is working rather well. We have also setup a full backup over the VPN to happen on the weekend. It should be noted that we are backing up a Linux phone system here not a monster file store. What do you like best?

We have been migrating clients from VEEAM to Vembu at a steady rate. Vembu has a consistent and affordable price point versus the ridiculous scaling costs of other solutions on the market. Also a huge bonus is they offer a solution that is a VM appliance that is easy to install and implement. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

The interface and licensing can be a bit clunky to work through at times. as a web interface the cache on the browser can occasionally cause conflict with license change or backup changes. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Key value for Vembu is price point. Backup and replication is pretty straightforward for all applications; so the key is value for dollars, not bells and whistles that you will never use. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

The remote backup job was a bit disappointing from a performance standpoint. The restore job, however was done in a flash and up and running in minutes. Something you would really want when you are in dire straits. Getting up and running using the appliance was quite easy. You do have to request the appliance though. Configuring a backup or replication job is quite easy. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

The interface is inconsistent with the status screens as a low point. You really have to go look for the right one and even then Vembu recommends to keep them closed for performance reasons. A bit odd, in my opinion. The whole interface experience has a bit of a learning curve that may not be for everyone. An interface designer would certainly have some tips and tricks here. Not being able to configure network drive mounts to central storage from within the interface is really a lack of functionality and a serious fail. You need serious Linux CLI skills to make that part work properly and you can't really go live without it. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

All in all it does what it needs to do, it has some quirks and it does leaves things to wish for. But it also does some stuff really great and if that is what you’re looking for, this might be a solution for you. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Vembu facilitated the daily backups of files we were working on and were updated every day. In order to avoid file loss, I chose to use Vembu, as it was recommended by other colleagues. Easy to navigate interface. Setting up VM backups for disaster recovery is straightforward and works great. I receive image integrity reports showing the boot status of the backed up VMs and I can perform a manual test recovery in a few minutes. Quick and relatively easy deployment. I've used the free version to backup a tiny two-node Hyper-V HA cluster. Installation was a breeze and in less then an hour, everything worked as planned. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I manage a few small HA clusters at different sites across the country that, in essence, run just a single application on one VM. The application has to run on-site and on-line backups are not practical (limited bandwidth) in some cases and not possible in others. What do you like best?

We have been using Vembu for years and the BDR suite is an example of the excellent software we have come to expect from Vembu. It has the features we are looking for, but most important of all, it is stable. We tried multiple vendors through the years until we finally came across his company. We stayed with them because when we need to do a restore and when we do our routine check, the backups of run in the data is there. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

Had a couple of problems with the upgrade to the BDR suite because previous version did not uninstall properly. Fortunately, support was great and the problem was resolved quickly. Of course, the problems were possibly, maybe even probably, caused by the Microsoft OS being flaky. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

It's excellent software that is comprehensive enough to meet the needs of various types of clients and most every scenario. Plus is stable and the company continually makes upgrades to fit the changing circumstances of our business. The price is certainly fair. So after years of using it with multiple clients, I can strongly recommend it. I've been in this business for 25 years so I know a good thing when I see it. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Hi Sotiris,

Thank you for your feedback.

Vembu uses the changed block tracking method to perform incremental & sends only the changed data to the backup server. As of now, we're not skipping the changes that happen in the system files while backup. Hence, large incremental can be because of changes in the system files or because of some possible issues in the environment.

I've not found anything I dislike with the product as yet, we've tested in a DR situation and that worked great, the licensing is easy to understand and manageable. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Like I said, we lost all confidence in the other backup tools we were using as they failed on us at the critical times. Now we have a automated solution that just works in the background. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
