## Security testing Reviews
  ### 1. Security Testing as an organisational view

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Raj kumar S. | Security Analyst - VAPT, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 22, 2021

**Describe the project or task Security testing helped with:**

We got lot of projects which belongs to a very different buisnesses sector like, retailers, pharmacy, online service providers, media entertainment, Financial Institutions, Banking services etc. We also have projects from Government organizations from different parts of the world.
Based on the business model and deployment model and the scope we have to perform our assessments. This will include Pentesting of applications. So there are various application types based on the development technologies and on which device it will run. Then we have Internal and External Network Assessment. Segmentation testing is also included in this, where you have lots of VLANS in the organisation. Red Team assessment, for moderate to large organisations. All this assessment is to make assure the organisation is secure till date and fulfill various criteria like PCI,HIPAA and other auditors benchmark to run their businesses and organisations.

**What do you like best about Security testing?**

My personal interest is in Application (web, mobile, thickclient, API) security and Network VA.

**What do you dislike about Security testing?**

Still many people believe that they don't need for their businesses or Organisation until they get a set back. The organisation who is opting the security testing has not implemented successfully as a part of their work culture. Sometimes it becomes very challenging to make understand other departments like development, DB etc how this could be vulnerable. Because of lack of security awareness. Some people hacking is a magic which can be done in a second by typing some commands and hit Enter. Cybersecurity itself has very large coverage, one can't be a expert in everything.

**Recommendations to others considering Security testing:**

IT is highly recommended if you think your business is critical.

**What problems is Security testing solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Securing the businesses by securing their applications and network. The organisation opting security testing on regular basis, it becomes easy for us to understand the infrastructure and technologies of the organisation and hence helps us to secure in a more better way.

  ### 2. Security Testing - Pros and Cons

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ashish G. | Senior System Analyst - QA, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 17, 2021

**Describe the project or task Security testing helped with:**

Security Vulnerability assessment of Web applications and Rest APIs.

**What do you like best about Security testing?**

1. It can identify a range of security vulnerabilities and threats
2. It generates trust in customers
3. Various open source and licensed tools are available to conduct the active/passive scans like OWASP ZAP, Burp Suite, Accunetix etc

**What do you dislike about Security testing?**

1. Sometimes scan results are false positive or false negative
2. Small mistakes can be costly and cause a lot of damage
3. Scan results assessment should be done very carefully

**Recommendations to others considering Security testing:**

Security testing should be an integral part of the testing life cycle and should be conducted before any major production release.
Security testing can be started with manual testing like covering authorization and authentication part and then move to automates scans covering top 10 vulnerabilities guidelines published by OWASP. OWASP Zed Attack Proxy is a good open-source tool to conduct Active/passive scans on any web application.

**What problems is Security testing solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Security testing is useful to identify the security vulnerabilities in the web application. It can be done in a manual and automated way using various tools. Majorly the threats can be categorized in the OWASP top 10 security threats which have certain recommendations to be followed in application design and coding practices, server configurations etc.
It is desired and sometimes mandatory to conduct security tests for various software products before these are out in the market. It builds trust with customers. It is possible that a small unidentified threat can cause a major financial loss so security testing should be done thoroughly and with utmost care.

  ### 4. Security testing to keep up with security standards personally and professionally.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer & Network Security | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 29, 2021

**Describe the project or task Security testing helped with:**

As a security analyst I have worked on Web application DAST which ensures the flawless and more importantly secure functioning of the applications. It's based on the Confidentiality, Integrity and Authenticity of the Data. Through security testing organizations evaluate their products (applications or application codes) for vulnerabilities and take remedial measures for the same. I mostly use a Burp Suite tool as an interceptor for manually testing an application.

**What do you like best about Security testing?**

The feature like active scanning of security tools helps in finding new vulnerabilities regularly and the satisfaction of securing the application grows. It encourages me to keep learn something new about security every time.

**What do you dislike about Security testing?**

Sometimes it becomes little difficult to cope up with the new vulnerabilities regularly which might lead to not noticing severe vulnerability into the application.

**What problems is Security testing solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I'm taking the data security measures which helps an organization from accidental disclosure of sensitive data. By maintaining the integrity and confidentiality of data it helps organization to get aligned to legal and compliance standards.

  ### 5. Security Testing Review By Professional

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Banking | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 27, 2021

**Describe the project or task Security testing helped with:**

Security Testing should be mandatory for every Web, Mobile,Api etc application. The number of vulnerabilities which you can find in the initial phase of application SDLC is high. Because of this reason time,Cost,And In depth chance of finding Vulnerabilities are high. So I highly recommend security Testing plays a vital role

**What do you like best about Security testing?**

We have more scope to find vulnerabilities and in depth analysis can be done. By finding Vulnerabilities at the initial stage of SDLC should be taken as high priority

**What do you dislike about Security testing?**

If it's a very big application. The time to analyse code will be very tough.it will take weeks to analyse as more false positives issues can be found. Tools has to be way more specific

**What problems is Security testing solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Finding more vulnerabilities. In depth analysis. Cost affective because we are fixing issues in the start of SDLC. Time to fix vulnerabilities will be easier. There is more scope to find vulnerabilities

  ### 6. In world full of technologies connected over Internet, Security Testing is must.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 14, 2021

**Describe the project or task Security testing helped with:**

Till now, I have employed security testing over many web application and networking projects. Crypto exchange applications, dynamic functionality applications, static WordPress applications and blogging sites are just few of them. Even embedded devices like, Modern toys and house-hold devices also require security testing. The main goal in any scenario or application is always the threat vector. There shouldn't be any misconfigurations or known vulnerabilities that could risk the confidentiality, integrity and availability of the organization or of the target application.

**What do you like best about Security testing?**

Security Testing is essential for every software or hardware device that is linked to the internet. It may be a question of choice when it comes to safeguarding oneself, but not when you are dealing with other's sensitive data and resources of third-party organizations. A single zero-day exploit or known vulnerability might result in massive data loss or a denial of service attack. In many nations, putting their resident's data at danger can result in large penalties, restrictions, or bans.

**What do you dislike about Security testing?**

Although security testing lessens the danger of cyber security threats, it does not guarantee it. Many internal attack vectors can be exploited through social engineering. User awareness is essential. Employees within the business, particularly those dealing with sensitive data and resources, must be encouraged not to engage in illicit actions. New vulnerabilities and attacks will emerge over time. Security testing should be performed on a regular basis, if not manually, then by the use of automated methods, which raises the organization's costs.

**What problems is Security testing solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Security testing definitely awares you with the attack vectors in your application. It also introduces you to the configurations and components to implement and to avoid. Once you have your application tested, you get the confidence to enter the battlefield.
