    Notepad++ review by Vincent O.
    "Notepad++ comes in handy for small edits: Notepad++ is a very light application which takes very little space on your computer and requires a very small amount of RAM to run. It therefore has very little impact on the performance of your machine unlike most code editors which might make the machine lag, Also despite being very simple and light, notepad++'s functionality can be extended to do so very many things even those that are handled exclusively by full IDEs. I also like the fact that you can change the look and feel of the editor to satisfy your aesthetic needs."

  4. Sublime Text is a sophisticated text editor for code, markup and prose. You'll love the slick user interface, extraordinary features and amazing performance.

    Sublime Text review by Vincent O.
    "Sublime text is the best code editor I've ever used: Almost everything about sublime text is excellent. The app is lightweight thus has very little effect on your computer's performance. Sublime text's functionality can be extended easily to support other languages that it does not support by scripting using python or by importing textmate's keybindings and menus. Furthermore, if there is a functionality that does not exist other developers always implement them in the form of plugins that are free to download. Finally, the fact that you can run sublime text from a usb stick without installing it on a machine is quite helpful as you can edit your files anywhere with your own customizations."

    Visual Studio Code review by Taveras P.
    "Visual Studio with integrated terminal!: This could be the only IDE I use. I always try to use this IDE with any project that I can code, regardless of the language. It is just so comfy and light! One of the best features it has is the terminal, which is great for my node.js projects and Angular projects, which do benefit a lot because of the CLI for those. The Git integration is awesome and the folder structure. But what is great is that people like it and there are a bunch of plugins that are available that make this IDE even greater!!"

    GNU Emacs review by Jan P.
    "If you're old, you probably love it!: Emacs has been around forever. It is extremely extensible. Anything you can do, you can probably do in Emacs. The old joke was that Emacs had everything but the kitchen sink, so emacstool's icon was a kitchen sink. I like that it is consistent and I've been using it so long my fingers know their way around it. I can do pretty much anything anyone can do with their fancy IDEs."

  30. Looking for a powerful editor without all the advanced functionality an IDE comes with? Komodo Edit is for you.

    Komodo Edit review by Seth O.
    "It's a decent PHP code editor. : First of all, for a software with it's design and features, it's hard to believe that it's 100% free. Yet it is. That means that it offers me cost-effective solutions to creating robust, secure, and effective PHP web apps and sites. The design is yet another important aspect to consider. Komodo Edit has a charming User Interface, everything is properly spaced, and the color themes are also quite comfortable. And you can even modify them if you want to. You may also like the fact that you can use Komodo for more than just editing PHP files. It supports over 25 coding languages including XML, Perl, Node.js, AngularJS, JSON, Django, Ruby, CSS, SCSS, HTML5, Python, C++ and so much more. "

It also has options to separate by commas or by tabulator."

    Text Edit Plus review by Gary T.
    "Really fun text editor to play with: ASCII art, line, and content randomization, background and font customization. Sometimes work can get very stressing, this is the kind of program you use to relax after coding for a few hours and finding that the mistake was a missing ; The price of the license is worth less than 4 cups of coffee. I even buy a copy for a friend so we can mess with the ASCII art feature and relax from developing for a while."
