## Sophos Email Reviews
  ### 1. Hands-Off Email Security with Accurate Phishing Protection in Sophos Email

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** kaushal p. | Network Security Engineer, Computer & Network Security, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 16, 2026

**What do you like best about Sophos Email?**

As the admin managing email security for our organisation, what stands out most is how much Sophos Email does quietly in the background without needing constant babysitting. Once policies are configured, spam and phishing detections consistently accurate, and the quarantine digest emails give end users a simple way to release legitimate messages without opening a ticket with IT.

The Time-of-Click URL protection and attachment sandboxing have caught a number of phishing attempts that would otherwise have ended in inboxes. Because it's part of Sophos Central, I get one dashboard alongside our endpoint and firewall policies, which cuts down on the number of consoles I have to check every day.

I also like performance, I haven't noticed any lag in mail delivery, which was a concern going in. Some gateway filtering products add a noticeable delay, but we haven't seen that there.

**What do you dislike about Sophos Email?**

Reporting is the weakest part of us. The built-in reports cover the basics, but if I need something specific for a specific for a leadership review, I end up exporting data and rebuilding it in a spreadsheet anyway. A more flexible report builder would save me that extra step.

Pricing is also not something you can just look up you have to go through a partner or rep to get real numbers, and the tiering isn't always obvious upfront. It looks a couple of conversations with our reseller to understand what we were actually paying for.

New admins on the team have needed a bit of ramp-up time too it's not hard once you've used it a few weeks, but the first week involves a fair amount of clicking around to find where a setting actually lives.

**What problems is Sophos Email solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Before we put Sophos Email in place, our team was fielding a steady stream of "is this email legit?" forwards, and every so often someone would click something they shouldn't have. That's dropped off significantly - Phishing attempts, spoofed sender attacks, and malicious attachments are mostly getting caught before they ever land in an inbox, so I'm not spending my week doing damage control on preventable incidents.

It's also caught a couple of business email compromise attempts on the outbound side, where an account started sending unusual messages - Sophos flagged it before it turned into bigger mess with a client or vendor. That kind of catch alone justifies the subscription cost for us.

Because it's integrated with the rest of our Sophos Central setup, I also get a more complete picture when something does get flagged - I can see if the same threat touched endpoint or firewall logs without switching tools. And since performance hasn't taken a hit and support has been solid whenever we've needed to fine-tune a policy, it's one less thing on my plate to actively worry about day to day.

  ### 2. Sophos Email Reliable Multi-Layer Email Protection with Centralized Management

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ansh B. | Associate Security Engineer, Capital Markets, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 15, 2026

**What do you like best about Sophos Email?**

What I like about Sophos Email is the accuracy and reliability of its threat detection across multiple attack vectors phishing, malware, spam, and impersonation attempts are handled effectively without requiring constant manual tuning or rule adjustments. The AI-powered phishing detection is a particular standout, catching sophisticated social engineering attempts and business email compromise (BEC) attacks that traditionally slip past basic spam filters by mimicking legitimate communication patterns.

The Time-of-Click URL protection is another genuinely valuable feature in a real-world environment. Links in emails are re-evaluated at the moment a user clicks them rather than just at the point of delivery, which means even URLs that were clean on arrival but later weaponized are still caught they can do defense, that extra layer can do damage. For environments where end users are the last line of defense, that extra layer of protection is operationally significant.

Integration with Sophos Central makes the management experience clean and consistent. Policy configuration, quarantine management, allow and block lists and reporting are all handled from the same console used for endpoint and other Sophos products, which reduces context switching and keeps the overall administrative overhead manageable. For an IT admin handling email security across multiple client environment, that unified management experience is a meaningful day-to-day advantage.

**What do you dislike about Sophos Email?**

While Sophos Email is a reliable email security platform, there are some friction points that surface in day-to-day administration. The most consistent pain point is false positives legitimate emails, particularly those from bulk senders, automated notification systems, or less common international domains, occasionally get quarantined without clear reasoning. End users frequently escalate these as missed emails, and tracing why a specific message was flagged and configuring the right exclusion to prevent recurrence takes more effort than it should.

The quarantine management experience, while functional, could be significantly improved. End users receive quarantine digest emails and can release messages themselves, but the self-service portal is not particularly intuitive for non-technical users, leading to frequent helpdesk tickets from people who can't figure out how to release their own quarantined emails. A cleaner, more guided end-user experience would reduce that administrative burden considerably.

Reporting is another area that feels underdeveloped relative to the depth of data the platform collects. The out-of-box reports cover the basics but lack the granularity and customization options needed for detailed security audits or executive level reporting. Building meaningful insights beyond the default dashboards requires manual data extraction and significantly efforts that shouldn't be necessary on a platform at this level.

Delayed email delivery during peak processing periods is also worth mentioning, in environments with high email volumes, there are occasional noticeable delays in message delivery caused by scanning queues, which can impact time-sensitive business communications and leads to end user complaints that are difficult to explain without diving into backend processing logs.

**What problems is Sophos Email solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Sophos Email solves one of the most persistent and high-risk challenges in IT security protecting users from email-borne threats that bypass traditional spam filters and exploit human trust rather than technical vulnerabilities. Phishing, business email compromise, and malicious attachment delivery remain among the leading causes of security incidents across organization of all sizes, and Sophos Email addresses all three with a layered detection approach that goes well beyond basic signature matching.

From a practical administration standpoint, it solves the impersonation and BEC problem that causes the most damage in real-world environments. Attackers spoofing executive email addresses or mimicking trusted vendor domains are caught by the AI-powered detection engine before they reach the end user's inbox, which directly reduces the risk of fraudulent wire transfers, credential theft, and unauthorized access stemming from successful phishing attempts.

The Time-of-Click URL protection solves a specific gap that many email security solutions leave open URLs that are clean at delivery but later weaponized, in environments where users click links without scrutinizing them carefully, having that second layer of evaluation at the point of click rather than just at delivery is a meaningful risk reduction that has prevented potentially damaging incidents from escalating.

From an operational standpoint, centralizing email security management within Sophos Central alongside endpoint and other security products has reduced the number of consoles the team needs to monitor daily. Correlated visibility across email and endpoint telemetry means faster investigation when an incident does occur, and consistent policy enforcement across the environment is easier to maintain and audit, Overall Sophos Email has meaningfully strengthened our email security posture while keeping the administrative overhead manageable for a lean IT team.

  ### 3. Simple and Effective Email Protection

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mahendra Kumar R. | Cyber Security Analyst, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**What do you like best about Sophos Email?**

Sophos Email is that it does a great job of blocking spam, phishing emails, and other email threats before they reach users. It's easy to manage through the dashboard, and the setup is straightforward. The reporting is also clear, making it easy to track blocked emails and monitor overall email security.

**What do you dislike about Sophos Email?**

One thing that could be improved is the reporting and search functionality, as finding older emails can sometimes take a little longer than expected. It would also be helpful to have more advanced customization options for policies and notifications. Overall, though, these are minor improvements, and the product performs well for day-to-day email security.

**What problems is Sophos Email solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Sophos Email helps us protect our organization from spam, phishing attacks, malware, and other email-based threats. It reduces the number of unwanted emails reaching users, which lowers the risk of security incidents and improves productivity. It also gives our IT team better visibility into email activity and makes it easier to manage email security from a single dashboard.

**What problems is Sophos Email solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Sophos Email solves the problem of protecting organizations from email-based threats such as phishing, malware, and business email compromise. It helps me reduce the risk of users falling for attacks, and it also keeps inboxes cleaner by filtering out spam.

  ### 5. Sophos Email Security – A Smart Shield for Modern Communication

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** pawan m. | Technical Engineer, Information Technology and Services, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 05, 2025

**What do you like best about Sophos Email?**

What I truly appreciate about Sophos Email Security is how effortlessly it blends protection with simplicity. The system quietly does its job in the background — filtering out spam, phishing attempts, and malicious attachments — without interrupting normal workflow. The AI-driven threat detection is remarkably accurate, and the quarantine summary emails are clear and actionable. It gives both IT and end users a sense of confidence that every message coming in or going out is being watched over intelligently.

**What do you dislike about Sophos Email?**

There’s not much to complain about. If I had to mention something, it would be that the initial policy setup takes a bit of planning to get right for different user groups. But once the policies are in place, it’s mostly hands-free and maintenance-free.

**What problems is Sophos Email solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Sophos Email Security has solved our biggest concern — targeted phishing and spoofing attacks. Before deployment, we used to deal with frequent suspicious emails that looked legitimate. Now, such emails rarely make it through. It also helps us maintain compliance and safeguard sensitive data by preventing accidental data leaks through email.

  ### 6. Strong Email Security with Smart Threat Detection.

I particularly like the automated threat analysis and the real-time alerts, which help us respond quickly to any suspicious activity. The quarantine management is easy for end-users to handle, and setting up domain and user-level policies was straightforward. Overall, it’s a reliable solution that runs quietly in the background without causing disruption.

**What do you dislike about Sophos Email?**

Sometimes the system can be a bit aggressive and flag important emails as suspicious, which requires manual review. Additionally, the reporting interface could be more modern and flexible for advanced analytics. Learning all the settings for granular control may take some time for new administrators.

**What problems is Sophos Email solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Sophos Email Security prevents malicious emails from reaching users, significantly lowering the risk of phishing attacks and malware infections. It helps us enforce company policies and maintain regulatory compliance. By automating threat detection and quarantine, it reduces the workload on our IT team and ensures employees can focus on their work without email-related security concerns.

  ### 7. Smart Email Security That Works Silently in the Background

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Shiv K. | Technical Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 24, 2025

**What do you like best about Sophos Email?**

Sophos Email has given us peace of mind by filtering out phishing attempts, business email compromise, and spam before they even reach our inboxes. The integration with Sophos Central is seamless, and the policies are easy to set up and adapt. The biggest plus is that it works silently in the background — our users don’t even realize how much risk is being blocked daily.

**What do you dislike about Sophos Email?**

Honestly, there’s not much to dislike. If anything, I’d say the reporting dashboard could be a bit more user-friendly for non-technical staff, but the depth of information it provides is excellent for IT admins.

**What problems is Sophos Email solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It solves the constant problem of phishing, spam, and targeted attacks slipping through. Before Sophos, we spent hours investigating suspicious emails. Now, threats are blocked automatically, and suspicious messages are quarantined with clear alerts. The benefit is huge time savings, fewer security incidents, and stronger confidence in our email communications.

Sophos Email protects our company from spam, phishing, and malicious emails. This reduces the risk of security breaches and saves our team time since we don’t have to deal with unwanted emails manually. **What do you dislike about Sophos Email?**

The product sometimes misclassifies spam and phishing as safe, though all email protection products struggle with this. The reverse of this issue can sometimes occur with safe emails, quarantining them. These two issues can be resolved over time by teaching the product what domains/senders are safe and unsafe. Directory service syncs with on prem AD and Entra can only be performed at the fastest every 6 hours. The ability to sync more often would be a plus.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jeremy C. | IT Manager, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 11, 2022

**What do you like best about Sophos Email?**

The interface is great, and the ease of setup with Pro services was very quick and easy. In minutes we were set up with DKIM, DMARC, and end-to-end encryption whereas our previous vendor was not able to do any of that. We also get banners in our email now to show trusted and questionable emails and to alert us that it is external. Also, those banners get stripped out when sending a reply due to our smart hosting out through Sophos. Also Link replacement is a huge value add too be able to know the links in emails have been replaced and will get scanned by clicking on email links.

**What do you dislike about Sophos Email?**

We seem to get some more erroneous emails than before but nothing to get upset about as we can easily block and report the emails as spam. The lookup of emails is a little strange and you constantly have to click update when you want to search.

**What problems is Sophos Email solving and how is that benefiting you?**

End-to-end encryption is a must, DMARC, DKIM, and other email security features were needed in today's security environment, and the ability to correlate end users' emails and endpoint protection is an amazing technology and works to tighten security for people receiving questionable emails and clicking on links.

  ### 24. Don't use unless using a cloud based email like Outlook, Google or similar and then be very careful.

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Retail | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 11, 2022

**What do you like best about Sophos Email?**

Liked the web interface, and it seemed pretty simple. BUT wait till you use it.

Even the most obvious things that should work or one would expect don't - example: using a wildcard to block email - address*@domainname.com fails so you can't stop Gmail aliases or email addresses that repeat the first part.

**What do you dislike about Sophos Email?**

Doesn't work with multiple domain names. Doesn't work with an asterisk when blocking items = email*@gmail.com. Support is beyond useless - wait a week between each and every support contact; only their highest tier support knows a bit about the product = took almost two months to get one issue answered and it repeats with every issue. Getting anything fixed is beyond their ability. They think they are doing everything correctly, companies like Google, Microsoft and similar are doing it wrong, so your issue is not their problem. Company has been bought and sold and is now being run by the cash flow - Proofpoint was bought by the same company and their plan is the same..

**Recommendations to others considering Sophos Email:**

Look for another product/provider unless your needs fit perfectly with what they work with - only cloud-based email and then only under very specific conditions. Their sales reps and tech support will say anything to sell the subscription. Even if the product can't do what you are asking about - example: work with email users that have and use multiple domain names that all work within a single email server and account -think email aliases in different domain names. We are stuck with a subscription for a "cloud service" that we have to run half of the service on our on-premise hardware. The on-premise software will End Of Life before the subscription period ends, and they don't have a solution.

**What problems is Sophos Email solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Trying to stop spam, malware and other email garbage. Works part way. Using the email quarantine and sending an email of the quarantined emails - send at 5:00 and it arrives at 7:40 - their claim is it arrived in 90 minutes so that is good. Our claim is any email that takes even a few mintes is useless, but 90 minutes or 160 minutes is beyond useless. We lost a business because of that delay - email mut be timely or why use it - a phone call would be better.

  ### 25. Best way to protect from spam mail

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer & Network Security | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 12, 2022

**What do you like best about Sophos Email?**

The best thing about email gateway is it protect spam mail, protect from malware and ransomware attached in email which gives us peace of mind to open the mail.

**What do you dislike about Sophos Email?**

What I dislike is the spam rule customization is not as much as what we required while creating the spam rule for the mail server. So, I think the spam rule should apply to as customizable as we need.

**What problems is Sophos Email solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The spam email which the email server couldn't able to filter is now filtered, and malware and other virus content get blocked, and we get the clean mail in our email server.

  ### 26. Simple yet effective SPAM filter

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 17, 2021

**What do you like best about Sophos Email?**

Simplicity. Change your DNS records to point to Sophos and you're up and running in minutes. Once, your domains are set up, policy configuration is also simple and very intuitive.

**What do you dislike about Sophos Email?**

If you're accustomed to industry-leading filter solutions, you may find that some features and capabilities for tuning are lacking for large enterprise environments.

**What problems is Sophos Email solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We were able to bundle the Sophos Email Gateway service with our purchase of endpoint protection and other Sophos offerings at a significant discount (making it a highly cost-effective solution).

  ### 27. Robust antispam protection

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 21, 2020

**What do you like best about Sophos Email?**

Easy to setup, good knowledge base and support from Sophos. Does a great job at catching spam without many false positives.

**What do you dislike about Sophos Email?**

Having to each user, alias. Maybe it could be integrated better with Exchange Online to discover all thise.

**Recommendations to others considering Sophos Email:**

Great product from Sophos, easy to implement and with very few false positives.

**What problems is Sophos Email solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Blocking spam and marketing emails.

  ### 28. Good protection, needs maturing in areas

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mitch T. | Assistant Vice President, Information Technology, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 16, 2019

**What do you like best about Sophos Email?**

Integration with Sophos firewall products, central admin via cloud website. Has link rewrite feature that changes all links so when you click, it goes through Sophos link checker before going to site.

**What do you dislike about Sophos Email?**

Doesn't catch as much spam as some other products. Quarantine messages to users don't tell users everything that was quarantined. User interface to quarantine very rudimentary. Link re-write tool is not consistent, it lets some links in.

**Recommendations to others considering Sophos Email:**

I would consider it if you are using other Sophos tools (we use the whole suite, and that suite does work very well in an integrated way to protect network, provide secure wireless access, fail-over controlled by the firewall, and much more). Watch out for the Data Loss Prevention policy to block by attachment type--it quarantines email but doesn't tell the user. Don't use the Sophos recommended list. Also, there is a bug where it changes apostrophes and em dashes to question marks. Annoying.

**What problems is Sophos Email solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Using it to address spam particularly phishing emails. It does catch a lot of spam. The integration with the Sophos suite for network security adds layers of protection, so if a bad email like ransomware gets through and is opened, the firewall can close off access to the network instantly.

  ### 29. Peace of mind with a great product

**What do you like best about Sophos Email?**

Secure email: no spam, no impersonating emails, no virus emails

**What do you dislike about Sophos Email?**

reporting might need to be a little more broad. The dashboard shows all kind of categories but it should be easy to click in the category and see more specifics / information about the emails in that category

**Recommendations to others considering Sophos Email:**

Is an easy cloud base solution that integrates with Active Directory or just Outlook 365 with no AD. Easy to import mailboxes form outlook 365. Easy and painless set up. Support is great, just a little waiting time on the phone, but has a full documentation on line for DIY.

Virus, spam, impersonating emails and keeping my email system and company safe.

**What do you dislike about Sophos Email?**

Due to the highly sensitive program it was constantly filtering out emails as if they were spam when it was not and I was unable to retrieve personal important emails or assumed I was not getting them because they stopped showing up as they once had. I had to add them to my approved senders list and it was very tedious and somewhat annoying.

**Recommendations to others considering Sophos Email:**

I find this product very efficient and effective there is a huge security in using this and feeling safe. This product is very user friendly that even the employees that lack a lot of knowledge on doing these types of programs would very easily be able to learn by watching demos and working their way around the site. I myself enjoyed using this product and would absolutely recommend it to others looking to utilize a higher level of security in there place of employment.

**What problems is Sophos Email solving and how is that benefiting you?**

In the world of business we all know solicitation is a huge problem so with that being said it's a great buffer from weeding out the junk/spam emails that are constantly flowing in. It does a great job at detecting other legit businesses and making sure the safety before opening attachments is there so I can rest easy when I am on the go retrieving emails or on my pc at the office.
