**What do you like best about Rise?**

User-friendly and a great help for payroll, especially for handling ROE and T4. RISE’s support team is also very responsive and helpful when you need assistance. It’s really easy to process payroll, and the automation of calculations, tax filings, T4, ROE, and payments saves time and reduces errors.

**What do you dislike about Rise?**

Nothing much however if we had the option to change the benefit amount by our won that would be great instead of sending RISE the information everytime it changes.

**What problems is Rise solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Rise helps solve problems such as manual payroll calculations, tax filing errors, and tracking employee payments. It benefits us by automating payroll and taxes, reducing mistakes, and making it easier to pay employees accurately and on time. It also sends reminders for year-end deadlines and related tasks, which helps us stay on track.

**What do you like best about Rise?**

I like that Rise makes training simple for both admins and employees with no complicated setup or confusing interfaces. The course builder is incredibly intuitive, allowing us to create professional, mobile-friendly training in minutes without needing design or technical skills. Employees enjoy that it's lightweight, works on any device, and doesn't feel like a chore, which boosts completion rates. I also appreciate how Rise automates compliance tracking for GDPR and German workplace training with reminders, progress dashboards, and audit-ready records—all built-in to help us stay compliant without extra effort. Additionally, the initial setup was really straightforward, much simpler than most LMS platforms, which is one of Rise's biggest strengths.

**What do you dislike about Rise?**

While Rise is great for basic and compliance training, it’s less strong when it comes to customization and advanced functionality. The course templates are simple, but you can’t do very detailed branding or complex interactive elements without workarounds, which limits how tailored we can make content for specific teams. First, I’d really like to see more advanced and customizable reporting—not just completion rates, but filters for departments, date ranges, compliance deadlines, and learner progress over time. Built-in audit-ready reports for GDPR and German workplace training would save us from exporting to spreadsheets every time. Second, deeper integrations with HR systems like PulseHRM and our payroll tool would make a huge difference. Automatic user sync, course assignment based on role or department, and real-time progress updates would eliminate manual work and reduce errors.

**What problems is Rise solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Rise to streamline training and onboarding, centralizing courses and compliance tracking to save time and effort. It simplifies progress tracking and compliance with GDPR, making audits easy and efficient. The platform is intuitive, allowing access on any device and ensuring training consistency across teams.

I think the pricing of Rise is actually not too bad, starting at $8 per person. I find payroll really helpful, and I also value employee health benefits. The recruiting and onboarding features are really good.

**What do you dislike about Rise?**

I think Rise could improve by being more internationally focused, not just Canadian. Sometimes when we have hiring outside of the local area, it's helpful to have support for other countries as well.

I use Rise to handle payroll and manage employee files, streamlining HR processes. It provides a centralized place for all information, including performance management, HR administration, onboarding, offboarding, and benefits.

**What do you like best about Rise?**

Rise has amazing customer service. There has been multiple occasions where I've forgot to submit or approve my companies payroll by the cut-off time, and on every occasion I've been able to connect with a member from their team immediately and they've extended my cut-off time or been able to help me submit directly. Their customer service is top of the line, it is refreshing to know that if I need to get immediate assistance, I will be able to connect with a real person no problem.
The whole payroll process is also very straightforward and user friendly. Once you watch their videos once to get the rundown on how to sign up employees, submit payrolls etc. it is very smooth sailing from there.
I've never had an issue with them in the two years I've been using RISE.

ALSO, their fees are very reasonable, especially for a small business. This is what initially drew me to them and nothing has changed, no hike ups in prices or anything like that. All around RISE is the perfect payroll service for me!

**What do you dislike about Rise?**

The only area of improvement that I'd love to see happen is to make mobile use an option, I think adding in this capability to submit payrolls would be the icing on the cake. Other than that I have no complaints!

Rise allows me to easily submit my payrolls every two weeks. It is very beneficial to have a easy to use payroll service with low fees.

**What do you like best about Rise?**

Rise is extremely easy to use - both from a back-end HR Team perspective but also from an Employee perspective.  The web-based interface is so intuitive that very little training is required.  The Rise Support Team has also been so extremely responsive - both on small issues and a larger payroll issue that we had.  

The CEO, Faiz, is also accessible although our conversations with him have been about how great the team at Rise is and how supportive, friendly and solutions-oriented they are in helping us out.  

Rise is always adding new features which is great to see.  We started with Rise Payroll but now use Rise for almost all our HR needs as well.  The switchover / integration from a large, international payroll provider to Rise was so easy and the Rise solution is actually much, much better and more cost effective.  They are constantly asking us how to make the service better and we appreciate their responsiveness.

**What do you dislike about Rise?**

Downsides?  What downsides?  We will be looking for more features but it is very clear that their Development Team is very client-focused.  We are more than happy to grow with a dedicated Team like Rise.

Nothing. I currently like everything so far. I would like to learn more about their performance module and see how customizable it is, see if there is a place for rating employee performance.

Rise is easy to use, if you have a hard time there many articles to help you out or you can contact the support team. I love that I can make any changes, add or pause a payroll, impute documents change settings allow users different clearences, the list goes on. This program is user friendly and shows pride in the developement. The rise team are always working on improving this product and it shows.

I guess I would choose to have faster access to a tech support if I had to pick something to "dislike".

Rise is a cost effective and user friendly platform to assist small to medium size organizations in managing their payroll.

**What do you dislike about Rise?**

As with every platform, it may not be able to meet the needs of larger organizations.  Some times, with many modules, its a challenge to determine which is the primary module that should be updated to incorporate changes in employee information.  Rise support is not available on weekends and holidays which makes it a challenge when your payroll has to be submitted first thing Monday morning and an issue needs to be resolved prior to submission.

Rise is streamlining and automating a manual process of payroll.  It is a cost effective product to automate payroll and reduce the number of errors.

Rise and its HR+ Payroll offering is the best. As a company implementing HRMS first time, it was a good decision for us to make Rise as our HRIS and payroll partner. My team and I, did not have to put in a lot of effort for the integration. I also love the quick turnaround on customer support.

**What do you dislike about Rise?**

The recruitment module does not have all the features that address our requirements and not intuitive to flow through easily.

Rise is solving our HRIS and payroll related tasks, this has made record keeping, managing facilitating onboarding, time off tracking, payroll less labour intensive. It has helped in efficiently managing our people and budget resources.

I like that it's easy to contact agents at Rise and they get back to you quickly.  The interactions are always very friendly and direct.  When I reach out, I know I'll be taken care of.

Rise is our answer for affordable and quality payroll features.  They handle our tax remittances, T4's, etc. and that is so valuable to us.

Always a fast response time from their tech support, but very rarely need to use it because the program is so intuitive, user friendly, and covers everything we need to run payroll in a cost efficient and effective manner.

There is really nothing I dislike about Rise.

Payroll for a small business is fantastic, becuase without a dedicated HR department, it ensures we are in compliance with provincial/federal standards, and automatically generates complicated documents such as ROE's, T4's. pay statements, etc. tht would be time consuming and expensive for us to do through a private company.

Rise makes it very easy to run payroll, manage hiring, and coordinate across the employee lifecycle. It's been very helpful for our team. Support has been responsive (and increasingly so in recent periods).

The main area of improvement I see for Rise is integrations with other platforms. The integration between the ATS and Indeed, for example, was very buggy.

Slow, the software is a little clunky. With fewer modules in the software. It would be good if more modules were added.

Rise is a straightforward system to use and can get a company up and running right away from the HR side of things, users need next to no previous HR or technical knowledge to use.

**What do you dislike about Rise?**

Rise does not sync with Outlook or Google Calendars.  Setting it so that times are blocked off into calendars immediately when vacation is booked would be a valuable addition to their features.  Rise also lacks an API kit to allow developers capable of creating integrations by doing the work themselves.

Rise effectively handles our background HR and time tracking for employees.  Vacation/Sick Days/Bereavement etc. and hourly tracking for the hourly employees are handled in Rise.

Local BC company.  Good Marketing and options for future expansion.  Thought our business could grow with this provider.

**What do you dislike about Rise?**

Lack of standard rules and information for standard payroll requirements. Example: Stat Holiday Pay.  You have to write and put in your own rule.    
HORRIFIC customer support.  Urgent payroll question over 24 hours and still waiting for an answer.
BC Stat pay payroll instructions are nonexistent, and Rise keeps referring us back on how to write our own payroll instructions.

Rise was a good option for our start-up.  We then moved to a paid platform.   Rise completes all government (Fed/Prov) payroll related payments and direct depositis for employees.

**What do you like best about Rise?**

It is a Canadian company. It served the general purpose of payroll for our start-up. It had some great merits but in the latest update, the positives were really taken away.

**What do you dislike about Rise?**

2 months ago, I signed up for their Rise Lite platform which was promised to be free for life up until 20 employees. Since then, I've signed an agreement that clearly says it is free for life.  Last month I received a newsletter from them informing me that they are no longer offering free for life and that I will need to pay $30/mo + $6/mo/employee. It really felt like deceptive sales tactics to acquire users, get them to invest time and energy into learning how to use their product and flip the switch and make them pay.

Furthermore, their website's pricing page has absolutely no mention about a base $30/mo. Their cheapest plan is listed at $6/mo/employee (no disclaimer, no information about $30). I'm not sure if this $30 is exclusive to previous customers or to new customers as well. I sent them an email but they are currently dodging the question. Everything feels so shady here.

Other than the above, their product has quite a few bugs. It is not intuitive to use and you constantly need to reach out to their support or read their support page to figure out how to use their platform.

Be wary of what they say because it honestly seems like they utilize shady business tactics.

Service was cut off unexpectedly by the company after over two years of use. Their Rise Lite product was sunset, despite being touted as Free for Life. Sure, I can't be upset at a company decision to change the cost of a product in order to try and optimize their revenue stream and lower expenses. What I can be upset about is getting no communication about this change and suddenly my account is deactivated and I cannot run payroll for my company.

Rise was used for my company's payroll, but now I am using another product.

I like that Rise is a Canadian company and is able to keep our information on Canadian servers.

Rise doesn't offer many of the features that I had come to expect from an HRIS. There is no document signing, it's difficult to set up specialized reporting structures, it's hard to find employee salary info in once place. It's just lacking.

I was worried that even after finding a great free software, I wouldn't be able to make good use of it due to my lack of knowledge about how to do payroll in the first place. The service is free when you have fewer than 20 employees, but I am certain that once my business grows I will stay with them, I highly recommend using Rise for all your payroll needs.

The service desk people are very knowledgeable and helpful when you need them.  The system itself works quickly and I am able to complete my payroll (15 people) within about 10 minutes.  The reporting is more than adequate for my business analysis needs.

Some of the Payroll instructions can be a bit confusing but the help desk people are able to help me choose the best one in the event I am unsure.

Ensure that you clearly understand what the various Payroll Instructions are intended to accomplish so that you implement the right ones.  Spend some time on the Help site to explore these and then ask the helpdesk any questions you are still unsure about.

Ease, speed and reliability of payroll completion is a breeze and takes minimal time and effort on my part.  I am now looking in to the time off manager component as a centralized way to help my employees know how much vacation time they have banked and book vacation time etc while making approvals easy for me.

The product is easy to use with capability to add new users and custom pay types and pay periods.  There is flexibility and is a stable product.  A bit user unfriendly in some ways including the need to manually enable email notifications for each employee.  Biggest downside is that there is no direct integration to QBO or Xero despite the fact that this was a selling feature during the sales process.  All things considered though, it's a good product on the market given the price.

**What do you dislike about Rise?**

It does not directly integrate with QBO or Xero.  

**Recommendations to others considering Rise:**

Onboarding team is great, particularly Bhuvi who is always there to fix any issues.  Software is glitchy but does the job.

Does not have a good accountant portal and clients must sign up on their own.

Automatic email notification to employees, which is not available in QBO.

At the end of the day, Rise solves a problem and allows us to do our payroll quickly and without much hassle. We're grateful we found Rise, and we'll certainly be sticking with them for the foreseeable future, as they're solving a real problem we had.

Rise's system is a bit complicated, which is unavoidable to some degree when doing something complex like payroll, so there's a learning curve involved. That said, Rise does a good job of walking you through the process in length.

Rise is our first payroll solution, and it's solved our problems well. I can't compare it to another competing system, but I do know that the pricing (free under a certain number of employees) is quite compelling, and is unlike most of the other vendors we considered.

Our payroll was not organized prior to using Rise, and Rise has fixed that – it's really been a game-changer on that front.

The setup for new employees is simple. The helpline (online and by phone) is very friendly and helpful when it comes to asking for help.

I have ran into various issues when Rise is giving us wrong information on certain payroll treatments. I would expect Rise to provide us with payroll support, including how to calculate vacation pay etc. There are times when I feel like I had to do the research on my side and then educate Rise on how to put the calculation together.

May need to have a HR specialist in the office as I wouldn't recommend relying on Rise fully on payroll issues and treatments.

We are a growing fintech company and expanding very quickly. There are constant changes in the company and therefore we are always in contact with Rise to change the way we build departments. There are certain reports that we have used that enables us to calculate FTE.

I like the easy data input, which resembles a spreadsheet style layout (great for finance folks!), the system is easy enough to use (simple logics, easy formulas for new codes), I also like the email statement delivery (better than paper statement of earnings or logging into other services, or even the website itself to get statements), and I also like the ease of reporting - I can easily design reports or request help, and their team is friendly and easy to work with, should I have any requests.

I also love their fee structure. It's simple without all the nickel and diming that is so prevalent with other providers.

**What do you dislike about Rise?**

Not a lot to gripe about. I wish it was simple enough to get the regular journal entries for our payroll without bugging their team all the time for it.

**Recommendations to others considering Rise:**

It's a very straight forward product with simple data entry all on one page, and everything is laid out in a logical manner that makes it easy to use.

**What problems is Rise solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The problem was having confusing platforms that had steep learning curves, having to distribute paper copies of statement of earnings (or having employees having to login to other sites to retrieve statements), and getting rid of per-service pricing, which was difficult to predict and confusing to understand (e.g. cost to do a one-off pay run, cost to prepare year-end docs, costs to run terminations, etc.).

Better than manual process. Even with its clunky interface, Rise still saves time over using PDOCs.

**What do you dislike about Rise?**

Clunky interface, disinterested support. I've put in tickets and made feature requests that haven't been implemented in years. I get a notification at midnight right before payroll data is due at 10am.  If I'm asleep before I get the notification, I have to rush in the morning to get it done. I can view my payroll reporting schedule in Rise, but can't export it into my calendar so that I get earlier notifications.  I've suggested/requested letting the user specify when they get the notification and calendar export but after asking for it for a year and a half, I don't expect it to happen.

**Recommendations to others considering Rise:**

There are lots of other options out there for payroll right now.  I think Rise has refocused. You should consider other options. The main reason we're still with them is inertia and the challenge of moving to a new system mid-year.

From the sales demo, to the onboarding, everything went amazingly smooth and seamlessly. Moving payroll over to another company would seem daunting; however, not with Rise's amazing onboarding. Hub/Time Off is super easy to use and requires little, if any change management. Rise's payroll system is a lot more modern than ADP's.

**What do you dislike about Rise?**

So far, nothing. We had some early requests into adding "Days in lieu" and it has already been completed and is read to roll out.

**What problems is Rise solving and how is that benefiting you?**

More accurate T4 reporting within payroll. A better pay stub distribution system. No more errors in vacation day tracking in an Excel spreadsheet. In short, saves us time, and therefore, money.

It is fairly intuitive. I like the design of it and everything is clearly labeled and easy to find. I appreciate the option to chat with a rep and always having my calls answered. 
I really like the option of creating reports within the time off  hub for policies used.

There are some options that I feel are missing. I would like to be able to see time off accrued as well as the total time. For our organization, this would be extremely useful.

Rise offers free service to small businesses that have only a few employees.  Admittedly, we feared that "free service" may mean "free of service". That is not the case. We receive full support, and feel very well cared for.

Not having direct experience with other payroll service providers, I don't have benchmarks for comparison.  We found some of the on-boarding experience to be a little tricky, but nothing insurmountable.

We did not hire HR and Payroll during the start-up phase of our company.  Rise eliminated much of the work of payroll, like calculating deductions and tax filing, allowing the directors to focus on tasks related to growing the company instead.

I like being able to quickly review a pay statement, and how easy it is to process an Ad-hoc pay run.  Easy electronic pay statement delivery.

Not being able to upload mass salary changes.  Having to update each instruction, and wait for it to process, before proceeding to the next instruction.  It would be great to be able to update three instructions, and then save the input sheet.

Ad-hoc payrolls have cut down on the number of people involved, and the time it had been taking, to process one.  It can now be done in less than 15 minutes.

I like how simple it is to put in payroll numbers for my employees.  I can add or delete employees in a snap.  Our company uses commissions as well and i have a separate column for that, which makes it more clear to read.  The software is very user friendly.

I do not like how it is a longer process to change the payroll date and the 3 days wait period which doesn't include weekends.

I have had the experience of working with various other service providers in my payroll profession and have found no other platform that is this user friendly. **What do you like best about Rise?**

Easy to use, intuitive dashboards. Support staff is thorough, prompt and pro-active.  The benefits administration is the best feature.

**What do you dislike about Rise?**

Doesn't integrate with Google calendar or iCal

**What problems is Rise solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Time off is put in the hands of the employees.  They have the ability to see for themselves how much time they have remaining for vacation and remote days.

**What do you like best about Rise?**

Simplicity of the system.  Implementation was easy, didn't take a tonne of our time, and went relatively smoothly.  Liked the simplicity of reporting system and of the time off planner.  Employees found it easy to book time and see balances. 

**What do you dislike about Rise?**

Were unable to deliver on accurate taxation, submissions and RL-1's for the province of Quebec.   We had their largest group ever in Quebec and they weren't ready for us.  They are constantly improving which is something very good, but when we started, they weren't ready for Quebec.

**What problems is Rise solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are leaving Rise
