Recurly is a subscription billing and revenue management platform built to help businesses manage the subscription lifecycle. It brings together subscriber management, payment orchestration, churn management, and real-time analytics.

What languages does Recurly support?

Recurly supports 18 languages, including Chinese (Simplified), Danish, Dutch, English, French, and others.

What company sizes and industries is Recurly the best fit for?

Recurly is most represented among small-business and mid-market teams, with positive users spanning several industries. The clearest clusters include:
  • Company size: Small businesses and mid-market organizations are most represented.
  • Industries: Software and IT, consumer services, entertainment, and financial services are prominent.

How long does it take to implement Recurly across a team?

Implementation timelines vary with the setup, but teams most commonly report getting Recurly live within one to three months. Other reported timelines include:
Time to go live Relative frequency
1–3 months Most commonly reported
Under 1 month Also frequently reported
3–6 months Reported regularly
6–12 months Reported less often

What customer support options does Recurly provide, and how do users find the overall support experience?

Recurly provides support through self-service resources and direct channels such as phone, chat, and email/help desk. The support experience is often described as responsive, knowledgeable, and helpful, particularly during onboarding and technical questions; users also describe inconsistent responses or difficulty reaching the right live support when an issue is more involved.

What is the experience like for teams switching to Recurly from another tool?

Switching to Recurly has often meant replacing a payment processor, a subscription tool, or an in-house billing setup that lacked subscription-specific features. Users describe moving for stronger subscription management, more flexible payment gateway options, improved recovery and retention tools, and clearer navigation or reporting; the transition is described as straightforward in some cases, while more complex setups can require technical work and onboarding support.

What tools and platforms does Recurly integrate with, and how do these integrations help users get more value from the product?

Recurly offers 25 integrations. The integrations users name span payment, customer, finance, and marketing workflows:
  • Payments: Stripe, Adyen, and PayPal/Braintree.
  • CRM and customer support: Salesforce and Zendesk.
  • Finance: NetSuite and QuickBooks Online.
  • Marketing: Mailchimp.
These connections can link subscription and payment activity with customer, support, finance, and marketing systems, reducing the need to move information between tools manually. Users also note that integration setup and coordination can take extra effort in some cases.

What features or capabilities could make Recurly even more useful?

More flexible reporting and analytics are the clearest opportunities to make Recurly more useful, especially for teams that need deeper analysis without exporting data to other tools. Other useful improvements include:
  • Offer more customizable reports, filters, exports, and breakdowns for churn, plans, and subscriber activity.
  • Make hosted checkout pages, invoices, and customer-facing email templates more configurable.
  • Add more flexible billing controls for pauses, prorations, reminders, and other plan-specific edge cases.
  • Improve bulk actions and visibility into integration errors so teams can manage accounts and troubleshoot more efficiently.

"Powerful customizable solution"
4/5
What do you like best about Recurly?

They provide all options for setting up infrastructure of our subscription services with their powerful API. Our reason for choosing customization is its flexibility. Also, their payment retrying is effective. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Recurly?

We use 3rd party analysis tools. Actually, Reculry can provide more analysis tools to understand the data. Also, we would like to see more payment gateway options. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"The prof services team ensured they understood the request & executed it timely & accurately."
5/5
What do you like best about Recurly?

The time saved manually updating accounts and subscriptions by utilizing the professional services team. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Recurly?

Self-service functionality is definitely lacking. I've also raised the arbitrary dupe transaction window of 8 hours several times to no avail. Often times a users card will decline and they will ask us to reattempt shortly after, but recurly won't make the charge attempt as it thinks it's a duplicate. 8 hours is just too long and greatly impacts our users as they cannot get into our software if a payment is declined. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Cinnamon Perryman of Recurly

We appreciate you’ve taken the time to share your experience with us. Recurly works with customers worldwide, enabling the full subscriber lifecycle. We especially appreciate your comments regarding the self-service functionality. Please continue to communicate these areas of improvement through support@recurly.com.

"Simple and reliable"
3.5/5
What do you like best about Recurly?

I like how easy it is to set up accounts and subscriptions; it is straightforward to get Recurly setup and working. The automation of the billing is the highlight, it is very nice to set up an account and have the invoices set out automatically. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Recurly?

Recurly is great for straightforward billing situations it is not very customizable for more complex billing situations. If someone is dealing with many custom billing situations, Recurly might not be the best tool. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Cinnamon Perryman of Recurly

"I've had a great experience with recurly thus far. I'd definitely recommend."
4.5/5
What do you like best about Recurly?

I like how compatible recurly is with the systems that we have in place. I enjoy how intuitive the interface is... What I enjoy the most though, is the accessibility to the support team and how responsive and helpful they are. It's so helpful knowing that I can always reach out and receive assistance, no matter what time of day. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Recurly?

I dislike the limitations with invoices as far as what can be displayed on them. It would be nice if there were an "other" field so that I could add whatever vendor specific information is needed.

I'd also like to understand the reporting better. After this last update, we've had some difficulty understanding what the new numbers reflect and we haven't gotten any real help or clarity Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Cinnamon Perryman of Recurly

We appreciate you’ve shared your positive customer support story with Recurly. We also appreciate your detailed comments about the invoicing limits and reporting needs. Please continue to communicate with us at support@recurly.com. Our values are clear - we iterate everything.

"Awesome Billing System!"
4.5/5
What do you like best about Recurly?

In my 6 months of using Recurly, it has been very helpful for us Customer Service Agents to provide answers to our customers' billing inquiries. Additionally, it seems to use and navigate. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Recurly?

We usually process the refunds on our Admin's Dashboard and sometimes we don't notice that the funds were refunded as a credit, not to the original method of payment. This could sometimes lead to another customer complaint. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Cinnamon Perryman of Recurly

Thanks for sharing your experience with Recurly. We work with customers worldwide and love helping our customers grow. If there’s something we can do to improve your experience, beyond what you've indicated above, please let us know.

"Pretty good platform overall, but confusing pricing structure"
3.5/5
What do you like best about Recurly?

Really easy to manage client accounts, add and modify subscriptions, cancel subscriptions, and bill clients for one-time work outside of their subscription. The platform backend is extremely user-friendly and a pleasure to use. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Recurly?

The pricing model is strange and confusing. We signed up many many years ago at a grandfathered rate. Now, they are trying to upsell us to upgrade to one of their new plans which seem to contain fewer features, and where addons such as "wallet," which allow you to store multiple credit cards per client account, cost an additional several thousand dollars per year. I also dislike the fact that Recurly has very few native integrations. Instead, they expect you to use recurly.js to develop your own. That's not realistic for a lot of smaller businesses. Competitors often have hundreds of supported integrations ready out of the box. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Cinnamon Perryman of Recurly

We appreciate you’ve taken the time to share your experience. Recurly enables the full subscriber lifecycle, and you've called out many of our favorite features. Your questions about the pricing model should be addressed directly through support@recurly.com.

"Reliable recurring billing software that’s been developed over many years"
4/5
What do you like best about Recurly?

Solid, robust service with an experienced team, receiving updates on a steady schedule. Many advanced features that are available for businesses that operate internationally. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Recurly?

Interface can be a little clunky. Some features took a while to be built. Customer profiles are still more confusing than they need to be. Some interface views would ideally be more customisable. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
