You could cobble together a toolset to replace some features, but for business users, there is no substitute for Monarch when it comes to reliably extracting semi-structured data. Monarch software can extract data from different data sources - PDFs, TXT files, database feeds, XML, JSON, etc and transforms it according to the business logic. I like the most that Monarch has built-in easy-to-learn technics that allow me to parse non-trivial PDF and Excel files into a relational database for subsequent analysis and reporting.
