## OpenBOM Reviews
  ### 1. I transform the way of generating plans in PDF and storing them

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Leonardo A. | technical office engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 13, 2026

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

I love the ease of generating PDFs and STEP files, which are stored in the OpenBOM cloud, allowing other team members to access the information without the option to modify it. I use the OpenBOM plugin in SolidWorks to make drawings and automatically generate 2D PDFs and 3D STEP files along with descriptions and part numbers, which streamlines the process. I also greatly appreciate that I don't need to use space on my hard drive or a local server since everything is in the OpenBOM cloud, avoiding cumbersome folder systems in Drive and providing greater security. The transition from Excel to OpenBOM helped us a lot and it has been a great advancement to eliminate manual editing errors. Whenever I've had issues, customer support has responded in a helpful and quick manner.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

Perhaps having an app on my phone that allows me to see information on my phone could help, that would be great.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use OpenBOM to automate the generation of drawings and bills of materials, storing everything in the cloud to avoid editing errors and save space on physical disks. It has allowed us to leave behind the chaos of Excel, managing data more securely and efficiently.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Thank you for your review and feedback! OpenBOM is available in the mobile browser. But we're checking how to deliver a mobile app for a specific function - eg. shopfloor or warehouse access.

  ### 2. Lightweight, Flexible Cloud BOM Management with Seamless CAD Integration

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Maulik M. | Intern - PT India Commercial , Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 13, 2026

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

OpenBOM felt very strong as i wanted something lightweight, flexible and cloud based software without any complexity like other similar softwares. It provides real time collaboration, seamless CAD integration with popular tools like SolidWorks, Fusion 360, etc.Data management is flexible here plus BOM creation is very easy. Some upsides of OpenBOM are Faster setup,Low cost, Accurate and very useful for agile product development.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

There are some points that i didn't like about OpenBOM.Like UI/UX seems outdated, There are limited number of features, While using it i faced some integration gaps and syncing issues, Not ideal for complex needs, Occasional bugs, etc.So i can say openBOM works best for lightweight, collaborative BOM management but not for deep enterprise PLM features and very good UI/UX.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I got some business problems which i sorted out with help of OpenBOM.
I got scattered and inconsistent product data,There was poor connection between teams also i was getting manual and error prone workflows. So by using OpenBOM as it is cloud based BOM it helped everyone work from the same data.It linked CAD with BOM so shares data across teams in real time. Reduces manual entries and many more.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Thank you for your feedback. What features you found missing? Can you please contact our support and share more info?

  ### 3. Promising BOM Tool, But SolidWorks Integration via Parallels Needs Better Support

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Anthony F. | Student, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 11, 2026

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

What I like most about OpenBOM is the versatility it adds to SolidWorks. Being able to manage BOMs in a more flexible, cloud-based environment feels like it has a lot of potential, especially for teams working on collaborative projects such as Formula SAE. I also really appreciate that OpenBOM reached out to support our FSAE team; it shows they’re genuinely interested in helping students and engineering programs.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

The biggest downside I’ve run into so far is getting OpenBOM to work reliably in my setup—specifically when running SolidWorks through Parallels. The integration hasn’t been as straightforward as I expected, and troubleshooting compatibility issues has taken more time than I anticipated.

I think clearer documentation and stronger support for non-standard environments, like virtual machines, would make a big difference. Once everything is working, I can see the value, but the initial setup and integration process has definitely been challenging.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

OpenBOM helps address the challenge of managing and organizing bills of materials across complex assemblies, especially in a team setting. In projects like Formula SAE, where multiple people are designing different components at the same time, it can be hard to keep track of parts, revisions, and quantities.

Having a centralized system for BOM management makes it easier to stay organized, reduce mistakes, and ensure everyone is working from the same set of data. It also supports manufacturing and purchasing planning by providing a clear overview of the required parts and materials. Overall, it has the potential to improve efficiency and reduce confusion across both design and production workflows.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Hello Anthony F. Thank you for your feedback and review. Running SolidWorks on Parallels is certainly less straightforward. We had a very rare requests about this configuration. We are not limiting, but also not encouraging people to use it on Mac.
I'm curious if you can share more information about what issues you had. Please contact our support@openbom.com
Best, Oleg

  ### 4. Quick and updatable catalog, although there are still functions that I don't use

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** María de los Ángeles A. | Workspace & Workshop Admin, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 14, 2026

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

The facilities you have when it comes to finding everything are very useful. I mean, if I want to see what the catalog is, it shows it to me immediately; and if my colleague wants to see a broader one because they need more information, they can also do it. Furthermore, it can be modified without needing to exit, and it updates automatically.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

For now, I haven't tinkered with it much, but I wouldn't say there are things I don't like; rather, there are functions that I simply don't use.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Before, it was like having a drive full of Excel files and folders, and it was hard to find each file or just the one you needed. With this tool, on the other hand, it's as if everything is unified, and the work becomes much more efficient.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Thank you for your feedback and review! I'm glad OpenBOM made your life easier.

  ### 5. Efficient BOM Creation, Needs Modern Interface

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Harshrajsinh M. | Technical executive , Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 14, 2025

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

I really like how OpenBOM seamlessly integrates with Fusion 360, making it super easy for me to generate BOMs directly from my CAD designs. Also I now used it with the solidworks and the experience is super good because our intern students also learned how the procurement and all this work. So it makes easy for them to procure the things via openbom through cad software.recent changes like integration with ECAD,ERP and PLM system helps a lot and make the works easy. Also the cloud platform which is like access anytime from anywhere and we don't have to take care of worry about our data. The AI agent integration which can process excel,CAD, and structured files conversationally and other thing that it detects the BOM relationship when we deleted some items. The training course are pretty good.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

If the GUI is changed to a more modern way, it would be more helpful. Also, there's a need for better customer support services and to enhance training and documentation for the advanced features.the cloud features is nice but whenever internet issue rises it cannot be operational.Ai feature also in beta stages need to be developed and mature fully to industrial level.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use OpenBOM with Fusion 360 to quickly create BOMs for drone components, saving time and boosting efficiency in technical documentation. Its quicker with time accessible and easy to use for the new comers
.then the AI can make the procurement more efficient.Automatic BOM detection from the ZIP,cad, excel files and generate BOM automatically.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Hello Harshrajsinh, thank you for your review. I'm curious what CAD system you use that takes a lot of time to generate the BOM. The load time is dependent on many factors - the size of your CAD assembly, CAD system, configuration of derivative formats, etc. Please advise and contact our support. Best, Oleg

  ### 6. Key Account Manager

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Denizhan L. | Purchasing Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 02, 2020

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

Being able to select a product from different sellers at different prices using the same code, after it's been added to the BOM lists from catalogs, is a significant advantage.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

276
The system allows for displaying images in columns and rows, sorted by size (large, medium, small) like Windows file sorting. Multiple simplified CAD file transfer options are available, such as transferring a rough sketch, then a step-by-step sketch, and finally a detailed sketch instead of a complete file.

**Recommendations to others considering OpenBOM:**

By putting images in your materials, you can create more detailed lists and catalogs, you can save the same material from different vendors and pull it back to the bill of materials by giving a different catalog number.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

First, a regular bill of materials and project equipment, and then a cost calculation.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Hello Denizhan, Thank you very much for your review and feedback. I'd like to address some of your comments and ask for questions to clarify the issues, which will help our team to make improvements.
1- could you please contact our support and provide more information about performance issues (we need to get more information about connections, browsers, and other related IT infrastructure).
2- Many users appreciate the ease of change, but sometimes it can be dangerous. There is a very good technique of using user-defined views that prevent accidental changes of data. It is easy to set up and you will have 2 views - one for view only and another for editing information.
3- Ctrl-Z is not always possible because data is interconnected and changed in many places and relationships. OpenBOM provides a revision mechanism that allows you to trace previous revisions of the data and restore them back. In addition to that, we are working on a new feature that allows to restore the previous revisions.
4- PO (I guess this is what you call purchasing form) is not updated automatically - only when you click on the "generate / update" button. So, it looks like a misunderstanding. Do you mind contacting our support - we would be happy to clarify things for you.
Best, Oleg

  ### 7. Efficient and Free, but Lacks Training

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Miguel L. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 11, 2026

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

What I like most about OpenBOM is the ability to assemble different BOMs with different configurators, so that everything is gathered into a single BOM, while allowing for maximum breakdown of all the elements of our product. I also find it very useful for coordinating and assigning all the part numbers of the parts and components, especially in a complex product like a car with several BOMs that form a unit. Additionally, organizationally it is very helpful as it allows for current tracking of different versions of a component, which makes it easier to locate old parts installed in previous products.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

For me, an area for improvement would be the configurators. Although they already exist and are used, it is somewhat costly to introduce them when it comes to inter-relating several BOMs into one and taking into account all the configurators you need. Simply a more intuitive relationship where you can apply configurators to all the BOMs without having to have a dedicated section for them. I miss some initial guidance/training.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

OpenBOM allows me to coordinate and assign all the part numbers, track current versions of components, and assemble different BOMs with configurators, breaking down the elements of our product to the maximum.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Thank you for your feedback and review. I'm curious what you mean by "apply configuration to all the BOMs"? Did you try OpenBOM views?

  ### 8. Incredibly Useful for Product & Package Design Once You Learn the UI

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Stephanie D. | Project Manager and Team Director, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 17, 2026

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

Once you learn the UI, it's incredibly useful for product and package design. It's easy to make copies of a product line and adjust the graphics to make a new product. The categorization system is great, makes it super easy to find a specific tool and what it's for and manage it's SKU. Integrations are great and the ease of use after you get the hang of it is great.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

It's a big learning curve, I wish there were some more tutorial walkthroughs. Jumping into this tool with no prior knowledge of "BOM" or "tooling" is a lot!

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It organizes our tooling and hosts our product labels. So when we have a new product or a tooling adjustment, it's a quick and easy project. It makes it simple to add new products or adjust a label!

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Hi Stephanie

Thank you very much for your feedback and review.

Have you had a chance to check our tutorials and Youtube channels?

  ### 9. Affordable PDM, Needs User Experience Improvements

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kira W. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 27, 2026

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

I like that OpenBOM is easy to use and is lower cost than other software. It has an easy-to-see website where I can find BOMs without excessive extra features in the way. I appreciate being able to see line items easily on the website and the ability to create categories so my parts set themselves up.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

I find the file manager really unintuitive. It should be broken out into two pages where you can either look at projects mappings to local files or look at the files themselves. Instead, I have this 'design folders' to get back to the folders, and it’s unclear how I got to that first page and then how to navigate back. It feels like it should have an obvious back button or be sorted as tabs of pages. On the website, I couldn’t find the settings for projects to add or adjust one; I had to use chat GPT to help me find the navigation, which feels wrong. If I’m not allowed to edit settings due to permission it should be made obvious with a grey out settings gear and a tooltip not a missing settings button. I have an issue with my catelogs absorbing items that don’t fit the part numbering requirements I thought I set. It’s weird that this is allowed. The locking feature kind of makes sense but is very unintuitive compared to the simple check in or check out system of a typical PDM. The switch is confusing me greatly, and I feel like I’m doing it to go through the motions instead of to obtain a result I want, likely because I don’t understand it. Several tooltips mouseovers were unhelpful or confusing.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

OpenBOM provides PDM and BOM creation for Solidworks projects. It's cost-effective, easy to use, and allows me to find BOMs easily without extra features cluttering the interface.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Hello Kira

Thank you for your feedback and review.

The new version of File Manager included many improvements - some of them you mentioned in your comments.

It is completely integrated in SolidWorks and you can perform all operations directly from SolidWorks.

I'm sure we are still missing something, therefore we would be happy to be in touch and discuss improvements.

Best, Oleg

  ### 10. Efficient BOM Management

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Consumer Goods | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 27, 2026

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

I like that OpenBOM is flexible to deploy quickly compared to traditional PLM tools. It makes it easy to structure BOMs, manage revisions, and create a more centralized product data workflow without a heavy implementation lift. It's especially helpful as a lightweight bridge between spreadsheets and a full PLM system, providing ease of use and improving cross-functional visibility across Product, Operations, and Supply Chain. The initial setup was super easy, which made getting started a breeze.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

Compared to more mature PLM platforms, workflow automation, change management structure, and cross-functional stage-gate visibility are somewhat limited. OpenBOM would be stronger with more built-in workflow automation to support structured approval routing across teams. A more robust change management framework with clearer revision history visibility and controlled change request workflows would also help as SKU complexity scales.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use OpenBOM to replace fragmented spreadsheets with a structured system, improving alignment and reducing version control risks across Product, Operations, and Supply Chain teams.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Hello

Thank you for your feedback and review.

We are working on advanced routing approval mechanism of changes and improved presentation of history.

Best, Oleg

  ### 11. Effective Intermediary between Engineering and Manufacturing

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rafa R. | design engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 08, 2026

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

I like that OpenBOM allows me to forget about the complex folder structures in Fusion 360 to control versions and perform quick saves directly from Fusion. It is very useful that it eliminates the use of Excel for controlling parts and versions, and it helps ensure that everyone has access to the information. When companies grow, communication can become complicated, but OpenBOM makes it easier for everyone to be informed about changes, avoiding errors due to lack of information. I also deduce that the integration of the software across the entire team was good, as it was quick compared to other software.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

Version and revision control of CAD or 3D files falls short. I would like it to be structured differently so that I can choose versions of the piece without them appearing as different components in OpenBOM. In the catalog section, I have as many rows of components as there are revisions of the pieces. I find it inconvenient for it to be this way. I would prefer it to be a grouping or dropdown.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use OpenBOM to link files and modifications, translate between departments, eliminate Excel in parts and versions control, and to ensure that everyone has up-to-date information, preventing errors.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Hello Rafa, thank you for your comments and feedback. We would love to be able to check more issues you're experiencing with Fusion. Can I ask you to contact our support with more details?
Thank you, Oleg

  ### 12. Intuitive Interface, Streamlined BOM Management

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Michael W. | Lead Mechanical Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 25, 2026

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

I like OpenBOM's intuitive user interface, which is especially friendly for non-engineers. It eliminates many unnecessary features that other PLM software include, making it more streamlined. I love quickly updating CAD properties in an Excel-like format, which is great for pushing back to Solidworks. The platform provides our purchasing and materials management team with structured bill of materials and helpful thumbnail features. The similarity to an Excel spreadsheet is something our team is very comfortable with. Additionally, the ability to create bills of materials for kitting and inventory organization purposes improves our performance and factory efficiency. These features cut down on tedious work, translating design intent to purchasing specifications, and managing manufacturing and assembly part structuring.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

With OpenBOM constantly evolving, some of the training courses and videos are a bit out of date. Checking in and checking out is something that is very common in other PDM platforms, but has been removed as an option in later releases. Videos still show these features. Instead, the lock and unlock feature is present, but it acts a bit differently and confuses some engineers. More clarity and updated training videos around file manager, and how it integrates with Solidworks would be great.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

OpenBOM helps organize our CAD database, integrate Solidworks, manage design files, and generate BOMs. It resolves siloed design work, broken CAD-BOM links, and duplicate parts, while providing clear visibility of items and assemblies. The Excel-like interface simplifies BOM creation, enhancing our purchasing and materials management.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Hi Michael, Thank you very much for your feedback and review. Yes, we are aware about PDM functions and documentation improvement needed. We have been delivering many improvements and additional features in that space. This week, we are going to release new videos and documentation updates will follow. Meantime, please check our AI support chat and always feel free to contact support@openbom.com with questions :)

  ### 13. Decent PLM Alternative, But Needs UI Improvement

**Rating:** 2.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** David R. | Senior Mechanical Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 25, 2026

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

I use OpenBOM for my startup in robotics as an alternative to a traditional PLM. I like that it provides multi-level BOMs, which we find preferable to using something like Excel. I enjoy that OpenBOM operates a bit like a spreadsheet, offering less bloat and red tape compared to a full PLM. It's a great balance for our small team, combining the speed and flexibility of a spreadsheet with a bit of an upgrade. Additionally, the setup was easy, which was a plus for us.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

Unfortunately it's very clunky and unintuitive. It can be unintuitive and clunky, particularly how it syncs with Onshape. I've also seen scenarios where my work is wiped out when refreshing in Onshape. It's unclear if I did something wrong or if the bidirectional relationship between the softwares is the source of problems.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use OpenBOM for multi-level BOMs in my startup, replacing Excel for its balance of PLM features with the speed of a spreadsheet.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Hello David,

Thank you very much for your review. We contacted you directly to follow up about the issue you experienced with Onshape.

Technically, you can override the data in Onshape if you sync attributes from OpenBOM to Onshape. This is part of the bi-directional integration.

  ### 14. Streamlines BOM Management with CAD Integration

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ira T. | Mechanical Designer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 02, 2025

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

I appreciate that OpenBOM gives us the opportunity to effectively create and update BOMs for projects without parts falling between chairs and that it's helpful for creating part lists for kits or separate assemblies. The extraction of CAD data is a big plus as it saves a lot of time. I find it really useful for structuring information in easy-to-use and edit forms. I love that I can manipulate BOMs and properties to always use relevant data and format.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

1. Sometimes it doesn't extract pictures.
2. Sometimes it compiles BOMs into Excel with half of my chosen properties missing.
3. It doesn't have a 'Collapse all' function.
4. I would be glad to have a 'Generate part number' function that allows linking a duplicated BOM to a new assembly without loading it to OpenBOM. We often copy our projects and then make changes according to client needs, which can lead to duplication conflicts.
5. Some drawings doesn't load correctly into the database. PDF files can appear half-blank. It may creates a need for engenneer to spend time reviewing each.
6. Each bom loads without name. Each time i have to go through tons of boms just to comlete those names. Is there any oportunity to assign it within solidworks before loading?
7. If components have a revision i can't change their calalogue

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use OpenBOM to effectively create and update BOMs, preventing parts from falling through the cracks. It simplifies creating part lists for kits and assemblies and saves time with CAD data extraction. I also appreciate its ease in structuring information for easy editing.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Hello Ira

Thank you very much for your review and feedback and suggestion.

1. The message "Vendor doesn't exist" usually happens when the vendor list is not defined for a specific catalog item. I'd love to check you data.
2. We are planning to come with the expand all / collapse all function- stay tuned
3. OpenBOM supports Ctrl/Cmd-V command. The past command is absent because of some limitations of the browsers (I know it is hard to believe, but it is true)

Best, Oleg

  ### 15. Facilitate Collaboration with Powerful Integrations

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Danilo R. | Manutenção de computador: instalação de hardware e software., Information Technology and Services, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 21, 2025

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

I like how OpenBOM simplifies the creation and maintenance of bills of materials, allowing my engineering and purchasing team to work together much more efficiently. The integration with CAD software like SolidWorks and Fusion 360 is a major advantage, as we can export BOMs directly without rework. Another positive feature is the real-time collaboration, which eliminates the endless exchange of spreadsheets via email and reduces version errors. Additionally, the initial setup of OpenBOM was quick and practical, thanks to being a cloud solution. Within a few hours, we were already generating bills of materials and integrating with our CAD. There is a learning curve, but the tutorials and support helped a lot.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

The interface could be more intuitive for new users, as the initial learning curve is a bit steep. Additionally, some integrations with ERP systems still require manual adjustments, which could be more automated. Native connectors and automatic synchronization would make the process much more efficient.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use OpenBOM to integrate with SolidWorks and automate bill of materials, facilitating inventory control and purchase orders. It improves the efficiency of the engineering and purchasing team with real-time collaboration and reduces version errors, effectively replacing spreadsheets.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Hello Danilo,

Thank you very much for your review and feedback! We are continuously working to improve the user experience and make it easier for new users to get started with OpenBOM. If you have specific comments, please feel free to contact us at support@openbom.com
— we’d be happy to discuss.

  ### 16. The Light Bridge Between My CAD Model and My Inventory cum OPS Team

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Omkar S. | UAV Engineer, Aviation & Aerospace, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 04, 2026

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

The moment I realized this was different was when I shared a BOM with our procurement guy. He saw my changes in real-time without me having to email him a new file or ask him to follow up with excel or document files sometimes. It sounds small, but it saved our team about three hours of back-and-forth that day. It makwes huge impact sometimes on the productivity hours. Spreadsheets I m still not sure how we could attach the product or material images for reference. But OpenBom does that automatically every time in a organised way.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

It took sometime to figure out the 'Catalog' logic versus the 'BOM' logic, but once that clicked, it made our entire library much cleaner. ;)

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I used to spend every Saturday afternoon manually typing part numbers from Fusion 360 into a Excel Sheet. One typo mistake from our end would make inventory team ordered the wrong motor or sometimes even expensive products like FC and we'd lose a week of production and its a tedious process of switching between the design app and the spreadsheet back and forth. Also its collaborative and ev erything updated in real time. Saved a lot of time while improving productive hours every week. No need of second verification. FAster and reliable.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

  ### 17. Perfect bridge between Fusion and AI for material management.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Arts and Crafts | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 18, 2026

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

As a maker who isn't building for commercial gain I really appreciate companies that make their software available for free. OpenBOM does exactly what I was looking for - produces a BOM with dimensions that I can then feed into an AI to optimising cutting and reduce material use.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

It's not immediately clear that updates to the design are correctly reflected to the BOM. I was also looking for an option to delete all data quickly in just one or two steps. If that capability is present, I didn't find it.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I needed output from Fusion that shows the overall dimensions of all the components in a woodworking design. That output is needed to calculate the quantity of sheet goods required and the linear feet of board required. Without OpenBOM I would have had to derive this info manually, which would be hugely time-consuming and introduce the likelihood of error.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Hello

Thank you very much for your review and feedback.

OpenBOM allows you to send the data from Fusion to OpenBOM once you're ready (eg. finished the design) using the commands.

To delete all data - select all catalogs, the click the delete. Do the same with BOMs. Total 4 clicks.

Best, Oleg

  ### 18. Streamlined BOM Creation with Onshape Integration

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** David J. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 10, 2026

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

I like OpenBOM's simple, robust interface, especially how it integrates with Onshape. It provides a fast way to generate part numbers and synchronize metadata from CAD to BOMs, even when dealing with multiple parts and assemblies. I appreciate that I can create numbers and data for complete assemblies in one operation without having to copy and paste any data.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

Sometimes I have parts in an assembly that I do not want in the BOM and do not want to allocate a part number. My only option is to exclude from Onshape BOM which is not ideal. I would like an easier way for OpenBOM to ignore some parts. Also, the setup was a little slow as OpenBOM had/has a few bugs where it generates a warning of a problem even when there was no issue.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use OpenBOM to generate part numbers and BOMs quickly, synchronizing metadata from CAD to BOMs with multiple parts and assemblies efficiently.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Hi David, thank you for your feedback and review! We are continuously fixing and improving - appreciate your support. Exclude from BOM reads Onshape flag. I'm curious what other idea you suggest to use to exclude data from a BOM? Please feel free to contact our support. Best, Oleg

  ### 19. Efficient Connection with Fusion, Although Some Problems with CAD Files

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 22, 2026

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

I like the ease that OpenBOM offers us at different levels. Having OpenBOM connected to our CAD tool, which in this case is Fusion, has made our work much easier. We can upload parts (.steps) and drawings to OpenBOM very easily and with few steps. Additionally, the connection between different people in the company is excellent, as it is very easy to upload information from Fusion to OpenBOM and later have anyone access it to work more easily and in a very organized manner. Since I started working at the company, OpenBOM has worked very well and has met all the needs of my job, which has facilitated my position. I have already recommended this tool to some friends because it meets our needs in the company very well, so I think it deserves a very good rating for how well it works.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

There is one aspect that is quite challenging for us: we have tried to upload different CAD files (.step) to the platform and it has not updated correctly. We have not been able to upload them to the platform, but we have already contacted the technical department and submitted a ticket to see if we can resolve it. We just have to wait for the update according to the emails we have received.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use OpenBOM to organize information and maintain contact between different departments, which facilitates the work. OpenBOM, by integrating with Fusion, allows you to upload parts and drawings easily, making the work more efficient and organized.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Hello,

Thank you for your feedback.

Currently, Fusion has issues generating STEP files and handling some other use cases because of Autodesk API limitations related to the new Fusion Collaborative Hub feature. We are working with the Autodesk API team and hope Autodesk will fix the Fusion APIs soon.

Please contact our support team for updates.

Best,
Oleg

  ### 20. Efficient Product Categorization with API Access

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jake M. | Staff Consultant, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 26, 2026

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

I use OpenBOM to categorize our products and understand the hierarchy setup. I like the API; it's useful for us to query our products. It allows us to programmatically query it as a source of truth and identify how various parts fit together. The initial setup of OpenBOM was very easy.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

The API sometimes returns a 500 error unexpectedly, maybe when it's supposed to rate limit, I can't tell. The flattened BOMs endpoint is sort of awkward to use, but it's the most effective thing to get all the components of a single BOM.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use OpenBOM for inventory management and categorizing parts. It serves as a source of truth, letting us programmatically query and understand how parts fit together, enhancing our product hierarchy understanding.

  ### 21. Clean UI That Streamlines Ordering, Planning, and Inventory Tracking

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Biotechnology | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 22, 2026

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

OpenBOM has a clean looking UI, and allows for streamlined ordering and production planning between team members. It has helped in making procurement and inventory tracking simpler.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

The workflow in OpenBOM is sometimes tedious and has too many buttons to click to do repetitive tasks. For example, I don't see any ability to add multiple rows are the same time. When you remove an item, it will ask if you want to save this choice, but doesn't actually save it. It seems difficult to do things at a large scale using the program.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

OpenBOM is helping with integrating procurement, CAD with OnShape, and inventory tracking in a robust and traceable manner. It is benefiting the work that I do by improving project planning and procurement

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Hello

Thank you for your feedback and review.

1. Adding multiple lines can be done similar to a regular spreadsheet - select multiple lines, then use right click and it automatically adds the number of lines you selected
2. Saving an option not to ask is dependent on your browser where OpenBOM remembers the info. Check if you're not using an incognito mode.

I will pass your comments to our engineering team to discuss how to improve it.

Best, Oleg

  ### 22. Great for CAD users who spend alot of time preparing drawing and 3D exports for purchasing groups.

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Thomas Z. | design engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 01, 2025

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

I really like that once its setup others without CAD licenses can get models and drawings for reference quicker than asking me. Helps on both ends since they don't have to wait for me to get things ready and I can spend more time focusing on CAD related work.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

I am not the main user at my company for OpenBOM so I'm still not confident on setup and navigation. there is still some work involved in setup per assembly and it does seem to have to be looked over to confirm its not counting any extra parts. cool thing is that once it is setup it seems to be pretty robust to quickly update when changes are made to CAD. just need to get over the initial setup hump.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

saves a ton of time spent preparing data for non-CAD users/groups.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Thomas, thank you for your feedback and review. We are working on OpenBOM enhancements and simplification of commands. Our OpenBOM AI will be providing another way to simplify commands and setups. Best, Oleg

  ### 23. Seamless Fusion 360 Integration, But Needs Better Onboarding

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Leander .

**Reviewed Date:** February 14, 2026

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

I use OpenBOM to track parts in my Fusion360 projects, and I really like how it naturally integrates into my workflow with Fusion. It doesn't feel like a separate system I need to maintain manually because it pulls data straight from the design. This integration is invaluable as it eliminates the need for extra steps like exporting files or rebuilding parts lists manually whenever I tweak my design.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

The initial onboarding experience and getting used to it took some time in the beginning. The biggest onboarding challenge is understanding the workflow logic and overall data structure at the beginning. When you first start OpenBOM, it is not immediately clear how properties, catalogs, BOMs, and Fusion all work together. So more documentation to get a sense of the bigger picture in the beginning would be really helpful. Also, setting up was confusing, as I didn't really know how to install add-ons in the beginning.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use OpenBOM to track parts in my Fusion 360 projects. It handles custom and off-the-shelf parts, simplifying tracking. Its integration eliminates manual parts list updates, pulling data directly from designs, saving me time and effort.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Hello Leander

Thank you very much for you review and feedback. We are continuously improving Fusion integration. Last year, we introduced a "quick start" mode which makes everything seamless and doesn't require to do anything besides the login.

It would be helpful to understand what happened to you.

Do you mind to contact our support and share more?

Best, Oleg

  ### 24. Ditch manual data entry - OpenBOM gets BOM out of Excel, (Potentially) Connected, and Easy to Manage

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Paper & Forest Products | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 27, 2026

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

Saved Views (Configured columns to show and optional their data values) help with repeatable tasks, per a users individual needs
You can model your data in OpenBOM as you wish. That gives a lot of options and flexibility to map data per your needs.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

I would maybe also like to see conditional rules/logic formulas so that I don't have to use API scripts, or more events options to trigger those scripts. If you want PLM based rules for determining lifecycle for example and automated downstream data changes, right now it's manual data entry like in excel, which means manual data maintenance, or figuring out some API customization. I understand this is a design direction choice: connected Excel for BOMs first, then build on that principle to help solve real engineering workflow problems. The flexibility of the platform is an asset, so I'm OK with that for the time being, as they continue to try and find the right balance of workflows vs functionality over time as the platform evolves.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The primary aim is to dispense of manual data entry for all our CAD BOM derived data: prototype orders, ERP BOM input, which makes OpenBOM our bridge between engineering and production.
We can author the MBOM directly on the shop floor in the web UI pulling Part number data directly from the catalog, add aggregated data like photo columns and notes for work instructions.
The MBOM is ready to copy to SAP without any excel shenanigans. Engineering data snapshots (revisions), product structure, and BOM views all live in one place, making easier to understand our product structures outside of PDM (and SAP which has a masters degree in complexity and poor UI.).
If you've spent weeks wrangling engineering data in Excel (it really is the best and worst format for BOMs), and you like companies that think outside the box and want to help you break data silos and connect the data, no more human data entry errors.
Integrate with your ERP (at cost), modify at source and distribute downsteam. OpenBOM is a better place to model your engineering data the way you would in Excel, but with hierarchy, connections, and a UI that helps you understand your product data and structure better than other tools I've found. And a human team not a large corporation at the other end.
For these reasons I'm happy to recommend OpenBOM as a tool that adds value to your business

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Hello and thank you for your thoughtful review. Let me point on some of the issues you're potentially missing and can improve your work overnight.

1. 150% BOM can be filtered with options using Views
2. PDM functions give you what you need for Design BOM (just came out)
3. Pricing - curious what you think about new subscriptions in 2026.

Best, Oleg

  ### 25. Simplicity and Efficiency in BOM Management

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

  ### 27. Revolutionized Inventory Management, Needs UI Modernization

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Nicolò T. | Farmacista, Health, Wellness and Fitness

**Reviewed Date:** February 04, 2026

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

I use OpenBOM for accurate cost estimation and vendor collaboration. I really value the automatic cost roll-up feature since it lets me change the price of a single component, and OpenBOM automatically recalculates the total cost for every assembly that uses it. This real-time visibility into our margins is incredibly valuable. I also like the 'Team Views' feature because it lets us share specific data with external vendors without exposing our entire intellectual property, achieving a great balance between transparency and security. The integration with Fusion360 and Google Drive is also a big plus, making it easy to manage BOM data efficiently within my existing tools. Additionally, the initial setup was fairly straightforward, with useful default templates that got us started quickly, and customizing them as needed was a breeze.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

The User Interface (UI) feels a bit dated and isn't always intuitive. Navigating between the Dashboard, Catalogs, and BOMs requires more clicks than it should. It takes some time for new team members to learn where specific buttons or settings are hidden. A more modern, streamlined look would make the daily workflow much smoother.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use OpenBOM for accurate cost estimation and vendor collaboration. It resolves data disconnection between teams, centralizes inventory, and streamlines processes. I value the automatic cost roll-up and the balance of transparency and security. It prevented errors common with spreadsheets and facilitated easy setup.

  ### 28. Centralize Processes with OpenBOM, Easy but Improvable

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Cecilia T. | Purchasing Officer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 11, 2026

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

I like being able to visualize all the revisions and changes of a list, in case something needs to be corrected. I also enjoy the ability to create different lists, such as lists of suppliers or tools. Additionally, I appreciate the ease of importing and exporting data, being able to choose the columns you need.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

Using the search function with control+F is somewhat slow and confusing. For currency conversion, it doesn't work very well either.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use OpenBOM to centralize product changes and items, update prices, and perform cost analysis. It allows me to view revisions, create various lists, and facilitates the import and export of data.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

  ### 29. Effortless 3D File Linking and BOM Versioning

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Manuel N. | Project manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 08, 2026

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

What I like most is the ability to link 3D files to the BOM, with their versions, and the ability to easily generate different versions of the BOM.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

What I like least is that to make changes within a BOM that has many assemblies, when you want to change a reference you have to keep changing and generating many Change Requests and Change Orders; it would be good if it were more automatic and you made a single Change order/Change request.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Having a catalog of parts with links to their 3D models allows anyone who wants to view or download them independently. Another useful advantage is the approval of change orders/change requests by the relevant departments, ensuring that all changes are reviewed.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Hi Manuel
Thank you for your review and feedback. We are working on automating and improvements of change processes. You can expect them coming later in 2026.
Best, Oleg

  ### 30. Effortless Setup with Comprehensive Features for Engineering

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Chuck P. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 25, 2026

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

I like OpenBOM's features like automatic part numbering and cataloging of different types of parts. The thumbnails allow for visual recognition without needing to open CAD, and customizable columns in catalogs add more information about parts. It's been a lifesaver for easier tracking of part numbers, especially since keeping track with an Excel sheet was nearly impossible. The initial setup was very easy.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

Nothing that I have seen yet.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use OpenBOM for sequential part numbering, revision tracking, and part recognition with thumbnails. It solves tracking part numbers used in projects, making it easier to find parts across catalogs. Customizable columns enhance parts info.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Hello Chuck, Thank you for your feedback and review!

  ### 31. Seamless Fusion 360 Integration, Needs Better Support

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Nick M. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 27, 2026

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

I like that OpenBOM ties into Fusion software and that we can add parts in either Fusion or OpenBOM with the parts syncing seamlessly. The initial setup was very easy.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

Currently our training member is having some difficulty in getting a response from the team -- but that could be because of the time differences. Possibly a 'first time walkthrough' style feature that you can re-enable -- or reminders for it if it already exists for the first week or two of using the software.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use OpenBOM for Fusion 360 integration and solving disorganized spreadsheet inventories.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Hi Nick , thank you for your review and feedback. I sent you a separate email with some clarification you put in the review about someone who is waiting for support. Please check this out. Feel free to contact me at any time.

  ### 32. Streamlines CAD to Supply Chain, Easy Integration with SolidWorks

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Shaun Z. | Senior Mechanical Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 29, 2025

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

I like how well integrated OpenBOM is with SolidWorks. It's very efficient and time-saving to have one click to upload all files like step files, drawings, etc., and control revisions. The initial setup was easy and that makes the transition smooth.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

Sometimes when I update a BOM, some of the new files do not export. I think it has to do with part numbers or part names possibly changing, but it is hard to tell what went wrong when that happens.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

OpenBOM streamlines the process from CAD to supply chain, efficiently managing file uploads and revisions, and integrates well with SolidWorks.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Hello Shaun

Thank you for your feedback and review.

Related to your comment, depending on the data and file size, it can take some time until the data and derivative files will be uploaded.

However, I'd love to understand better the use case you mentioned.

Would you be open to get on a web meeting to elaborate?

Please contact me directly below.

Best, Oleg

  ### 33. Simplicity and Efficiency for BOM Management

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Consumer Electronics | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 22, 2023

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

I appreciate the simplicity of using OpenBOM, especially for adding parts, modifying parts, and tracking changes. It is easy to add and remove properties or fields for each part, which was a problem with our previous tools that required a lot of customizations. OpenBOM seems to already include what we need.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

When you want to compare the different versions, the tool is not easy. It is better to export the two versions to Excel and then make a difference. During a comparison, it would be enough to display the current BOM and add red, green, or blue lines to indicate the modifications (delete, change, add) for example.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use OpenBOM to manage our hardware BOMs and the evolution of our products. It solves the problem of coordinating different parts with a single tool, simplifies the addition and modification of properties without the need for extensive customization.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Thank you very much for your review and feedback! Do you mind sharing more about what features are missing? We're continuously working on OpenBOM improvements and we would like to learn more about what you need. Best, Oleg

  ### 34. Outstanding Experience with This Software

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed Date:** January 08, 2026

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

It greatly improves large assemblies by generating part numbers

It can also inform other team colleages about the current state of a Part

It serves as a cloud for part documentation.

Well integrated into CAD softwares

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

Sometimes, specially with fusion 360, can sometimes give errors retrieving part drawings.

But for me , thats the only "issue" i can give

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Greetings!

Here at Liux it greatly helps with team management by improving efficiency between design engineers and service providers, simply by being all in the same platform.

For example i can design one part, create the required documentation, upload it, and my colleages can access that information, and search possible providers for this part in the other half of the world! ( we work with chinese providers )

Also to keep track of parts in large assemblies.

So this software was indeed a such needed tool for this team.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Hello Iker, thank you very much for your feedback and review. We are continuously working on improve integrations including Fusion. We would love to be able to tack issues you have. Please work with our support when the problematic situation happens. Our engineers will check this out. Best, Oleg

  ### 35. Efficient BOM Management with Seamless CAD Integration

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Uthmaan S.

**Reviewed Date:** December 29, 2025

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

I like the cloud-based BOM management and direct CAD integration the most, as they provide real-time updates, revision control, and a single shared BOM, making collaboration much easier and reducing manual work. Cloud-based BOM management ensures that everyone on the team always sees the latest data, avoiding mistakes from outdated files. CAD integration saves time by automatically pulling part information into the BOM. Revision control helps keep track of changes, ensuring we always know which version is current. I also like the revision tracking and having costs linked directly to the BOM.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

Sometimes it can be a bit slow with very large assemblies, and the learning curve is noticeable if you’re moving from spreadsheets. A few CAD integrations can be a little tricky to set up, so better guidance or tutorials would help.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use OpenBOM to organize product data and manage BOMs, connecting CAD data with purchasing and manufacturing. It resolves outdated and inconsistent BOM issues, ensures alignment, reduces manual work with real-time updates, and CAD integration, making collaboration seamless.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Hello Uthmann

Thank you for your review and feedback.

I'm curious if you can share more information about slowness of OpenBOM, what was the location you used it and more data points about assemblies, size, etc?

That would be helpful for us to understand better issues you had.

Thank you, Oleg

  ### 36. Streamlined Inventory and Assembly, Needs Barcode Integration

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Marcus S.

**Reviewed Date:** February 17, 2026

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

I like the OpenBOM integration with SolidWorks. Whenever I make a part or an assembly, all the drawings are automatically uploaded as PDFs. There's also a snapshot feature that helps someone unfamiliar with the part visualize what it should look like. This makes the whole design process more streamlined.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

I wanted a barcode scanning system for tracking inventory coming in and going out, and that currently is not implemented. There was a lot of grunt work in terms of having to redo file structures, but after that, it was okay.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use OpenBOM for creating POs, assembly documentation, and managing inventory. It helps me track what parts go into which assemblies, streamlining my processes by automatically uploading drawings and providing snapshots for easy visualization.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Hello Marcus

OpenBOM can provide barcode integration. Would you be able to reach out to our support?

Thank you, Oleg

  ### 40. Using OpenBOM for designing a kitchen appliances

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** TJ K. | Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 23, 2024

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

OpenBOM has been a great way to organize all of our parts, assemblies, and drawings. It's super useful to have all of that information in one place, and have it be easy to search through. It's also a great way to link the engineering department and the purchasing department. As an engineer, I can request a part to be purchased, and someone from purchasing can go into OpenBOM and get all the information they need to purchase it.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

It doesn't always send the step files and drawing files when I want it to. It also crashes Solidworks sometimes when trying to push large assemblies.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

OpenBOM has helped to solve the problem of not being able to store all of our part information in a place that's easy to access for everyone in the company.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Hello TJK

Thank you for your review and feedback.

Would you be able to contact us with more info about PDF/STEP and crashes? SOLIDWORKS can be tricky sometimes when working with limited computer resources.

Best, Oleg

  ### 41. Great BOM tool with real world usability and cloud convenience

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** bharath d. | Transaction Processing Analyst, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 07, 2025

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

The thing I appreciate most about OpenBOM is its cloud-first approach to managing complex bill of materials data. Unlike traditional desktop tools, I can access BOMs from any location or device, which has been a game-changer for our remote teams. It's also incredibly handy that it supports real-time updates and collaboration, which keeps everyone in sync without version control issues. The ability to link directly to vendors, prices, and stock levels makes it more than just a BOM tool - it becomes a lightweight procurement platform too.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

One limitation is that the user interface can occasionally feel overwhelming when working with deeply nested BOMs. While it's rich in features, the Ul could be improved with better visual grouping and color coding to reduce cognitive load. Also, sometimes the browser version has minor lag when handling large data sets.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use OpenBOM to consolidate parts lists, track inventory, and manage supplier data in a centralized system. Before this, we were juggling too many spreadsheets, and updates were messy and error-prone. OpenBOM replaced that chaos with a streamlined and collaborative platform. It's also helped us reduce miscommunication between design and procurement teams.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Bharath, thank you very much for your review and feedback! We are working on the improvements and making visual appearance of BOMs easier. I'd love to get on a web meeting with you to discuss how we can simplify some of the features. Please contact our support.

  ### 42. Revolutionized Our Inventory Management

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sachin A.

**Reviewed Date:** November 20, 2025

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

I love how OpenBOM serves as a central hub, keeping our entire ecosystem in sync and reducing the need for juggling spreadsheets and manual stock checks. OpenBOM's real-time updates on component availability across multiple projects is unbeatable. The automatic integration of Engineering BOMs directly into our inventory has eliminated over-ordering and stockouts. Whenever design changes occur, our inventory is updated instantly, ensuring our procurement and production teams are always informed about what we have, what is on order, and what needs reordering — it serves as the backbone of our material and stock planning. I also appreciate the live connection between my BOMs and inventory, with changes reflected immediately without the need for extra syncs, exports, or duplicate spreadsheets. It's like having a real-time inventory assistant alerting us of low stocks and reorder needs. OpenBOM’s exceptional change management, with revision control and history tracking, keeps engineering, procurement, and production aligned, tracing every part, quantity, or specification change easily. I love the efficiency in generating updated cost roll-ups and inventory impacts post-design changes, saving us hours. Additionally, the seamless integration with Fusion 360 makes data transfer effortless whenever a design is updated, keeping our teams aligned and removing tedious spreadsheet exports.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

One area that could be improved in OpenBOM is speed and smoothness when working on large inventories or multi-level BOMs. The system occasionally feels slow when loading complex datasets, especially during high collaboration. I would also like to see intuitive bulk editing tools, for example, easier mass updates to part parameters or faster ways to clean up outdated items. The platform is powerful, but a bit more upgrade in UI responsiveness and data handling would make day-to-day work more efficient.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use OpenBOM to synchronize our ecosystem, solve inventory confusion, and prevent disconnected workflows. It updates stock levels with design changes in real time, eliminating errors, manual checks, and order delays, providing a centralized system for accurate inventory management and seamless procurement alignment.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Hello Sahin, thank you for your feedback and review. I'd love to learn more about your use case. Do you mind to reach out to our support? Best, Oleg

  ### 43. Worried with your BOM management for your inventory ? Try OpenBOM you gonna love it !

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Akash A. | CAD Engineer, Automotive, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 06, 2025

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

I value OpenBOM for its perfect blend of simplicity and robust functionality. Its has seamless CAD integration and real-time collaboration features are my personal favourite. It has installed as plugin within fusion app that it saves significant time, as i no need to launch another application, minimizes errors, and fosters effective teamwork. Features like the part catalog, repetitive usage options, pricing details, division tracking and cloud accessibility makes it one ideal piece of cake in your design software environment. The easy installation process of plugin directly available from fusion plugins site or their official website and 14 days trial makes it getting started even for newbies without wasting their fortune on new softwares.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

OpenBOM offers some powerful features but there are some limitations. I didn't like user interface personally as it feels clunky and outdated, that feels boring. It also not easy to learn and master quickly, as well with its limited headsup resources, makes it quite challenging to implement it 100%. Also, their pricing model is unclear, making it less accessible for smaller teams or startups and makes them to think again before purchase. The lack of a compatible mobile app or web based experience is another limitation, as some users might often need to access and keep track of their data on the go.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use OpenBOM to eliminate spreadsheet headaches, manage BOMs with live data, integrate with CAD, save time, reduce errors, and improve team collaboration.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Akash, thank you for your comments and reviews. We appreciate user interface comments. Here are something you've potentially missed - Youtube channel and training libray website with a lot of resources you can use for implementation, special startup discount and transparent /pricing page online. OpenBOM runs on mobile browser and automatically generated QR code, makes information easy accessible via mobile devices. I hope it helps. Beyond all, our support, which is the best and liked by many customers.

  ### 44. Centralized Component Tracking, with Room for UI Improvement

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Wesley S.

**Reviewed Date:** January 12, 2026

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

I really like being able to keep track of components in one location. Checking our inventory against a BOM and allocating components from my desk is helpful.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

Sometimes the process of creating a BOM and turning it into a purchase order feels overly cumbersome. Especially for small orders or components we have not previously purchased. Additionally, I feel that the UI does not feel intuitive and I have to reference our documentation for how to go through this process more than I would like.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use OpenBOM for managing purchasing requests, device BOMs, and inventory. It helps keep track of required components for device builds, ensures purchase requests are ordered on time, and tracks how many components we have in house.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Hi Wesley , thank you for your review and feedback. Do you mind to share more details about your issues with turning BOM to PO? Maybe you can be open to get on a call with our support to share more? Thank you, Oleg

  ### 45. Streamlines Procurement with Real-Time Sync

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Aravindh K. | Drone Developer & Pilot Instructor

**Reviewed Date:** November 14, 2025

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

I love using OpenBOM for my procurement process because it provides complete readability and control by eliminating the chaos of scattered spreadsheets. It gives me real-time updates, ensuring that I always have the most accurate and up-to-date information about every component, supplier, time, and price without any delays. This real-time sync is a game changer, as I can instantly see any modifications made to parts, which builds my trust in OpenBOM. The software automatically updates quantities, finds shortages before they become a problem, and efficiently manages vendor data, pricing, and deals. I particularly appreciate the shortage alerts that warn me before a supply issue can escalate into a production problem. The rollups and shortage alerts save me from manual calculations, providing complete visibility and eliminating guesswork in the purchasing process. Thanks to OpenBOM, I can confidently make informed decisions, avoid procurement delays, and negotiate effectively. It has replaced much of my previous spreadsheet work and integrates well with other tools, making my workflow smoother and more organized. Additionally, the initial setup of OpenBOM was straightforward, and I was able to connect my tools and import my first Bill of Materials quickly. Overall, OpenBOM simplifies my procurement process, saves time, reduces errors, and streamlines operations, which is why I would highly recommend it.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

I find the overall user interface of OpenBOM could be improved. While it is powerful, some aspects of the workflow still resemble the traditional spreadsheet approach, which could be more streamlined specifically for procurement tasks. When dealing with various vendors and part variants, the layout could be better optimized for these activities. Additionally, I experience some heavy loading times when working with complex BOMs that contain multiple levels and a lot of data. Vendor management is another area that could benefit from improvement, as more integration or customized supplier fields would further simplify purchasing tasks. Although these issues don't cause major problems, enhancements in these areas would make my job smoother.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use OpenBOM for instant visibility into my procurement process, eliminating spreadsheet chaos and preventing delays with real-time updates and shortage alerts, which enhances decision-making and streamlines procurement management.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Hello Aravindh, thank you for your review and feedback. I'm a bit surprised by your comment about customized fields. OpenBOM data model is completely flexible and you can add any attributes. Do you mind to contact our support and to validate that use case? Thank you, Oleg

  ### 47. Very Organize Software with a lot of features!

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Benel K. | Embedded Engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 24, 2025

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

The Organize website with the search tool

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

One of the main challenges with OpenBOM is the learning curve—the interface can feel unintuitive at first, and it sometimes takes extra time to set up workflows correctly. Performance can also be inconsistent when dealing with very large BOMs, leading to slower response times. Additionally, while integration options are useful, they may require manual configuration and don’t always sync as smoothly as expected. Finally, the cost structure can feel high for smaller teams, especially when only a subset of features is needed.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

OpenBOM helps centralize and organize our Bill of Materials, which reduces the time spent on manual spreadsheets and version control issues. It solves the problem of data consistency by ensuring that everyone on the team works with the most up-to-date information. The ability to link parts, suppliers, and costs in one place has made procurement and inventory planning more efficient, reducing errors and delays. Collaboration is also easier, since different departments can access and update BOM data in real time, which ultimately improves workflow and speeds up product developme

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Hello Benel,

Thank you very much for your review and feedback. Would you be open to a quick conversation to share more thoughts about intuitiveness and setup?

Thank you,
Oleg

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Archana D. | Analyst, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 21, 2025

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

OpenBOM has automated our complex BOM's with ease and revision work. built ability to pull data from CAD, streamlines instantly, and prevents mix up or duplication.

Everyone from design to purchasing uses the same clean data.
It’s a big step out from grids or spreadsheets

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

It could have been more use friendly cause initially it took some time to learn how to use everything, The interface isn’t always as simple as I’d like. though its not a difficult task to figure out, it would really help us if we have some build in tips icon within the platform ., you know whenever we want to discover something we can simply use the tips icon

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

To be straightforward, OpenBOM is simply a tool that can replace routine manual processes with real-time digital ones. It also integrates directly with our CAD tools for every single change. There is no need for manual intervention to update our pricing, sourcing, and part data, thereby improving our turnaround times (TAT) and ensuring the most accurate inventory records.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

  ### 49. Worst platform for Creating bom

**Rating:** 0.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Nensi A. | Assistant Manager, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 14, 2025

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

There is nothing particularly good about open BOM. They seem mainly interested in getting positive reviews on G2 to make marketing easier for themselves, promising rewards in exchange. However, even after submitting a review, they do not actually provide the promised reward. I would advise not to be misled by their reward offers.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

The thing that i actually dislike is waiting time while it generates the BOM for the whole product and then you can’t switch on to another window.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I don’t think it’s that easy to use Open BOM whatever it is doing, it already exist with other softwares like solidworks, catia, simensNX

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Dear Nensi,

Thank you very much for your honest feedback.

The reward is paid by G2, so please contact us at support@openbom.com
and we’ll help figure out what happened with your review. I tried to locate your account, but I couldn’t find a user named “Nansi A” in OpenBOM, so I wasn’t able to verify the details.

Regarding the technical issues — have you had a chance to speak with our team? The systems you mentioned are complex, and data uploads can sometimes take time, but we always investigate these cases and assist our customers. Our support team is always happy to help.

Also, the value OpenBOM provides goes far beyond generating BOM reports. In fact, I imagine this is what brought you to OpenBOM too — looking for a better way to handle these challenges.

Looking forward to hearing more from you.

Best,
Oleg

  ### 50. My Experience Using OpenBOM for Product Data Management

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Balaji H. | Procurement Operations Associate, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 20, 2025

**What do you like best about OpenBOM?**

Keeps track of changes, which is critical for product lifecycle management. Ability to manage cost roll-ups and supplier data efficiently. The integration with CAD tools is a huge time-saver, and the version control feature gives us confidence in tracking changes accurately. Overall, it makes BOM management faster, more organized, and transparent.

**What do you dislike about OpenBOM?**

OpenBOM has great functionality, but I wish the interface was more intuitive. At times, it feels like too many options are packed into a single view, which can be confusing for beginners and Occasionally, the integration setup with certain CAD tools can feel a bit technical and requires extra time to configure.

**What problems is OpenBOM solving and how is that benefiting you?**

OpenBOM helps us eliminate the chaos of managing BOMs in spreadsheets and emails. It centralizes all our product data, making it easy to keep everything up-to-date and accessible to the team. The ability to link CAD data directly into the BOM has also streamlined our design-to-production workflow, saving both time and cost.

**Official Response from Oleg Shilovitsky:**

> Hello Balaji,

Thank you for your review and feedback.

We are working on improving the user interface and overall intuitiveness. This is not a simple task, as we need to balance it against the growing demand for new features.

The CAD setup reflects the inherent complexity of CAD systems. We are continuously improving, but since we support dozens of CAD system options, this sometimes results in additional technical setup steps.

It would be very helpful if you could contact our support team and share more details.

Best regards,
Oleg
