Simple, fast to learn and very fast to do parts and assemblies. Since then I use only this software! And I recommend it to everyone! Overall it has everything most engineers need for solid modeling, sheet metal modelling, etc. **What do you dislike about Onshape?** Making drawings is the worst part by far. It is extremely laggy and has a delay for everything. It sucks spending 10 minutes making a part and 20 minutes creating a drawing. Overall its the biggest drag with the software. There are other issues with the drawings, such as not being able to make small movement that you would find in any other drawing software. Its gotten better, but even after working with Onshape support it didnt improve. The issue stems from a large number of entities such no text which seem to slow it down. **What problems is Onshape solving and how is that benefiting you?** We need to design parts in 3D. Its easy to use and even easier to export. The help centre is great. They usually reply withing a day or maybe even the next. The interface is clear and the 3D and 2D visuals. I like the way the drawings are made easy with the inserting of views. I use it on a daily basis and use it inteseively. **What do you dislike about Onshape?** When making drawings, it needs to be more like any other CAD software. I guess Onshape is working on that still but it needs some time to get used to. Sometimes the document can be laggy which makes it a bit frustrating to use. **What problems is Onshape solving and how is that benefiting you?** Centralising all drawings into 1 folder and all the assemblies that can be integrated into each other. ### 4. Everything is tied together, and once you learn how to navigate that without making a mess of things in the PDM software your workflow gets substantially more efficient. ### 11. Its real-time editing allows multiple users to work together, and is it's real plus. The software's version control needs a bit of time to understand but works well. As a cloud based platform, you can access it with any device **What do you dislike about Onshape?** The learning curve is quite steep at the beginning. You need a fast internet connection to be able to work, which can be a bit underwhelming. And it becomes more useful when you want a feedback from your senior as quickly as possbile. In terms of part design, it is simply too convenient to have all the parts to be glanced in a single 3d environment other than the assembly. **What do you dislike about Onshape?** That being said, it still has a long way to go, for example drawing environment is not up to the standard set by its peers. You never need to install a new version. Everyone is using the same version globally. Being able to colaborate over distance is a major plus as I work remotely but can still work on things that the people in the shop are looking at and referencing. Customer support is A+! I have used other CAD systems that wanted to charge me hourly tech support to solve issues with the program. Onshape is very quick to respond to any emails sent and either show what I've missed or offer a solution to the problem. Also, several of the things that I have mentioned as 'nice to have' features have been implemented in updates so it is very encouraging to have the product growing in response to user feedback. **What do you dislike about Onshape?** There are still some things that Onshape doesn't have that other CAD programs have had but every program seems to have something that others don't and it appears to just be a matter of time before Onshape will have added all the shortcuts that I was used to in other programs. The Android version of Onshape is a bit underwelming but the fact that I can show things on my phone is pretty great! **What problems is Onshape solving and how is that benefiting you?** Onshape is the primary CAD program that my company uses. It allows for easy collaboration between remote employees and head office. As well as multiple users working on the same projects. ### 26. This is truely a program suitable for experts without the barriers for non-experts to develop their skills and produce fantastic results. **What do you dislike about Onshape?** Occasionally I have had to go back into the training courses a couple of times to get my head round a couple of the more complex functions - but I think that is to be expected when you have such a broad and complex software package. **What problems is Onshape solving and how is that benefiting you?** It allowed me to access a high quality CAD package from my Chromebook - with which most packages are not compatible. I could design highly complex parts, without much experience of CAD and no formal training and was also able to generate patent drawings using the system. It's in the browser - everything is a link, making sharing, discussing, collaborating with everyone within your company very natural. View only access is free, meaning your support team can access your CAD directly, securely, with no extra licenses. This reduces the friction, and also reduces how much docuemntation we need to maintain to fully enable our support to solve issues on their own. Admin controls are clear, concise, easy to use, and it is built so you can try something, change your mind, and adapt the tool to your company's needs, instead of forcing certain early decisions that lock you into a sub-optimal decision forever (other programs tend to do this a lot). This makes implementation easy. It's stable - I've never lost more than a second of work history due to power outages, computer issues, or internet issues. It's hung a few times in the last year (infrequent), but a quick refresh on the browser, and I'm right back to where I was. Customer support is included, and they don't discern between bugs and issues vs 'how to use' questions. They just want to help, and are extremely responsive. Pricing is transparent, and there are no hidden 'gotchas.' Export naming conventions combined with their google drive integrations are extremely powerful, and have enabled a whole suite of low-code automations that have enabled us to effectively automated 90% of the work to translate to an ERP, and the options to build more direct interfaces exist for the long term. They are constantly releasing new and useful features, and are attentive to feature requests. A concern of mine was once they were acquired by PTC, innovation would slow or stop, but they certainly have shown no signs of slowing down. I've had feature requests get implemented within two weeks (this was definitely an exception, but was impressive none the less). Overall, it's pretty fast. It's faster than Solidworks for most things, and does well with large assemblies, but will still get bogged down with very large assemblies. We will have 25 million triangle modesl / 5,000 bodies, and will get some slow down, but it still performs significantly better than Solidworks did for the same size assemblies. Not as fast for huge assemblies as CREO or CATIA, but for the cost, ease of use, implementation, and what we actually use it for, it knocks everything else out of the water. **What do you dislike about Onshape?** Large assembly drawings can be a bit slow. Items are useful, but would be a game changer if they could be edited by spreadsheets. (You can upload items via spreadsheet which is great, but not edit as of when I'm writing this). Version control is very good, branching a part into a different part to test a different idea is really easy and straight forward. Do you like it? Merge it into the main. Is it a dead end, close it off and continue with the main branch. GitHub like version management. Surfacing is very good, but I still need to train myself even more in it. Good training video's and training tutorials available. I have used onshape daily for about 2 years. Easy to give other people read access, read write access, and be able to take it away when necessary. This makes a lot of sense, because in practice every assembly has parts that have to fit together. What is always complicated and time-consuming to plan with file-based systems can be done in no time at all with Onshape. As the data is consistently stored in the cloud single source of truth, the references are never lost. Agile development with different variants and versions is child's play. A new version for an entire assembly, including drawings, is created in just a few seconds. Data is never lost and you can always go back to an old version. Onshape excels in the way it handles CAD data and can be seen as a prime example of the advantages of cloud applications, even outside of CAD applications (why doesn't MS Office work in the same way?). Did I already talk about updates? No need to worry about this anymore. All Onshape users are on the same page and data is always compatible for real time collaboration. We users have adapted to deal with the problems of classic CAD data in the past. These days are over fortunately. Onshape impressively solves many of these pain points and shows a bright future for CAD work. This is just the beginning. **What do you dislike about Onshape?** Onshape now has a very good range of functions. However, certain detailed functions still lack the functionality required to keep up with the long-standing leaders in the CAD industry. However, with the many automatic updates, Onshape is quickly catching up and is also suitable for professional use in many areas of product development. For many external partners who are not familiar with Onshape, online collaboration is still unfamiliar and they ask if I can send the data as an STP file by e-mail.
