"User-friendly" in ERP usually means one of two things: easy to learn when you are new, or easy to use daily once you know it. Those are not the same. A system can have a shallow learning curve and still be genuinely painful to operate at volume. What matters for a lean team is whether a non-specialist can actually run and maintain it without constantly waiting on outside support.

From reviews in the ETO ERP category with that filter in mind:

Total ETO: Reviews from companies at this scale describe fast implementation and a system that users learn without significant training investment. The item master is specifically called out as intuitive for searching and tracking parts across projects, and the BOM entry process is described as forgiving when corrections are needed. The support team is named individually in multiple reviews as being genuinely helpful and consistent over time.

Syspro: One reviewer described getting comfortable navigating the system within three weeks. The built-in help prompts that explain error codes are a practical feature for a team without a dedicated ERP admin. For customization without a developer, the Business Objects automation layer lets smaller teams build out processes themselves.

Kinetic (Epicor): The web interface landing pages receive credit for searchability and discoverability that the classic client lacked. New users describe a shorter ramp-up time than expected. The setup phase is when reviewers who later struggled describe having underinvested.

Rootstock Cloud ERP: If the team already uses Salesforce, the user experience shares the same platform. Being cloud-native means no on-premises infrastructure to maintain, significantly reducing the IT burden for smaller operations.

What did the day-to-day experience actually look like six months in, after the initial training period was over?

"Doesn't need a specialist" never means the admin work disappears. It means it lands on someone who already has a full-time job. So the question for the vendor isn't about the learning curve, it's about the boring recurring stuff: adding a user, tweaking a workflow, closing the year, applying an update. Ask who does each of those. If the honest answer is "you call your partner," then you do have a specialist, just an external one billing by the hour, and that belongs in the cost comparison. For anyone at this size without a dedicated ERP person, the last time your process changed, could someone in-house make the change, or did it mean phoning the implementer?
