The API makes custom-built integrations a breeze. While the service is sometimes sluggish when doing heavy lifting by our power users, most of our users don't experience any performance issues. **What do you dislike about NetX | DAM?** The permissions (which are currently in the process of being overhauled) are unintuitive and hard to navigate, one small change can cause a butterfly affect. I'm hoping the overhaul improves the system because it's our biggest pain point. When doing heavy lifting either through bulk uploads or bulk edits, the system can get sluggish or unresponsive - usually resulting in waiting a few hours or until the next day to finish a project. **What problems is NetX | DAM solving and how is that benefiting you?** We've been in desperate need of better assets management and NetX helps us organize our digital assets in ways that make data accessible and findable for all staff. Onboarding was thorough and the migration into NetX was very smooth. The admin functions of the system are robust and the documentation in the Knowledge Base makes everything very easy. As for the UI, we rolled out to all of our users more than a month ago and have had nothing but positive feedback so far. **What do you dislike about NetX | DAM?** I haven't come up with anything I dislike about the product or the NetX team. Any features/fixes can be requested and voted on by NetX customers. In the past we struggled with on-prem servers, so moving to the cloud has alleviated a lot of functionality problems. We are currently working on integrating NetX with other systems which will reduce redundant work and solve some storage issues. ### 9. It integrated pretty seamlessly with our archival system once we identified the metadata fields we wanted to sync over to NetX. We were able to get our system up and running pretty soon after starting the project. The one item to be aware about is managing your intermediate database, unless you're fine with a direct connection from NetX to your archiving system. For us, we went with the former for our own purposes, and the team at NetX were helpful in troubleshooting a slight problem we had. Now that everything's set up, we're good to go! **What do you dislike about NetX | DAM?** The UI could use a bit of updating. Being on the engineering side myself, I can see some basic Material UI is being used, which can be a little finicky at first with the animations. Aside from that, nothing else to note. **What problems is NetX | DAM solving and how is that benefiting you?** NetX is enabling us to consolidate our several systems for managing our assets into a single place of truth in front of our main archiving system. It acts as a bit of a gateway for us that we have control over, and we're planning some larger initiatives around NetX that'll allow us to utilize the NetX API to serve various types of our assets in our different web applications. ### 10. The UX is very intuitive and clear. The onboarding process was extremely well-planned and thorough so that our team was well-equipped to jump right in on launch day. In the first month of use, we saw huge improvements in our teams' productivity and feel that we're now really well set up for future growth. We feel very supported by the NetX tech support site as well as the team from the demo all the way through implementation. We looked at dozens of DAMs and could not have been happier with choosing NetX. **What do you dislike about NetX | DAM?** I cannot think of anything that we dislike about NetX. It is an extremely good fit for our company and the user experience has been virtually flawless from the beginning. **Recommendations to others considering NetX | DAM:** We have found NetX to be a perfect fit for our company of approximately 30 employees, but I can easily see how it would also work for smaller or even much larger teams. The interface is extremely intuitive and scalable and the onboarding process is customized to make sure the site does exactly what you need it to do. **What problems is NetX | DAM solving and how is that benefiting you?** We needed a centralized, accessible database for photography and visual assets. Our top priorities were that we needed to be able to search and filter files based on custom criteria, to easily share assets within our team and with outside collaborators, and to catalog versions and avoid duplication of files. We've been able to quickly and easily implement all of these features on NetX, along with many other features that we weren't even anticipating, but which have inspired new efficiencies in our workflows. ### 11. It's easy for end-users to figure out with minimal training (the online resources are fantastic). The onboarding was extremely good. The few requests we've had for changes have already been implemented in the 15 months since we started using it. **What problems is NetX | DAM solving and how is that benefiting you?** Many problem. Primarily we needed to quickly enable access to our images from anywhere (the necessity of which accelerated due to the pandemic). A few of NetX's add-on applications could use upgrades to make their interfaces more responsive/dynamic but I'm happy with them overall. It's nice to know that when you have an issue, that you are supported. **What problems is NetX | DAM solving and how is that benefiting you?** We've developed a University-wide online portal, with brand guidelines, images, and templates that our organizations can use to develop high-quality, 'on-brand' marketing materials. Users can come to this Portal, find the images and marketing materials (i.e., logos, fonts) that they need, learn about the brand, and create designs directly in the website. ### 17. The brand portals are especially great and make the DAM look and feel like a website. Even the least tech-savvy people will feel at home using the Next brand portal interface. **What do you dislike about NetX | DAM?** Internet Explorer is not a supported web browser. I know Microsoft no longer support IE, but a lot of our users still have IE as their default browser. **Recommendations to others considering NetX | DAM:** Definitely take advantage of the onboarding process. Netx was super helpful getting us set up and making sure we've thought about everything ahead of time. Also, I would highly recommend that you use brand portals. Their support team is very attentive and open to new ideas -- including a few that have helped streamline our processes. The team's onboarding process is extensive and very helpful. We were with another popular platform before switching to NetX and as the administrator and an end user, I am confident we made the right move. **What do you dislike about NetX | DAM?** One thing I would like to see improved is how the folder structure is shown. It can be difficult to see the different layers of the tree when folders are opened. **Recommendations to others considering NetX | DAM:** I would make sure you have plenty of time to prepare the images for upload. We were using a (much) older version of NetX that our employees found confusing, but I've only heard good things about how easy it is to use the filters and save custom searches. There are ways for people from outside of your organization to view and submit assets, as well. The online guide is comprehensive and I've always heard back from the service rep quickly if I have any additional questions. He's always taken the time to train me or do a walk-through if it's a complicated situation. **What do you dislike about NetX | DAM?** These may only apply to the on-prem version but I have to go through IT to make some changes that I hoped would be easier to do, such as remove some of the standard filters and re-order them in a way that would make more sense for our organization. It's possible, but not with basic admin rights. We've also had a long-standing issue with people sometimes not being able to login immediately. IT and NetX are working on it, but it's frustrating. People also need to use Google Chrome to log in, as they are unable to with Microsoft Edge / Explorer. The last thing is with permissions. For the most part, they are great. It's easy to change individual permissions or add a person to a group for generalized permissions. When you order the permissions, you need to put them in a specific order with the strictest permissions on top or the more permissive permission would override it. The help guide does mention a hierarchy but it's unclear that it means it in a literal way. **What problems is NetX | DAM solving and how is that benefiting you?** My organization has a lot of images and presentations that are used by a number of departments. NetX makes it much easier for them to find what they are looking for, both with searches and previews. It also makes it easier for them to verify if something is restricted for internal use or can be shared externally. ### 21. Moreover the filters on the backend (app) are pretty detailed and let you organize and custom tag very efficiently. **What do you dislike about NetX | DAM?** The UI can be made more intuitive especially on the backend (app). Going back and forth with the folder hierarchy gets a little time consuming. **Recommendations to others considering NetX | DAM:** If you have a large media storage with no organization and multiple users uploading data and/or sharing it with external folks then you should look into NetX. The file storage does not have to be images but it is more helpful with images as it uses Google Vision to identify images and tag them so it becomes easier to search. **What problems is NetX | DAM solving and how is that benefiting you?** NetX is pretty helpful in managing our digital storage. We used to have shared network drives with data spread across without any organization plus we had a lot of duplicate data, which was actually 60%+ of our overall data. NetX helped solved the issue of organization of all our media storage (images, videos etc.) so not only it is organized but also with zero duplicates. It identifies duplicates using hash algorithm such as md5, however you can still have a single file in stored in multiple locations. **Official Response from Dan Savickas:** > Thanks for the review! Everything from initial demos, onboarding, and continual support has been an excellent experience. I've had a positive rapport with everyone I've interacted at NetX and it really makes a huge difference to actually look forward to communicating with them. I'm also very impressed with the approach to their product. Core functionality that comes standard is expansive, and does almost everything you'd want a digital asset management system to do "straight out of the box". There really isn't a need to "build" additional custom functionality to make it work for you. When they do add new functionality, it gets built into a new release and all clients get to benefit. Lastly, they have a lot of experience working with cultural heritage institutions and understand all the unique requirements, integrations, and related software specific to this sector. **What do you dislike about NetX | DAM?** They are very dedicated to consistently improving their product which is a very good thing. However, they have an aggressive release schedule that might make it difficult for larger, complex organizations to keep up with the latest versions. Luckily our specific implementation is very focused and this hasn't been a problem for us. **What problems is NetX | DAM solving and how is that benefiting you?** NetX is currently supporting the daily image, audio, and video asset workflows for the following cross-functional organizational activities: Collections Management/Registration, Rights and Reproductions, Curatorial, Educational Programming, Graphic Design, Marketing, Communications, E-mail Marketing, Social Media, Publications, Development, and Special Events. NetX has allowed us to centralize our most valuable digital assets into their platform to support a multitude of workflows in a very cost-effective way. Have not previously worked with a DAM that can be tailored so effectively to fit the digital content needs of an organization. NetX offers multiple options for configuring attribute fields which are critical for attaining optimal search efficiencies. There are several different workflows that can be set up for asset ingestion. This is particularly useful when assets are originating from multiple sources and basic metadata needs to be captured during upload. Portals can be built if there is a need to provide a curated set of assets to a specific audience. NetX can also be integrated with other software systems - another example of its flexibility. NetX solicits user feedback through an Ideas Portal where requests for improvements or new features can be made. Quite often these requests become part of product updates - which are frequent. Customer Service and Technical Support are exceedingly professional and response times are very quick. Customer Service is more than willing to spend time addressing issues and answering questions. Very accommodating and easy to work with. When they can't help instantly they really listen to the issue and regularly act to implement solutions in product updates. There's a Product Feedback and Ideas site too ... actively monitored by NetX ... so all customers get the chance to input suggestions! Recently updates have been flowing very regularly ( as in every month or so... ) and have been adding features requested by users. **What do you dislike about NetX | DAM?** Nothing major. Any product has little irritations here and there. GUI design elements that could be optimized, features which could be built out, workflows that could be better. NetX is no exception, but as the product becomes more comfortable in it's HTML 5 iteration these things are diminishing. EDIT - almost every one of these factors has received attention over the past year. The attention to small details all build on each other to create a better experience and less friction. There's still a few things to refine ... and there always will be ... but I'm 100% confident that NetX have it in hand. **What problems is NetX | DAM solving and how is that benefiting you?** Consolidating media holdings. Enabling staff to locate media more readily. Distribution of assets to other departments and media outlets. Pubic access to curated media. More recently our NetX has taken on the role of receiving assets for daily news production workflows. It's great. New material arrives and is instantly available to everyone who needs it. Our instance of NetX has also served as an example to other business units who are now implementing their own NetX systems ( very different use-cases though!) ### 27. For users managing assets on a frequent basis, the DAM has multiple uploading capabilities, from direct uploads on the web-browser to a stand-alone upload application that can be set up for syncing files from your computer and allows uploads to run in the background while you continue to work on other tasks. For those that are data-minded, NetX has various options to set up unique attribute fields within the DAM that can be configured for optimal search capability and be used as search filters. Existing metadata from files, including data stored in IPTC, EXIF, Camera Raw, and Dublin Core fields, can be synced to NetX's attributes upon import to the DAM, and there are systems set up to auto-tag and apply attributes to newly-imported assets, which greatly simplify the tagging process for new files. For users that simply need to browse the DAM for viewing, searching, sharing and downloading of files, NetX offers a Portal instance that is visually appealing, has more of a website feel and simplifies the experience of interacting with the DAM. Micro CMS pages can also be configured on the portal, which is a great tool for organizations to highlight content within the DAM and tailor brand communications that further the mission of the organization. We were able to implement a system that allows us to use all the functions that we identified were needed to be successful and the room to grow and refine our system. The implementation process was great. Our rep walked us through everything and answered all of our questions. We started our rollout earlier this summer and everything is going great! Our campus is excited about the template editor and the access to all our brand assets. **What problems is NetX | DAM solving and how is that benefiting you?** We need members of our organization to be able to search, share and download brand assets. We need a central location to house these things and a way for people to log in and get these assets. The biggest selling point to our organization though was the ability to edit online templates and download the art. ### 50. I've never been left with an unresolved issue. **What do you dislike about NetX | DAM?** Honestly, any little issue I've had has been met with openness and a willingness to work with me to develop these features, especially if other clients have expressed the same desire. **What problems is NetX | DAM solving and how is that benefiting you?** Storage of digital assets in a shared folder structure has made for clumsy and difficult search and retrieval.
