The best part is how you can tweak everything to fit your style. If you have used vim then using neovim is very simple. If you’re into learning shortcuts and want a powerful tool that works exactly how you want it, Neovim is perfect. Just be ready to spend some time figuring it all out. I really like the extensible scripting language and the large ecosystem that can be tapped onto to suit my needs on any computer related tasks. On a given day I have to do the following: - take notes / screenshots for meetings - commit code for various repos - write some bash script to automate some task more simply - make notes to track steps taken to replicate an event For these scenerios I've been able to download and use plugins that enhance my workflow so I can finish these tasks on the fly or as they come up. - note taking: I was able to use coc with markmap extension. This allows me to see, in realtime, how things are related to each other and how the markdown notes are coming along on a browser. This pairing is great and effective. - code: I'm able to use fugitive when editing code. This allows me to do anything from adding / committing / pushing code up to the repo without leaving the editor. This makes the process of doing work effective with minital distraction of using a different application. The pairing of terminal and editor cannot have a more perfect arrangement. - bash: for this I often use bash lsp and autocomplete to help me draft up quick function and aliases that I can test right away. This helps me iterate and refine all my needs. - note: Editor allows me to draft up quick fast notes that can be put into tickets for verbose progression of what I'm doing. And it'll probably take a lifetime to be proficient in this editor due to the large amount of features / development / plugin systems currently out there supporting this editor. The process can be daunting. Which is why I don't recommend users try it once the start coding. Because there are many other products that will get people up and going and productive. Well, I'm no expert, but there are some things I really dig. First off, it's like a supercharged version of Vim. You know, that old-school text editor? Neovim keeps all that Vim goodness but adds some modern flair. Customization is my jam. Neovim's plugins and stuff make it easy to tweak things. I can personalize it to fit my coding style, which is a lifesaver. Plus, there's this awesome community making tons of plugins for everything. I can't get enough of those. Speed? Oh yeah, Neovim's fast. Even with huge files, it doesn't break a sweat. It does its magic in the background, so I don't have to wait around. That's a game-changer when you're in the zone. You'll be pressing random keys and wondering why nothing works at first. But once you get the hang of it, it's like a superpower. Another thing, no fancy GUI. It's all terminal-based, which might not be everyone's cup of tea. A nice, shiny GUI would be cool for those who like pretty things. Lastly, the documentation can be a maze. I wish it were more noob-friendly. You kinda have to stumble around and figure things out on your own. It'd be nice if they held your hand a bit, especially when you're starting.
