Great client application for NoSQL database **Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars **Reviewed by:** Aníbal M. | Programador sénior - Lider de proyectos, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.) **Reviewed Date:** July 07, 2021 **What do you like best about Navicat for MongoDB?** I am a java backend programmer and I have to perform operations with a Mongo database, I like to use this client because it allows me a connection to the Mongo server and additionally export and import the configurations, it allows me a Grid view, a tree view and a JSON view. It allows importing and exporting the data to plain text in various formats. I also like that it allows for full backups and restorations. One feature that I like is the synchronization of the connections and the scripts since it allows me to work from the office or from home in a synchronized way. The program is light and I can recommend it. **What do you dislike about Navicat for MongoDB?** I don't particularly appreciate that the cost of the corporate license is high, which limits its widespread use in some companies. I have had occasional problems where the program has stopped working, and I have had to finish the task to start again. In my experience in Linux operating systems, this application is not optimized **What problems is Navicat for MongoDB solving and how is that benefiting you?** I have been able to visualize the raw data when I have problems during the API programming, also to perform backups and fast restores, which speeds up the programming time. ### 3. I rely on it daily! **What do you dislike about Navicat for MongoDB?** If I had to pick something about this product I’d say while it is an incredibly easy tool to use (in my opinion) some colleagues that are less versed in SQL have trouble. This speaks more to the skill set of the user than the tool but that being said, documentation of almost any tool can always be improved. **What problems is Navicat for MongoDB solving and how is that benefiting you?** I’m managing our first party data and writing queries that provide data driven answers to business questions at hand. ### 4. Don't be confused by the high version number of 12.x.x. It was versioned that way to match the latest version of their flagship product, Navicat Premium. Navicat for MongoDB is packed with useful features, some of which I have yet to explore fully. That being said, some of my favorite include the Collection and View designers, as well as the Analyze Schema utility. **What do you dislike about Navicat for MongoDB?** My only complaint so far, and it's a fairly minor one, is that the View Designer still requires the user to be fairly knowledgeable about Pipeline syntax. Although Navicat will generate the final script for you, the pipeline expressions do have to be entered correctly. **Recommendations to others considering Navicat for MongoDB:** Navicat for MongoDB offers a free 14 day trial. I made use of it to try out the various features and found that it met my needs quite nicely. **What problems is Navicat for MongoDB solving and how is that benefiting you?** I've long found that there has been a lack of professional grade database administration tools for MongoDB. Moreover, having grown up in the era of Windows, I was never highly fond of command line interfaces. Being a NoSQL database, MongoDB has a syntax that is somewhat unique to it, one that takes some getting used to. I much prefer working with Navicat's GUI interface to the MongoDB shell.
