What do you dislike about Name.com?
Be careful!! It appears Name.com uses analytics to spot cool new domain requests and will then "front-run" you and take your idea, in order to put it back on the market for sale for over 2,000$ :-DD Great business model, applause to the founders!!!!
Why am I saying it?:
Few days ago, I searched on Name.com the availability of a small niche domain called "www.better.design". Not only was it available, but the analytic of Name.com indicated basically that it's a great choice (because the name is simple, short and to the point). So I bought everything with my MasterCard and was happy as a professional designer.
But what followed next was weird - and appears to be a scam:
Instead of sending me a confirmation of the registration - www.Name.com has delayed the whole registration, because:
1. I was asked one day later by a manual email (by a guy from India) to upload my german passport ID manually via email to the customer support, supposedly for validation (which I did, although I found it weird)
2. I got a second manual email from the support, saying "they validated everything successfully, but now they supposedly cannot charge by international MasterCard, because the german card does not work supposedly - although it works and I have more than enough balance it :-D
And now the funny part:
I double-checked everything with my german bank - everything works as always - but when I return to www.Name.com, then my domain is now for sale on Name.com for 2,500$ !!! LOL
Of course, they can say this is a coincidence, but the "better.design" is a small niche domain, so not everyone searches for it and once again sending me manual emails from support in India, claiming supposedly my card would not work or I need to manually send my ID card (which was not part of registration process) ... just to put the domain 2 days later for sale for 2,500$ ?
I believe, the founders of Name.com ... have an analytics system running in the background, that identifies opportunities and they earn their big money, not by selling you cheap domains, but by using these analytics for "Front-Running". Congratulations to you, founders of Name.com!! haha
Well, in my case, I learn that I should have stayed with my german legit domain provider that is regulated, than trying Name.com .
Maybe it is all just a big coincidence that happened to me, but be cautious with this provider!!
