"Moodle's flexibility is the best."
What do you like best about Moodle?

Initially, I had some reservations about Moodle since I wasn’t very familiar with it, especially having used other platforms like Docebo. But after three weeks of testing courses and extracting analytics, I can confidently say that it is very user-friendly and efficient. What sets Moodle apart from other platforms is that it has flexibility and customization option s. It allows for more control over the course design, enabling instructors to tweak and adjust content more easily. I'd say Moodle is a very powerful tool, it has so much flexibility. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Moodle?

One thing I dislike is that I'm unable to install additional plug-ins since I have Moodle Cloud. I was hoping to use certain templates that require plug-ins, as they would help make our business' LMS appear more organized and conducive to learning. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Decent, but lacking"
What do you like best about Moodle?

Moodle's open-source architecture and plugin-friendly environment make for a platform that can be fully customized to fit your needs... provided that you have the programming skills to create the plugins that you need. There are many available community plugins that can expand the base features but should be installed with some trepidation as just as many have not been maintained or documented sufficiently.

Learners find navigating the platform to be easy and enjoy its look-and-feel. Instructors for content that are more similar to "higher education learning" find the gradebooks to be intuitive and like the access control they have to release content on a schedule. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Moodle?

The paid "Workplace" edition of Moodle offers a handful of additional features that would not otherwise be present, but these features fall considerably short of what the competition has to offer. That being said, their price is considerably cheaper than the alternatives. Future buyers should spend additional time during the discovery period to ensure that all needs will be met without relying on 3rd party plugins before making a decision.

Setting up the platform is complex as implementing new changes require you to navigate through many menus and sub-menus and even more hidden sub-sub-sub-menus where a single toggle can be the difference between proper access and frustration for end users. Documentation of these features is frequently lackluster and often outdated, referencing past versions that have received significant updates since. Customer Support is slow, but the Learning Designers on their team are empathetic and will take the time to research any inquiries and provide workarounds if the software does not function as expected "out-of-the-box". Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Moodle: efficient and reliable for online training"
What do you like best about Moodle?

I particularly appreciate the variety of activities that Moodle allows us to offer: different types of quizzes, files, videos, SCORM, etc. I also like the learner tracking, which is very comprehensive and practical for assessing their progress. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Moodle?

The quizzes lack a bit of interactivity. Moreover, it is not possible to record a single score for multiple activities: when a Storyline module includes several exercises, I am forced to add an additional activity to calculate the average for Moodle. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Good Features but Not Cost-Effective for Clients"
What do you like best about Moodle?

I appreciate Moodle's user-friendliness; it's straightforward to understand and easy to get onboard. I find that the platform's ability to support hybrid learning through Zoom integration and virtual lesson capabilities is a valuable feature. Also, Moodle being an open-source platform is innovative, affordable, and accessible, making it a great tool for delivering solutions to underdeveloped areas. It's particularly useful as a repository for knowledge and resources, facilitating shared and inclusive education, and bridging industry and school training needs. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Moodle?

I find Moodle problematic due to its cost concerns. It's not free of charge, which is a significant barrier for my clients who are looking for very low-cost or free-to-use solutions. Moodle may be suitable for institutions requiring a lot of functions, but it's not simple or affordable enough for users who cannot afford it or are in the initial stages of needing such a platform. Additionally, I noticed that while Moodle has multi-language options, it isn't evident from the start, as everything is initially in English. This creates a barrier to accessibility for non-English speakers who might benefit from the platform. The AI features, though claimed to be present, do not offer a multilingual option similar to more intuitive language models, which could aid in explaining Moodle's usage in local languages. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Made Kanthicha of Moodle

Hi Rachel,

Thank you for sharing your feedback and highlighting Moodle’s strengths as a user-friendly and inclusive platform.

To help users get the most out of the platform, resources such as the Moodle Academy provide free, self-paced courses designed specifically for Educators and Admins (as well as Developers). These courses guide users through best practices for teaching, learning, and administering Moodle, making it easier to adapt the platform for diverse learning environments.

For organisations looking for a more straightforward setup, MoodleCloud offers an off-the-shelf, easy-to-use solution, ideal for smaller institutions or those with limited technical expertise. And for those requiring more tailored implementations, our global network of Moodle Certified Partners and Moodle Services can provide professional support with development, training, and ongoing assistance.

We hope this helps show that flexible options are available, whether you want a simple, out-of-the-box experience or a fully customised platform, so Moodle can continue to grow with your needs.

"Strengths and limitations of Moodle"
What do you like best about Moodle?

The platform is customizable, especially when you have the ability to code in HTML or CSS. Bulk user imports via CSV file, once you understand the logic of the columns to integrate. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Moodle?

I find the native activities of Moodle not very aesthetic, which leads me to favor the integration of external creations designed with Genially, Storyline, or H5P. Moreover, exporting the tracking and results of SCORM files is not always easy to use. The visual rendering depends a lot on the chosen theme: in our case, since the platform is managed by the Region, we do not have control over the theme or the code, which greatly limits customization. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Made Kanthicha of Moodle

"I've used it in the past 4 years for my Legal English programs"
What do you like best about Moodle?

What I like best about Moodle is that, once you get the hang of it, it can do almost everything you need. At first, it was a bit overwhelming, but I followed a tutorial and, after a few attempts, I managed to set up my courses and grading system. Now I use it every day.

Moodle is really flexible. I can create detailed courses with quizzes, forums, and assignments, and it helps me track student progress easily. Correcting essays takes me less than five minutes per submission once I have my system in place.

The fact that it’s open-source is a big plus. I’m not tied to a specific provider, and I can find plugins or solutions when I need them. Moodle does not provide customer support as such. However, there are community forums and a knowledge base (I use it in English and Spanish) that are helpful, even though sometimes it takes a bit of searching.

Moodle has become an essential part of my teaching, and I’m glad I kept going despite the initial learning curve. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Moodle?

What I dislike about Moodle is that it wasn’t easy to set up at first. It took me a few attempts to integrate it into my own domain, and that part was frustrating. I’m not super tech-savvy, so it was a relief when it finally worked.

The biggest downside is the learning curve. The interface can feel cluttered and a bit old-fashioned, and there are so many features that it’s easy to get lost. I wish Moodle had a simpler, beginner-friendly mode or clearer guidance. Without proper training, it’s easy to miss important tools or use them incorrectly. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Good resource for course management"
What do you like best about Moodle?

I use Moodle every semester for my courses! I love that I can import previous courses, so I'm not starting from scratch every year. I appreciate the ability to create online quizzes somewhat quickly. It's a relatively easy system to use. It's a great tool that integrates every aspect of my courses I can . Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Moodle?

Administering quizzes can be a little clunky at times. I wish it was easier to change assignment dates (like drag them in a calendar) - or easier to find features like the student overrides. Another minor annoyance: In the latest update, the shortcut key for shifting to the next cell in Gradebook (Tab key) shifts to the next assignment entry for a particular student, rather than the next student for a particular assignment. It's rare that I'm grading all assignments for one student in a sitting - rather I'm usually entering grades for one assignment for all students. I haven't found anyway to change this feature in the documentation. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
