## About MapTiler
MapTiler is a professional-grade geospatial platform and cloud ecosystem engineered for the creation, hosting, and deployment of sophisticated digital maps. It is the preferred solution for organizations requiring granular customization, rigorous data privacy, and robust offline functionality. Leveraging high-fidelity OpenStreetMap data, MapTiler provides the foundational infrastructure necessary to power interactive mapping experiences across web, mobile, and specialized GIS environments. MapTiler makes maps easy to help everyone understand the world better. Core Products and Services: MapTiler isn't just one tool; it’s an ecosystem of products designed for different stages of the mapping process: MapTiler Cloud: A hosting platform that provides ready-to-use map styles (Streets, Satellite, Outdoor) via APIs and SDKs. MapTiler Engine: A desktop application that converts your own data - such as drone imagery, scanned paper maps, or large TIFF files—into "map tiles" that can be easily loaded on the web. MapTiler On-Prem: self-hosting solution that allows you to run maps on your own hardware. This is essential for secure environments or apps that need to work entirely offline. MapTiler SDK: A JavaScript library (based on MapLibre) that developers use to add interactive features, markers, and 3D terrain to their web applications. Why People Use It: Privacy & Security: Unlike other mapping providers, MapTiler does not collect any hidden information about people who interact with the maps. No Telemetry, saved activity, or any other data, other than voluntarily sharing their location. In addition, MapTiler supports fully on-premises hosting. This means your data (and your users' location data) never has to leave your own servers. Customization: You can edit every detail of the map’s appearance - changing colors, hiding labels, or adding your own branding - using the Map Designer tool. Scalable Financial Predictability: MapTiler offers a sustainable pricing structure that eliminates the 'success tax' common in pay-per-load models, making it the preferred choice for high-traffic applications that require cost certainty. Open Source Roots: MapTiler is a major contributor to the OpenMapTiles project, which defines how map data is structured for modern vector styling. They also helped found and continue to contribute to MapLibre, and other components of the modern OpenSource Geospatial stack.

## MapTiler Reviews
 ### 1. Great maps for editorial storytelling

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Václav K. | Publisher, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 27, 2026

**What do you like best about MapTiler?**

What we like most is the balance of visual quality and flexibility. MapTiler offers a good range of predefined styles that already cover most of our editorial needs, and when we need something more specific, the cloud interface makes it easy to adjust the map styling to match our visual direction. The maps look clean and professional, which fits well with an architecture and design-oriented publication, and they help readers quickly understand routes, cities, and places in context.

**What do you dislike about MapTiler?**

Honestly, nothing significant comes to mind. In the past, documentation was the only thing we sometimes struggled with, but that has clearly improved — the current documentation is very helpful and easy to follow.

**What problems is MapTiler solving and how is that benefiting you?**

MapTiler helps us add clear geographical context and stronger storytelling to our travel and architecture articles. Instead of describing routes, cities, and places only in text, we can show them directly in the story. This makes our content more useful, easier to follow, and more engaging for readers.

 ### 2. MapTiler solves all our needs in terms of processing weather forecasts

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ragnar Heiðar . | GIS Coordinator, Government Administration, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 24, 2026

**What do you like best about MapTiler?**

We at the Icelandic Met Office (IMO) use MapTiler products as the main data pipeline and visualization of spatial data for our new website. This site is now in public beta (gottvedur.is). IMO monitors, researches and gives out warnings for all natural hazards in Iceland. This means lots of near-realtime datastreams. We have been very pleased with all of the products we use. This includes MapTiler Cloud, Server, Engine and Weather SDK for maps.

- Very good support
- Highly customizable maps
- High level of automation with APIs

**What do you dislike about MapTiler?**

We’ve had no issues with MapTiler. The support has been outstanding. The complexity of our own setup is usually what breaks things.

**What problems is MapTiler solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Processing spatial datasets fast and getting them tProcessing spatial datasets fast and getting them to our clients. For weather forecasts we need to process, deliver and visualize a high resolution forecast every 3 hours. And a long-term forecast every 6 hours. MapTiler had all the solutions available for us to make this happen.o our clients

 ### 3. Excellent Map Quality, Fair Pricing, and Responsive Support with MapTiler

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Roman P. | Entwicklungsleiter, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 23, 2026

**What do you like best about MapTiler?**

We currently use two Map Tiler products:
- MapTiler API (Tiles API) on a monthly billing plan
- MapTiler Engine for map tiling (raster tiles) of our own map data

Both products have met our requirements very well for years, at a fair price!
The map quality and service availability are excellent.
It was very important to us to have the option of securely limiting overuse (Tiles API) to prevent uncontrollable cost overruns.
The ability to use an unlimited number of our own API keys for managing and analysing data queries is also very helpful.
All products and services are simple, fast and, for the most part, intuitive to use.
Customer support has always been easily accessible and has provided high-quality responses.

**What do you dislike about MapTiler?**

MapTiler Engine performs very well when rendering raster imagery. However, when rendering vector data, we quickly encountered various limitations.
In some cases, certain source formats are not well supported, or the errors that occur during rendering are not clear to the user.
More transparency could be achieved here with more detailed documentation and, where necessary, more comprehensive tutorials.

In some cases, we would like to see satellite imagery with even higher resolution, particularly in rural areas, although this would likely need to be reflected in a specific pricing model. It would be nice to have the option to use it.

**What problems is MapTiler solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Use of background maps in custom mapping solutions.
Professional creation of raster tiles.

 ### 4. Lightweigt, fast, consistent

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Thanasis t. | Contributor, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 25, 2026

**What do you like best about MapTiler?**

A great service. Performance is excellent. I use the hillshade layer, which is very lightweight, making the user experience smooth and fast. Integration was seamless, and the support was very helpful. The instructions were clear and easy to follow, even for someone without extensive development experience. The pricing is very reasonable for the quality of the service.

**What do you dislike about MapTiler?**

Nothing so far. Everything works smoothly!

**What problems is MapTiler solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I’m using the hillshade layer in FireWatch, my news web app for tracking forest fires. Since the app includes multiple maps and loads several datasets, I needed a lightweight, fast service. Understanding the terrain where a fire breaks out is extremely important for users, and MapTiler makes that possible without sacrificing performance. The layer is clear, smooth, and easy to integrate, while maintaining a fast, reliable user experience.

 ### 5. Low-Footprint, Responsive Self-Hosted MapTiler on Raspberry Pi

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Bjorn M. | Director, System Tools Engineering, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 04, 2026

**What do you like best about MapTiler?**

I tested the docker solution to see if I could run it as a complementary packages to Kiwix for places where the internet regularly fails, and here it shows great promise as a self-hosted server. The memory footprint is reasonably low and it ran responsively on a raspberry pi-4 with 8 Gb ram. All in all nicely done!

**What do you dislike about MapTiler?**

There is nothing that I dislike specifically. MapTiler is a map server. How you use it is up to you. The most common use case is of course to add information that is static. However I think that MapTiler is under-rated as a mobile offline capable map solution, where map-deltas can be used to constrain the memory used for maps and synchronized with rclone. Say I normally live in London, but now want to go to Amsterdam. My delta should now be Amsterdam airport where I land, then rapid rclone caching based on my planned route. MapTiler could easily handle this use case as well. /DeGoogle.

**What problems is MapTiler solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I need maps that are robust to disruption of the internet. MapTiler provides that.

 ### 6. Excellent Mapping Platform with Genuine Customer Support

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Maximilian S. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 19, 2026

**What do you like best about MapTiler?**

The map quality is very high quality. Especially their satellite one. Also the visual map editor in the MapTiler dashboard is very handy and easy to use, you can specify your map to your needs and get a link that you can use in your application directly. The pricing model is transparent and the sales team do their best to get you a good solution. The team was responding fast and all questions got answered.

**What do you dislike about MapTiler?**

Any issues and questions got solved by writing the team, which was very helpful!

**What problems is MapTiler solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We needed a polished, customizable mapping layer for our AI-powered architecture visualization platform. Our users are architects, so the maps need to actually look good, not like a generic Google Maps embed. MapTiler gives us that visual quality out of the box with enough customization to match our product's design language. Also the ability for exports was why we chose MapTiler. Having a mapping provider with straightforward pricing and a team that's willing to have real conversations about usage makes a big difference when you're a startup trying to plan ahead.

 ### 7. World-Class Usability and Visual Design from MapTiler

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Stanislav P. | Head of Eye-tracking Laboratory, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 22, 2026

**What do you like best about MapTiler?**

MapTiler is a great company doing world-class stuff. We are going to their Brno office for an excursion with students of Geoinformatics. I really appreciate the effort they always put into the excursion and also into their products that they develop and present to the students. The best thing from my point of view is the effort given to the usability of the products and to the visual part of their products.

**What do you dislike about MapTiler?**

I do not know about anything what I will dislike.

**What problems is MapTiler solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are going there for the excursion with students, but we also use MapTiler for tiling of historical maps and plans for the purpose of project we are working on

 ### 8. Spectacular Maps and Exceptional Performance with MapTiler

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Martí P. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 12, 2026

**What do you like best about MapTiler?**

I am very happy with the base maps from MapTiler, they have a wide range, from very simple maps (which allow highlighting information on the map) to more detailed ones. This variety is exactly what we needed. Additionally, the performance is excellent, which enhances the experience when viewing information. It has always worked very well for us and is easy to configure.

**What do you dislike about MapTiler?**

Perhaps the translations into Spanish can be improved

**What problems is MapTiler solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We have used MapTiler for background layers in cartographic viewers such as in the Global Atlas of Environmental Justice (EJ Atlas), improving the visual appearance and with different options.

 ### 9. Great Map Styles for Clear Data Visualisation

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** tony s. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 23, 2026

**What do you like best about MapTiler?**

The map styles, especially the one for data visualisation… I think it’s the best you can get on the market. Our data - networks of nodes and links are perfectly readable on it.

**What do you dislike about MapTiler?**

It would be great having more data layers available, real-time ones, like weather.

**What problems is MapTiler solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use MapTiler as a source of vector map tiles for our product. Our users benefit a lot from the quick configuration and the option for on-premise installations, which gives them a much smoother, more polished experience when doing geospatial network analysis.

 ### 10. Nearly Flawless Tailored Maps with Flexible, Responsive Support

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Airlines/Aviation | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 18, 2026

**What do you like best about MapTiler?**

MapTiler delivers a nearly flawless product that does exactly what I expect. What really sets MapTiler apart from its competitors, though, is the customer support and the flexibility they show in fulfilling our special requests.

**What do you dislike about MapTiler?**

The map customization tool is somewhat difficult to use. There’s also a lack of support for Flutter with their native SDK. I believe they’re working on both of these issues, so I expect things will improve soon.

**What problems is MapTiler solving and how is that benefiting you?**

MapTiler delivers a solution for creating a tailored map that meets the specific needs of hot air balloon pilots.

 ### 11. Economic and Reliable Mapping Solution

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Thibault L. | User Experience Design Specialist, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 17, 2024

**What do you like best about MapTiler?**

As an experienced developer primarily using MapLibre for its flexibility, I found MapTiler Cloud to offer an intuitive interface and a good variety of map styles, with strong API support.

**What do you dislike about MapTiler?**

For more advanced customization needs (for exemple Globe Projection) , I encountered limitations, especially when it came to granular visual control.

**What problems is MapTiler solving and how is that benefiting you?**

MapTiler Cloud help me to solve the challenge of delivering high-performance, custom maps at a reasonable price.
It allows me to deploy scalable map solutions without needing to invest in expensive infrastructure or licenses.
The fast rendering of maps, even with large datasets, has been a major benefit, ensuring that performance isn't compromised.

 ### 12. review for Maptiler cloud

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Altai B. | Content Creative, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 17, 2022

**What do you like best about MapTiler?**

Easy to customize any maps in different styles such as Basic, Openstreetmap, toner, topo, topographique, voyager etc. You can cut any map by its countries and customize it again based on your own preference. Therefore it's safe to use to platform and you can try it as a free of 30 days.

**What do you dislike about MapTiler?**

Website tools are quite limited to build its own map. Otherwise seems great platform for mapping. Another thing is its price is quite high comparing to the alternative platforms

**What problems is MapTiler solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Creating vector maps generates static maps, and offers wms and wmts services. Gives me a bunch of selection on the customization on editing the maps. Creating visuals with the help of the platform
