"Powerful Features, Strong Value, with Room for Improvement"
4.5/5
What do you like best about MapTiler?

What we appreciate most about MapTiler is that it provides a complete and flexible mapping platform at a fair price point. We use it as the central mapping component of our mobility platform, covering public transport, bike sharing, scooter sharing and car sharing, across both native mobile applications (via MapLibre Native) and web applications (via MapTiler SDK JS). These integrations are delivered by multiple service providers, so the ability to manage multiple API keys is particularly valuable. We also make regular use of additional services such as the Geocoding API. Having a single platform for these different use cases has significantly simplified our workflows and reduced integration effort.

A particularly valuable feature for us is the combination of maps, tilesets and datasets within one environment. Most of our data updates are fully automated through the Upload API and scheduled jobs from multiple data providers. This has greatly reduced manual work while improving traceability through separate credentials and detailed change history.

From a UI/UX perspective, the map editor is intuitive and has improved considerably over the years. At the same time, it still allows advanced customisation through the MapLibre Style Specification when more complex styling is required.

We have also been pleasantly surprised by features such as 30-day recovery for maps, datasets and tilesets, as well as the ability to track who made specific changes. These capabilities provide an additional level of operational safety that is particularly important for customer-facing mobility services.

In terms of performance and ROI, the platform has proven reliable for our production workloads over several years. The breadth of functionality, continuous innovation and API-driven automation provide a solid return on investment.

Finally, while we have occasionally encountered technical issues, we value the fact that MapTiler actively develops the platform, takes customer feedback seriously and continues to improve the product. The support experience has not always been perfect, but we have consistently found MapTiler to be responsive, collaborative and willing to work towards a constructive solution when problems arise. What do you dislike about MapTiler?

What we like least about MapTiler is that the platform evolves at a very rapid pace and new functionality is often introduced directly into the production environment. While this allows users to benefit from improvements more quickly, it can occasionally result in changing workflows, unexpected behaviour, or regressions in areas that were previously working well.

Over the years, we have encountered a number of issues affecting production usage, including problems within the map editor, inconsistencies between different editing views, dataset and tileset upload issues, and delays in the propagation of changes. In most cases, these issues were eventually resolved, but they sometimes increased operational effort and slowed down day-to-day work.

We would also welcome more detailed error reporting. When problems occur, the error messages available in the MapTiler administration interface are often quite limited, which can make troubleshooting more difficult and time-consuming.

Another area for improvement is permissions and access management. We currently use a five-seat team account, but the current role model is very basic, with only Owner, Editor and Viewer roles available. The Viewer role has little practical value, while Editors cannot be restricted to specific maps, datasets or resources. The same applies to API credentials, where additional restriction and security options would be beneficial.

Within the map editor itself, the user experience is generally good, but some workflows could be streamlined further. Moving changes from test maps to production maps often involves manually copying and reusing layers, and a more structured promotion process would be highly appreciated. In addition, while the editor is very accessible for less experienced users, advanced users would benefit from features that provide deeper support for the MapLibre Style Specification. An integrated AI assistant for styling, validation and troubleshooting would also be a valuable addition.

Finally, although support has always been professional and constructive, we occasionally found that multiple rounds of communication were required before reaching a solution. Faster diagnosis of technical issues and more detailed troubleshooting information would further improve the overall experience.

Overall, most of our criticism relates to operational efficiency, governance and platform stability rather than core functionality. The underlying platform is powerful and capable, but additional focus on error diagnostics, permissions, release management and advanced-user workflows would make it even stronger. "Excellent SDK and Editor: Accessible MapLibre, Solid Performance, Responsive Support"
4.5/5
What do you like best about MapTiler?

The maptiler-sdk-js package is excellent. It makes the underlying MapLibre features far more accessible and turns complex setup logic into simple one-liners, which cuts down on boilerplate.

Pricing feels reasonable, and it’s straightforward to choose a plan that matches our real requirements without feeling like we’re paying for features we don’t need.

Support is quick and knowledgeable, even when the questions are very specific and technical. We’ve been using MapTiler for several years, and it’s been refreshing to see our feedback actually reflected in the product, which is rare.

Map performance has been consistently solid. On top of that, the intuitive map editor makes it easy to hand off map design to non-technical team members, freeing up engineering time. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about MapTiler?

Since the SDK is built on MapLibre, some things can't be changed quickly by MapTiler alone. A fix would either have to go through the open-source project or require MapTiler to reimplement the feature on their side. They are actively involved in MapLibre development, which helps, but the open-source process means quick adjustments aren't always possible. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Beautiful, High-Detail MapTiler Styles Worldwide"
5/5
What do you like best about MapTiler?

I especially like MapTiler’s map styles. They are visually appealing, clean, and well-designed, and the maps provide a consistently high level of detail worldwide. I really like the pay-as-you-go monthly plan. It offers excellent value and is especially well suited to startups, as costs can scale gradually with actual usage. What do you dislike about MapTiler?

The only issue I have noticed is that map loading can be slightly slow in mainland China. Other than that, everything has been excellent. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Great maps for editorial storytelling"
5/5
What do you like best about MapTiler?

What we like most is the balance of visual quality and flexibility. MapTiler offers a good range of predefined styles that already cover most of our editorial needs, and when we need something more specific, the cloud interface makes it easy to adjust the map styling to match our visual direction. The maps look clean and professional, which fits well with an architecture and design-oriented publication, and they help readers quickly understand routes, cities, and places in context. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about MapTiler?

Honestly, nothing significant comes to mind. In the past, documentation was the only thing we sometimes struggled with, but that has clearly improved — the current documentation is very helpful and easy to follow. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Revolutionizing Terrain and Trip Planning"
5/5
What do you like best about MapTiler?

I find MapTiler to be of very good quality and quite revolutionary for terrain and trip planning. I really like the customer service; they respond quickly and were extremely helpful in helping me figure out the best use case and implementation. The 3D map feature is particularly valuable for the trip-planning software i have built. The initial setup was also very easy. I don’t have any complaints about using it. I have to give special credit to Radek Duba, whose customer support was outstanding - Professional, responsive, and a pleasure throughout. Higly recommended. "MapTiler solves all our needs in terms of processing weather forecasts"
5/5
What do you like best about MapTiler?

We at the Icelandic Met Office (IMO) use MapTiler products as the main data pipeline and visualization of spatial data for our new website. This site is now in public beta (gottvedur.is). IMO monitors, researches and gives out warnings for all natural hazards in Iceland. This means lots of near-realtime datastreams. We have been very pleased with all of the products we use. This includes MapTiler Cloud, Server, Engine and Weather SDK for maps.

- Very good support

- Highly customizable maps

- High level of automation with APIs Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about MapTiler?

We’ve had no issues with MapTiler. The support has been outstanding. The complexity of our own setup is usually what breaks things. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Excellent Map Quality, Fair Pricing, and Responsive Support with MapTiler"
5/5
What do you like best about MapTiler?

We currently use two Map Tiler products:

- MapTiler API (Tiles API) on a monthly billing plan

- MapTiler Engine for map tiling (raster tiles) of our own map data

Both products have met our requirements very well for years, at a fair price!

The map quality and service availability are excellent.

It was very important to us to have the option of securely limiting overuse (Tiles API) to prevent uncontrollable cost overruns.

The ability to use an unlimited number of our own API keys for managing and analysing data queries is also very helpful.

All products and services are simple, fast and, for the most part, intuitive to use.

Customer support has always been easily accessible and has provided high-quality responses. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about MapTiler?

MapTiler Engine performs very well when rendering raster imagery. However, when rendering vector data, we quickly encountered various limitations.

In some cases, certain source formats are not well supported, or the errors that occur during rendering are not clear to the user.

More transparency could be achieved here with more detailed documentation and, where necessary, more comprehensive tutorials.

In some cases, we would like to see satellite imagery with even higher resolution, particularly in rural areas, although this would likely need to be reflected in a specific pricing model. It would be nice to have the option to use it. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
