## LibreOffice Calc Reviews
  ### 1. LibreOffice Calc Totally Beats Excel When It Comes to CSV Files

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Paul B. | Customer Experience Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 06, 2025

**What do you like best about LibreOffice Calc?**

Having used Excel for many years, I was surprised by how much I enjoy working with LibreOffice Calc. When it comes to handling CSV files, Calc has become my preferred tool. Opening a CSV in Calc is straightforward—it immediately presents clear options so I can select the correct settings, and the data always appears properly formatted. There are no strange glitches or unnecessary delays, just clean data ready for use. Since I work with dozens of CSV files every day, this efficiency really saves me time. I appreciate how simple and stress-free the whole process is.

**What do you dislike about LibreOffice Calc?**

I still rely on Excel for most of my regular spreadsheet tasks, mainly out of habit and because I'm most comfortable with its advanced features and handling of complex formulas. However, when it comes to working with CSV files, I find that LibreOffice Calc handles them more effectively.

**What problems is LibreOffice Calc solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Excel used to give me constant headaches whenever I imported CSV files. It would often mishandle characters, ruin formatting, or do something unpredictable nearly every time. With LibreOffice Calc, I no longer face these issues. It handles CSV imports correctly from the start, sparing me the hassle of fixing errors afterward. Now, I depend on it whenever I work with CSV files, and since I deal with dozens each day, it truly saves me a lot of time.

  ### 2. Get most of the features of Excel without paying anything. Faster than Google Sheets.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Peter John P. | Executive Assistant to Chief Operations Officer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 11, 2023

**What do you like best about LibreOffice Calc?**

Out of all the LibreOffice tools, I use Calc the most as i find it more to my liking compared to GoogleSheets (Which we use for collaborative work). I still find offline apps to be more reliable and snappy compared to webapps like GSuite. Libre Calc still covers all the bases for me, mostly databases related work.. did I mention it's Free?? You can be in the middle of nowhere with no laptop in tow, happen to borrow someone else laptop to beat a deadline only to find they dont have excel, and you just dont like webapps... Just go download LibreOffice Calc...and you're set

**What do you dislike about LibreOffice Calc?**

Charting and graphing is still better on Excel, but that is to be expected since it's from a Tech Giant like Microsoft.

**What problems is LibreOffice Calc solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Best free alternative to MS Excel. Cost-savings for smaller business that need to equipped their staff with spreadsheet app but can't afford Excel Licenses.

  ### 3. I don't have Excel installed, but I do have LibreOffice Calc, because it does exectly what I need!

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Philip H. | Consultant, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 20, 2020

**What do you like best about LibreOffice Calc?**

* I can import Excel spreadsheets before some of my colleagues can read them, because LibreOffice Calc is updated quickly and automatically after every MS Office file format update.
* Excel may be impacted by viruses in its scripts, but LibreOffice Calc does not use the same script language, so the viruses are not a danger.
* It is community supported, and I have influenced that community to allow CSV files named *.XLS to be imported like Excel spreadsheets.

**What do you dislike about LibreOffice Calc?**

* Excel VBA is not removed, but just not used, so viruses could be passed on the Excel users without the knowledge of LibreOffice Calc users.
* There are a few Excel functions that don't yet exist for LibreOffice Calc users, but not many.

**What problems is LibreOffice Calc solving and how is that benefiting you?**

* All of my company's spreadsheets are processed using LibreOffice Calc.
* LibreOffice Calc is cheaper and updated more frequently than Excel.

  ### 4. Productivity

**Reviewed by:** Ziyaad v. | t, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 05, 2023

**What do you like best about LibreOffice Calc?**

It is much less complicated then excel and it is free software.

**What do you dislike about LibreOffice Calc?**

There is nothing to dislike as it is comparable with excel formats

**What problems is LibreOffice Calc solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Creating cost sheets

  ### 5. Its kind off a good alternate to microsoft excel for your daily spreadsheet needs

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Dhairya G. | Co-Founder, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 29, 2022

**What do you like best about LibreOffice Calc?**

The best thing is that on an operating system like Linux, using Microsoft excel is a mess. So this becomes one of the best alternative option which provides you with most of the features that you'll
 probably need.

**What do you dislike about LibreOffice Calc?**

The overall software holds up most of the features and simplicity but than lacks in Ui/Ux,the user-interface is quite unattractive. You might feel bored while using the software but its kind of someone's personal preference.

**What problems is LibreOffice Calc solving and how is that benefiting you?**

LibreOffice calc is a spreadsheet software which helps me to manage the data and records and adds on to my daily decision-making regarding my work, it also helps me out to analyze the data efficiently and effectively using options like charts and formulaes.

  ### 6. LibreOffice Calc helps a lot!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Marco A. | Assistente da Qualidade, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 21, 2022

**What do you like best about LibreOffice Calc?**

LibreOffice Calc is intuitive, easy to use, and integrated into the productivity links of my work. I like LibreOffice Calc because it is the tool that helps me organize the tags of my services.

**What do you dislike about LibreOffice Calc?**

It doesn't have some features that Excel does, but nothing that is a problem. It's a great daily help in my company to have this program. Sometimes it doesn't perform a function that I need.

**What problems is LibreOffice Calc solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It is helping me calculate my productivity, organize the tags of my services, and in it, we create the monitor manual to guide both the old and new collaborators.

  ### 7. Familiar Functions, Great Low Price(FREE!)

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Chris W. | Owner, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 24, 2022

**What do you like best about LibreOffice Calc?**

It has nearly all the functions Excel has and is very well documented. Whenever I run into something I'm not sure how to do, a quick search on the internet usually yields the answer I need.

**What do you dislike about LibreOffice Calc?**

The functions are a little tricky. Seems like Excel and Google Sheets are a little more user friendly as far as functions go, but it's bearable.

**Recommendations to others considering LibreOffice Calc:**

Test out your most common workflow to see if it can be completely ported to Calc.

**What problems is LibreOffice Calc solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Calc for all my spreadsheet needs. I have a few Google Sheets, but only because they have App Scripts that only work with that platform.

  ### 8. LibreOffice Calc is sensational!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Maria R. | Assistente de CX, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 05, 2022

**What do you like best about LibreOffice Calc?**

LibreOffice Calc is very easy to use, it is intuitive and helps me a lot to achieve my productivity goals at work, considering that I always use it for consultations.

**What do you dislike about LibreOffice Calc?**

LibreOffice Calc does not have certain features that Excel has, but there is no problem at all, as these features are not missed in my daily routine.

**What problems is LibreOffice Calc solving and how is that benefiting you?**

With LibreOffice Calc, in addition to being able to organize and separate different demands, I can control my productivity and consult the numerous tasks to provide excellent service.

  ### 9. Free Ubuntu version that gets the job done

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Brock H. | software test & integration engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 12, 2022

**What do you like best about LibreOffice Calc?**

The software is free and works well on Ubuntu, and is usually able to open Excel documents without too many issues. However, for generating and creating your own Excel like worksheets it lacks many of the necessary features needed to be a complete replacement.

**What do you dislike about LibreOffice Calc?**

The software is clunky in both its UI and what it is capable of doing. I am unsure if it is due to copyright that it has to perform such roundabout methods to achieve the same thing, but the functionality and ease of use are miles worse than Excel or even Google Sheets.

**Recommendations to others considering LibreOffice Calc:**

Use excel if you can, but for a free Ubuntu version you can make do and use it to read sent xmls.

**What problems is LibreOffice Calc solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Ubuntu users can easily open Excel documents that are generated by the customer and which we need to use for looking at CSV files generated on the project. However, Excel is usually the software of choice for most if you have windows or even a MAC, which the customer does.

  ### 10. An excellent free excel-type table.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Fabian C. | Productor Músical y AudioVisual, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 18, 2021

**What do you like best about LibreOffice Calc?**

All the functionalities are very useful and the program works flawlessly, at least on my Windows system. I have to say that what I like the most is that this is a free-to-use tool, but it is not bad for that. The function system works in a similar way to Excel. And I have been able to integrate tables that I have made in other Programs without any problem including Google Docs.

**What do you dislike about LibreOffice Calc?**

Some functions of the program are a bit hidden and sometimes it is difficult for me to find them. Also, I think the program's interface is a bit outdated. Also, I think a function that syncs content to the cloud would be great.

**Recommendations to others considering LibreOffice Calc:**

If you want a simple tool to help you manage content locally, this is an excellent tool. If, on the other hand, you want to share the data with your work team, you should look for another alternative that allows you to work in the cloud.

**What problems is LibreOffice Calc solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Although not all the information is managed in this system, I have organized my itinerary and the orders of my work team in a more efficient way. But for other functions that require diligence, I have used another platform that works directly in the cloud.

  ### 11. LibreOffice Calc, the app formerly known as OpenOffice Calc

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jason D. | Vice President of Information Technology, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 08, 2021

**What do you like best about LibreOffice Calc?**

LibreOffice Calc is the best and perhaps only strong reason to use LibreOffice. I have used LibreOffice and home and work for the last 15 years. Calc has seen me torture it with gobs of data time and time again. I have gotten it to crash occasionally, but with what I was doing to it, I knew it was a possibility. I routinely use Calc for data imports to our ERP system, Odoo. It handles running multiple VLOOKUP queries per line over thousands of rows without a problem.

**What do you dislike about LibreOffice Calc?**

Every now and then, when you torture the program, it will crash. My problems with the LibreOffice suite do not come from Calc, but rather from Writer, which infuriates me. I have come to see Calc as a trusted resource.

**Recommendations to others considering LibreOffice Calc:**

There are more options these dase for spreadsheets, including Google Sheets. If you need to work on a project, you might want to go for a cloud-based alternative, even if it isn't as mature, like Google Sheets. If you need something more traditional, then LibreOffice Calc is for you.

**What problems is LibreOffice Calc solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We don't have to pay for MS Office. Although sometimes I wonder if we should migrate from Google Workspace (GSuite) to Office365, if only for Office and the extra storage.

  ### 12. Free to Download, Easy to Use Spreadsheet Tool

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Joseph D. | L, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 10, 2021

**What do you like best about LibreOffice Calc?**

I enjoy the versatility of LibreOffice Calc. I've used it to create presentable QA reviews, record and calculate stats for marketing and sales purposes, and organize lists of names and data.

**What do you dislike about LibreOffice Calc?**

While creating custom formulae is possible, LibreOffice Calc does not make it very easy. For example, I could not set up alternating row colors without much trial and error.

**What problems is LibreOffice Calc solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I need a place to organize and store data. LibreOffice Calc fulfills that purpose while being relatively user-friendly. It also helps me present data to my supervisors in a plain way with colors and chards so that I don't need to explain every detail.

  ### 13. Nice replacement for the Spreadsheet, faster than excel for heavy sheets and easy to use

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** ankur s. | Operations Manager, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 23, 2021

**What do you like best about LibreOffice Calc?**

These are the major points that I liked :
1. Easy to use - almost all the formula that works on other worksheets/spreadsheets/excels work on this.
2. Data movement - Opening any supported file which is not created on this software, even in that case, the result is with minimum error in term of numbers.
3. Less time-consuming and fast - Even heavy sheets load easily (Multiple sheets)

**What do you dislike about LibreOffice Calc?**

The things that I dislike :
1. The UI is quite old as it doesn't come with any technical support so you cannot expect any upcoming new feature.
2, Handling a lot of data in a single sheet is very tough in the Libre office (not more than 150 pages).
3. Size of each file is heavy as built on Java.

**What problems is LibreOffice Calc solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Creating complex excels, reports, datasheets, merging and managing data to make out data-based decisions for my product.

  ### 14. Great free spreadsheet program for any computer user.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Svitlana S. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 23, 2020

**What do you like best about LibreOffice Calc?**

I can save my work in any convenient format for different operation systems. Easy to learn for any computer user level.

**What do you dislike about LibreOffice Calc?**

I have nothing to mention for now - everything works perfect for me.

**Recommendations to others considering LibreOffice Calc:**

I definitely recommend to try LibreOffice Calc for any user or company. It is easy to learn, pleasure to use and you will get a lot of benefits from using it.

**What problems is LibreOffice Calc solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use it for my programming shortcuts, for accounting purposes, for Real Estate data etc. Benefits - data is more organized and I can make all calculations in one place. Also it is free for any user and I can also open and save files in Microsoft Excel format for sending to people using Microsoft products. Also it is easy to export my files to Portable Document Format (.pdf) to make it static.

  ### 15. The positives for using LibreOffice Ca9lc

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Darron M. | Associate Producer - Europe, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 02, 2020

**What do you like best about LibreOffice Calc?**

The compatibility with MS Excel, such as setup and sharing.

**What do you dislike about LibreOffice Calc?**

The look but it can be tweaked. The whole of LibreOffice looks like MS Office 95.

**Recommendations to others considering LibreOffice Calc:**

As it is so much like MS Office, any LibreOffice product can be picked up and used if you've used MS Office before. They are compatible too so it's possible to save and open in either software.

**What problems is LibreOffice Calc solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The problems are just the same as in any spreadsheet. I can share a file as another software file, such as MS Excel and back.

  ### 16. I am using LibreOffice Calc From last few year & its really great

  ### 17. Good free product for developing spreadsheets

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Stefano R. | Giornalista, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 27, 2019

**What do you like best about LibreOffice Calc?**

It is a free program that offers the ability to develop spreadsheets, easily format the style of tables, create charts... It has nothing to envy compared to more popular and expensive software.

**What do you dislike about LibreOffice Calc?**

Files created with the more widespread Microsoft Excel are unfortunately incompatible with LibreOffice Calc, making it difficult to exchange data with other users.

**Recommendations to others considering LibreOffice Calc:**

Great for those who want to practice with spreadsheets without having to spend money on licensed products. It's a good product, it's free, it's open source... If you don't have specific needs that only other software can meet, why not consider installing it?

**What problems is LibreOffice Calc solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I saved on buying the license without giving up a program with good performance. I started using this software to practice with spreadsheets.

  ### 18. Free & Efficient w/ some learning curve

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jay W. | Owner, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 22, 2019

**What do you like best about LibreOffice Calc?**

I love how its free and works cross-platform. Little annoying as when you export, it must be in Excel format or else others without Libreoffice cannot view it.

**What do you dislike about LibreOffice Calc?**

Saves as libre office file by default. I believe you can change it but those who are less tech savvy may not consider that.

**Recommendations to others considering LibreOffice Calc:**

I recommend trying to get it more like Excel. The layouts and positioning of items are a bit different and can be confusing for people transitioning from Excel. I know there are legal items behind that but keeping things like hotkeys are important.

**What problems is LibreOffice Calc solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Having a freeware version of office which eliminates cost and overhead. It is great for small businesses like mines.

  ### 19. Good editor if you don't have a Windows OS

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Marco D. | Customers support engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 04, 2019

**What do you like best about LibreOffice Calc?**

It fully support XLS and XLSx sheets from popular commercial software without losing of formatting, sizes and paddings.
You can also import and adapt your macro or Visual Basic applications to run advanced scripts on your files just like in previously mentioned software with the only different that LibreOffice Calc is free and Open Source and can be installed on Windows, Linux and macOS

**What do you dislike about LibreOffice Calc?**

legacy GUI make LibreOffice suite (and even Calc) looks like a 2003 Calculator installed on Windows XP, I installed a minimal theme as a workaround of this "problem".

**What problems is LibreOffice Calc solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Download and Install an off-line crossplatform spreadsheet editor that can be used even on old Linux laptop used to produces invoices by some colleagues of Administration

  ### 20. Free and multi-platform alternative to the more renowned Microsoft sibling

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Francesca S. | Junior Developer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 07, 2019

**What do you like best about LibreOffice Calc?**

In every way similar to its main antagonist, it has two very important things on its side:
1. it is multi-platform
2. it is completely portable and can be run without being installed (bring with you)
The scripting languages that can be used do not include the trivial VBScript, but much more current stuff (Python and JavaScript, for example).

**What do you dislike about LibreOffice Calc?**

On the other hand, despite having many arrows in its quiver, it always encounters the long-standing issue of format incompatibility with Microsoft's standard, which often leads to difficulties in exchanging files with clients, and ultimately, the only possible alternative is chosen.

**Recommendations to others considering LibreOffice Calc:**

If you don't have the expectation of being able to exchange files with anyone, this is definitely the right tool.
However, if you need to do so, you could always convince the other party to use the same tool as you... it's free, what does it cost them? You'll see that they will convert.

**What problems is LibreOffice Calc solving and how is that benefiting you?**

With this product, you can work really well and it doesn't show any weaknesses. You can keep the accounting or use Pivot to group information on staff attendance in the company very easily.

  ### 21. Good quality software

**Reviewed by:** Jose R. | None, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 20, 2020

**What do you like best about LibreOffice Calc?**

It is a very intuitive program and doesn't have anything to envy from other programs

**What do you dislike about LibreOffice Calc?**

The interface is kind of old or at least it seems so

**What problems is LibreOffice Calc solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have an easy way to keep track of my money spending and things like that

  ### 22. Validate alternative to Excel

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Saverio F. | Administration, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 11, 2019

**What do you like best about LibreOffice Calc?**

One of the best spreadsheets around. It boasts ease of use comparable to that of the more renowned Microsoft product, a lightweight installation/execution that allows it to run quite well even on older computers (an important factor for those focused on economy), and it is translated into many languages.

**What do you dislike about LibreOffice Calc?**

If you work with the Open XML format, there are no problems, not even in data exchange. If, alas, you try to use Microsoft's standard format, compatibility issues continue to exist.

**Recommendations to others considering LibreOffice Calc:**

Working solely in its original format (OpenXML) it has no rivals.

**What problems is LibreOffice Calc solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It represents a valid alternative (and at no cost) to one of the most renowned programs in the field, without being outshone. By taking care not to use standards other than OpenXML, it might have no equal.

  ### 23. Libre Office Calc

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Irv N. | Administration, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Education Management | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 17, 2019

**What do you like best about LibreOffice Calc?**

It comes by default with Ubuntu OS. It functions similar to Microsoft Excel. It is very easy to use. Application of formulas on specially on large data is much easier in this tool.

**What do you dislike about LibreOffice Calc?**

Sometimes it creates problem in opening csv files and xlsx format files. Sometimes data get corrupted when stored in other than ods format. Also, while saving the already opened csv file, it asks whether to save it in ods or Microsoft Excel xlsx format which is quite annoying sometimes.

**Recommendations to others considering LibreOffice Calc:**

Best if you want to store the files in .ods format.

**What problems is LibreOffice Calc solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Mostly when I am using Ubuntu OS, I use LibreOffice Calc. So I open csv files with LibreOffice Calc and basic operations to clean the data, preprocessing like removing the duplicates etc are performed using this software.
