What I like most about Kepion is the ability to work with different business processes and always find an appropriate and efficient solution to the budgeting problems that different clients have. I think as a developer I would like some functionalities, such as moving information from one bucket to another, to be automated and made more effective in a more agile way. I have worked with a range of FP&A tools and Kepion really stands out for how easy it is to use while still being powerful under the hood. The interface is intuitive, especially for teams familiar with Excel and adoption tends to be fast and smooth.

It is tightly integrated with Microsoft technologies like SQL Server, Power BI, Microsoft Fabric etc. which makes it ideal for building out robust forecasts, models, and dashboards without requiring a complete overhaul of existing systems. I have seen clients get up and running much faster than expected, which is a big plus compared to some of the heavier legacy EPM or ERP platforms.

Customer support has also been excellent, fast to respond and deeply knowledgeable about both the platform and real-world planning scenarios. That kind of responsiveness really matters when you’re on a tight timeline or shifting scope.

There is not much to fault Kepion on, especially when compared to larger and more complex EPM and ERP systems. Like any robust platform, there is a bit of a learning curve when setting up more advanced modeling or workflows. While the interface is user-friendly, finance users with limited technical exposure might need some initial guidance on how to structure multi-dimensional models or leverage advanced planning features.

Another area for potential enhancement is around out-of-the-box reporting templates. While the reporting flexibility is strong, it would be great to see a library of more pre-built templates or dashboards for common FP&A use cases.

Kepion’s main downside is its reliance on SSAS OLAP: you have to manage cube processing and admin overhead, need scarce MDX/SSAS skills, real-time updates are less slick than modern in-memory engines, and you’re more tightly locked into the Microsoft stack. I love Kepion´s actual real-time calculation features, its budgeting and reporting functionality has been a great help in my business calculations; it is a versatile tool with a stable BI platform that has end-to-end encryption; I can design applications in the operations department to suit my personality. I would not recommend it for small businesses; you have to integrate considerably to get the most out of it, which requires more investment; the interface is not very intuitive and can be improved.
