As a sole tax practitioner, I don't need to coordinate schedules with others, but I do need an effective way to monitor the progress of my work projects. Before I started using Karbon, I relied on a paper matrix to keep track of my project workflow—which was both time-consuming and often confusing. With Karbon, I can create workflow templates for different types of projects, such as individual tax returns, business tax returns, and quarterly tax reports. These templates include all the necessary steps for each project, and I can easily update the status of each step as I go. The "To Do" feature in Karbon is especially helpful for managing short-term tasks, like calling a tax agency on behalf of a client or getting a client to sign a POA (tax Power of Attorney). I use Karbon daily as Karbon simplifies my workflow. I also appreciate that Karbon integrates with Google Gmail, making it easy to link emails directly to a client or a specific work project, or even both. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What do you dislike about Karbon? Karbon has added many functions in the past 2-3 years. So many in fact that I have not been able to explore all of them. What problems is Karbon solving and how is that benefiting you? It was so difficult starting to work each morning and trying to work through my old paper matrix. With Karbon, it is so easy to start the day, see the projects that need attention and see what projects I am behind on (which I am usually running behind). One new thing I’ve been enjoying about Karbon is the improved visibility and organization it gives me when planning my day, along with how seamlessly I can now communicate with clients directly from their profiles, which further reduces app switching and makes my workflow even more efficient. One area where Karbon could improve is by offering more customization options, such as adjustable themes or interface personalization, which would make the platform feel more engaging and allow users to tailor the experience to their personal preferences. I like that Karbon integrates everything into one tool and they consistently improve the software. It integrates with systems like Xero, emails, and our document management system, which saves us time through automations and integrations. I like that Karbon gives our hybrid team a platform to work collaboratively and communicate well. As an owner, it gives me visibility into how well work is progressing. I appreciate that it's a collaborative platform that also acts as a single source of truth. Every piece of work is assigned to someone, which ensures ownership. The ability to leave notes, comments, and tag teammates is really helpful from a collaboration perspective. Although the initial setup was intensive, the payback is significant. It’s easy to set up project templates and update them as needed, which helps track and maintain quality control for complex valuation reports. This also lets us assign portions of the work to staff with the appropriate skills, improving overall efficiency. We operate virtually, and before Karbon we never quite knew whose desk a case was on. Karbon helps us coordinate and stay connected on cases, so now we can clearly see who is working on each one at any given time.
