Jamf’s approach to intelligent automation is most compelling across its security and telemetry stack. Advanced behavioral analysis and native macOS threat detection (via Jamf Protect) can accurately identify Apple-specific attack vectors without creating noisy false positives. On top of that, real-time telemetry and predictive compliance reporting help surface weak configurations and missing patches before they become critical security exposures.

Jamf Pro is the metaphorical Cadillac of macOS device management - from a feature and supportability standpoint, it is untouchable by other products. For iOS/tvOS management, its functionality is similar to other MDM solutions - the real value is macOS device management. Some of the most powerful features for our organization include App Installers (Jamf packages 3rd party apps from vendors and code-signs them to be suitable for deployment via Jamf on all processor types), Restricted Software (prevent users or groups of users from accessing certain macOS applications by path, name of binary, etc.), and same-day compatibility with the latest macOS versions. The real value of Jamf Pro is macOS device management, but it comes at a cost. In the public higher education industry, the pricing is right at our breaking point (but still worth it). As with anything, a steeper discount for higher education would be beneficial. What I appreciate most about Jamf is its perfect integration with the Apple ecosystem and the power of its management features such as: Zero-Touch deployment, which is smooth and fully automated. Granularity and control: The precision of SmartGroups, configuration profiles, and the ability to deploy custom scripts, offering great flexibility in administration and performance. Security: The macOS update policy and fleet security monitoring are simple and effective on a daily basis. I love the speed and power of the Jamf binary, which really stands out to me. The ability to integrate Jamf with our other systems via API is another highlight, as it allows us to automate and customize our tooling to suit our specific business needs. The documentation is thorough, making it easy to either build in-house solutions or find community-built tools we need, ensuring we can move quickly and safely. I think the UI around smart group criteria and scoping could really use some improvements. It's quite challenging to see and edit groups and scopes confidently because of the current setup. Specifically, when I'm trying to adjust smart group criteria, I can only add items to the end of the list, not insert them where I actually need them. This means I have to delete and recreate the criteria just to make a simple addition further up, which is a hassle. I really like the Jamf dashboard because it provides so much information that helps me with basic troubleshooting, like checking uptime and disk space on a user's computer. Another thing I appreciate is how it's always gathering new information from end users, as long as they're connected, which makes a significant difference. I find it incredibly useful to search by username, computer name, or even just an IP address to find devices I'm looking for. Plus, Jamf is simple, so even junior techs can use it effectively. I was just talking about this with the Jamf representatives that were here at JNUC. The number one issue that I have, and it is a very it's personal, but it's it means a bit it it's a lot. So in the Jamf dashboard, in the inventory display settings, you are not able to customize the order of the of the columns in which you would like them to be. It is a very simple option that lower level tools have. Jamf prides itself on being able to taylor the product to your needs. I feel that this is one part of the customization that Jamf has not listened to its customers. I have seen this feature request in the Jamf community for years & it hasn’t happened. I love Jamf's aggressive stance on adopting Apple's features, as they often support new features in management on day one. Their dedication to integrating Macs into enterprise environments by leveraging connections with Apple and Microsoft is impressive. The user interface is dated, which is the downside of being such an established product. Managing app patches can be obnoxious. The need to upload new versions of each Office app is time consuming, the functionality looks great for custom apps, but can't be used for custom apps instead I find myself cacheing and uploading versions of publicly available apps. I appreciate the ability to push out configuration profiles at both user and computer levels, which streamlines management significantly. I value the partnership with Apple, which ensures updates are rolled out on day one, maintaining system security and efficiency. I really like Jamf's user interface for how easy it is to use and how much I can accomplish with it.
