## Indent Reviews
  ### 1. Instant access control for startups

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Alexander C. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 15, 2023

**What do you like best about Indent?**

One of the most effective ways to stop data breaches is simply prevent anyone from accessing the data.

As a startup, we don’t have the resource to build our own dynamic access control platform but Indent allows us to have industry leading access control practices without the maintenance of building our own solution.

**What do you dislike about Indent?**

In the beginning Indent required quite a lot of setup as we had to build our own integrations with Google Groups and Github but they have both been converted to native integrations meaning less maintenance burden for us.

The single thing I would like to see improve in Indent is the level of polish inside the web product. Most users will go through the Slack integration (which is great) but the web app is often difficult to use and can sometimes be buggy (although always quick repaired).

**What problems is Indent solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Indent allows us to implement dynamic access control for members of our team to view our customer’s most sensitive information. Working with Indent has allowed us to provide our customers with the best possible security and risk management whilst still delivering a world leading customer support experience.

  ### 2. Indent provides access to unblock my teams every day

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Becky V. | Systems Specialist, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 14, 2023

**What do you like best about Indent?**

It’s completely self-serve and my global users can get 24/7 access to low-risk resources, which is a game changer. We also like the fact that there's a paper trail showing who requested access via Indent, why they requested that access, and another log for verifying the access was revoked in a timely manner. When it comes to compliance audits, these log trails are key. Not to mention, having to set a reminder for someone to go in and pull their access is just a waste of resources and introduces too many oportunities for human error.

**What do you dislike about Indent?**

From a user’s perspective, it’s very smooth - however a few of our new-hires have randomly encountered Sync issues with Slack. This did require us to put in tickets to Indent, but I will say that their customer supportteam is fantastic.

**What problems is Indent solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Time-boxing access to higher privlidge roles. Our users are able to request access for short periods of time, get approvals, and have that access automatically revoked. Global support and access across several timezones. If someone in a different timezones requires access to a resource after US hours, they can get this via Indent with automatic approvals.

  ### 3. An absolute game-changer for access management

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Geoff H. | CTO, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 14, 2023

**What do you like best about Indent?**

Indent is really easy to get started on and helped us add an approval workflow for our AWS, Github, and Tailscale access in a way that let us leverage least-privileged access without a large bureaucratic burden.

Indent's Slack-based approvals workflow is easy for our team to use. The on-call integration allows us to enable emergency "break glass in emergency" workflows without a general opening up of access. The audit trail is great for SOC2 compliance, it's easy to demonstrate that access is requested, justified, approved, and then revoked after use.

When we've had a couple small issues they have been on the issue before we reported it. We got direct help from engineers to set up some of our workflows.

Bonus: They have a nice non-profit discount.

**What do you dislike about Indent?**

Very minor: some of the integrations require some work to install with a combination of Github Actions and Terraform. The more recent integrations didn't require this kind of extra setup. We've already seen multiple integrations transition to a Indent-provided setup since we've been using the product. For each of these cases, we were able to get the Indent team to help us troubleshoot and finish the setup.

**What problems is Indent solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Indent allows us to have least-privilege access for several of our key systems. Engineers can get access to make AWS changes or to connect to sensitive systems with Tailscale via an approvals workflow. Allowing on-call engineers to get some access in a self-approved (and retroactively reviewed) manner helps us streamline the investigation and restoration process in an emergency.

Using Indent made reporting our access approvals workflow really easy in our SOC2 audit.

  ### 4. Indent is our swiss army knife for IT, Security, and Compliance

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Adnan A. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 11, 2023

**What do you like best about Indent?**

Self-service access management, automated approvals using our PagerDuty on-call rotation, and granular permissions for specific elevated & privileged access all together allow for a smooth mechanism to unblock our employees as they go through their work day. My favorite part about working with Indent is how easy they are to reach and collaborate with as our needs have grown. The product has grown with us.

**What do you dislike about Indent?**

There’s nothing major, but as a technical team we’re eagerly waiting for dark mode support.

**What problems is Indent solving and how is that benefiting you?**

“Who do I ask for access to ___?”
“Do we have this tool in our catalog?”
“How do I automate access to group based tooling?”
“We need easy access to reports for our auditors every quarter”

Indent helps us answer all these questions and keep our team moving and secure, without slowing down. The auto approval process has been a major benefit for our customer engineering team as they strive to be responsive to our customers and support them efficiently.

  ### 5. Indent secures our databases, infra, and company with least-privilege access

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rick B. | Director of Software Engineering, Information Technology and Services, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 09, 2023

**What do you like best about Indent?**

Engineers on my team can easily request production access directly from Slack with Indent’s /access command. I can approve just-in-time access for a limited period of time from my phone, wherever I happen to be. It gives my team access to what they need quickly, while staying secure.

**What do you dislike about Indent?**

Most of our feature requests were incorporated a while ago, so there’s nothing major. It would be nice to automatically extend access before it expires when you’re on-call. So far we’ve solved that by granting access for a few extra hours in those cases.

**What problems is Indent solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Our customers rely on the reliability and security of our systems. Indent lets us avoid compromising the productivity of our engineering team when implementing secure-by-default, least-privilege access control for production and SOC2-certified systems.

  ### 6. Indent powers least-privilege security for our fintech product

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Matt M. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 14, 2023

**What do you like best about Indent?**

Indent helped us implement least-privilege security for our financial services requirements, without blocking our engineers. They can get production access faster than it takes to boot up a local rails server sometimes. So that's amazing to me that it's so on demand that anyone can access it and we’re not wasting any time managing roles.

**What do you dislike about Indent?**

Nope, it works great for us! Any time we mention a minor product friction or load time, they eagerly introduce fixes same-day.

**What problems is Indent solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Our critical software providers are listed on one hand and Indent is one of them. It's worked so well that we're very confident in rolling that out to more of the company.

  ### 7. Permissioning made easy

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** João M. | Software Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 14, 2023

**What do you like best about Indent?**

With Indent it's quick and easy to request access to our various permissioned resources. The Slack integration makes it a natural part of our day to day workflow and the ability to re-request access to an auto expired resource makes it a breeze.

**What do you dislike about Indent?**

Nothing, working pretty well for all of our current requirements.

**What problems is Indent solving and how is that benefiting you?**

When a customer reaches out to us or we ship a new feature, it’s important for engineers to get just-in-time production access - otherwise we’re just wasting everyone’s time. Indent gives me back hours every week that I would otherwise have spent waiting.

  ### 8. Indent ensures least privilege access for our customer financial data

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Lukas K. | Co-Founder, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 11, 2023

**What do you like best about Indent?**

It’s just so easy for our team to request access with /access in Slack or from the web dashboard. When I need to review, I don’t have to open any other apps - I can just approve from Slack. It’s saved our team so much time that I can’t imagine going without it.

**What do you dislike about Indent?**

More direct integrations would be great, since we have non-SSO apps that could also benefit from temporary access.

**What problems is Indent solving and how is that benefiting you?**

With Indent, we've struck the perfect balance - bolstering our security infrastructure while enabling our engineers to respond to customers and ship faster than before.

  ### 9. Indent keeps our AI observability platform secure

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Dan S. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 15, 2023

**What do you like best about Indent?**

It’s really important for us that we keep production systems and customer data locked down and limited to least privilege access. With Indent's help, we were able to shift to time-bounded access as the default for our engineering team.

**What do you dislike about Indent?**

There’s a lot of features in the platform and I feel like I’m still learning about more use cases for the product, like the API. It’d be great to be able to manage approver groups using Okta groups.

**What problems is Indent solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use Indent for temporary access to production systems and customer data. Our team can raise self service access requests that are automatically routed to the right person for review, all without leaving Slack and keeping our access review burden as low as possible.

  ### 10. Indent is core to securing our customer data

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Stevan A. | Head of InfoSec & SRE, Internet, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 10, 2023

**What do you like best about Indent?**

The beauty of Indent is that it is more than just checking a box from a compliance perspective - it is a key component of our security posture in proving on-demand access to our production network and customer data.

**What do you dislike about Indent?**

More integrations - we're small enough to not use Okta or another enterprise IdP, so additional intergations for the tools we use would be helpful.

In regards to access provisioning features, it would be great to be able to extend access, specifically for on-call use cases.

**What problems is Indent solving and how is that benefiting you?**

On-demand access for engineers to our Production network (VPC) and Production databases (which store our customer data). Indent makes being secure, fast, and SOC2 compliant significantly easier, which for a small team like us is very important.
