Honestly, most comp tools that look “affordable” at first, stop being cheap once your plans get even slightly complex. We looked at a few when we were still a lean sales team and spreadsheets were breaking every month. So we moved to an “affordable” tool. This tool worked fine when our plans were simple and we didn’t have multiple reps across multiple countries. But when the team expanded and accelerators, splits, or clawbacks came in, the tool just fell apart. It cost us more time and money in the long run.

We transitioned to Visdum in 2022 because it handled the complexity without feeling enterprise-heavy, and implementation was refreshingly quick. Pricing was reasonable compared to the bigger legacy tools like Xactly and Spiff. I’d say don’t just look at sticker price, look at how long it’ll actually work before you outgrow it.

Has anyone tried Salesforce Spiff or CaptivateIQ for managing sales compensation at a startup? I’m curious which one offers better value without sacrificing key features.
