  ### 4. An Easier Learning Curve

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Craig S. | Senior Project Manager/Hydrologist, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 08, 2022

**What do you like best about GeoHECHMS?**

Using GeoHECRAS and GeoHECHMS with similar interfaces makes training and becoming productive much quicker. The availabilty of GEOHECHMS staff to answer questions and address problems is amazing. The ability to import so many different types of information and use them concurrently is very helpful.

**What do you dislike about GeoHECHMS?**

Sometimes the placement of command icons is not the most intuitive, but they are consistent.

It usually takes a while for GeoHECHMS to include the latest version of HECHMS. For those of us who want it NOW, it is a minor inconvenience.

**What problems is GeoHECHMS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are able to respond quickly to new projects from multiple offices. Sharing training experience and analytical methods helps us to broaden our deepen our staff H&H bench.

  ### 5. Best Software for Hydrological Analysis

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** pacer f. | Engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 11, 2023

**What do you like best about GeoHECHMS?**

GeoHECHMS amplifies productivity by making the basic hechms software more intuitive, dramatically increasing workflow and model development efficiency.

**What do you dislike about GeoHECHMS?**

A review is required because some auto-generating tools do not work perfectly, which requires additional time to perform the necessary QAQC for the model.

**What problems is GeoHECHMS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

GeoHECHMS is used primarily for flood studies for dams. We can now generate much more robust models without increasing the model's build times, and automated report generation is a nice bonus in the end.

  ### 6. GeoHECHMS - Civil

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Dakota S. | Graduate Civil Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 17, 2023

**What do you like best about GeoHECHMS?**

GeoHECHMS has allowed us to look at a large area tributary to a site and calculate areas and runoff. This was achieved much quicker than in the previous analysis.

**What do you dislike about GeoHECHMS?**

Overall the system is efficient, but I feel like some tasks could be less complicated.

**What problems is GeoHECHMS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

GeoHECHMS helps solves drainage paths and areas for a large tributary area.

  ### 7. Excellent for Hydrology

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tom D. | Principal, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 28, 2022

**What do you like best about GeoHECHMS?**

GeoHECHMS, much like it's HEC-RAS counterpart, is a great improvement to the functionality of the base program. Features that I love are the automated curve number generation and time of concentration calcluations. The software uses GIS functionality, allowing you to bring in data and determine composite curve numbers relatively easily - saving time. With a surface, it can determine the longest Tc path for a drainage area. This path can be overridden with a custom path, or modified to give a better result - again saving time. Drainage areas and Tc paths can be exported into AutoCAD for inclusion in plan drawings. Also, importing AutoCAD drawings as overlays is very easy.

**What do you dislike about GeoHECHMS?**

GeoHECHMS has little to no stormwater BMP design functionality. When designing stormwater controls, I normally use GeoHECHMS to determine composite CN values and time of concentration. Then, I use these values in another program to complete the stormwater design (i.e. pond routing). Also, the tools included to change the cover type can be a bit clumsy. As far as I know, you can't import cover data in shapefile format, which would make things faster and more accurate. Instead, you have to import a drawing as an overlay, then draw over the top of the changes with tools remiscient of paint.

**What problems is GeoHECHMS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As a small company, being able to efficiently complete design is very important. GeoHECHMS saves a great deal of time by allowing for easier determination of CN and Tc values for site development projects. For H&H reports, the tools expediates the hydrology portion. The program has been a real time saver.

  ### 8. The most enjoyable way to generate flows via NRCS Curve Number Runoff Equation.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** John T. | Graduate Civil Engineer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 12, 2022

**What do you like best about GeoHECHMS?**

The most enjoyable part of GeoHECHMS is the automatically generated curve number and interface the NLCD land cover database. The ease of use of having the soil data easily accessible and represented graphically is a massive benefit to teaching others.

**What do you dislike about GeoHECHMS?**

The program has issues interfacing with odler HECHMS files. This is not just an issue with GeoHECHMS but new versions of HECHMS as well. It would be nice to have a fix for this.

**What problems is GeoHECHMS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

When teaching others HECHMS, I find my time often spent showing EITs how to troubleshoot as the program has a less user-friendly interface. GeoHECHMS gives newer users more feedback and visual aids, allowing them to troubleshoot unattended.

  ### 9. good software saving much time and built models with the right calculations

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** ghassan d. | Design Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 27, 2023

**What do you like best about GeoHECHMS?**

drainage studies for different sites by giving the correct numbers and methods

**What do you dislike about GeoHECHMS?**

so far, not many significant things at all

**What problems is GeoHECHMS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

nothing

  ### 10. GeoHECHMS - great automation and features!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Charlie D. | Water Resources Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 29, 2022

**What do you like best about GeoHECHMS?**

GeoHECHMS automatically delineates watersheds and flow paths really quickly! It draws from the latest rainfall and land use information using federal databases such as USGS stream stats and NWS Atlas 14. I like how the user can change things on the fly by dragging and adjusting the elements in space graphically. The output report is incredible because it saves writing time and is visually attractive for clients to read. This software is also compatible with regular HEC-HMS so that you can send the models to regulatory review agencies easily for their review.

**What do you dislike about GeoHECHMS?**

GeoHECHMS needs to write a comprehensive user manual that tells users which order to perform the steps. The menus at the top of the program's graphical user interface should be arranged from left to right in the order that you operate the steps. There are a few functions where the user selects shapefile or point elements, and the program has trouble letting go of them (unselecting) after the action is executed. Otherwise, the program is very efficient and helpful!

**What problems is GeoHECHMS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

GeoHECHMS is helping users to calculate watershed hydrology quickly. Peak discharges (water quantities) from watershed storm events are critical for performing floodplain studies and sizing stormwater infrastructure. The standard process of delineating watersheds, developing the flow paths, gathering land use, rainfall, and gauge information, and running the hydrographs can be burdensome. The program makes the whole process a lot quicker and easier.

  ### 11. Very good experience with GeoHECHMS

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Monica R. | President, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 21, 2022

**What do you like best about GeoHECHMS?**

This program is very easy to use, run multiple scenarios and see the results. The best thing is report generation. It is so much faster to generate reports using this feature because it is automated and standardized.

**What do you dislike about GeoHECHMS?**

None really. The more I use it, the more familiar I am with the inputs and how to use the program. I watched the tutorial over and over again in the beginning.

**What problems is GeoHECHMS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use GeoHECHMS for setting up the hydrology models for several dam breach modeling. I also use it to set up the hydrology model for a proposed stream restoration project.

  ### 12. Efficient and user friendly way to complete jobs

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Civil Engineering | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 15, 2022

**What do you like best about GeoHECHMS?**

I have to determine stream crossing flows at culvert crossings for large and small areas quite often. This software allows me to easily determine areas along with automatically calculating the corresponding parameters at that crossing to be entered into the USGS regional regression equations much faster than previous programs I have utilized. It also allows you to change drainage areas easily to recalculate basin characteristics for proposed changes to roadway or site grading. Bringing in Lidar data is much easier than previous programs and you can combine lidar and autoCAD design surfaces easily with this program.

**What do you dislike about GeoHECHMS?**

I always feel like you can improve all programs but I honestly can't think of a way to improve this software as it has easily surpassed the previous software programs I have used.

**What problems is GeoHECHMS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

A majority of our work is figuring out smaller drainage area flows that USGS Streamstats doesn't solve which this program is great for. We had been using a free software to accomplish this but by using GeoHECHMS we are able to shorten the design time greatly. It also allows us to make changes as we go much quicker and easier.

  ### 13. Enhancing Hydrologic Design

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Civil Engineering | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 10, 2022

**What do you like best about GeoHECHMS?**

Much like its companion GeoHECRAS does for hydraulic design, GeoHECHMS streamlines the whole process of hydrology. Its user-friendly interface, along with the ability to easily delineate land use areas and basins, make it a joy to work with.

**What do you dislike about GeoHECHMS?**

The only negative I've encountered is the inability of the program to run HMS models using anything older than 4.0. However, this is more a product of the HMS engine and not of the program itself.

**What problems is GeoHECHMS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It solves the problem of finding flows for large areas (areas that require HMS) very quickly. The functions for delineating areas and calculating CN values make that process much smoother.

  ### 14. Excellent Software for Stormwater and Culverts Design, and writing report

  ### 15. GeoHECHMS makes hydrological modeling efficient with compelling GIS integrations

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Civil Engineering | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 27, 2022

**What do you like best about GeoHECHMS?**

GeoHECHMS provides a platform to expedite the creation of hydrological models in a GIS framework, allowing for more visual and intuitive navigation of problems that are being solved with the models. The efficiency allows the engineer to spend more time on problem solving and design, rather than on model development tasks. The technical support team is very helpful and should be considered an integrated component of the model development workflow for maximum efficiency, quality, and value out of the software.

**What do you dislike about GeoHECHMS?**

The software is built upon freely available software (HEC-HMS), so much of the output can be achieved without paying for geoHECHMS. However, this comes at a cost of time and resources due to the less efficient workflows, and no access to the incredibly useful technical support team, which is why geoHECHMS is so valuable.

**What problems is GeoHECHMS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Stormwater management, wetland and stream restoration design, flood hazard mapping, presenting modeling results with compelling visuals in a GIS-based platform, and client and stakeholder consultation. Workflow efficiency has increased considerably and the number of hours required to complete projects has reduced, allowing me to allocate more hours to problem-solving and value-added services for clients. As a self-employed consultant, I can take control of more phases of a project, reducing the need for inefficient task hand-offs to other consultants and iterative processes by integrating design workflows into efficient hydrological modeling tasks.

  ### 21. Simplify your model setup!

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Civil Engineering | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 08, 2022

**What do you like best about GeoHECHMS?**

GeoHECHMS has automated almost every workflow needed to pull together the base information for the designs. Their tools dramatically simplify setup but still provide all the background information so you can QA/QC the automation as you go. It dramatically reduces the time needed to build the models while not decreasing the model's accuracy. In particular, I appreciate the automation of the TOC calculations which help identify the longest flow path within the watershed and then easily modify the flow lengths to update the TOC. This provides much better workflows than the traditional HMS modeling.

**What do you dislike about GeoHECHMS?**

Its difficult to import an existing model into the software and then modify the data using any of the automated tools provided. It would be nice to be able to import a watershed shapefile to use some of the tools provided within the software.

**Recommendations to others considering GeoHECHMS:**

Its great software for creating new models using HMS. It is especially helpful in robust models with multiple sub-watersheds that each require calibration.

**What problems is GeoHECHMS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

GeoHECHMS is used primarily for flood studies in ungaged basins and to generate inflow hydrographs for dams. Due to the automation within the models, we are now able to generate much more robust models without increasing the build times for the model and the automated report generation is a nice bonus at the end.

  ### 22. Convenient and integrated software

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tanner G. | Water Resources Project Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)
