**Reviewed by:** Sebastien E. | IT Operations Manager, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 31, 2024

**What do you like best about Freezerworks?**

The product is great, but the development team is what makes it the best. They listen to their customers and take their feedback to heart, they improve the application constantly based on needs and suggestions. Their support and reachability is impeccable. Their yearly user education conference is a must attend!

**What do you dislike about Freezerworks?**

The PC client is a little hard to use for some end users but their push towards a full fledge web client makes it a non issue

**What problems is Freezerworks solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Keeping track of thousands or research samples received from all over the country. It allows us to easily manage our storage space, gives a quick overview of patient compliance in providing smaples.

  ### 3. Freezerworks On-Site Training

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Phillip E. | Laboratory Supervisor and Biorepository Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 12, 2024

**What do you like best about Freezerworks?**

Freezerworks is me a biorepository software platform that allows me to keep detailed storage records for thousands of previoulsy collected human research biological samples, which are stored across multiple freezers. The software's ease of use, data implementation and data integration features makes it an outstanding biorepository software platform which is user friendly.

**What do you dislike about Freezerworks?**

The limitations of importing thousands of samples in one entry excel file (e.g., 30,000) without the software being disrupted and/or crashing. In my experience, the import of samples can be successful without error when only entering roughly between 2,500 to 5,000 samples.

**What problems is Freezerworks solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Within our lab, Freezerworks helps solves a way to successfully update, document, and enter research sample data and storage locations for future research experimental, collaboration, and shipping purposes.

  ### 4. Excellent chance to meet other users and the support staff from Freezerworks

The ability to track samples throughout our workflows.

**What do you dislike about Freezerworks?**

There are always bugs when there is a new release. Sometimes they can have a great effect on our workflows.

**What problems is Freezerworks solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Speed. Apparently the browser is going to be way faster than the desktop version.

**Official Response from Ryan Gangle:**

> Dear Forrest,

  ### 5. Mayo Clinic Tissue Registry

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Medical Practice | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 28, 2022

**What do you like best about Freezerworks?**

Hands down best program support staff I have interacted with in my professional career. I have collaborated with several staff from various levels of support, and no matter the request or challenge there is continual communication an d follow through with a resolution or next steps to take. They are intentional in understanding the specific needs of the client and the capacity in which Freezerworks is being utilized, and are continually exploring ways to maximize efficiency and functionality for how their program is built. It is a company governed by the needs of the clients, and this is apparent in the personal ownership the staff have in ensuring their customer needs and ideas are heard and acted upon.

**What do you dislike about Freezerworks?**

There are opportunities for advancement in customizable features within the program, and incorporating additional integration with other lab equipment and applications, more specifically in relational conditional formatting that can span multiple tables and fields.

**What problems is Freezerworks solving and how is that benefiting you?**

They are currently looking at restructuring our instance to decrease the data bloat and delays we are experiencing from the sheer volume of records held within Freezerworks as well as the duplication of case information.

  ### 6. The experience from my first Freezerworks Conference

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 29, 2024

**What do you like best about Freezerworks?**

I enjoy that the functionality withing the tool actually works as designed

**What do you dislike about Freezerworks?**

We manage a number of labs/groups and we have multiple test and production environments. We would like the ability to be able to promote data and configuration from test/validation to production environments

**What problems is Freezerworks solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Freezerworks provides an simplier way for labs to store samples as opposed to the LIMS systems associated with our Central Bio Repository

**Official Response from Ryan Gangle:**

> Dear valued Freezerworks User,

**What do you dislike about Freezerworks?**

There really has not been any issue that we have not been able to successfully overcome with the help of the Freezerworks team!

**What problems is Freezerworks solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Freezerworks allows us to catalog and annotate thousands of research samples. This enables us to quickly retrieve subsets of samples for analytical purposes.

  ### 8. Helpful software

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rhonda S. | Scientist, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 28, 2022

**What do you like best about Freezerworks?**

Freezwerworks makes it easy to organize and find information regarding stocks kept in our freezers. The customer service people are very helpful.

**What do you dislike about Freezerworks?**

The software could be more intuitive. I often have to review instructions or contact customer service for help.

**What problems is Freezerworks solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Freezerworks allows us to keep our samples organized so we can fill orders to our internal customers more quickly.

  ### 9. Very useful tool

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Research | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 29, 2024

**What do you like best about Freezerworks?**

allows us to keep more accurate freezer inventories. excellent customer support!

**What do you dislike about Freezerworks?**

limited fields allowed when having to share between labs

**What problems is Freezerworks solving and how is that benefiting you?**

ease of knowing quantity left and location of samples

  ### 10. Fully Customizable LIMS for all labs

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Research | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 29, 2022

**What do you like best about Freezerworks?**

The customer service provided by Freezerworks support staff is exceptional. I have reached out with so many questions over the years, from questions about the software itself, to brainstorming sessions about how to best represent/model certain kinds of data. They are always willing to help. The company is pretty small, so the staff routinely discusses any issues that come up. From the support staff to the developers, testers, and sales teams - everyone is in the loop. I've found them to be really responsive when it comes to suggestions for software improvement or on those occasions when I've found a bug. They are constantly looking forward and improving the product and the interface.

**What do you dislike about Freezerworks?**

There can be a steep learning curve when starting out with Freezerworks. Also, since it is so customizable, I think that users can make a lot of errors when configuring their user-defined fields, making the database clunky and ineffective. The web client has been a great addition to the software in recent years, but it still needs a bit of fine-tuning.

**What problems is Freezerworks solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are a research institution that uses Freezerworks to catalog biospecimens from a large number of studies. Implementing Freezerworks has allowed us to efficiently track the origin, storage, chain-of-custody, and downstream use of hundreds of thousands of specimens stored in over 75 freezers. Freezerworks allows us to define the metadata that is important to each of the studies, ensuring that the full value of each specimen is maintained - because specimens without data have very little value in our line of work.

  ### 11. Freezerworks is very easy to use and good for sample management and tracibility.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Research | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 28, 2022

**What do you like best about Freezerworks?**

The user defined fields make it possible to make Freezerworks the best for your individual situation, including patient/donor fields, sample fields, and aliquot fields.

**What do you dislike about Freezerworks?**

It can be finicky sometimes, especially on the desktop version. The web client is a much faster interface, however printing labels from the web client can also be a bit of a struggle.

**What problems is Freezerworks solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Freezerworks is managing our entire sample inventory with a searchable audit trail, making it GLP compliant. It can also run workflows to process samples concurrently with procedures and complete the changes automatically in the system.

  ### 12. Freezerworks review

**Rating:** 2.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 30, 2021

**What do you like best about Freezerworks?**

I like that I can see a visual representation of my cryotubes and their positions in the freezer. This makes it easier to retrieve specimens or store them and helps me to waste less time figuring out what rack to get, especially since they are in liquid nitrogen.

**What do you dislike about Freezerworks?**

I don't like how slow and sluggish the software operates. In addition, I had to set up a second monitor to properly use the software, as the Freezerworks workspace maximizes and takes over my screen. This makes it difficult when referencing an excel sheet, etc.

There are also way too many options and input criteria that need to be filled out. I understand this can help with specificity, but sometimes based on our diagnoses, we cannot fill all the boxes they (the software, that is) want us to when freezing down and logging in our specimens.

**What problems is Freezerworks solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We have been able to establish and keep track of our frozen lab specimens and retrieve them when necessary- though it sometimes can feel laborious due to the laggy and slow software.

  ### 13. BEST LIS EVER

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sylvester K. | Biochemist, Pharmaceuticals, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 30, 2019

**What do you like best about Freezerworks?**

We use a modified version of the Freezerworks that has the testing module protocol manager added to the summit edition. Freezer works is very user friendly and it is simple and straightforward to use. It is perhaps the well known freezer organization software for research laboratories. We use Freezerworks as a database, label practice and billing module instead of sample tracking sample storage. Adding samples into the database along with freezer positions is easy retrieving the same data is just as simple.

**What do you dislike about Freezerworks?**

Some unique features makes it confusing especially when you are not much experience. But with my 2 years experience i found it so easy to use

**Recommendations to others considering Freezerworks:**

I highly recommend that people use it. Its powerful, strong and beautiful

**What problems is Freezerworks solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Freezerworks as a database, label practice and billing module instead of sample tracking sample storage

  ### 14. Lot of problems/glitches in the past, but easy to use/navigate.

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Research | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 19, 2019

**What do you like best about Freezerworks?**

The platform is easy to use and navigate compared to other LIMS. It looks very good from an aesthetic standpoint.

**What do you dislike about Freezerworks?**

During our 5 years using FreezerWorks, we encountered multiple glitches and errors. Some of these were major events such as automatic deletion of over 10,000+ sample records after a new patch was released. We did not even know the samples were deleted from our database until staff ran weekly inventory numbers and noticed we were missing specimens from our system. FreezerWorks staff worked with our group to repair the data, but it was not without headache. The program did not run well on Mac computers. I've heard that they have since dropped support for Macs since there were so many problems. I personally worked with FreezerWorks for over 4 years and witnessed crashes, lost data, and weird program behavior during my daily routine running the LIMS. We have since left FreezerWorks for another cloud-based, secure LIMS that better fits our needs.

**Recommendations to others considering Freezerworks:**

Be sure that the system is compatible/supported with your existing operating systems.

**What problems is Freezerworks solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are not actively using FreezerWorks. In the past, we used FreezerWorks to manage our biorepository inventory.

  ### 15. Sharing experience with freezerworks software.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Brenda C. | Medical Laboratory Technologist, Hospital & Health Care, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 18, 2019

**What do you like best about Freezerworks?**

We have adapted the use of this system at ease , adaptability to any laboratory needs and also very good in Audition. It made reports for all samples or study based samples.

**What do you dislike about Freezerworks?**

It doesn't require a lot of experience in training it is simple to train new staff hence i can not say any drawbacks to this system.

**Recommendations to others considering Freezerworks:**

The use of this software is easy to install and use. The advanced features really helped us process laboratory running samples and so dispatched with no delay.

**What problems is Freezerworks solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We able to save patients information therefore easily in tracing when need arises.

  ### 16. Freezerworks the software for quick services.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Nelly C. | Medical Laboratory Technologist, Hospital & Health Care, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 16, 2019

**What do you like best about Freezerworks?**

This system allowed us to create a streamlined system of working by tracking samples, collecting clinical annotation, printing high quality barcode labels, and track productivty of the laboratory reports.

**What do you dislike about Freezerworks?**

Freezerworks is completely intuitive , therefore requires little or no training. I feel this comes with every assistance offered by the team as well it a software that truly has a lot of feature.

**Recommendations to others considering Freezerworks:**

I recommend this software to others laboratory practitioners since its a great experienced software.

**What problems is Freezerworks solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It has Helped us record information in na confidential format, easy to produce quick reports.

  ### 17. Decent LIS

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 26, 2018

**What do you like best about Freezerworks?**

The software has gotten a lot better over time. They are option to suggestions. We use a modified version that has the testing module and protocol manager added to the summit edition. We use Freezerworks as a database, label printer and billing module instead of sample tracking or sample storage.

**What do you dislike about Freezerworks?**

I think some of these may have fixed in the most recent 2018 release. The testing module does not fulling integrate with the rest of the software. At times it has been an afterthought. The testing module has limited customers, so they forget to fully test the functionality and integration. The rigidity of some of the windows and buttons can be annoying too.

**Recommendations to others considering Freezerworks:**

go for the summit editon if you can afford it, so that you have the most options to customize the fields

**What problems is Freezerworks solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use Freezerworks as a database, label printer and billing module. It replaced a much more expensive database that became to costly to maintain.

  ### 18. FreezerWorks is good for experienced users

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Brittany A. | Research Technician, Higher Education, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 23, 2018

**What do you like best about Freezerworks?**

I think Freezerworks is a very capable sample management system. Adding samples into the database along with freezer positions is easy and retrieving the same data is just as simple. Most tasks can be completed manually or using an excel sheet import. Freezerworks works great with my Tecan as it is capable of importing the excel sheets I get after a sample run.

**What do you dislike about Freezerworks?**

The user interface of Freezerworks is lacking. Unless one is familiar with the system, it is very hard to figure out what how to accomplish a task. The user-defined fields are also extremely hard to use. So hard for us, in fact, that we have stopped using them entirely and switched to another program to keep that data. The customer service is also terrible. Every time I email with a question I either get no response or an answer that is no where close to the question I asked.

**Recommendations to others considering Freezerworks:**

If you are looking for a system solely to store freezer location data then this product is great. It is simple to navigate into freezers, shelves, rows, boxes, or any other organization method you use. If you are looking at storing extra data besides the location data, I would suggest trying to work with technical support to make sure everything is set up correctly.

**What problems is Freezerworks solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Freezerworks makes it easy to see the samples that are in the database and that has been a huge benefit for us. Creating pull list with specific criteria is one of the best uses of this product.

  ### 19. Freezerworks 2017 review

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Stamen S. | Senior Systems Analyst, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 17, 2018

**What do you like best about Freezerworks?**

Very good samples inventory management system
Easy to use
Good responsive support
Web services

**What do you dislike about Freezerworks?**

Limited functionality via the web client - you have to use the thick client for the main functionalities.
No way to access the database besides from within the application (file based data file - not an RDBMS)

**Recommendations to others considering Freezerworks:**

Try it out - see if it fits your needs. Not the most modern software out there but it gets the job done.

**What problems is Freezerworks solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Freezer inventory management for our analytical and process sciences groups

  ### 20. Positive Review of FreezerWorks

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 20, 2017

**What do you like best about Freezerworks?**

I like the idea of freezer works very much - being able to quickly retrieve where samples are stored in each freezer is key to organizing our lab. Freezer works is very user friendly and it is simple and straightforward to use. It is perhaps the most well known freezer organization software for research laboratories. I believe this reputation is good for the future because Freezer Works will continue to add updates in order to maintain this top ranking.

**What do you dislike about Freezerworks?**

The cost of Freezer Works is one of the downfalls, although the software is definitely worth the money. I think Freezer Works should add a mobile app as well; it would be nice to have a phone in hand by the freezer with the Freezer Works app to pull up exactly where my samples are.

**Recommendations to others considering Freezerworks:**

Make sure to get everyone in your lab on board to using Freezerworks. It only works if everyone documents where there samples are!

**What problems is Freezerworks solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We organize all of our freezers in the lab with Freezer Works. This makes everything easy to find when you need it, and saves a lot of time looking for samples.

  ### 21. Makes organizing samples easy, slow interface

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 12, 2017

**What do you like best about Freezerworks?**

It's a great software to deal with high volume of samples. Its easy to enter values, and great to keep things organized and access data later on.

**What do you dislike about Freezerworks?**

It's extremely slow. Its difficult to modify samples that have been entered. Can only make one subset at a time.

**Recommendations to others considering Freezerworks:**

Definitely a good way to keep track of patient/clinical samples in terms of labeling and storage, etc

**What problems is Freezerworks solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It's a great way to keep track of high volumes of patient samples and help organize their data, and makes it easy to access it and find it in the freezer at any time. Makes labeling very easy
