"Powerful in Microsoft—But Setup, Admin Learning Curve, and Pricing Clarity Need Work"
3.5/5
What do you like best about Fortra Data Classification?

What stands out most to me is that Fortra Data Classification fits into the tools people already use, rather than expecting them to completely change how they work. Being able to classify emails, spreadsheets, presentations and other documents from within the Microsoft environment feels far more practical than relying on a separate process that people may forget to follow.

From a marketing and data perspective, I regularly work with customer information, CRM exports, campaign reports and performance dashboards. Having consistent labels attached to that data would make it much clearer what can be shared, who should have access and how sensitive information needs to be handled.

I also like the balance between automated classification and giving users some control. Automation can improve consistency, while the central administration and reporting features should make policies easier to manage across a wider organisation. The biggest benefit for me is reducing the reliance on every individual remembering every data-handling rule, without adding unnecessary friction to their day-to-day work. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Fortra Data Classification?

The main drawback for me is that the value seems heavily dependent on how well the system is configured and introduced across the business. Data classification can quickly become frustrating if users are presented with too many labels, unclear options or repeated prompts, so the initial setup and ongoing policy management need to be handled carefully.

There also appears to be a learning curve for administrators, particularly when building classification rules, managing permissions and making sure the system works consistently across different applications. For a smaller organisation, that level of setup could feel quite resource-heavy compared with a simpler solution.

I would also prefer clearer, more accessible pricing information. It is difficult to judge the likely return on investment without understanding the full cost of licensing, implementation, training and ongoing support. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Streamlined Classification with Excellent Integration"
4/5
What do you like best about Fortra Data Classification?

I appreciate how Fortra Data Classification simplifies tasks for end users without complicating matters. I like its integration with DLP solutions such as Forcepoint and Microsoft, which enhances data loss prevention. The customization options in the UI, like dialog boxes and popups, are a plus for me. The classification labels and user manuals make it easier to identify critical data, and the dashboards and reports are very helpful for stakeholders. Additionally, I value the way it ensures compliance with classification guidelines, adds classification value in file properties, and enables detection in DLP solutions to enhance security with features like encryption, blocking, and password protection. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Fortra Data Classification?

The reporting feature could be more advanced, particularly in terms of providing additional features to customize reports for data mapping and data cataloging. Also, I think providing data discovery and encryption features could add an extra layer of security. Additionally, the documentation could be more detailed and precise to help with deployment setup and guidelines. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
