The file synchronization aspect of files.com has saved me a lot of time. We use amazon s3 and sharepoint for our cloud storage and files.com keeps all of these locations synchronized for us (we don't need to write custom code to update each location). I like the ability to create secure links to share files, along with the feature to include an expiration date on those links (this allows us to send a file to a client, set it to expire in 7 days and then i don't have to worry about deleting the file). While there are several open-source products that allow basic SFTP for free. It’s disappointing to pay money for what seems like it could/should be less expensive. Things I dislike and need improvement with Files.com is the interface takes more explaining than I like for clinical staff who are not technical. The pricing also scales with storage, and imaging files are large, so our costs grow steadily as we accumulate data and retention requirements mean we cannot simply delete all studies to manage it. I like setting up a new client folder with the right permissions swiftly. Once configured, clients can easily access their files without needing a new link every time we have something new to share. The only real drawback we’ve encountered is pricing. While the price is absolutely justified for companies with high file volumes, complex routing needs, and heavy daily usage like ours (it easily replaces custom middleware and saves huge development and maintenance time), it feels significantly high for smaller teams or lighter workloads. As a development company, we especially lack flexibility in the pricing model. A client who only needs to synchronize a couple of files per day still ends up paying nearly the same as a large enterprise running thousands of transfers.
