What do you like best?

I love the way the product integrates with the Google Suite. Also, I have found that reviewers of ESI are able to review and label documents with minimal instruction from me, even if they have never used E-Discovery software before. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

Exterro Legal Hold is a first-rate Legal Hold Notice management solution best suited for large enterprises and those with substantial legal hold obligations. Our Proof of Concept highlighted critical features we require at Nokia - including powerful configuration options, a robust Compliance Portal for use by Custodians, a critical Employee Change Monitor module, and the Export Compliance option. What do you dislike?

With configurability comes complexity, so training and support are important for best use of this complex product - and these have been provided by Exterro on reasonable terms. Exterro Legal Hold empowers us to compliantly manage our Legal Hold obligations through automation of many functions that were previously handled manually. What do you like best?

Exterro has a good administrative UI that makes it easy for IT to implement and even engage the business as owners of the platform.

The ability to extend the platform with custom fields was vital for our organization to be able to adopt the platform and maintain our operational practice.

The ability to manage cases, hold, and notifications with system automation is a huge help in our operations. Being able to visually account in the UI and with reports is already giving us the ability to assess our practice and discover areas of value.

Integration between the modules for navigation (Case/matter, Hold, and In place preservation) makes it easy to work though the lifecycle of a case and quickly tell where you are. We can consider new workflows that we didn't have before.

Exterro integration with O365 is very beneficial. Data source integration is a great help and almost a must have. Being able to track in Exterro rather than navigating to a different platform is a win.

Leveraging the cloud version of the application is fantastic as you continually get the latest and greatest. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

While the automation is helpful there are still additional areas that would be great to see improved such as when additional datasources are added and need to be preserved.

You should consider Exterro to be feature rich and the team at Exterro an asset as you progress through the process.

What do you like best?

I enjoyed the ability to actively participate in the demo. I learn best by working through things, so this was definitely suited to my learning style. We were able to have our own test accounts and the ability to actually work through the platform. We were also extended the invitation to utilaize the ECM under our demo accounts for more practice with the tool. Exterro is making the line of communication between legal, IT, and HR virtually seamless, as we are able to better manage legal holds and the custodians associated with them. By allowing us to enact better communication between departments, we run much smaller risk of losing data due to lapses in communication. This is essential from a legal perspective and can ultimately save the company in the long run. The tools are pretty user friendly, and support is always available when needed. What do you like best?

I like that it is able to integrate with Legal Tracker. This allows us to keep all our matters linked, so we can keep everything in sync with each other. I also like how easy it is to use and create a legal hold. The template feature is great and makes creating legal holds so much easier and faster. All our holds can be uniform, so that no matter is missing any important information because the template is already there for us to use. I really enjoy the escalation feature as well, as this helps keep everyone accountable for acknowledging and reading the legal hold. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

So far, I do not like that we are only able to have one approver on a matter. We have a two verifier minimum on our legal holds, so it would be helpful for that limit to increase. I would like to be able to send it to my next level manager, then she approve it, then be able to send off to the attorney handling the matter next for approval and issuing. Another issue we have run into, is when my attorney is being assigned the task of approving, she is unable to go into the matter and edit the legal hold. It would be nice if she were able to do so herself, instead of having to reach out to me and make the edits before issuing. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Make sure you ask any questions or bring up any concerns you may have with the software to your account manager before the GO LIVE date, to ensure that the implementation is seamless. There is nothing worse than having a new program, when you are unsure of how it works/doesn't end up offering everything you needed. You want to make sure the program is tailored to exactly what your company needs. This will eliminate any issues arising after you begin using as your new legal hold program. Overall, we had very little hiccups with our go live because we had meeting after meeting with our account manager making sure we had everything in line. Definitely attend the training courses that Exterro provides, because they are extremely hands-on and helpful when you are just starting out. This will also alleviate any pending issues you have once you actually begin using the program. Play with the system so that you can become comfortable with the different features offered, and customize your page to make it easiest for you to navigate. There are so many different things that can be suited to your wants, that this system is well adapted to handle. We have a team of what we call "Champions", and these individuals were part of the initial integration and all of the meetings learning how Exterro worked. We now utilize them if we have any questions about the program that they can simply answer for us, so that we do not have to reach out to the support desk or our account manager for help. It is an easier view to see how many legal holds each custodians in involved in. It is almost integrated through our HR system, so that is extremely helpful when an associate no longer works for the company. Another problem we faced with our other platform was the lack of the accurate audit log. Exterro provides a real-time audit log of any changes that are made, and that is super helpful for us. I also really like the escalation feature, because that was a big issue with our last system. It was difficult to ensure that each custodian was acknowledging the hold. I like that Exterro automatically reissues the legal hold, and will escalate to the supervisor if the custodian has failed to acknowledge the hold. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

The Early Case Assessments capabilities within the EDDM Module allow you to get a quick view of the data that will be collected to ensure initial keywords/date ranges are returning the appropriate results. It is also helpful to ensure the requested collection will not be overly burdensome to complete. In addition, the use of advanced searching and labeling is extremely helpful in culling our non-responsive content to reduce time/cost for review. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

Production elements can be linked to a particular matter, but unlike the other modules of Exterro (Legal Hold, ESI, etc.) you are unable to see matter associated productions from within the matter. In addition, if using a hosted environment, large productions could take quite a bit of time to download from the Fusion platform adding additional time and frustration. There's still too much disconnected and division between the traditional "Exterro" platform and the "Jordan Lawrence" pieces. Even the training team and employees still refer to themselves on one half or the other...needs to be visually and in every way integrated with a single story rather than convoluted pieces. IPP is a big help to put our O365 data on preservation. The implementation side was a long implementation since it was buggy. The Data Source Discovery piece took lots of testing and changes to get right. At the end, we discovered that was a bug that won't update OneDrive if a data source was initially added for a user. I like that Exterro is a tool that combines many different modules in one. It's a one stop shop, rather than having separate tools for legal holds, collection/production, DSARs, etc. Everything is integrated and all on one platform which makes managing all stages of a matter easier.
