**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Banking | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 04, 2019

**What do you like best about ER/Studio?**

Easy to learn and use, wide database support. Has a robust data model version control. Client interface is very customizable.

**What do you dislike about ER/Studio?**

A lot of bugs, specifically with databases like Informix and Apache HIVE. Based on a 3 years of experience technical support representatives are not very professional, even with the vendor's Platinum support subscription. Overall, the tool is failing to stay current and up to date with the latest technology trends and features. Data lineage feature of the tool is very cumbersome to use and does not have automated data lineage harvesting (or reverse-engineering of the data lineage). No API support to extract the metadata or to import new data models. No automated functionality to auto catalog new data models or data model objects. Data model printing does not support PDF format. Data model printing and sharing is difficult overall. Bugs with data types.

**Recommendations to others considering ER/Studio:**

Tool is easy to use. Promises to support a lot of databases, however make sure it adequately supports the databases you are looking to use it with.

Tool does not have an API. Tool does not allow automatically harvest data lineage. Tool's data lineage capability is cumbersome and difficult to use. Tool does not have an automated way to import new database entities. Data model metadata extraction is not automatic, difficult and requires a lot of custom SQL and VB development.

**What problems is ER/Studio solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Data modeling, data lineage and data governance.

  ### 14. great software for data modeling

  ### 15. ER Studio is best of breed data modeling tool

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Bert S. | Chief technology Officer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 16, 2015

**What do you like best about ER/Studio?**

ER Studio is not only a comprehensive and robust data modeling tool - but it is designed and developed by a team that clearly understands data modeling needs and industry trends. A long time ago CA's ERwin was the tool of choice, but these days ER Studio provides as much or more functionality with a much clearer vision or product strategy. It also generates some of the best DDL from a data modeling tool - often requiring zero changes or modifications before executing.

**What do you dislike about ER/Studio?**

there are a few too many "editions" - it ought to all just be one inclusive offering

**Recommendations to others considering ER/Studio:**

When evaluating data modeling tools make sure not to only evaluate the diagramming aspects of the tool as the picture is only the tip of the iceberg. Good data models contain lots of metadata that's behind the picture and which results in higher quality database designs. Most freeware or shareware tools do a decent picture, but lack the metadata. So it's worth paying for a quality tool.

**What problems is ER/Studio solving and how is that benefiting you?**

capturing and recording true business requirements and transforming them into a cohesive database design that is both effective and efficient.
