Who is ER/Studio pricing best suited for?

ER/Studio's pricing structure best serves mid-market and enterprise data architecture teams. G2 reviewers from banking, healthcare, IT services, and financial services — predominantly mid-market and enterprise segments — dominate the review base, consistently praising multi-database support, logical and physical modeling, and DDL generation. Data Architect Standard suits solo architects needing cross-platform modeling without collaboration overhead. Data Architect Pro fits teams requiring version control and shared repositories, a pattern confirmed by mid-market reviewers in logistics and IT. ER/Studio's Enterprise pricing targets large organizations needing governance integrations with Purview or Collibra, reflected in enterprise reviewer feedback from banking and healthcare emphasizing enterprise-wide collaboration and metadata management.

What are the key differences between the free and paid versions of ER/Studio?

No free version exists. G2's pricing data for ER/Studio shows a free trial for evaluation, with fully licensed access starting at $2,687.00/year for Data Architect Standard, covering solo logical and physical modeling plus a Data Dictionary. Upgrading to Data Architect Pro at $3,693.00/year adds version history, a central check-in/check-out repository, and team collaboration — features G2 reviewers in mid-market IT and logistics specifically value for managing change across modeling teams. ER/Studio's Enterprise tier, priced via custom quote, layers in metadata integration, a web portal, and connections to governance tools like Purview and Collibra, capabilities absent from both lower paid tiers.

Is ER/Studio considered good value for its pricing?

G2 reviewers give ER/Studio an average 4.5/5 rating, signaling strong satisfaction despite recurring cost concerns. An enterprise reviewer in real estate explicitly flags it as expensive, and a banking reviewer at the 2.5/5 level cites bugs and lagging feature development as value detractors. Counterbalancing this, high-rated enterprise reviewers in banking, IT, and healthcare consistently credit ER/Studio's pricing with delivering DDL generation, multi-database support, and version-controlled collaboration unavailable in cheaper alternatives. One reviewer directly compares ER/Studio favorably to CA's ERwin. For teams with serious data modeling workloads, G2 reviews of ER/Studio indicate a premium-but-justified investment; solo users or budget-constrained small businesses may find the entry price steep.

It’s a powerful and robust platform for managing databases effectively, keeping everything structured and well organised. As a data engineer, I find the diagrams easy to understand, and the modelling features are comprehensive. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about ER/Studio?

The cost is high, and some of the features require a fairly steep learning curve. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Thank you for sharing your experience with ER/Studio! We’re glad the visual diagrams, modeling capabilities, and data dictionary generation are helping make complex datasets easier to understand and manage.

We also appreciate your feedback on pricing and the learning curve. ER/Studio is built to support complex data environments, but we know powerful functionality should still be approachable, and feedback like yours helps us continue improving the experience.

Thanks again for taking the time to review ER/Studio!

"Powerful data modeling with excellent change tracking"
4/5
What do you like best about ER/Studio?

I love most about ER/Studio is the visual modeling experience and the ability to switch between logical and physical models while maintaining their association. Reverse engineering is another feature that I would like to see more often in other products because it creates a model of the database that helps understand what has been built. The compare/merge feature helps keep track of structural changes, and I find the data dictionary, lineage views, and AI Data Modeling Assistant helpful in maintaining definitions and importing specifications to create a model from a business requirement faster. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about ER/Studio?

The interface may be overwhelming for someone interacting with big models and many objects, which requires one to spend time understanding the navigation system. More orientation assistance when first using the main modeling and repository procedures is required. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Kortney Phillips of ER/Studio

Hi Anit,

Thank you for the thoughtful review! We’re glad to hear ER/Studio’s visual modeling, reverse engineering, compare/merge, and data dictionary capabilities are helping your team spend less time on manual documentation and change tracking. It’s especially great to hear that the repository and version management are delivering clear value on larger projects.

We also appreciate your feedback around navigating larger models and getting started with some of the core modeling and repository workflows. That kind of input is incredibly helpful as we continue working to make ER/Studio easier to learn and use.

Thanks again for sharing your experience and for choosing ER/Studio!
