It gives us an accurate cost, Bill of Materials and it gives the customers accurate pricing 10/10 times. The automated drawings immediately after the quote being submitted is really cool! Customer can get an engineering drawing within 10 minutes or less instead of having to wait for an engineer to review the quote and then start on the drawing, which can take up to a few days. **What do you dislike about Epicor CPQ?** From a Dev User stand point, it doesn't have a "find and replace" feature like Excel or Google sheets does, but the snap logic isn't a spreadsheet, it's a translated code. IE: a value name changes in a table and that value is being called out in the snap blocks but it doesn't exist anymore. One would have to manually go through the snap blocks and update it. **Recommendations to others considering Epicor CPQ:** If you sell high "volume" products that needs drawing, KBMax is a no-brainer. If you have a lot of quotes to handle and need to process, KBMax is a no-brainer. I can't remember if it was PDM or an ERP, but I believe KBMax has a way of either pulling information into the system or pulling information from the system for automated BOM's. **What problems is Epicor CPQ solving and how is that benefiting you?** The business problems that we are solving is visibility of full product costing and ability to quickly provide our customers an engineering drawing. After they design their unit that fits their need, it can be sent to our CAD department to do any finishing touches that may be required. **What do you dislike about Epicor CPQ?** If you don't have any background in programming, it can be a little overwhelming when given all the information. I'm sure that after I use the product for a while and get some more training on it, it will become a lot easier to use. **Recommendations to others considering Epicor CPQ:** Try to provide KBMax with as much information about your end goal as possible. I prefer matlab becuase matlab has a cleaner ui/ux. KBMax gave my fellow engineers the ability to design a GPU mining rig render to then send to our sales team to determine how we will source the necessary materials to build the GPU rigs. **What do you dislike about Epicor CPQ?** boring 90's interface. You would think a design company would have improved their designs! It also streamlines our quoting process allowing us to become more efficient. Also, the KBMax team has been great throughout our deployment. They have been very helpful in teaching us how to use the software, and are always willing to try to solve any issues we come across. **What do you dislike about Epicor CPQ?** The inability to choose what to deploy. If any changes are made in the developer environment, all will be deployed if you choose to do so. The option to maybe choose what sections to deploy could be nice. But overall it is trivial. **What problems is Epicor CPQ solving and how is that benefiting you?** KBMax is allowing our customers to view many of the products we provide in an easy to navigate program. The customer service is great and although I had some technical issues the development team was quick to help me through a remote connection and suggest my company purchase better hardware to use its modeling functionality. **What do you dislike about Epicor CPQ?** I would appreciate if the program maybe functioned through a desktop app instead of via browser but that is not much of an issue. I think the main problem is that the tutorials and wiki help page could use some updating. I sort of feel that video tutorials are a must for some of the more complicated nesting and modeling functions of the program. **Recommendations to others considering Epicor CPQ:** Do the required training. **What problems is Epicor CPQ solving and how is that benefiting you?** We have been using their software to develop a more accurate and robust quoting system for sales. Nice exporter add-in for SolidWorks that creates files that are easily uploaded for use in a 3D scene. Animation and Hotspots make the user experience cooler. Nested configurators help with maintenance and consistency. **What do you dislike about Epicor CPQ?** When making future changes, not being able to either revision in Dev or make changes in Test. Copy and paste between configurators could be improved. **Recommendations to others considering Epicor CPQ:** Plan the requirements ahead as much as possible. Think about what you would like in the 3D scene and how you want it to show. The snap blocks make it simple to program even for those who do not program everyday. Yet the ability to utilize the direct code makes it versatile for changes other coding requirements. The support of the KBmax team is also excellent and they are extremely responsive when problems arise. **What do you dislike about Epicor CPQ?** API can be challenging for some aspects of the customization. We rely on a heavy interface with the API because the program used externally and is branded with our website. Some of the UI on the website is clunky due to limitations in API and embedding features. **Recommendations to others considering Epicor CPQ:** Make sure you go through the training. There is a sizable library of information to help you out in the wiki but ultimately it is better to have the training to have a thorough understanding of what needs to happen. Also be very aware of the rules you want the system to follow. It is easier if you have them defined completely upfront. **What problems is Epicor CPQ solving and how is that benefiting you?** KBMax has allowed us to auto generate product configurations in minutes that before would have taken hours. The ability to utilize the API to customize our look and feel have allowed us to use it as marketing tool and business development outlet that we did not have previously. ### 13. The first was the it was very flexible and could accommodate complicated logic and still present a simple and understandable interface to the end users. The second was the simplicity of the back end programming. While none of the products we evaluated were plug and play or easy to maintain, the programming interface provided by KBMax CPQ was largely drag and drop logic with a little bit of programming required. It was simple enough that our product engineers could understand it with minimal training and they could get a comfort level with it within a few days of starting to use it. This allowed us to distribute the basic setup and ongoing support across multiple people rather than relying on a single administrator. Last but not least, the technical support we received in the sales stage was much better than any other product we evaluated and it stayed at a very high level after the purchase. Easy access, competent programmers with engineering backgrounds, and regular sessions with project management kept the project on point and moving along well. **What do you dislike about Epicor CPQ?** It would be nice to see the programming simplified even a bit more but, as I noted elsewhere, this programming interface was by far the most intuitive and easy to learn of approximately 8-10 products we evaluated. **Recommendations to others considering Epicor CPQ:** Define as much as possible about your business processes and product up front as possible. We went to great pains to do this and the results were much better than had we not done so. **What problems is Epicor CPQ solving and how is that benefiting you?** We sought to solve a number of business issues with a CPQ product and KBMax was able to address them all. One issue was controlling the selling price and discounting approvals worldwide. Another was having a uniform proposal format that would give consistency of appearance while also having flexibility to accommodate exceptions based on territory, language, currency, and individual subsidiary and distributor agreements. We sought to minimize the training time and prevent mistakes among new sales staff when selling a highly configured product. The final benefit we sought was to minimize the involvement of our product engineers in the configuration and sales order processing cycle in order to speed up the cycle time as well as free them up for more technically useful roles. ### 14. And specially the consumer centricity and agility of the support team here in EU, always willing to make it happen and delivering the product even with tight schedules. **What do you dislike about Epicor CPQ?** In terms of the product: when it comes to the configurator itself, fields, rules and the 3D scene for me it is really good, now the "output file" is a bit cumbersome (formatting), input files are not really easy to manage and we couldn`t find a great solution for when the configurator is updated. In terms of support: whenever a CPQ is needed to fix/adjust something we go to weeks or months of waiting, luckily nothing was a blocker for us up to now. **What problems is Epicor CPQ solving and how is that benefiting you?** A what you see is what you get approach, communication between marketing and product development teams. ### 17. They accept customer feedback, and are efficient at closing the loop, developing the software to fit each customer individually but without losing sight of the overall product. The software itself is a quick study, allowing you to build just about anything you want. **What do you dislike about Epicor CPQ?** When working with multiple configurators the deployment process requires some work arounds and extra communication to implement and maintain projects effectively. Communication is key no matter what the software provides but I think some enhancements to the deployment process would greatly ease the process for the team to effectively maintain and deploy configurator projects. **Recommendations to others considering Epicor CPQ:** Transparency is key during an evaluation. Ensure you trial and evaluate the full extent of your requirements with all the vendors you are considering. Where other vendors fell short was when they relied on a screenshot or by telling us they could do something, while KBMax actually showed us a working product that we could put our hands on. **What problems is Epicor CPQ solving and how is that benefiting you?** Automating CAD models and drawings for engineering, reducing wait times and handoffs between engineering groups and decreasing drawing lead times to sales. ### 23. They are always willing to create examples to show another way of thinking. They have also been very willing to review code and offer guidance and solutions as necessary. Any roadblock we have encountered, they are willing to look at and determine if a change to their program is necessary. Overall they have been very receptive and responsive. **What do you dislike about Epicor CPQ?** The deployment process seems to be a bit cumbersome for our needs. The inability to select which configurators get deployed to Prod has caused our team to re-think how we would like to deploy. KBMax, however, has been great at trying to come up with a solution that will fit our needs. **What problems is Epicor CPQ solving and how is that benefiting you?** We are automating multiple CAD drawings in order to reduce time designing by our engineering team. So far we have been able to cut back on multiple hours of repetitive work. We have also been able to standardize many designs across our company. Running the 3D on tablets and phones works really well also without downloading an app. Works right inside my Galaxy's web browser. Setup for the 3D is also worth mentioning because you can easily upload models from SolidWorks and quickly setup the model with the administrator back end. **What do you dislike about Epicor CPQ?** Don't really have any complaints. The 3D in KBMax can handle models much more complex in size than what we need **Recommendations to others considering Epicor CPQ:** Try testing large complex 3D models in other software. This was frequently necessary to ensure that the model built correctly and to keep the outputs organized. you should be able to more than one output feature in one move rather than dragging one at a time. You should also be able to copy and paste within the outputs. **Recommendations to others considering Epicor CPQ:** Take a look at all of the design parameters that you want to configure and try to figure out all the logic you will need to cover. With those rules coded into KBMax, we can focus more on what we want, and less on "are we allowed to do that?" **What do you dislike about Epicor CPQ?** Some people didn't like how the system requires Silverlight (a web add-on, like Adobe Flash). It would be nice if it didn't require this other software. Our company allows Silverlight, but maybe some other large enterprise-level customers would struggle with another piece of software installed on their user's workstations. **Recommendations to others considering Epicor CPQ:** When selecting a vendor, keep in mind not only their technology but also their team. This isn't just customization... it's complete construction. The navigation between the screens and various event sections is fast and easy. The software is relatively simple and clean which makes it robust. Very few crashes. **What do you dislike about Epicor CPQ?** 1) When creating functions in advanced code. KBMAX does not recognize the added code in other events such as "On End" or "On Child Value Change" or even in the action code until you save, close, and re open KBMAX. Then the advanced code is recognized. 2)Sometimes the intellisense does not open up and sometimes it does 3)Occasionally the configuration file will be closed with an error and there is a chance the config file will be unable to be reopened. The only way to save the file and access it would be to hit control, alt, shift, and z. Even then the editing is not very self explanatory. 4)Do not have any tutorials or documentation on any of this software. For example the cntl, alt, shift z thing was not told to us until months after we initially had the problem. The communication can be better from the troubleshooting standpoint. **Recommendations to others considering Epicor CPQ:** Understand what the software can do and the best way to use it for your application. You will need to find a balance between speed and function. Although speed and function should both be quite high. **What problems is Epicor CPQ solving and how is that benefiting you?** We are speeding up the engineering process considerably. Our company also has KB set up to generate a BOM linked to our ERP system. You can run multiple builds. Start one and while you wait for it to build, go back and configure another. **What do you dislike about Epicor CPQ?** (Minor issue - more of a personal annoyance) KB uses Silverlight which does not allow cutting and pasting with a mouse click. CTRL C & V still work.
