What do you like best?

What I like best about Datto is that it works. Backup and disaster recovery should be boring and when things are working it is. However, when things are not working and you *need* to recover data and restore business operations it rarely is boring. In every case were I have relied on Datto to restore operations it has delivered. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

Not much. The pricing for the high end hardware is high, which makes backing up large datasets expensive. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Backup and Disaster Recovery. It works, it is well supported. Being able to sleep at night and not worry about client data. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

Based in Linux, Datto SIRIS is a very helpful OS that has a super friendly UI for both beginners, and experts. You are seconds away from performing every degree of DR scenario imaginable, from a local file restore, a sandbox VM, or even a full meteor destruction spinup in the cloud! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

As a power user, the vendor disables features or revokes backend access to some features with updates. Some helpful features were revoked (such as SNMP) while new features come out without a heads up. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Datto provides free partner training classes. Be sure to take these and become certified for the best use of all the features they provide. Even today, our company only uses the features we need and the client asks. There's SO much more we can provide but just simply don't have the need for at this point in time. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Our fleet of 48 clients use Datto SIRIS devices and we enable full control for our backups to each client with ease. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

The speed of being able to boot up a VM either locally or in the cloud. This is great when needing to test a VM or restore a failed server. We had a client back up and running in 30 minutes after a server died.

Each backup can be configured to boot a VM in the cloud and email a screenshot at the login screen of the server. This is great for troubleshooting any boot issues with the operating system. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

The menus can feel a bit cluttered but it's not that big a deal once you get used to where everything is. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

They have great support and a great sales team. We have had account managers come to clients sites with us to help show the benefits of the product. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Small business clients are no longer having to swap or take backup media offsite themselves. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

Datto allows you to create a full image backup, as it allows you to restore virtual machines when a server fails, either to run locally on a backup server or in the cloud. When it comes to reports, Datto performs great as a Backup Report page displaying information by from Screenshots, forced backups and scheduled backups. Actually, the screenshot verification feature is able to capture and restore points created by the relevant agent. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

If you choose a smaller Datto device, you may experience overheating on some units, as they don’t have a built-in fan. Also, Datto can have a bad performance if the bandwidth is not good enough, affecting the capacity of the device, because the points marked cannot be removed with retention and backup devices can be charged for this. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Datto is a reliable tool because it includes a great number of business continuity capabilities. The costs faced by every company due to viruses, human error, and problems with servers compared to Datto's costs, are clear. That’s what I think every company with data must have a Datto period. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Datto is our organization tool to support Windows and Linux servers. The products are the easiest to configure and maintain that I have ever used. A single-entry solution for all their products makes it very easy to automate my business. We value Datto especially for its commercial sustainability functions, which allows our clients to be covered and resolve problems they may face in a timely manner when they have a disaster scenario. What do you like best?

Datto SIRIS can perfectly work as a full protection for every business. The UI is very simple to use, and it offers several different options for restoration. Besides, it comes with some automatic backup tests, that will generate virtual machines from your cloud backups and send email alerts of the bootage process. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

The big downside of Datto device is price, that may be too expensive for most companies. Even though I think Datto SIRIS works great, I would like to see stronger outcomes. Datto SIRIS always operates within the boundaries of its system, but I think it could be captured in fixing issues throughout other environments. Datto customers operates on Windows tasks, but the help group has constraints on how they solve these situations. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

To Any business that worries about the failures in hardware and other sort of errors, I would recommend to install Datto SIRIS. After some years of experience, my organization uses and recommends all Datto alternatives, especially Datto SIRIS. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Datto SIRIS is the main storage tool we use in my company. It was first implemented in the IT department as a test to its performance, but it rapidly was extended to the whole company due to its great results. From the day one we implemented Datto SIRIS, it has always focused its efforts on helping us to develop, and allowing us to provide protection for all of our servers, depending on the size of the client requires. What do you like best?

It covers all information held in the cloud and in the server, so we know it's always safe. The PSA part of the tool is fantastic as well. Although this feature should not fully substitute manual backup trials, checking the integrity of backups and virtualizing servers is still very helpful. Also, Datto SIRIS is quick to virtualize servers, supports it. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

Datto SIRIS is not as effective as possible when you try to move data to the cloud. If you put backups in the cloud queue, they are not released on their own, but you need to await the transfer of the entire package. The safety of the user's account is not sufficient as 2FA does not exist in this platform at this time. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

For small companies with restricted IT assets and a for autonomous specialist, Datto SIRIS is highly recommended. In SMEs with small IT companies and with small budgets, it will provide some great results. It's a good alternative to simple backups with tape drives or internal disks and do not fail if the server disconnects for whatever reason. They will not have any difficulty in applying a Datto backup, as the devices are quite simple to configure. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

In my company, we use Datto SIRIS in the fields of RMM and BCDR. It also provides a phenomenal marketing alternative that can assist you to move into the market whether via social media or via e-mail. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

The Datto SIRIS RoundTrip service is an internal Datto drive that enables greater data transfers to the Datto Cloud in matter of minutes. Besides, it offers a wide range of restoration alternatives: VHD download, individual files and virtualization in general. I definitely feel Datto It is a one-stop shop that monitors all your invoices, products and from start to end. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

As much as I'd like to have access to many more modules, Datto SIRIS is a bit costly for our company. Also, I think there are insufficient reports that are helpful for compliance and the activity carried out by a user on a device, the restorations carried out, and the updates in the configuration must be recorded. When it comes to the support, I feel that, while there are enough individuals to receive assistance, it is not as proactive as I'd like. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Any serious company needs a backup alternative, and there is nothing better than Datto SIRIS. The perfect scenario for Datto SIRIS would be for a big enterprise with complex backup needs. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I lost my computer files which were stored on the server, and I only was able to return corrupted files to the server by using Datto SIRIS . Since then, I have blindly trusted this amazing tool. It comes with a unit that works as a BCDR tool which enables a server to be activated rapidly in different cloud settings. Datto covers most of the backup requirements for our entire company Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

“We use the Datto SIRIS 3 to backup our entire environment. You can restore from the file level, bare metal, plus in emergencies, you can virtualize a server that’s gone dead while you’re waiting on repair from the local NAS appliance. Then you add cloud replication into the mix and it’ll take the end of the world to lose your data. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

Datto's interface is incredibly easy to use that has never left me searching for information. Datto has included a very robust knowledge base which covers any topic that I have found myself looking into. Several fail-safes have been included in the interface to prevent accidental data deletion which can prove quite helpful when sifting through multiple restore points. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

Our vendor and Datto corporate seem to operate on a disconnect. This has seldom caused issues but it is a bit odd to get duplicate calls or emails that seem to be intended for someone else. I understand that this is likely outside of Datto or my reseller's individual control but it can grow tiresome. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

While Datto may not be the cheapest solution it is incredibly easy to jump into and have scale from endpoint to server. Since on-boarding our data limits have done nothing but expand so I am inclined to think this will keep pace Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Datto has become our sole backup solution due to their ease of use and off-site replication. While there are many ways to achieve what we have realized, Datto allows us to have a competent solution with very few "moving parts" or expensive SAN solutions. While we have seldom had to rely on the restore functionality the times when it has been called upon have proven to be very smooth experiences. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

Datto is an excellent backup and disaster recovery software. It works with two components, which is a physical backup server that's local and from this one the data is transfer to the cloud. The management interface to access backups settings and to perform restores is very user friendly. It does full image backups, which is its best feature, since it allows to do virtual machines restores when servers fail, either to run locally on the backup server or on the cloud. That makes it one of the best business continuity tools there is, that minimizes the recovery time when there's a disaster emergency. And it can also be used as an effective tool to mitigate the effects of ransomware, since the recovery points taken are not affected and can be used to recover data after an attack. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

The cloud transfer is not as efficient as it could be. If the bandwidth is not good enough the backups going to the cloud are queued and at that point they don't get released individually, just as a whole package of backups queued. On the other hand, support could be better. They might take too long to resolve issues because they limit their research based on the environment of the customer. They don't understand enough that they should be more knowledgeable and involved on understanding the customer's environment, considering that some Windows tools and components might affect the way their agent works. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

When getting a local appliance is important to understand that the size is not about the current data of the machines you're going to back up. You have to consider as well that each new backup taken in the schedule will add the amount of space used in the local appliance, so the appliance size should be double of the amount of data you currently have. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

The business continuity feature is the best there is. Being able to virtualize a server when it fails in just a few minutes and having the freedom and time to decide what to do next, whether you need to get a new hardware or talk to a provider to assist in troubleshooting, it makes your life easier. What do you like best?

Datto is easy to setup and get started. It takes some work to get clients ready to go, but once they are ready, they are easy to maintain. The Round Trip service is great for loading the off-site cloud backup with out killing your internet connection. The ease of them sending you a drive, loading your data in a couple of clicks, and sending back to Datto is so easy and the fact they include it is even better. Being able to spin up the machines on the Datto itself is a huge plus as well. This makes a hardware crash quick and easy to get back up and running while waiting for parts! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

Setting up a client the first time is time consuming and requires downtime. If the core back up is messed up, you will have to go through these steps again and probably order a new round trip. It can throw you off for a week on your backups with you have a small misstep. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Use the Academy training. It is free and makes use of the system so much easier once you go through it. It is broken up into short segments to make it easy to squeeze in between projects. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Datto is a good back up solution and provides your off site solution as well. The ability to spin up servers on the Datto is a huge plus. I have used it as a P2V function because it works so well. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Backing up critical data for managed customers. It has eliminated downtime due to hardware failures of the physical servers. I love how easy it is to work with, it will even allow you to boot a vm of the machine on the backup device or in the cloud. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

Lack of application aware backups, only performs block level backups so if there is an issue with the file system of the device being backed up your data is not as secure as you would like to believe. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

While I've had many good experiences with Datto backups, I have had more than one instance where something I know should have been backed up was unrecoverable. In one case an entire drive was backed up with a file system level issue for a month without any indication that the data was unusable until I went to do a restore. the only saving grace was that the data stored on that drive was consolidated from other sources so we were able to manually re-collect it from the original locations Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

As an MSP we rely on backups to secure our clients data, I have used Datto to recover servers that have had disk failures, as well as malicious attacks (ie. crypto, intentional deletion of files, etc) Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

While we've never needed to restore an entire server, there have been a few times where we needed to restore a folder or document. From how we've used it so far, I would say the thing we like best is the ability to restore data effortlessly. Although, the ability to spin up an entire server quickly, and how intuitive it appears to do so, may be the best features of Datto. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

There have been instances where we had to view a server's contents further back than the snapshots offered. I'm not sure if it's a limitation of Datto and understand that it's not practical to maintain excessive archives or backups, but this is really the only thing that I've sought from Datto that Datto couldn't do. It's really been such an awesome tool and service otherwise. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Disaster recovery and business continuity, obviously. We have realized that maintaining our backups in the cloud, as well as the replications of those backups on physical servers, is vital towards the sustainability of any organization. Not to mention, it's so much easier and secure (and a million other reasons) better than the physical tapes solution we were using. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
