All-in-one solution software that is solid, robust and full-featured. We were looking for an alternative to both PcLaw (Accounting) and Amicus Attorney (CRM, file management and document assembly). Cosmolex replaced them both and more. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Reporting options and reporting formatting need improvement; Otherwise, not much to dislike; a few quirks (default tabs that I wish I could change, a little bit more intuitive way to bill multiple parties or different parties in a matter, allocating a single time entry to multiple lawyers). I like that I can record time and disbursements without having to make an invoice right away.

I also really like, that if I have a problem I can easily search for help in the help center or talk to someone on the live chat.

I like the setup of everything. Bank Reconciliations are so easy and I like the layout. I like that I can create a deposit slip. I like the accounts payable and being able to save recurring bills.

I dislike the random glitches...

The client file is all balanced but the generated report says an outstanding $0.01

When posting accounts there's a $0.01 glitch, so sometimes we have to do a discount of $0.01

Sometimes it is hard to delete a duplicate client. It'll say "Something went wrong" and then I can't delete that duplicate client at all. The same thing happens sometimes to delete a Chart of Accounts.

I wish there was a way to avoid duplicates or amalgamate clients together.

I wish when you're in all matters and working on an individual file when you go back... I wish it would go back and be on the file you're working on. For example, I'm posting an account, then depositing money but oops there's no trust account attached to the file. I have to go back to All Matters and search the file I was working on. It keeps track of the file numbers and automatically assigns the correct number to clients that have multiple files. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

It is an administrative assistant's nightmare - the calendar is the worst. It does not allow an administrative assistant to see appointments made by others. The program forces administrative assistants to work for it rather than the program working for the administrative assistants. It is slow and convoluted - there shouldn't be 3 different locations I have to remember to enter a simple disbursement based on what type of disbursement it is. Constantly having to edit profiles because the system rearranges names to its liking, not as we need them. My god, the system is SLOW, CLUNKY, and FRUSTRATING. Cosmolex has an easy way to archive files and open new files. My lawyer has several different rates so having the ability to set different values for her makes billing a lot easier. I appreciate the ability to sort e-mails based on the files like I can in Outlook and generating reports is very easy and straightforward. The various filters make finding specific entries easy and entering accounting information is quick and easy. I love the dashboard and tasks as they both help me stay on top of overdue invoices and upcoming file work. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Editing timesheets and bills is frustrating because if I catch a typo in the description and try to change the entry in a bill it rejects saying I cannot change the GST amount even though the description has nothing to do with the GST. I have to remove the entry from the invoice, save it, go back and edit the entry, then put it back in the invoice. The use of HTML is very unfriendly to people unfamiliar with it and I have had to save several documents with source codes based on what invoice I am generating and often have to edit the invoice in PDF anyway because the generated invoice cuts off part of the date or there are too many unnecessary spaces. We frequently get e-mails from past clients after the file is closed and it is frustrating that I cannot tag e-mails into closed files without opening them again. The best thing about CosmoLex is its responsiveness to any issues that arise. They respond in a timely manner and have always had the right person to answer the question. If an expert is required they have that too! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

They have grown so I no longer know all the different help technicians. I used to enjoy talking to the ones I knew! In regard to the platform itself, I think the email integration still needs some work. I also think that there are some accounting issues that I wish were more flexible. Being cloud-based makes it very easy to use anywhere! My dockets have never been so up to date. Free access for my bookkeeper also makes sure that my accounting is straight at no extra cost. Customer support has always been excellent, but the program is quite user-friendly, and I've never looked back since leaving clunky PC Law! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I suppose that if I had to list one negative aspect, it would be that to have additional lawyers docket in the program, they have to have a full subscription of their own. For larger firms, this could get very costly. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

The task management and document sharing are awful. The task management system/workflows are unuseable for us. We have to utilize another program, Asana, for that purpose. The use of a separate program wouldn't be the end of the world if there was at least a good integration but that doesn't exist either. The document sharing to the client portal is tedious. It is very easy to use, but if I'm not sure about something I can either check the help/support button for a very comprehensive list of topics and answers, or I can chat with a representative online and I am directed on how to use the software by that person in real time. My questions have always been answered quickly through the live chat function. I also really love the documents tab. I upload my trial documents into the folders and can easily access them during trial from my iPad, so I don't need to print of hundreds of pages of documents. I would like to see a cumulative billable hours feature within each client's matter. The unpaid, unbilled, operating and trust fund totals are helpful, but when I'm doing a file that has a maximum number of billable hours (for example, a Legal Aid Alberta file, which always comes with a maximum number of hours per certificate), it would help to know when I am getting close to that number (without having to generate an invoice) so I know if I need to request authorization for more hours. The reports are also very comprehensive but sometimes I struggle with figuring out exactly what report meets the criteria I am trying to look at so the reports are not quite as user friendly to learn quickly as the rest of the software and more "basic" features.
