The initial setup of Control D was incredibly straightforward, taking only one minute, highlighting its user-friendly design. I also value how Control D seamlessly integrates with other tools such as MDM and various cybersecurity products, enhancing my security infrastructure. Switching from Cisco Umbrella to Control D has been a smooth transition due to its efficient setup process and comprehensive capabilities in navigating bad DNS configurations. **What do you dislike about ControlD?** Rulesets are a bit abstracted but not a major complaint. **What problems is ControlD solving and how is that benefiting you?** I use Control D for DNS security, helping navigate bad DNS configurations and securing endpoints effectively. It's easy to configure and deploy, supporting integration with MDM and other cybersecurity products. ### 2. Best DNS platform I ever used **Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars **Reviewed by:** Verified User in Telecommunications | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.) **Reviewed Date:** September 01, 2023 **What do you like best about ControlD?** Onboarding was exteremely easy, deployed ControlD on ~80 devices in a matter of minutes (with some basic API scripting). UI is very easy to understand, and looks rather unique relative to other DNS services I used before (dnsfilter, umbrealla). Despite the simplicity of the UI, the features are quite powerful. Not doing anything revoluntary, just blocking malware, social networks, and porn, and it works great. Fiddinling with their "redirection" feature which masks the IP of the client from various services, its pretty cool, but have yet to find a use case for it except for some of our marketing folks that really love it because they don't need to use a VPN anymore. **What do you dislike about ControlD?** Pretty much nothing. The Analytics feature could use some improvement to provide better insights, but I spoke to Yegor and it's already on their roadmap. **What problems is ControlD solving and how is that benefiting you?** We wanted to block malicious domains from resolving, pretty standard stuff. Additionally block some time wasting services so people actually get some work done :) Also gain visibility on what things are being accessed by our staff and make sure we don't have any misbhevaing devices on our network that do things they shouldn't be doing. We use pfsense on the network and the DNS daemon they have works quite well, and was very easy to install - 1 command to copy/paste. ### 3. This is expected, but some people may not like having to whitelist sites that are blocked inadvertently. **What problems is ControlD solving and how is that benefiting you?** Blocks websites that children should not have access to, blocks ads and trackers on websites and restores some privacy to your internet usage. Everyone has a right to privacy online, but not everyone knows how to achieve it. ### 4. Before using ControlD, I struggled with unwanted content and distractions during my online sessions. With ControlD, I can block unwanted content, maintain my privacy, and focus on what matters most. It also allows me to access geo-restricted content and browse faster, which greatly enhances my online experience. ControlD saves me time, boosts my productivity, and gives me more control over my online activities. ### 5. The ability to block individual services is useful, which helps with productivity. For an additional fee, you can use the proxy option. As a developer, I appreciate the ability to overwrite records, making hosts files a thing of the past. **What do you dislike about ControlD?** Sometimes there are problems with fast updating blocking lists or long long latency from DNS. Instead, there is nothing that support is not willing to help with. **What problems is ControlD solving and how is that benefiting you?** With Control D, I block social media and services that distract me while I work.
