## About Cloudback
Cloudback is a type of repository backup and disaster recovery software that helps organizations automatically back up, retain, and restore source code repositories and their associated metadata across multiple development platforms. Cloudback is designed for software development teams, IT administrators, DevOps engineers, and organizations that rely on Git-based platforms to manage source code and collaboration workflows. It supports backups for GitHub, GitLab, and Azure DevOps environments, addressing operational risks such as accidental deletions, data corruption, security incidents, and platform outages. The product is used in scenarios that require long-term data retention, regulatory compliance, business continuity planning, and migration between version control platforms. Cloudback operates by connecting directly to supported source control platforms and performing scheduled backups of repositories and metadata. Backups can be stored either in customer-managed cloud storage environments or in Cloudback-managed storage, depending on organizational security and infrastructure requirements. The platform provides centralized backup management and recovery through a web-based interface. Core capabilities include: - Automated scheduled backups of repositories, branches, tags, and commit history - Backup of repository-related metadata such as issues, pull requests, releases, collaborators, and wikis - Support for Git Large File Storage (LFS) data - Manual and on-demand backup initiation - Restoration of repositories to supported platforms or download as archive files Cloudback is used by companies that require structured backup policies for development assets, including organizations with distributed engineering teams and regulated data environments. It supports use cases such as disaster recovery, off-platform data retention, platform migration, and internal audit preparation. Key functional and operational characteristics: - Platform coverage across GitHub, GitLab, and Azure DevOps - Storage flexibility through integration with third-party cloud storage providers or managed storage - Data encryption during transfer and at rest - Backup history tracking and retention control - Access management and activity logging Cloudback fits into the broader category of DevOps infrastructure tooling and data protection software. ## Cloudback Reviews
 ### 1. Exceptional Decoupled Storage and Auditable Snapshots for Compliance-Ready Archiving

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Wendy W. | GTM Strategy and Operations Advisor, Farming, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Current User:** The reviewer uploaded a screenshot or submitted the review in-app verifying them as current user.

**Validated Reviewer:** This review contains authentic analysis and has been reviewed by our team

**Source: Organic:** Organic review. This review was written entirely without invitation or incentive from G2, a seller, or an affiliate.

**Reviewed Date:** August 11, 2026

**What do you like best about Cloudback?**

The most impressive structural feature is their decentralized storage flexibility and the absolute separation of data control. Instead of locking our proprietary source code inside a secondary multi-tenant black box, Cloudback allows our security team to map backup destinations directly to our own corporate storage environments via secure AWS IAM roles and private S3 buckets.Furthermore, it captures the entire development ecosystem rather than just the raw Git history. It systematically packages and archives deep repository metadata—including developer wiki pages, issues, pull request threads, deployment releases, and project milestone logs—and preserves our Git Large File Storage (LFS) assets without any data corruption. This complete backup capability provides our compliance team with an ironclad, auditable archive that satisfies our annual SOC2 and ISO 27001 data-retention reviews perfectly.

**What do you dislike about Cloudback?**

The backup automation engine operates with exceptional reliability, but their administrative workspace notification filtering framework needs better granular refinement for large-scale operations. Currently, if a minor, low-priority test repository or a sandbox environment encounters a transient API rate-limit threshold error from the host platform, Cloudback triggers an immediate high-urgency system alert to our primary Slack and email integrations. We would highly appreciate a dashboard feature that allows us to set up conditional routing rules, enabling us to bundle low-priority warnings into a single daily digest while reserving instantaneous, real-time alerts strictly for mission-critical production repository failures. This would significantly reduce notification fatigue for our on-call infrastructure teams.

**What problems is Cloudback solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Our engineering division was tasked with meeting a strict regulatory data governance mandate that required us to maintain cold, air-gapped backups of our intellectual property outside of our active GitHub and GitLab organizational accounts. Relying strictly on a single cloud version control host left us vulnerable to single-point system outages, malicious developer credential compromises, and accidental workspace deletions that could halt our entire product deployment pipeline.Cloudback completely solved this business continuity risk for our organization. By automating deeply nested, schedule-driven background snapshots across more than 150 critical active repositories, it ensures our full code tree and multi-branch commit histories are permanently backed up. This automated infrastructure frees our DevOps and site reliability engineers from wasting hours writing and debugging custom shell scripts or manual cron jobs, allowing our engineering sprints to stay 100% focused on shipping consumer-facing features.

 ### 2. BYOS + RSA Lockbox Made Compliance Easy—with Fair Per-Repository Pricing

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jakub Z. | Chief Marketing Officer, Information Technology and Services, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 10, 2026

**What do you like best about Cloudback?**

The “Bring Your Own Storage” (BYOS) architecture has been an absolute game-changer for meeting our infrastructure compliance requirements. We can seamlessly route our encrypted backup data directly into our own private Amazon S3 buckets, while still managing our own encryption keys through their RSA Lockbox feature. I also find the pricing structure incredibly fair, since they charge strictly per repository rather than by administrative seat licenses. That approach lets us give dashboard visibility to our entire auditing and management team without taking on massive, unnecessary subscription costs.

**What do you dislike about Cloudback?**

The platform is exceptionally reliable overall, but the automated email notification system can feel a bit noisy when we’re managing bulk repository configurations. For example, if a single minor repository sync hits a temporary API rate-limit hiccup, it immediately triggers a warning notification. We’d love to see more granular notification grouping options in the dashboard so we can consolidate these alerts into a single daily summary email, instead of receiving separate, real-time messages for each small issue.

**What problems is Cloudback solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We manage dozens of sensitive software repositories on GitHub, and we were struggling to maintain strict data residency compliance for our internal SOC2 audits. Standard Git history isn’t enough; we needed to ensure all associated data and metadata—including issues, pull requests, and webhooks—were securely archived off-platform. Cloudback fully automates this disaster recovery process by continuously running scheduled daily backups in the background. That lets our engineering teams write code freely without worrying that an accidental workspace deletion or a source control platform outage will disrupt our deployment timelines.

 ### 3. Simple Setup, Reliable Automation, and a Clear Audit Trail for Compliance

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mark B. | Software Release Architect & Database Engineer, Computer Software, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 07, 2026

**What do you like best about Cloudback?**

The simplicity of setup and the reliability of automation stand out. Even temporary staff can understand how to monitor jobs without needing deep technical knowledge, and the system scales well when workloads increase. Having a clear audit trail also gives us confidence that data is accounted for, which is important when dealing with compliance requirements.

**What do you dislike about Cloudback?**

While the platform has been dependable overall, the reporting still feels somewhat limited. It would be helpful to have more customizable dashboards, along with exportable reports that clearly break down performance trends over time. Having that level of detail would make it much easier to share insights with stakeholders and use the data to plan future improvements.

**What problems is Cloudback solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Cloudback has helped us bring order to what used to be a messy, inconsistent backup process. During peak times, we were constantly worried about whether repositories were being captured correctly. With Cloudback in place, backups now run automatically and consistently, which has reduced the risk of missed jobs and removed a lot of manual oversight from our team’s plate. Overall, it’s made day-to-day operations feel much less stressful.

 ### 4. Dependable backup automation that gives peace of mind

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Constantina M. | Financial Solutions Advisor, Financial Services, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 03, 2026

**What do you like best about Cloudback?**

What I like most is the simplicity of configuration combined with the dependability of automation, because setting up policies is straightforward, the interface is clean and intuitive, and monitoring backup jobs is easy enough that even non-technical team members can understand what’s happening, which makes the entire process feel less like a chore and more like a seamless part of our infrastructure.

**What do you dislike about Cloudback?**

Overall, my experience has been very positive, but if I had to mention one area for improvement it would be the reporting features, because having more exportable and customizable reports would make it easier to share backup status with stakeholders and provide additional visibility into long-term trends.

**What problems is Cloudback solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Before using Cloudback, our backup process was scattered across different tools and manual schedules, which often left us worried about whether critical data was being captured consistently, but since adopting Cloudback we’ve been able to centralize everything into one reliable system that automatically handles backups without requiring constant oversight, and this has not only reduced the risk of missing scheduled backups but also improved our overall operational efficiency by freeing up time that used to be spent double-checking logs and manually verifying jobs.

 ### 5. Reliable Full Project Recovery When Things Go Wrong

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Victoria B. | Director of Operations, Hospitality, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 12, 2026

**What do you like best about Cloudback?**

Having a reliable way to recover an entire project—not just the code—if something goes wrong. When a repository was accidentally force-pushed in the wrong direction, we were able to bring back the previous state without scrambling through local clones or old archives.

**What do you dislike about Cloudback?**

Restore times for very large repositories with heavy LFS content can still feel lengthy. Acceptable for disaster recovery, but not ideal if you need a quick partial recovery during the workday.

**What problems is Cloudback solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We no longer treat GitHub as the single source of truth that can never fail. Knowing we can restore both history and collaboration data has reduced the anxiety around big refactors and cleanup operations. It also makes platform-migration discussions less risky.

 ### 6. Complete Git Restores with Collaboration Context in One Process

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** John C. | Director of Sales, Computer Software, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 19, 2026

**What do you like best about Cloudback?**

It covers both the Git history and the surrounding collaboration data in one process. Restores feel more complete than recovering code alone, which matters when project context is as important as the source files.

**What do you dislike about Cloudback?**

Pricing scales with repository count, so unused or archived projects need periodic review to avoid unnecessary cost. A clearer “archive / exclude” workflow would make that housekeeping easier.

**What problems is Cloudback solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As the number of repositories grew, so did the risk surface. Automated coverage across the portfolio has given us confidence that we are not relying on individual developers’ local clones or ad-hoc exports. Planning for platform migrations has also become less daunting.

 ### 7. A Reliable Safety Net with Independent Backups

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Alessandra R. | Enfermeira Docente Senac RJ, Higher Education, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 17, 2026

**What do you like best about Cloudback?**

It gives us a reliable safety net when repositories are restructured or when someone accidentally force-pushes. Having independent copies outside the primary platform has already prevented one painful recovery situation.

**What do you dislike about Cloudback?**

Very large monorepos still take noticeable time for the first full backup. Subsequent incremental runs are much faster, but the initial pass needs to be scheduled thoughtfully.

**What problems is Cloudback solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We treat Git history and collaboration data as critical assets. Before this, recovery options were limited to what the host platform offered or what individuals had locally. Independent backups have reduced risk during major refactors and made platform changes less stressful.

 ### 8. Time-Saving Automation and an Intuitive Backup Dashboard

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Peggy J. | Product Manager, Information Technology and Services, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Current User:** The reviewer uploaded a screenshot or submitted the review in-app verifying them as current user.

**Reviewed Date:** July 22, 2026

**What do you like best about Cloudback?**

The automation features save me time, and the dashboard makes it simple to keep an eye on backup status. Overall, the platform feels intuitive, even for team members who don’t specialize in backup management, so it’s easy for everyone to stay on top of things.

**What do you dislike about Cloudback?**

Everything has worked well for our needs so far. That said, I’d really welcome more customization options for the dashboard views to make them better fit how we work.

**What problems is Cloudback solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We wanted to strengthen our backup strategy while keeping manual intervention to a minimum. Cloudback has helped us automate routine backup tasks and has increased our confidence that we can recover data when needed.

 ### 9. Centralized Management with Strong Client Data Boundaries

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Christopher D. | Sales Executive, Logistics and Supply Chain, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 24, 2026

**What do you like best about Cloudback?**

We can protect client repositories under separate configurations while still managing them from one place. That reduces operational overhead without mixing client data boundaries.

**What do you dislike about Cloudback?**

Keeping client-specific retention and access rules accurate takes ongoing attention, especially when team members move between projects or change roles.

**What problems is Cloudback solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Client offboarding and long-term archive requests used to feel risky, because if access was revoked too early it could lead to permanent loss. With consistent external backups in place, those transitions are much cleaner, and we now have a clear, defined recovery option when we need it.

 ### 10. Single-View Protection Across Client Repos, with Cleanly Separated Restores

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Keeyah X. | Responsable Pôle Santé, Education Management, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 19, 2026

**What do you like best about Cloudback?**

We can protect repositories across different client organisations from a single management view while keeping the data and restore targets cleanly separated. That reduces operational overhead when handling many external projects.

**What do you dislike about Cloudback?**

Permission boundaries between client organisations need ongoing attention when team members move between projects. A clearer visual map of access relationships would help.

**What problems is Cloudback solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Client handovers and archive situations used to carry risk of permanent loss if access was revoked too early. Standardised backups across projects have made transitions cleaner and given us a clearer recovery option if something is deleted prematurely.

 ### 11. Repeatable Configuration That Runs Smoothly with Minimal Manual Work

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Scott B. | Chief Legal Officer, Computer Software, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 18, 2026

**What do you like best about Cloudback?**

Configuration can be managed in a repeatable way and fits into our existing infrastructure practices. Once the policies and storage targets are set, the daily work largely runs without manual intervention.

**What do you dislike about Cloudback?**

Failed jobs caused by temporary API limits still need manual review in some cases. Better automatic retry classification for transient errors would reduce the need to check the dashboard.

**What problems is Cloudback solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We no longer maintain custom scripts for repository backups. That has removed a recurring maintenance burden and given us more consistent coverage across all active projects, including metadata that scripts often skipped.

 ### 12. Secure Off-Platform Backups That Strengthen Our Recovery Plan

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Nikkesh S. | Growth and Marketing Manager (Co-Founder), Hospital & Health Care, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 13, 2026

**What do you like best about Cloudback?**

The ability to keep backup copies outside the primary platform’s control plane. That separation gives us a practical recovery path if the main account or organization is compromised or locked.

**What do you dislike about Cloudback?**

Managing retention policies across dozens of repositories still requires more manual attention than we would like. A bulk policy editor for groups of repos would reduce repetitive work.

**What problems is Cloudback solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Accidental deletions and insider mistakes used to be difficult to reverse cleanly. With regular independent backups we can recover specific projects without relying solely on the host platform’s own recovery tools or support tickets.

 ### 13. Metadata-Rich Backups That Preserve Project Context and Collaboration History

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** George B. | Head of Technical Operations, Computer Software, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 24, 2026

**What do you like best about Cloudback?**

It captures more than just the Git objects—project context and collaboration history are included in a way that makes restores more useful when institutional knowledge is incomplete.

**What do you dislike about Cloudback?**

The value of metadata-rich backups becomes obvious only after you need them. Until then it can feel like quiet insurance rather than an active daily tool.

**What problems is Cloudback solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Key people leave and tribal knowledge disappears. Having a more complete external archive has reduced the cost of reconstructing both code and the surrounding decisions when older work needs to be revisited.

 ### 14. Scalable Coverage Across Repositories with Minimal Maintenance

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Machet A. | Strategic Planning and Logistics Department Manager, Mechanical or Industrial Engineering, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 21, 2026

**What do you like best about Cloudback?**

Coverage scales across many repositories without us having to maintain custom jobs for each one. New projects can be brought under the same policy with relatively little extra work.

**What do you dislike about Cloudback?**

Inactive or archived repositories still consume capacity until they are explicitly excluded. Periodic housekeeping is needed to keep the scope accurate.

**What problems is Cloudback solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As the number of repositories grew, manual or script-based backup approaches became inconsistent. Standardized protection has closed gaps we only discovered when someone asked for an older project that was no longer easy to reconstruct.

 ### 15. Top Security

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Brandon K. | Chief Technology Officer, Computer Software, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Current User:** The reviewer uploaded a screenshot or submitted the review in-app verifying them as current user.

**Source: Organic:** Organic review. This review was written entirely without invitation or incentive from G2, a seller, or an affiliate.

**Reviewed Date:** August 21, 2026

**What do you like best about Cloudback?**

Backup destinations can be controlled through our own cloud accounts and IAM policies. That separation supports our requirement that critical code copies are not locked exclusively inside the development platform’s environment.

**What do you dislike about Cloudback?**

Permission and encryption settings require careful initial alignment with internal standards. Getting them wrong means rework, so involve security early.

**What problems is Cloudback solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We needed demonstrable independent custody of source and project data for internal security reviews. Pointing backups at storage we manage has made those conversations clearer and reduced reliance on a single vendor’s recovery guarantees.

 ### 16. Clean Platform–Backup Separation That Strengthens Recovery and Auditing

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Hans H. | Project Manager, Consulting, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 18, 2026

**What do you like best about Cloudback?**

The separation between the primary development platform and the backup storage location. That architectural boundary supports our recovery and audit requirements more cleanly than relying only on the host platform’s own tools.

**What do you dislike about Cloudback?**

Mapping complex organisation structures with many nested teams still requires careful initial setup. Getting the access and ownership model right up front avoids later rework.

**What problems is Cloudback solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We need demonstrable recovery capability for code and project history. Having independent, encrypted copies with clear retention controls has simplified evidence gathering for internal reviews and external audits.

 ### 17. Cross-Platform Restores Make Git Host Migrations Seamless

**Reviewed Date:** August 13, 2026

**What do you like best about Cloudback?**

Cross-platform restore options. Being able to move a project from one Git host to another without losing the associated issues and discussion history has already proven useful during a partial migration.

**What do you dislike about Cloudback?**

The first full backup of a large organization can take noticeable time and generate a lot of API activity. Planning the initial run outside peak hours is advisable.

**What problems is Cloudback solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We previously treated platform lock-in as inevitable. Having portable backups has given us more flexibility when evaluating tools and reduced the cost of changing providers for specific teams.

 ### 18. Quick Implementation, Easy Navigation, and Reliable Scheduled Backups

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jason W. | Digital Marketing Consultant, Information Technology and Services, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 24, 2026

**What do you like best about Cloudback?**

Implementation was quicker than I expected. The interface is straightforward and easy to navigate, and the scheduled backups have been consistently reliable so far.

**What do you dislike about Cloudback?**

My experience has been smooth overall. That said, it would be great to have a few more visualization tools, especially for viewing backup history and tracking storage usage more clearly.

**What problems is Cloudback solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We were looking for a dependable backup platform that wouldn’t need constant oversight, and Cloudback has been a solid fit. It’s helped us automate our backup workflows, which has made the process smoother overall and improved our data availability when we need it.

 ### 19. Client Project Isolation Makes Multi-Org Backups Simple

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Samantha R. | Senior Sales Executive, Insurance, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 14, 2026

**What do you like best about Cloudback?**

Client project isolation. We can back up multiple client organizations under one account while keeping the data and restore targets clearly separated. That simplifies our operational overhead.

**What do you dislike about Cloudback?**

Permission and access management for external collaborators still requires careful setup. A clearer permission matrix for multi-organization use would lower the chance of misconfiguration.

**What problems is Cloudback solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Previously each client engagement carried its own recovery risk. Standardized backups across projects have made handovers cleaner and reduced the chance of permanent loss when a repository is archived or access is revoked.

 ### 20. Quiet, Set-and-Forget Backups That Just Work

**What do you like best about Cloudback?**

It runs quietly in the background once configured. We set the schedules and storage targets, and the daily jobs largely take care of themselves without constant babysitting.

**What do you dislike about Cloudback?**

Visibility into storage growth over time is functional but basic. More proactive alerts when a repository’s backup size jumps unexpectedly would help catch issues earlier.

**What problems is Cloudback solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Protecting against both human error and platform-side incidents without building and maintaining our own backup scripts. The time saved on custom tooling has been redirected to higher-value platform work.
