## Cisco Umbrella Reviews
  ### 1. Reliable DNS-Level Protection Anywhere, with Windows Agent and Mobile App

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Aman A. | Senior Staff, Cybersecurity Architect, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 23, 2026

**What do you like best about Cisco Umbrella?**

It does what it states. Protection at a DNS level, it has its own agent for Windows and app for mobile. Where you are connected to office network or not, you are still protected. A great layer of defense on top of AV systems.

**What do you dislike about Cisco Umbrella?**

Cannot thick of anything. Just because you are working at a DNS layer. You need to know what you are configuring to avoid any service disruption.

**What problems is Cisco Umbrella solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It adds defense in depth in our environment. This way we are not just relying on AV. It also adds great visibility in the AI world where everyone wants to access all the AI websites out there. Also they are pretty fast in updating their database about new websites.

  ### 2. Proactive Security and Seamless Integration

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Dnyanesh M. | Senior Secops Engineer, Security and Investigations, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 05, 2026

**What do you like best about Cisco Umbrella?**

I really appreciate Cisco Umbrella for its proactive nature in blocking DNS hits to malicious websites. It does a wonderful job by maintaining a list of malicious links and promptly blocking them when an unaware employee clicks on such links. This feature is very proactive and helps safeguard our organization from malicious exposure. I also find the DNS management aspect impressive, as Cisco handles all the technical parts, making it easy for us to just plug the solution into our endpoints and ensure everything is safeguarded. The onboarding process was pretty straightforward with neat documentation, and using the cloud-based solution made it perfect and easy to deploy. I must say, I rate it 10 out of 10 for recommendations.

**What do you dislike about Cisco Umbrella?**

There was a lack of AI innovation in Cisco Umbrella. When I was using it, there was no AI in that solution. That's something they can improve on. FYI I used cisco unbrella from 2021 to early 2025. They may have improved in this space in last 2 year.

**What problems is Cisco Umbrella solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Cisco Umbrella secures DNS by managing blacklist and malicious website lists, saving us the complexity and cost of doing it manually. It proactively blocks threats, safeguarding our employees from malicious exposure with ease of setup and integration into our systems.

  ### 3. Straightforward Policy Creation with Templates Across Cloud Proxy and Prisma

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Subhajji S. | SOC Admin, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 09, 2026

**What do you like best about Cisco Umbrella?**

Creating policies using templates is straightforward. You can create user-based policies that apply on the cloud proxy, and you can do the same on Prisma as well.

**What do you dislike about Cisco Umbrella?**

The Umbrella selected proxy feature felt unreliable. It sometimes allows URL access, but other times it blocks the same URLs, and we couldn’t whitelist them. We got stuck in that situation.

**What problems is Cisco Umbrella solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Cloud proxy with URL blocking and whitelisting, helping safeguard the environment over a VPN network.

  ### 4. Great product for DNS Security and intrinsic component for Cisco's Zero Trust - SASE infrastructure.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tejas J. | Network Security Architect, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 11, 2025

**What do you like best about Cisco Umbrella?**

Implemented Cisco Umbrella as our de-facto DNS security solution for outbound internet traffic. Saw immediate wins, by seeing drastic reduction in number of the DNS requests towards crypto mining sites, CnC sites. Helped enforce domain based filtering, providing domain reputation scores (which fed into TPRM assessments) for partners. Ease of use (all you need to do is configure Cisco Umbrella as DNS forwarder) .Easy to implement as all you need to do is configure the Cisco Umbrella anycast IPs as DNS forwarder. Cisco's customer support is proactive, however there are typically no issues considering the platform is fairly stable. The domain whitelisting / re-categorization turn around time is typically quick between 24-36 hours, for most of the cases we had. Easy to integrate with Cisco SIG, easy to implement the Cisco VAs, on different form factors - vSphere / AWS cloud, etc.

**What do you dislike about Cisco Umbrella?**

There is no integration between Cisco Umbrella with third party next generation firewalls such as Palo Alto firewalls / Prisma Access or Fortinet firewalls, which implies that the encrypted channel established between Cisco Virtual Appliances (VAs) and Umbrella cloud cannot be decrypted if SSL decryption is enabled on the perimeter firewall.

**What problems is Cisco Umbrella solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Securing DNS for both data center, cloud workloads and users in the corporate offices and remote users - roaming clients. Helped implement a uniform security posture for users and workloads irrespective of the location. Integrated with Cisco Talos which ensures real time threat intel feeds.

  ### 5. Powerful Threat Management, Needs Better Search Functionality

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** MANI CHANDRA T. | Analyst, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 24, 2026

**What do you like best about Cisco Umbrella?**

I like Cisco Umbrella because its interface is neat and makes finding options easy. It's also straightforward to block things globally. Plus, it's easy to set up.

**What do you dislike about Cisco Umbrella?**

Search options need to be improved since I can't search the required URLs easily. Smarter filtering options like user + device + location together would help.

**What problems is Cisco Umbrella solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Cisco Umbrella to block malicious domains and URLs, check on malicious URL clicks, and access reports on high phishing links, enhancing our cyber team's security.

  ### 6. Nice, Clear and easy to use for web filtering ,

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Oil & Energy | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 13, 2023

**What do you like best about Cisco Umbrella?**

We are using Cisco Umbrella to integrate with SD-WAN Edge devices to provide cloud based security. This helps us to layoff the security analysis and logs storage responsibilities from the SD-WAN Edge routers. One use-case of Cisco Umbrella usage is to integrate using manual IPSEC Tunnels and the other use-case is to implement auto IPSEC tunnels using APIs. The third use-case of using Cisco Umbrella is for a DNS Security where the internet bound traffic is routed towards Cisco Umbrella first for the security assessments. Once the device is integrated using any of these use-cases, we can implement the policies from the Umbrella portal for carrying out the desired level of security hardening.

In my opinion, Cisco Umbrella is a pretty cool cloud based security service that can help enterprises to meet their cyber readiness and security compliance.

**What do you dislike about Cisco Umbrella?**

Use of new APIs for auto SIG Tunnels is not working
The Cisco Umbrella logs on vManage are not displaying the detailed information

**What problems is Cisco Umbrella solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It helps improve security visibility, detect compromised systems, and protect your users on and off the network by stopping threats over any port or protocol before they reach your network or endpoints

The reporting dashboards are intuitive and provide valuable insights into threat activity, allowing administrators to act quickly. Integration with other Cisco products also strengthens the overall security ecosystem and enhances visibility across the network.

**What do you dislike about Cisco Umbrella?**

While Cisco Umbrella is powerful, the pricing can be a barrier for smaller organizations, as costs increase with scale. Some advanced policy configurations require additional expertise to fine-tune properly. In addition, reporting customization could be more flexible to allow deeper drill-downs. Despite these points, the platform remains highly effective for enterprise-level protection.

**What problems is Cisco Umbrella solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Cisco Umbrella helps our organization block malicious domains at the DNS layer, reducing the risk of phishing, malware, and ransomware attacks before they ever reach users or endpoints. It also provides secure web gateway capabilities, ensuring that all internet-bound traffic is inspected and controlled, even for remote or roaming users. This has improved our overall security posture, minimized incidents, and simplified policy enforcement across distributed teams. The centralized dashboard also provides valuable insights and reporting, which saves time during investigations and compliance audits.

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Aman V. | Technical Trainer, Computer Software, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 05, 2024

**What do you like best about Cisco Umbrella?**

I think that it makes my job easier as someone who manages the network in my organisation, that i can query the DNS properly for all the computers connected in the network.

**What do you dislike about Cisco Umbrella?**

I would prefer if there were some changes into the UI and ease of access. It was kind of daunting to use it at first, as i found the learning curve to be quite steep.

**What problems is Cisco Umbrella solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We have an internal DNS Server in our company, and we mainly use the Cisco Umbrella to make sure that all the queries are protected. I also make sure to block certain known domains which might lead to malware or trackers to make sure that the computers in the network are not quering there, knowingly or unknowingly.

  ### 24. User Experience

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Education Management | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 22, 2024

**What do you like best about Cisco Umbrella?**

I like about the working of Cisco Umbrella. Nowadays Cyber attacks are very common and developers and companies are struggling to save their assets and Cisco comes up with the feature of protecting from cyber attacks. The gooththing is it blocks the request before anyone trying to connect with the different server.
Very ease of use, and it will always in the system so you don't need to manually do anything, ease of integration. Protect us from Malware, Ransomware, Phising and other attacks. Customer support and resolution is top-notch.

**What do you dislike about Cisco Umbrella?**

One thing I don't like is some-times it fails to load when we change the Wi-Fi address or change to other network. It might due to setting-up the internal parameters.

**What problems is Cisco Umbrella solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It is securing the gateways so that it is blocking from the fraud profilers. It provides the vast securities. It is very helpful for those whose primary focus on the developing, web gateways and DNS because it is protecting us from the wrong profiling.

  ### 25. An evaluation in which the benefits outweigh the harms. Satisfied with the Umbrella product.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 08, 2024

**What do you like best about Cisco Umbrella?**

I think Umbrella's DNS Security Essentials package is sufficient for general use. Other packages have many advantages and benefits, but most features other than umbrella's DNS filtering feature are available in different products. Different products are currently used. I think it is easier to sell the DNS Security Essentials package at a more affordable price to convince companies.

The product works smoothly in large structures. After giving the necessary permissions according to our current structure, we can set our customized rules and use them directly.

Log tracking is also done very well. Thanks to AWS integration (Cisco Cloud Security App), it can be integrated with many SIEM products.

If I had to rate the DNS Security Essentials package in terms of price and performance, I would say 8/10.

**What do you dislike about Cisco Umbrella?**

I did not like the package distribution of the product according to its features. Additionally, it only takes a long time to define large networks during the first installation. The fact that we cannot sign our certificate with our own CA and import it into the umbrella in the DNS Security Essentials package is a bit of a bad feature.

**What problems is Cisco Umbrella solving and how is that benefiting you?**

When there are problems in the network, the DNS Filtering feature of the product makes it easier for us to understand which layer is the problem.

It works well against C2 Calls.

As of now didn't found anything but it varies from user to user in the context of configuration and implementation

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Gerardo H. | Ingeniero Consultor, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 01, 2023

**What do you like best about Cisco Umbrella?**

Incredible fast and easy to use, you can connect almost any Cisco Secure product to Umbrella and get the extra layer protection that it brings. Many solutions can just connect automatically through an API, others can connect using a secure tunnel but once you get connected you can start pushing security policies to your end users. The way that you can block requests from the DNS and not from the GET HTTP helps you to discover threats before any other connectivity.

**What do you dislike about Cisco Umbrella?**

In recent versions there are some problems with SSL/TLS connection, some clients cannot connect to common use pages although it's allowed on policies, the majority of cases it is just configuration problems like Root CA installation, but others it's just impossible to connect many of them using TLS 1.3.

**What problems is Cisco Umbrella solving and how is that benefiting you?**

When we purchased Umbrella we were looking for a replacement for some Proxy servers, at the beginning we didn't believe on Umbrella as a good option for HTTP Proxy but We saw SIG capabilities like Web policies, TLS decryption and Tunnel Gateway and changed our minds. After some tests We though it was a really good replacement for the old proxy server, and the best part all is managed on the cloud so we didn't deploy a new appliance on our Datacenter.

We found Umbrella DNS protection quite an excellent product as long as dns protection is all that you seek.

For example- the ability to use private IP was not possible, which causes a security risk when you want to restrict access to online services from specific trusted locations and sources.
