## Canopy Reviews
 ### 1. Lots of Useful Features but Still Missing Key Ones

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sarah V. | Firm Administrator, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 19, 2025

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

I like that it offers a diverse set of functions so you can do more all in one place and on one platform. I also equally like that the Canopy development team is continuously adding to its features, creating new ones, and listening to its users to help make it better. Continuous improvements are essential in our technically evolving world.

I also like that when they add new features, you can comment on their post about it and they'll work to resolve any issues users find when new features come out (beta or regular).

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

There are some things that I feel should have been standard from the start that were not. For example, being able to select the recipient, or multiple recipients, to receive an invoice (July 2026, this is now fixed). And, being able to specify which contacts can see which folders or documents on the client portal. Those are already options in other similar software.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

They are working on being able to specify what folders contacts can see on the client portal. This is essential. When we found out this was not currently an option during earlier stages of implementation, we almost bailed on it. That's how important this feature is. The two programs we used prior allowed this, we we never thought it could possibly not be available.

 ### 2. Templates That Streamline Workflows and Scale Our Accounting Firm

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Adam H. | Owner/Accountant, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 28, 2026

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

The concept of templates makes repeatable processes far more efficient while still delivering a consistent client experience. Canopy has built templates into essentially every step of the workflow, which helps accounting firms scale more effectively. Sending engagement letters now takes a few minutes instead of an hour, and requesting documents is as simple as clicking a button. I also appreciate that Canopy continues to innovate. Many of their newer features will become very useful once they’re fully baked, and they should help our firm reduce the total number of applications we rely on and pay for.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

Like any software, it comes with its share of frustrations. Quite often, my pre-saved variables don’t work properly when I apply templates to engagements. On top of that, many of the newer features don’t function correctly for a long time after the Beta release, which makes it hard for me to test them in a meaningful way. The concept of “resolution” management is genuinely interesting, but it’s also incredibly cost-prohibitive.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Having centralized practice management software gives me one place to handle most of my administrative tasks, which cuts down on the time and money it takes to run my firm. The client interface is also easy to use and helps reduce security concerns, since documents can be exchanged back and forth in a secure way. Canopy does charge a fairly hefty fee for payments, but not needing a third-party merchant account makes billing smoother and easier overall.

 ### 3. Simple, Team-Loved Hub for Managing Tasks and Templates

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Michelle A. T. | Founder and Managing Partner, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 28, 2026

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

It's a great product/service management tool! Canopy is our main hub for all tasks needing to be performed within the company. It's simple to use, and the whole team loves it. Templates are a big plus so you can easily duplicate tasks across multiple clients w/o recreating the work. Canopy is also great about CHANGE! Any time we have a new idea that would be helpful, it's nice to know that Canopy is open to change and listening to new ideas from the people that use the software.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

The only thing I have to complain about with Canopy is the fact that time blocking is not the best. The feature is there, BUT we like to time block our calendars for the whole week so each team member know what their focus needs to be. Canopy has the ability to add the items to your calendar, but only on a specific day NOT a specific time of the day. If this were possible the system would be so much better.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Canopy helps us keep our tasks organized. It makes it easy to see exactly how many returns we need to work on and whether we can finish them in time to meet a deadline.

 ### 4. Canopy Consolidated Our Firm Into One Smooth, Stress-Reducing Platform

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mike B. | Owner, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 28, 2026

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

I love how Canopy has consolidated my firm into a single platform. I used to scramble between multiple software tools to do what Canopy does in one place. The default organizer and task templates have also helped my firm run more smoothly and have alleviated a lot of the stress that comes with collecting information from my clients.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

With the custom questionnaires you can create in Canopy, you’re not able to complete them yourself. I find this difficult at times because, while I do a lot of work remotely and can send the questionnaire to my client, I also do a lot of in-person sessions. In those cases, I’m unable to fill out the questionnaire on the client’s behalf when they’re sitting across from me, since the only option is to send it to them.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Canopy has resolved a lot of the mental stress that comes with dealing with clients as well as the day to day operations. Another thing I love is the billing syncs directly with my QuickBooks making my recordkeeping easy and streamlined while also adding clients to my account as well.

 ### 5. All-in-One Tool for Organizing, Communicating, and Billing

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sachin A. | Accountant, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 27, 2026

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

Canopy acts as the main hub for running a tax firm, keeping your team and client work from scattering into chaos. It helps you organize everything by putting client docs, PDF editing, and task workflows into one spot—plus handy tools for pulling IRS transcripts. On the communication front, it cuts down on endless email tag by giving clients a sleek portal to upload files, sign forms, and get auto-reminded about missing documents. And when it comes to billing, it ties time tracking right into your projects, making it easy to send invoices and collect payments online without chasing people down.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

The emails interface feels a bit clunky sometimes.

 ### 6. Canopy Keeps Our Accounting Practice Organized and Efficient in One Place

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Lisa A. | Senior Manager, Private Client Services, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 27, 2026

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

Canopy keeps my entire accounting practice in one place. I can manage client information, documents, tasks, emails, billing, and secure client communication without constantly switching between different applications. The workflow management and client portal have helped me stay organized, meet deadlines, and provide a more professional experience for my clients. As a firm owner, having one centralized system has made my practice much more efficient

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

The automated tasks are still a bit difficult to create.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Canopy has helped me solve several key business challenges. As a growing CPA firm, I needed one place to manage clients, organize documents, track tasks, monitor deadlines, bill clients, and communicate securely. Before implementing Canopy, these functions were spread across multiple systems, which increased the risk of missed deadlines and inefficiencies. Canopy has streamlined my workflows, improved organization, and given me better visibility into the status of every client engagement. It has also helped me present a more professional experience through its secure client portal and electronic document management, allowing me to spend more time serving clients and growing my business instead of managing administrative tasks.

 ### 7. Simplifying Client Workflows and Firm Operations

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Maria D. | Admin Executive, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 27, 2026

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

What I like best about Canopy is how easy it is to manage client work in one place. Creating tasks, sending client requests, and requesting e-signatures are all simple and efficient. Drafting invoices and sending engagement letters is also quick and straightforward, which saves us a lot of time. I also appreciate how well Canopy integrates with other platforms, making our workflow more streamlined and efficient.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

Occasionally, Canopy experiences random platform bugs, which can interrupt our workflow. Another area for improvement is the search function for archived tax organizers. Since archived organizers often have similar or default names, it can be difficult to find a specific one unless it has been manually renamed. Improving the search or allowing for better organization of archived tax organizers would make this process much easier.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Canopy helps us keep our client management and workflow organized in one central platform. We use it to manage tasks, track client requests, send engagement letters and e-signature requests, create invoices, and securely communicate with clients. Having everything in one place reduces the need to switch between multiple systems, improves team collaboration, and helps us stay on top of deadlines. As a result, we've become more efficient, provide a better experience for our clients, and spend less time on administrative work.

 ### 8. Convenient All-in-One Platform with an Easy Client Portal

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Leighton H. | Office Manager, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 27, 2026

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

The all-in-one platform is convenient by having clients, files, timesheets, billing, and workflows in one place saves time, and the client portal is easy for clients to use for document uploads and e-signatures. The interface is generally clean and intuitive, though some workflows require too many clicks to complete simple tasks. It integrates well with QuickBooks Online, however data migration from other platforms can be challenging as there is no direct conversion tool from some vendors. Performance is generally reliable, but Insights reporting has occasional outages and the 100-row limit on timesheet reports is a significant limitation for larger firms. Pricing is reasonable for smaller firms but can add up as you scale. Support is responsive and the live chat is convenient for quick issues, though onboarding could be more structured for firms transitioning from other platforms. AI features are still limited compared to competitors and we'd love to see more automation in billing and workflow management.
😊

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

The biggest frustration is the inability to send invoices and statements in bulk and everything has to be done one at a time which is very time consuming. You also can't CC a third party on invoice emails, filter invoices by description, or apply late fees on a recurring basis. The Insights timesheet report is limited to 100 rows which forces us to compile reports manually. Recurring tasks sometimes skip to a future due date instead of the next one, and archived tasks don't show the associated client name making it hard to find and unarchive them. The reporting module could also be more robust and customizable. Overall, the platform has great potential but several billing and workflow limitations make daily operations more tedious than they should be.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Canopy helps centralize our firm's operations by combining client management, document storage, timesheets, billing, invoicing, workflows, and e-signatures in one platform. Before Canopy, we were using multiple systems which made it harder to track client activity and manage tasks efficiently. Having everything in one place has improved communication with clients through the client portal and made it easier to track outstanding invoices and follow up on collections. The workflow and task management features help keep our team organized and on track with deadlines. Overall it has streamlined our day-to-day operations, though there is still room for improvement in reporting and billing automation.

 ### 9. Canopy Made Workload Tracking Effortless for Our Team

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tyler H. | Partner, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 27, 2026

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

Canopy has been a genuine game-changer for our team. Before it, keeping track of who was working on what meant chasing people down. Now I can see everyone's workload at a glance, and our processes are actually processes instead of a collection of habits. Wish we'd made the switch sooner.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

Engagements could be more customizable. The templates get you most of the way there, but fitting them to how we actually work takes more configuration than I expected, and I can see myself spending real time on setup before it pays off. More flexibility out of the box — or a faster way to duplicate and tweak an existing engagement — would help a lot.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The core problem was that we had no single place to see the state of the work. Assignments lived in spreadsheets, context lived in email threads, and a fair amount lived only in people's heads. That meant things occasionally slipped, and I burned a chunk of every week just collecting status updates.

Canopy consolidated that. Now the work and its status sit in one system, so I can see capacity issues coming instead of discovering them after a deadline moves. The standardized workflows mean engagements get handled consistently regardless of who picks them up, and new team members can follow a documented process instead of shadowing someone for weeks.

The practical benefit is less administrative overhead for me and fewer interruptions for everyone else.

 ### 10. All-in-One Workflow, Billing, Document Management & Client Portal That Saves Us Time

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Lesley S. | VP of Operations, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 27, 2026

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

What's been most helpful is having workflow management, document management, billing/time tracking, and the client portal all in one system rather than juggling separate tools. Consolidating these to one system has created time savings across multiple areas of our business and a better experience for staff and clients.

The client portal in particular has been a success with our clients. They can upload documents, sign, and communicate in one place instead of email chains, which reduces the time staff spend chasing paperwork.

On the workflow side, having task assignments and deadlines visible in one system makes it easier to see where client work stands without manually checking in with each team member. We rely heavily on the Insights feature of Canopy to see our team visibility and manage work within the departments.

Having engagement letters, billing and time tracking built into the same platform with the workflow also saves time versus reconciling a separate billing tool against project records.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

There are only brief moments of dislike. When I've come across a feature that does not work as intended or wish the system could function a certain way...it's only a matter of time before that wish is granted. Canopy customer service is top notch and the dev team is super responsive to customer requests. They truly want the best experience for their users.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We have significantly reduced emails within our organization. Canopy provides a communication channel within the workflow that reduces the need to send excessive emails.

The document checklists have been very helpful in sending clients requests for items and the automated follow up with the client is great.

Automate recurring billing once an engagement letter is executed, and applying WIP to those invoices, has significantly expedited our billing process.

I'm sure there are many more ways that I'm not thinking of in this moment.

 ### 11. A Lifesaver: Smooth Onboarding, Big Savings, and Powerful Project Tracking

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** LINDSAY H. | Tax and Accounting Specialist, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 27, 2026

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

I was able to cut multiple software subscriptions, while adding only Canopy. The cost savings was enough to switch immediately after my demo and the onboarding process was so smooth. If I ever have a question, I get a knowledgeable agent who assists me promptly to get me back to working. Each day I am able to look at what projects are due that week or in the upcoming weeks to know my work loads. I have my client projects tracked from client uploads to efile confirmations to keep my firm running smooth from day to day. Monthly I pull my WIP Report for time entered and bill out clients easily right in Canopy, which also integrates with QBO for easy accounting tracking. This software has been a lifesaver at a fraction of the cost!

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

The only downside that I have found with Canopy is the Canopy Desktop Assistant being a little slow when I'm opening excel files to edit.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Canopy helps me track e-file signatures and engagement letters within my tasks. Thanks to this software, I haven’t missed a single engagement letter signature yet. I used to use Adobe for e-signatures and would often send the engagement letters and e-file authorizations separately, but now they print together as one package from UltraTax.

 ### 12. Streamlined Client Management with Robust Security

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Brandie B. | CPA, Accounting, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 18, 2025

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

I like having all client information in one place with Canopy. It's easy to share information and send documents for e-signature, especially with the KBB feature to authenticate client signatures. I can quickly look up client details like addresses or phone numbers and securely send and receive documents containing personal information. The task organization and tracking features are really helpful too; I can easily see what tasks are due and even set them to automatically flow to the next due date. Importing client data was straightforward and efficient, making setup a breeze.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

Canopy has the feature to prepare client bills, but we haven't used it because it's not as detailed as our current billing software, and we like to prepare very detailed bills.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I manage client info securely with Canopy, streamlining my task tracking and document handling. I find it easy to share documents, support e-signatures, and automate task flows, improving my client management and security.

 ### 13. All-in-One Firm Platform Solution Near Perfection

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kyle M. | Senior Auditor, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 27, 2026

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

It is an all inclusive product for our firm. We use this for our billing, document retention, and client listing. We love the fact that this software integrates with QuickBooks Online. For the pricing of the product, I believe it is reasonable, but have not explored other options and their pricing. With the Canopy Drive, I like the fact I can open up documents directly and it will save to Canopy automatically. This will make it easier on our end, so we do not have to download files and re-upload, increasing performance. Th on-boarding of clients is great, as we can make internal notes to help notate what discussions took place and with who, and even sending documents to sign like engagement letters are great and seamless. The interface of the website is easy to understand, and there are a lot of features to explore, especially with AI.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

There is a feature for late fees, however, this would not be good if you integrate with QBO, as it does not update with late fees. Another thing I wish they would improve on is if you already have a client within Canopy, and they invite you to QBO, it would ask to merge clients, instead of just creating a new client record. If they could solve these, this would make the product near-perfect.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

With all of the features by Canopy, this would help save overhead costs since we do not need to pay for external storage, a Point of Sale feature, or less intuitive firm management software.

 ### 14. Efficient Client Management with Everything in One Place

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jade A. | Technical Administrator, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 20, 2025

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

I love how I can see open tasks, contact info, important notes, and files all in one place. When we are on calls with clients or responding to hundreds of emails a day, having everything in one place at one glance makes us efficient and allows questions to be handled by one person rather than transferring the client around the office. Canopy has allowed us to put all of our notes, status updates, task tracking, and files in one place.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

I want to see the history of eSign/client request reminders and I would like to be able to copy the 'share files' link that is sent to clients into my own email I am sending clients.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Canopy lets us manage clients, returns, bookkeeping, and files efficiently. It centralizes notes, status updates, and tasks, boosting productivity by reducing the need for multiple tools. Having everything in one place enhances efficiency when responding to client requests and helps us handle inquiries without transferring them around the office.

 ### 15. An essential tool for your practice!

By automating and simplifying routine tasks, it allows our team to spend less time on administrative work and more time building meaningful relationships with our clients. The time savings have enabled us to provide a higher level of personalized service while maintaining a more organized and productive workflow.

 ### 16. Canopy: User-Friendly All-in-One Program

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ayssa M. | Administrative Assistant/IT, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 28, 2026

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

I enjoy that Canopy is an all in one place to manage workload, client documents, billing & payments, and client communications. I also like that it is both user friendly on the office side as well as on the client end. The Penny chatbot feature is also excellent in providing real time answers to quick Canopy questions.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

I believe Canopy could be better if the workload was a bit more focused on issues that real firms face everyday. The reports feature needs to be revamped in an easy to use and printable format without the need to export to Excel.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Storage would be the main problem. Before Canopy, we had client files in multiple locations, client communications in multiple locations and it was not the best way to maintain the client's information. Now that everything is all in one easy to access, organized location, we are really loving it.

 ### 17. Canopy is a game changer

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mandy F. | President, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 16, 2023

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

Canopy makes it easy to coordinate and communicate - the two most pivotal aspects of making our work efficient and effective. I also ADORE the workflow options, their support team is AMAZING and if you have an update request - it sometimes feels like all you have to do is ask!

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

We utilize QBO for our accounting software internally and the integration with Canopy isn't perfect. It works - but there are glitches. They're aware of them and based on our previous experience with how they address issues - I fully expect them to do everything they can to make that integration top knotch.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It is so much more than document retention - we manage our workflows, client communications, billing and all aspects of file storage and sharing. We have made leaps and bounds as a business since fully implementing Canopy.

 ### 18. Securing and Sharing Data and Docs with my Loyal Clients!

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Joshua G. | Owner, Tax consultant, Financial advisor, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 05, 2022

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

Keeping documents safe for my Clients and myself is handled using encryption that is better than what most banks use. Having control over the organization of files makes retrieval far easier than physical copies in my filing cabinet. My Clients have access to their files whenever from wherever, as do I -- plus I can determine which files I am ready to show them.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

I am still waiting on integration with Drake Tax software, which could increase my efficiency in preparation for my Clients.

**Recommendations to others considering Canopy:**

Greater than bank-level security is the main draw.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Keeping my Clients' PII (Personally Identifiable Information) safe is the most important aspect, with document sharing coming in a close 2nd. Having a secure portal that permits controlled sharing with my Clients has saved me time that I used to spend hunting documents in a filing cabinet.

 ### 19. Reasonable Pricing, Smooth Onboarding, and Strong Support

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Traci L. | Office Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 27, 2026

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

The price is reasonable, and I like that I can add time and billing within the same platform. Customer support is friendly and very helpful. The onboarding and overall performance have been solid, and it feels like the team really listens to our requests. They also do a great job keeping us informed about new upgrades, and the webinars are very helpful. Overall, I really like the workflows.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

I would like to be able to print the client contact list so I can use it as my client sheet and also have my clients review it. There isn’t a lot that I don’t like about them overall; they’ve taken many of my suggestions and have made the changes.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Pricing and workflows.

 ### 20. A CPA Firm's Go-To for Project Management and CRM

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Nick F. | President, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 18, 2025

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

Canopy was a game-changer this past tax season. I bought a CPA firm in a different location from my practice, and I also have a remote worker. Canopy allowed me to know the status of every return in real time and communicate with the team members working on each client task, and also communicate with the clients through Canopy. It is also great for receiving client documents and storing them in the client portal. I love the ability to edit the client documents and leave notes for other team members. The clients like having instant access to their tax records and tax returns, and they also really like the e-signature feature through Canopy.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

Some clients have a hard time e-signing on their phone or tablet.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Canopy saves me time, organizes clients' files, and gives the client and my team a single place to store all client documents. Canopy allows me to work from any location and access everything I need. It keeps me organized and lets me know when it is my turn to work on a particular client task.

 ### 21. Streamlines Client Tasks and internal/external communication, But Reporting Needs Improvement

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sarah R. | Executive Accounting Administrator, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 21, 2025

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

We use canopy to smooth out processes within our firm for bookkeeping, tax and advisory services. The client portal is great for clients to have one place to go to view and sign documents along with paying invoices. That ability to streamline processes from sales engagements to client onboarding to working with the client is improving constantly. Customer support is very responsive. The AI features are helping us improve efficiencies - especially the embedded Canopy Notetaker.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

The reporting features still aren’t easy to use. It takes a lot of time to learn the Insights reporting tools well enough to generate the specific reports our firm needs. I also wish the client portal had a built-in communication feature. It sounds like that may be coming in the future, but for now it’s a noticeable gap. The client portal also NEEDS a way to show where a client is in a process. For example, during tax season, we would really like the client to be able to log in to their client portal and see that their returns are prepared and being reviewed without needing to send an email to check on their status. For being a platform that caters to tax and accounting, those sorts of features could really be strenghtened.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Canopy is solving the problem of having everything in one place to help us work towards greater efficiency. Streamlined task management for bookkeeping, tax and advisory services, a record of email communication linked to each client, onboarding, document management including document signatures. We really love the new AI Canopy Notetaker that automatically links meeting notes to the client record. That has been a huge saver of time, organization and trasparency of communication across the team. What we have not figured out yet is how to see our data reported out in the way we want. The reporting features are in place, but it is a steep learning curve to understand how to use them.

 ### 22. Truly All-in-One Platform That Streamlined Our Accounting Firm

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Amanda L. | Accountant - Audit and Tax, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 21, 2026

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

It is truly an all-in-one solution for Accounting firms. We can do billing, collect documents from clients, run reports, organize documents, plan capacity for staff, and more, all in one platform. Before Canopy, we had at least 3 different systems to complete these items.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

The document manager is a little clunky compared to other solutions I have used. Not being able to edit a document from within the task screen is a headache for staff. But, something I have to give Canopy credit for is that they are constantly making improvements and they take feedback from real users. I have talked to the Canopy team on multiple occasions and suggested refinements, and have been thrilled to see some of these come to fruition. They are really trying to fix the items we don't like.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Getting everything in one place. Offering an easy-to-use customer portal. Rolling out integrations with tools like Filed and bookkeeping options right within Canopy are exciting to see as well.

 ### 23. True All‑in‑One Platform That Replaces Fragmented Tools

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Cherie L. | Chief of Staff, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 21, 2026

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

One of Canopy’s greatest strengths is its ability to consolidate core practice management functions into a single system. Instead of juggling separate tools for CRM, document storage, workflow tracking, billing, and tax resolution, our firm operates within one unified platform. The result is a more streamlined, scalable operating model.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

For growing teams with multiple users and feature needs, total cost of ownership can become significantly higher than expected, and initial setup and workflow configuration require significant time and effort before you are able to extract the full value of the product.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

One of our primary operational challenges has been managing client billing, so having a centralized platform has been extremely valuable. While we are still in the process of fully implementing workflow automation, we anticipate it will have a meaningful impact once complete—particularly given our high volume of SPAC clients. Streamlining these engagements through more automated workflows and integrated processes should enable us to move clients through each stage more efficiently. In turn, this will reduce the need for manual follow-ups, improve overall productivity, and allow our team to focus more on higher-value, strategic work.

 ### 24. All-in-One, Reliable Platform with Great Support and QBO Integration

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Pure Office S. | Owner/Bookkeeper, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 30, 2026

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

The most helpful feature is having everything in one place for Client Work, Engagements, Payments and Time Tracking. Navigating everything within Canopy helps my Day to Day operations run much more efficiently and has been very reliable. The other feature that is helpful is being able to integrate to QBO so that I can balance my business books easier. The Pricing of Canopy is very affordable and the help I've received from Customer Service on any issues I've had has been great.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

There is nothing that I dislike about Canopy right now.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The new messaging feature that Canopy has added is very helpful for me to quickly converse with my clients instead of through email.

 ### 25. Versatile Tool with Excellent Client Management Features

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Christina W. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 30, 2026

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

I appreciate how Canopy manages client profiles and makes it easy to document information and upload files. I love the regular workshops and classes they offer, which help me use Canopy better and create excitement for new features. I've attended four workshops, and they not only enhance my use of Canopy but also allow me to provide real feedback to improve the service. Additionally, I've enjoyed the feature that allows me to edit PDFs within Canopy, which has been really helpful. The initial setup was very easy for our small business, and we've been gradually using more features. These aspects make Canopy a tool I would definitely recommend.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

I wish the client messaging/communications tab had a searchable method where you could search specific words or dates in the emails. Right now, it only allows you to search by clicking through communication and reading each email individually, which is also sometimes duplicated in a stream of emails. It would be nice to have a search tool where you could find items by searching keywords or phrases.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Canopy to manage client communication, quickly access client info, note mailouts, and automate billing, improving efficiency.

 ### 26. User-Friendly Interface with Room for AI Improvement

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jason P. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 28, 2026

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

I love how Canopy centralizes communicating securely with tax preparation clients. The simple, clean interface of the portal makes it easy for clients to sign firm records and send tax support documents, especially through the mobile application. This ease of use not only helps clients but also enhances my practice's professional and modern look, offering clients an organized way to process their tax prep. Additionally, I appreciate how easy the initial setup was, with no difficult hurdles during the onboarding process.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

As much as I appreciate them pushing the envelope and developing new, cutting-edge tech products to integrate, some of their AI tools definitely need some work before they're ready for me to roll out and rely on fully. I would suggest they work on improving accuracy metrics for the data their models catch and use to prepare client-facing tools like organizers and checklists. Since these are scoped to tax, accuracy is the most important thing, and it can instill a subtle sense of distrust if I'm giving clients tools that don't work as they're supposed to.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Canopy for securely communicating with tax clients, sending and receiving documents, signing official records, and automating payments. It gives clients a one-stop portal for payments, document signing, and accessing records.

 ### 27. Easy-to-Use All-in-One Firm Platform with Responsive Support

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Accounting | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 28, 2026

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

Having an all-in-one solution for many of the tasks needed to run a firm. Workflow, Billing, Document Storage, Communication in firm and with Clients. It is easy to use and navigate, Integrations help streamline workflow, support is very responsive. Pricing is very reasonable. The AI is supposed to be helpful and Performance is as expected.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

Occasional issues happen (to be expected). Changes at random times during the year. A set schedule to "Update" rather than random pushed updates that move things around or sometimes just break things. Their new Client Management migration was supposed to be easy and seamless, but it undid three years of data we had to rebuild (still are really)... They say it's for future features, not really sure the benefits outweigh the time it cost us. Sidebar details that are customized do not stay in any "fixed" place. A field may be near the top on one record and at the bottom of another based on information filled out. That is monumentally annoying.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Workflow management. This helps so much! Auto notification of upcoming invoice deadlines and late payment reminders has helped immensely. Auto reminders, help us keep the client accountable without having to manually remind them we need something from them. Really great. The portal is excellent. For the most part clients like it. Being able to communicate inside the portal has been a welcome addition.

 ### 28. Robust Features but Steep Learning Curve

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Lindsey R. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 28, 2026

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

I love all the features that Canopy has that connect the portal and automate tasks. These features save time on repetitive tasks, allowing us to assign tasks to different employees, which helps the automated process and keeps track of all the work. It keeps employees on task and helps us stay organized so that nothing falls through the cracks. I also like that Canopy helps us keep track of where we're at in the process, increasing our capacity.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

I think Canopy is incredibly complex, and it takes a long time to learn the systems and all of the ins and outs of each feature, which can be overwhelming. The initial setup was not easy, and when we migrated our portal and all of our clients to Canopy, there was some process switching, and it was cumbersome for over a month. My clients could not access the new portal, although I think Canopy has already fixed this.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Canopy for workflow and auto payments, saving time on repetitive tasks. It helps assign tasks, keeps employees on track, and organizes work so nothing falls through the cracks. This increases our capacity and helps track our progress on tax preparations.

 ### 29. Streamlined Our Workflow with Modern Automation

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Britain B. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 28, 2026

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

I use Canopy as our practice management system, which is really helpful for workflow automation and has allowed us to cut our tech stack in half. Canopy solves the problem of constantly having to switch between different platforms by providing one source of truth where we can bill, store, and track everything. I like how modern the platform is; it feels built for this day and age and is very forward-thinking. The way Canopy lets us connect task templates to an engagement letter has been huge, creating tasks automatically as soon as a client signs. This eases the team's workload and cuts down on manual tasks. Canopy's focus on automation helps our professionals spend less time on repetitive tasks and more with clients. The initial setup was not bad at all, with Canopy University and webinars covering everything we needed to know. Also, I appreciate the simplicity of having an all-in-one platform.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

One area for improvement would be the ability to connect questionnaires or organizers to task templates. I'd like questionnaires to trigger automations and status updates, and to be able to send them automatically once an engagement letter is signed. I'd also mention some hesitation around AI usage, particularly with the new Canopy Coworker and AI questionnaire features. I'm hopeful these additions will prove worth the cost, but I'd like to see clearer value before fully committing to them. On the AI side, it seems like Canopy is aiming to become an all-in-one platform. My main hope is that pricing stays fair and reasonable for users as these features are rolled out, rather than becoming a significant added cost for capabilities we may only partially use.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Canopy for practice management and workflow automation, reducing our tech stack by half. It solves the issue of switching between platforms, allowing us to bill, store, and track in one place while automating time-consuming tasks.

 ### 30. Easy-to-Use Interface and Helpful Training Modules

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Accounting | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 27, 2026

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

I appreciate the user-friendly interface and the helpful training modules. These features streamline our workflow, making it easier to manage tasks and maintain consistent communication with our clients throughout the year, not just during tax season.

The intuitive design allows us to quickly access essential tools and resources, which keeps us organized and efficient. With the training modules, our team can continuously improve our skills and stay up to date on best practices. This ongoing professional development translates into better service for our clients.

Additionally, the workflow system enables us to set reminders and follow-up tasks, ensuring that we reconnect with clients regularly. By making check-in calls or sending personalized updates throughout the year, we build stronger relationships and foster trust. This proactive approach helps us understand their evolving needs and offers opportunities for additional support, whether that’s planning for future taxes, discussing financial goals, or simply catching up on their current situation.

Ultimately, this consistent engagement not only enhances our client relationships but also positions us as a reliable partner in their financial journey, far beyond the pressures of tax season.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

One area I would like to see improved is the user interface. While Canopy has a lot of useful features, it can sometimes take several clicks to find what I'm looking for, especially when switching between payroll, HR, and time-off management. I would also like more flexibility with reporting, including easier customization and exporting. Some integrations could be more seamless to reduce manual work between systems. Performance is generally good, but occasionally pages load slowly when generating larger reports. I think additional AI-powered features, such as automatically identifying payroll discrepancies, PTO issues, or suggesting corrections, would also be valuable. Finally, while the onboarding process was straightforward, more in-app tutorials and guided walkthroughs for advanced features would make it easier for new users to learn everything Canopy has to offer.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Before using Canopy, we were managing client requests, documents, and tax workflow across multiple systems, which made it easy for tasks to be missed or delayed. Since implementing Canopy, we've been able to keep client information, documents, tasks, and communication in one place, making our workflow much more organized and efficient. It has significantly reduced the amount of time spent searching for files and tracking project status, allowing our team to respond to clients faster and stay on top of deadlines during busy tax season. The secure client portal has also made it much easier for clients to upload documents and sign forms electronically, reducing back-and-forth emails and paperwork. Overall, Canopy has helped improve collaboration, streamline our tax workflow, and provide a more professional experience for both our team and our clients.

 ### 31. Centralized Solutions with Room for AI Innovation

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Reese R. | D.O, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 28, 2026

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

I use Canopy for our tax and accounting business as our main hub for everything, like task management, billing, notes, communication, and CRM. I like that it's very easy to use and to train people on. It's designed well for what it does, and they offer easy and consistent pricing. I appreciate the good support and knowledge base, which allow us to quickly resolve issues and enable our team to solve their own problems without having to ask another team member. The platform is very intuitive, making it easy to train both new and existing employees.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

The platform lacks AI features and automation. I think Canopy does most things well but nothing great, and it lacks customization. The tasks are currently very click-heavy, and I wish they could be more automated and dynamic. A kind of coworker that can complete tasks on your behalf, answer questions, and be an active assistant would be great. Also, while Canopy makes it easy to migrate client info and most files, the notes migration was a big lift.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Canopy brings many tools under one umbrella, handling task management, files, client info, billing, and notes all in one place, instead of dealing with fragmented tools.

 ### 32. Unified Platform, Boosted Efficiency

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ricardo L. | Junior Staff Accountant, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 28, 2026

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

I like that Canopy has become our central practice management platform, effectively bringing our core functions like client relationships, workflow, document storage, and internal collaboration into one place. It has replaced multiple applications like Ignition & CPA Charge, Practice CS, File Cabinet, and Liscio, which has greatly simplified our workflow. I appreciate that Canopy provides a real-time status on various projects, which has improved workflow visibility. It's a single source of truth for our team, boosting efficiency, collaboration, and enhancing client services and communication. The setup was easy, and although there was a learning curve, the support staff has been great.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

We find that overall it has been great, but we feel that things that could improve are reporting and analytics, workflow flexibility integration with outside apps, and bulk management capabilities. Also, while getting set up was easy, the learning curve was a bit hard.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Canopy to consolidate practice management, eliminating scattered information. It improves workflow visibility, serves as a central source of truth, and enhances team collaboration and client services. Canopy has simplified our workflow by replacing multiple apps, making our practice management more efficient.

 ### 33. Secure, Intuitive CRM with Automated Reminders

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mary W. | Team Development and Innovation Strategist, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 19, 2025

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

I love the automated reminders in Canopy, which help us stay on top of clients without having to contact them manually, and I appreciate its secure portal for transferring information back and forth. I also like the organizers for gathering information. Canopy's interface is pretty intuitive to use. The secure portal for sharing documents and gathering information from clients is very useful because of the nature of the sensitive information we need, like PII. We use Canopy often for pulling tax transcripts for clients and providing updates on their amendments, so that feature is very useful as well, and the transcripts can be pulled on a schedule, which helps reduce the manual effort.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

We don't do billing through Canopy. Since we use QuickBooks Online for bookkeeping, we invoice through there, so that can get a little clunky having two dominant systems.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I love Canopy's automated reminders and secure portal for transferring information. The organizers help gather info efficiently. It's pretty intuitive and great for pulling tax transcripts and providing updates on client amendments.

 ### 34. Unified CRM, Needs Better Email Integration

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Accounting | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 19, 2025

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

I appreciate Canopy’s ability to consolidate all necessary elements in one place, which makes managing accounting tasks more streamlined. Its feature to allow viewing client work progress and tracking tasks efficiently is incredibly useful. The ease with which I can dive deep into various project details and have all my contacts organized in one convenient location is particularly beneficial. Additionally, Canopy’s robust set of tools, especially the file management component, stands out as a valuable asset for our firm’s needs. The support team from Canopy made the initial setup simple and smooth through a series of Zoom meetings, ensuring a seamless transition process.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

I find Canopy's email integration lacking, necessitating the use of an alternative email client, Missive, for better functionality within a team environment. Canopy could benefit from having a more robust email client integrated within the CRM.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I find Canopy consolidates all our client management needs, making it easy to track work progress, manage contacts, and integrate document management, boosting our efficiency.

 ### 35. Canopy Centralized Our Firm’s Workflow and Client Communication

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Accounting | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 28, 2026

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

We've been using Canopy across our firm, and it has become one of the central tools in our day-to-day operations. As a growing firm with a high volume of tax, accounting, and advisory clients, having everything in one place has made a significant difference.

The client portal is one of our favorite features. It provides clients with a secure, easy-to-use location to upload documents, complete requests, sign engagement letters, pay invoices, and access prior tax returns. Having a single source of truth has greatly reduced email traffic and improved communication with our clients.

The workflow management tools have also been a huge benefit. We can track every engagement from start to finish, assign work across the team, create standardized processes, and quickly identify bottlenecks before they become issues. The visibility into our workload has helped us manage busy seasons much more effectively.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

Overall, Canopy has been a great platform for our firm, but like any software, there are areas where we'd love to see continued improvement.

One area with the greatest opportunity is the calendar and scheduling functionality. We'd love to see a more robust calendaring system that goes beyond basic event management. Features such as improved staff scheduling, workload visibility, recurring internal deadlines, appointment management, calendar overlays, and tighter integration with workflows and task due dates would make it easier to coordinate work across the firm. A more comprehensive scheduling experience would further reduce the need to rely on external calendar tools and help keep all firm operations within a single platform.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

One of the biggest benefits we've seen with Canopy is how much it has reduced the amount of administrative "babysitting" required to keep work moving. The automated client requests, reminders, and workflow automations have significantly cut down on the time our team spends following up for missing information or manually tracking outstanding items.

Instead of constantly chasing documents and status updates, our administrative team can focus on higher-value work that improves the client experience and supports the firm more strategically. By automating many of the routine touchpoints, Canopy allows our team to be more intentional with their time, operate more efficiently, and perform at a higher level overall.

 ### 36. Powerful Features with User-Friendly Interface

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Accounting | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 19, 2025

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

I love using Canopy as our Firm's Client Portal because it helps us efficiently manage and streamline a variety of tasks, such as sending out engagements, assigning tasks internally, and handling client communications like tax questionnaires and document requests. Canopy has excellently resolved our challenges in task assignment, making it clear who is responsible for what within our team. The software's user-friendly nature is something I truly appreciate, making my experience smooth and easy. There are so many outstanding features in Canopy that enhance our productivity, and one feature I particularly love is the ability to pull transcripts directly from the IRS, especially since it supports bulk downloads when we have a POA on file. The initial setup was very straightforward and simple enough that our Admin staff could handle it with ease. Overall, the robust functionality and intuitive interfaces of Canopy make it a valuable tool for our practice, and I am highly likely to recommend it to others, rating it a perfect 10 on the recommendation scale.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

I find the Beta version of the questionnaires to be overly complicated and in need of simplification. Additionally, I am having difficulty integrating Canopy with Drake, which is not working as intended.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Canopy for streamlined internal task assignment, client engagement, and document management while benefiting from features like direct IRS transcript access, enhancing our efficiency.

 ### 37. Great all-in-one for client management, weak on project management, IMO.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Clarissa W. | Senior Revenue Tax Auditor, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 28, 2026

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

Having everything in one place. Before Canopy, I was juggling four different software tools to run my bookkeeping practice. Now my engagement letters and contracts, invoicing, payment collection, and all of my client information live in a single platform. That consolidation alone has saved me time and cut down on the mental overhead of switching between systems and reconciling information across them. It's made the client-facing side of my business dramatically simpler to manage.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

The built-in project management. I still run my actual project and task management in Notion, partly because of how I already have it set up, but mostly because of how tasks work in Canopy. In Notion I can see and edit all of my tasks from one screen. In Canopy, when I click on a task, it pulls me out of the task view and drops me into the client profile — so I lose the bird's-eye view of everything on my plate. For anyone who lives in a single task dashboard, that navigation gets in the way.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Canopy replaced the four separate tools I used to run client management. Now the majority of that work — engagement letters and contracts, invoicing, payment collection, and storing all my client information — happens in one software instead of four. That solves the biggest problem I had before: things were scattered, and I was constantly switching platforms and re-entering or reconciling the same client details in multiple places.

The benefit is time and mental bandwidth. I'm not paying for or maintaining four subscriptions, I'm not hunting across systems to find one client's information, and onboarding a client from signed engagement letter to first invoice happens in a single place. It's made the administrative side of my practice noticeably simpler to run.

 ### 38. Efficient Management and Communication with Room for Improvement

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Cyril N. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 28, 2026

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

I like how Canopy keeps everything in one place and the workflow is consistently in front of me via the dashboard. What I like most about Canopy is the email insight feature where I can see my firm’s emails for all of my employees and staff, and they can reply as me as needed. I also appreciate the fluidity of the email into the calendar. It saves us time by combining services and streamlines everyone having to be in each other’s email.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

I would love the ability for a meeting notetaker where I can copy everything over to other systems or modify it. The meeting notetaker has enhanced it by linking to the specific client, but I need the ability to modify it or add and delete things. The initial setup was a lot of work because the workflows in Canopy weren't as extensive as I expected. I would like the option to share workflows from other firms.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Canopy at our firm for practice management and work board management, keeping everything in one place and consistent via the dashboard. It saves time by streamlining email management and integrates services efficiently.

 ### 39. All-in-One Solution with Room for Improvement

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Daniel F. | Accountant | Finance, Controllership Functions, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 27, 2026

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

I think that Canopy is an all-in-one resource management system, and I don't have to use three different pieces of software to do everything. It keeps track of all my documents and provides a place to send secure live files to clients. I also appreciate the secure document uploads and downloads between clients and the secure electronic signatures, which help me get my tax documents from clients and send their tax returns back securely. It's great that I don't have to email anything or have a separate secure email system. The initial setup was easy for me.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

The QuickBooks integration could be improved. I would like to be able to just have to enter an invoice in one place.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Canopy keeps track of documents, provides a secure place to send files to clients, and supports electronic signatures. It's an all-in-one resource management system, eliminating the need for multiple software. I appreciate the secure document transfers and e-filing signature collection without needing separate secure email systems.

 ### 40. Centralized Hub That Streamlines Our Tax Practice

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Amanda L. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 27, 2026

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

I really like that Canopy centralizes nearly every aspect of our practice onto one platform. The secure client portal is extremely intuitive, making document exchange straightforward for both our team and clients. The straightforward electronic signature process speeds up turnarounds, allowing clients to sign documents from anywhere, which helps us file returns more quickly. The workflow tools give us clear visibility into the status of each client return or project, aiding us in prioritization, task assignment, and deadline management. I appreciate that client communications, invoices, documents, and tax returns are all linked to the client's profile, making finding information quick and efficient. The process improves organization and the client experience, enhancing our service efficiency. Canopy helps us stay organized and efficiently work through our tasks and projects.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

Overall, Canopy has been a very valuable platform for our firm, but there are a few areas where I believe it could be improved - and I don't doubt for a second that Canopy won't improve them. Some workflows require more clicks than necessary, and there are times when navigating between different sections of the software isn't as intuitive as it could be. I'd also like to see greater customization within workflows and reporting so firms can better tailor the platform to their specific processes. Occasionally, performance can feel sluggish, particularly when working with larger client files or moving between modules. Continued improvements to speed and responsiveness would enhance the overall user experience. Additionally, I would appreciate more flexibility in automations, which would help reduce manual tasks and further streamline our workflow.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Canopy to manage our tax practice from start to finish. It eliminates inefficiencies by providing one secure platform for documents, signatures, invoicing, and workflow. This reduces the need for multiple systems, streamlines client experiences, and enhances our ability to track and meet deadlines.

 ### 41. Streamlined Client Management and QuickBooks Integration

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Aubree D. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 27, 2026

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

I really like that Canopy is easy to use and integrates directly with QuickBooks Online, which is incredibly helpful. It also offers a ton of different training modules and options, making it great for onboarding new employees or clients with its fantastic database. The integration allows new clients added into QuickBooks to automatically sync with Canopy, which simplifies my workflow. It's been extremely helpful for automating and maintaining name conventions when hiring new people. Additionally, I find invoicing through Canopy much easier for tracking and keeping clients updated without extra downloading, making the whole process time-efficient.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

Sometimes the templates and being able to copy things have been less than user-friendly, especially if it's specifically assigned to a client. Another issue is having different engagements go out that aren't attached to billing, as we don't use billing within Canopy or payments, which has been trickier than we would like. The fact that the tax organizers are not modifiable is less than ideal. We've had to create custom templates outside of Canopy and integrate them in, which is like doing double the work. It would be easier if you could modify the tax organizers directly.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Canopy to manage clients and tasks, track billing, and centralize documents. It's easy to use, integrates with QuickBooks, helping with automation, and improves our document handling beyond email or Dropbox.

 ### 42. User-Friendly with Secure Client App

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Debbie P. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 19, 2025

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

I find Canopy very easy to use. Adding files is extremely easy, and it really simplifies coordinating with clients, especially with the app. The secure portal makes my clients feel good about submitting their information. The clients like being able to share easily by clicking pictures and directly uploading. I also like to trial on the beta when things are available.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

The only thing I don't like about Canopy is when you add clients' files, and you click on the visible box, a huge box pops up, and you have to move it in order to click on each one of the files. I liked it when the box was smaller and easier to navigate around.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I find Canopy very easy to use, and clients feel secure submitting information through its portal. Adding files and coordinating information with clients is effortless, especially with the app. Clients enjoy easily sharing by clicking pictures and directly uploading them.

 ### 43. User-Friendly All-in-One Platform That Keeps Our Team Organized

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Accounting | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 27, 2026

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

One of my favorite things about Canopy is how user-friendly it is. It brings so many different functions together in one platform, making it easy to manage client communication, document sharing, e-signatures, tasks, workflow, and billing without having to switch between multiple programs. Having everything in one place saves time, keeps our team organized, and creates a much smoother experience for both staff and clients.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

Overall, I've had a great experience with Canopy, but there are a few areas that could be improved. Penny, the AI chatbot, hasn't been very useful in my experience and often doesn't provide the answers I'm looking for. The platform can also become slower during the busiest parts of tax season, which can impact efficiency.

I also wish there were a more transparent process for submitting feature requests and tracking product updates. Some requested features seem to take a long time to be implemented—or never make it into the platform at all. While I'm happy with what Canopy offers today, I'd love to see more communication around customer feedback and the product roadmap.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Canopy solves one of the biggest challenges for our firm: keeping everything in one organized place. Instead of asking, "Where is this?" or "Where did that go?", we can manage client and internal communication, documents, tasks, e-signatures, workflow, billing, and more from a single platform.

It has streamlined so many of our day-to-day processes, especially through workflow automation and automatic client follow-ups. That has helped keep our team organized, improved efficiency, reduced manual work, and ensured that fewer things fall through the cracks. Overall, Canopy has saved us a significant amount of time and made it much easier to stay on top of client work during even our busiest seasons.

 ### 44. Boosted Efficiency with Seamless Integrations and Helpful Training

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Accounting | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 27, 2026

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

I really like with work flow that increases efficiency. They really take the time to teach you how to utilize the product. It integrates with some other programs that make it seamless and easy to use. We switched over and our organization and efficiency has increased

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

It is something that I like and something that I dislike all in one. Canopy is constantly updating to keep up with the enhancements that are suggested so sometimes I have a glitch. Generally it is fixed very quickly and thier customer service is very ontop of assisting if needed. So its a plus that they actually listen to clients and update as needed.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Canopy has helped us with a standard places that clients can update and upload information, that we can also have a standard way to send/invoice clients. Also our organization and efficiency has increased because of canopy and how we utilize it

 ### 45. Comprehensive Solution with Stellar Support

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rebekah H. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 27, 2026

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

I use Canopy for storing documents and collaborating with clients, and I appreciate its communication feature, which makes linking our email a breeze. The new monthly close feature in beta is another aspect that we're excited about. The Canopy portal is incredibly easy to use, and we find that clients comply with it well. I've tried a lot of different software as an accountant, and Canopy really stands out as all-encompassing. Between practice management and file sharing, it's a solid choice if you're looking for something that can do just about everything. I really like Canopy's clean user interface, which makes it easy for my staff to pick up even without training. The community support is fantastic, with webinars and classrooms that foster a sense of shared success among users. Their team was incredibly supportive during our transition too.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

If they could improve this closed module during the beta to something that could compete with Double, we would be so excited to add that on and move our entire advisory team over to Canopy. Right now, it's just our tax team that lives in there, and our advisory team has to live in two different systems.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Canopy helps my firm store documents and collaborate with clients easily. It solves the problem of chasing clients for documents, as they comply well with its user-friendly portal. We link our emails for communication and are excited about their new monthly close feature.

 ### 46. Intuitive, Highly Customizable Platform That Fits Our Firm’s Needs

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Audrey A. | Pharmacy Accountant, Learning & Development Coordinator, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 28, 2026

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

Canopy is very intuitive and easy to customize to fit our firm’s needs.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

The Notes section needs some real improvement. The features and audit trail there are lacking. Also, the fact that it doesn't integrate with outside apps but instead tries to bring everything into Canopy itself is frustrating. If something already exists, I would prefer they have an open API to allow us to do what needs to be done instead of waiting on Canopy to choose to develop it themselves.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

They are trying to make their services more robust and trying to incorporate AI into their already existing services which is allowing us to refine and improve our internal processes.

 ### 47. Fair Pricing, Powerful Automation, and a Client-Friendly Portal

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Salvatore L. | Managing Partner/CEO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 27, 2026

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

automation and UI keeps my clients informed and they have an easy time using the portal; the pricing is very fair and there's a ton of value, when threes any down time or issues, support is available around the clock and always helps solve my issues; I love the automation integrations its continually developing as it's helping our firm focus on value added tasks, from a performance standpoint its up 99.9% of the time and loads fast with rare interruptions

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

nothing at all I love it and all that it has done for my firm!

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

notifications and communication with clients; document storage, efile authorizations, no more paper copies of returns

 ### 48. Canopy’s Client List Makes Quick Lookups Fast and Easy

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Front O. | Administrative Assistant, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 30, 2026

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

The most helpful feature in Canopy, for me, is the client list. I often need to look up information quickly, and the client list makes that process much faster and easier. I use it every day at work.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

The least helpful part is probably moving files. It can be difficult at times because if you make a mistake, there’s no easy way to undo it or go back.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

A business problem Canopy has helped me solve is improving client connections. With Canopy, clients can log in and see the same information I see, and they can enter their data directly instead of having to bring it in person.

 ### 49. User-Friendly Client Interface with Secure, Easy Document Sharing

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kara M. | Office Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 30, 2026

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

I really like how user-friendly the app is on the client side, and how securely and easily clients can share documents with us. The chat support is also fantastic. The AI chat help is usually quite accurate, and if I need additional assistance, a representative gets in contact quickly.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

It takes some time to figure out how to set up the tasks. That said, I really appreciate the training and support for creating them, which helps make the process more streamlined.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It’s helping us organize our client documents, and it also lets us streamline some of our processes that used to be handled on paper.

 ### 50. Comprehensive CRM and Workflow Mastery

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sarahminda C. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 27, 2026

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

I like all of the useful features that Canopy offers. The time & billing feature is great for tracking work hours on more complicated projects, and the automation of tasks has been a lifesaver for us. Most recently, I find the audio transcript notetaker invaluable. These features assist our firm, which consists of only two people managing over 300 clients, allowing us to handle tax, incorporation, and compliance clients efficiently. We can keep things up-to-date without people or billing falling through the cracks.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

I can't think of anything at the moment.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We find Canopy improves our communication, prevents us from losing client progress or documents, and simplifies tracking down documents and signatures. It helps us manage over 300 clients with features like time & billing, task automation, and an audio transcript notetaker, ensuring nothing falls through the cracks and preventing revenue loss.
