## Canopy Reviews
  ### 1. Keeps Client Work Organized and Efficient in One Place

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Accounting | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 28, 2026

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

It helps us stay organized by keeping all client documents, tasks, and communications in one place. The task management feature ensures nothing falls through the cracks, client outreach tools make it easy to follow up and request missing information, and document storage allows our team to quickly access prior-year returns and supporting documents. Overall, it saves us time, improves collaboration, and helps us manage client work more efficiently.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

The bookkeeping integration is limited, and the system can be slow at times.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I can see they’re trying to automate more processes, and that’s definitely helpful. However, it would be great if Canopy could send text messages to the phone numbers on file. A lot of small business owners don’t regularly check email and prefer to be contacted by text or phone, which makes it harder to get the items we’re requesting.

  ### 2. Firm Owner

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Blake S. | Firm Owner, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 18, 2025

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

I love that it’s an all-in-one platform. It lets me keep all my files, communications, and billing information in one place, which makes everything feel more organized and easier to manage.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

I’m a solo CPA, and at times it feels like this is geared more toward larger firms.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

They recently said they’re going to add texting to the platform, which will make it much easier for me to maintain a clear level of separation between my clients and myself. It also removes the headache of juggling multiple different software tools to run a firm, when all you really need is Canopy.

  ### 3. Excellent File Organization, Tax Return Tracking, and Billing

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Accounting | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 28, 2026

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

As a firm, we’ve really appreciated how well this keeps our files organized. The ability to track the status of tax returns has been very helpful, and the billing feature has been excellent as well.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

We have not been happy with the organizer. When we signed on last year, we were promised that Smart Intake would help make the Organizer more user-friendly, but it was never mentioned that it would be an additional cost of $25.00 per organizer each year. With just over 2000 clients, that is a hefty added expense. We are trying to formulate the questionnaire, but it is clunky, and the inability to download the completed questionnaire makes it more time-consuming for a tax preparer to pick out information.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Canopy has solved the problem of having one system for our tasks, billing and data management

  ### 4. The new everything = Canopy

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Accounting | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 07, 2024

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

Canopy has made our work processes much simpler as well as more trackable as well. It a tool that we use daily to keep tabs that nothing is being forgotten. We started using it about a year ago and our team was able to learn it pretty quick. We were able to consolidate different programs into Canopy which has saved us time across the board.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

The reporting feature is an area where I wish there were more built-in reports to help facilitate the process much faster, rather than having to export the data elsewhere.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Canopy is making sure that we keep a tab on each client and that there is open communication between our firm and them. This keeps our clients engaged thus causing less clients to drop us and going with someone else.

  ### 5. Effortless Practice Management with Stellar Support

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Accounting | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 20, 2025

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

I love that Canopy puts everything in one place, making my practice management streamlined and efficient. It enhances my workflow by allowing me to see what's pending with ease. I find it incredibly helpful to email clients directly from the platform, which simplifies communication significantly. The task management feature is particularly beneficial in organizing and prioritizing my tasks, leading to better productivity. I also appreciate the smooth initial setup process, thanks to the excellent support team that made everything go well. My overall satisfaction with Canopy is reflected in my high willingness to recommend it to others.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

I'm still learning to navigate and can't easily find what I'm looking.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Canopy to streamline practice management, centralize everything in one place, directly email clients, and manage tasks, helping me see pending items efficiently.

  ### 6. Transforms Client Management with Ease

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Bryan H. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 27, 2026

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

I like how everything is centralized, and I get real-time notifications whenever a task is created or a client responds to a message, which saves me time. The ease of use and the extensive learning catalog are great, allowing me to learn quickly whenever I encounter something new. Canopy University has been indispensable for helping our firm transition from PracticeCS. I also like that Canopy just needed reports from PracticeCS to upload our clients' information, making the setup quite hands-off for us. It's also great that it's connected to my Outlook mail and calendar.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

Transitioning from another software can take time learning the differences.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Canopy for managing clients and documents, automating communication, and centralizing tasks with real-time notifications. It saves time by minimizing the need to personalize boilerplate emails.

  ### 7. All-in-One Canopy: Email, Messaging, Automations, and Billing in One Place

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Gisele D. | Enrolled Agent, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 28, 2026

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

I really like how nearly every tool I need is incorporated into Canopy. It handles the email, client messaging, questionnaires, task automations, and billing.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

I wish it would: 1) Integrate with Quickbooks Desktop (I don't use online), 2) Incorporate a PoS card reader OR a virtual terminal into the billing so that I don't have to use PayPal for my PoS, 3) Allow me to drop screenshots directly into email without having to do them as attachments.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The CRM is huge, and it helps us keep file, tasks, most billing, and communications organized.

  ### 8. Modern, Feature-Rich Solution with Room for Improvement

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mike L. | Senior Tax Associate/Technical Architect, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 18, 2025

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

I love how Canopy is constantly evolving, regularly cranking out new updates and features that are on the cutting edge of the accounting software industry. This includes advancements in tax automation, smart intake of client documents, delivery of tax returns, and integrations with QuickBooks Online. I'm impressed with how quickly they bring new features under one umbrella, allowing us to have everything in one place. Additionally, switching to Canopy from our previous software was refreshing due to its modern, sleek, and feature-rich design, enabling us to take advantage of new capabilities that our old software couldn't handle. I'm grateful for Canopy’s customization options that let us tailor our templates, workflows, and processes. Uploading client data and files is streamlined, seamless, and pain-free.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

I found some frustration with the insights module for custom reporting and dashboards because certain information we need isn't exposed through the queries. Also, we experience occasional outages, which can be annoying even though they aren't common. I think there could be improvement in allowing more integrations with other software. There are some integrations available, but not with all the tools we use, like UltraTax. Lastly, we had some growing pains with the initial setup, as we had to flesh out all of our templates, even though Canopy offers a rich library. It was a bit challenging to switch over due to our fine-tuned specific processes.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Canopy helps us automate workflows, assign tasks, keep track of invoicing, and manage client billing efficiently.

  ### 9. Streamlining

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Adam R. | Payroll professional/Time and billing, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 18, 2022

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

Canopy is certainly an efficient all-in-one solution to tax-firm management. From communication, to storage, to billing, Canopy can handle it all in a way most other programs cannot. Despite this, there some minor issues, but nothing that can't be worked around.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

More interfacing updates have slowed productivity. Canopy has made several updates since my previous review, most of which have encumbered how a firm can smoothly retrieve and receive relevant, and oftentimes vital, information. A return to the original user interface would solve all of these issues, but, again, it isn't anything that would break a firm.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Workflow. Having everything in a one-stop-shop allows us as a firm to have everything we need right at our fingertips.

  ### 10. My Canopy Review!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Michele B. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 27, 2026

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

The best thing about canopy is that everything is in one place. All communications, files, and billing. Love the new texting feature!!

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

There are two things that I would improve about canopy. 1. The ability to look at multiple files in multiple windows at the same time (maybe we can - I just haven't found out how) 2. More flexibility in the billing module. I need more detail Can we add some drill down features in the billing module so I can see the detail? It would be easier than picking thru the reports. Again, maybe we can but I haven't been able to figure out how.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Keeping everything together! Being able to save the communications in one place instead of having texts and emails in separate apps.

  ### 11. Game-Changer for Document Management and Team Collaboration

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Connor H. | Partner, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 18, 2025

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

Canopy is awesome for document management. I love gathering all the client workpapers and condensing them into the specific order I want. Highlighting the documents and making notes for other employees is a game changer.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

I wish it was capable of sending updates to cell phones thru text! It would be amazing to send signature requests and invoices to client phones. A lot of time our invoices go to junk/spam

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Having all documents in one organized place. Communicating messages to clients in bulk when I have important information to share.

  ### 12. Effortless Client Management, But Needs Task Automation Refinement

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Stephanie T. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 27, 2026

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

I like that Canopy provides a secure place for clients to upload documents and assists in managing workflow for our accounting tasks. I appreciate that clients find it easy to use, which reduces the number of questions they have and helps us get the information we need quicker. I also think billing is easy with Canopy.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

I don't love the automated tasks. I get emails about them, but they are bulked together, so I almost never know what they were for. Also, I don't need those reminders. It's simply not necessary. There are customized task lists that help with this.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Canopy for client management and uploads, billing, and secure workflows. Clients find it easy, reducing their questions and speeding up info gathering. Billing is straightforward.

  ### 13. Easy-to-Use Client Portal with Awesome QuickBooks Integration

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Alejandro S. | CPA, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 28, 2026

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

Canopy is easy to use, and the portal has been well received by all of my clients. It’s straightforward to navigate, and the integration from Canopy to QuickBooks is awesome.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

The implementation leaves a bit to be desired. You have a quick call, and then that’s where it stops. After that, all of the training is on you, and it’s mostly done through boring videos, slides, and similar materials.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Canopy helps solve client access and security challenges when transmitting documents. It is also helping me not lose client information

  ### 14. Streamlined Workflow with Easy Project Management

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tomi S. | Admin, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 21, 2026

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

I really like Canopy for project management due to its ease of use and the ability to handle many different types of projects. It's convenient that we could combine five different programs into one with Canopy. The integration with Outlook also adds to its value by enhancing our workflow.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

I think the time and billing platform could be improved. The setup was not difficult, but it was time-consuming as some of the information did not convert.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We combined 5 different programs into 1 when we switched to Canopy.

  ### 15. User Friendly with comprehensive feature for documents management

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Haseeb R. | Head of Operation, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 27, 2026

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

Its a user friendly with comprehensive features for documents management and clients can also have access to review, update and sign documents on same platform.

Task Reminder feature is also very helpful to remind user and clients to close task on time.

Documents editor on the Go is also very helpful to update records on same platform.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

Dashbaord can be be more professional then its current status.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Task assigned to user and client should be automatically closed when completed by assignee. I have to review one by one every task and close on its completion that takes time.

  ### 16. Editable Work Tab and Task List Make Planning Easy

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Accounting | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 21, 2026

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

Work Tab and Task list are editable and easy to navigate. I like that you can customize which fields are important to see when reviewing tasks and also add status fields applicable to the firm.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

Manual entry of dates is not possible. You have to use more clicks to access sub accounts now. I would like a reporting feature where we could create reports or even have them emailed to management to flag certain uncompleted tasks. A new area that is concerning is that on our recurring templates, some of the dates are not populating for the next task cycle, making me fear that we are missing tasks to be completed.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are now able to track all open tasks amongst Teams and clients

  ### 17. Constantly Improving Features and Excellent Value for Small Firms

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Alex R. | Partner, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 30, 2026

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

The best thing about Canopy is that they are constantly coming out with new features. The new tax delivery beta is excellent. We are a small firm, and the pricing is well worth the investment.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

My only complaint with Canopy is that the billing is not really set up for hourly rates.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

They are solving how I interact with my clients on a day to day basis. Their file storage system is good and can act as a client portal with invoicing all in one.

  ### 18. Great platform for automating your techstack

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Josh K. | Tax Preparer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 23, 2025

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

The user interface is very easy to learn and intuitive, there are a lot of time savers built into the platform in thoughtful places

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

As with any web based CRM, I dislike having to use an extra tool when scanning documents into my Canopy files, but its worth the extra step to have my files located with my client's profile

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Poor adoption of other software by the company's employees
Too many different platforms in our tech stack and none of them can talk to each other

  ### 19. Clean, Intuitive Interface with a Game-Changing E-Sign Feature

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Accounting | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 28, 2026

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

The interface is clean and intuitive, making onboarding straightforward even for less tech-savvy staff members. The e-sign functionality in particular has been a game-changer for getting client documents turned around quickly.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

Not many downsides. I would have liked if you could add your email signature to documentation sent to clients.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Canopy has become an integral part of our firm's workflow. The client portal makes document sharing and e-signatures seamless, and having engagement letters, task management, and billing all in one place has significantly reduced the administrative burden on our team.

The interface is clean and intuitive, making onboarding straightforward even for less tech-savvy staff members.
Overall, Canopy delivers real efficiency gains for small to mid-sized accounting practices and is well worth the investment.

  ### 20. All-in-One Organization with an Exceptionally User-Friendly Layout

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kristie R. | Accountant, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 19, 2025

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

I appreciate having everything organized in one place, with a layout designed to be as user-friendly as possible. I also like the notification system, and how easy it is to share documents with both clients and team members at once.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

The app logs me out several times a day due to inactivity, which can be quite frustrating.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Client document collection is one of the most time inefficient processes in accounting: particularly for monthly bookkeeping. This makes it simple to both collect data and collaborate.

  ### 21. All-in-One Platform That Keeps Our Firm Organized and Efficient

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Consulting | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 22, 2026

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

What I like best about Canopy is that it combines many essential tools for accounting and tax professionals into one platform. I use it for engagement letters, workflow management, the client portal, tax organizers, and secure client messaging, which helps keep my practice organized and efficient.

I also appreciate that the platform is continuously improving. The AI Assistant and Notetaker features look promising, and I’m excited to see future enhancements, especially for the Tax Organizer.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

One area I’d like to see improved is the Tax Organizer experience, as there is still room to make it more streamlined, customizable and flexible for both practitioners and clients.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Canopy helps me centralize many parts of my accounting and tax practice in one place. Instead of using multiple systems, I can manage engagement letters, workflows, client communication, secure document sharing, and tax organizers all within the same platform. This saves time, improves organization, and creates a better experience for both my clients and my practice.

  ### 22. Canopy’s AI and Client Workflow Tools Keep Our Team Organized

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Accounting | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 22, 2026

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

What I like most about Canopy is its AI Intelligence features. They’re already proving to be a big help in streamlining our work and cutting down the time spent on repetitive tasks. I also really value the workflow and client request tools, which make it much easier to track missing information and stay organized, rather than relying on scattered emails and manual follow-ups.

On top of that, having all team communication with a client in one place is especially useful for clients who don’t upload documents directly to the portal. It makes it easier to see what was emailed and helps avoid internal confusion. The main area I’d like to see improved is the communications tab: it could be easier to navigate and filter, and the ability to print or save a specific email directly to the client’s files would make the workflow even smoother.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

What I dislike most about Canopy is the limited integration with Lacerte. Right now, we have to enter information in Canopy and then re-enter the same information in Lacerte. Any time something changes, we also have to manually update both systems, including status changes. This duplicate data entry takes extra time and increases the chance that something gets missed. I’d love to see these two systems truly talk to each other so that changes made in one can be pushed to the other, and so new clients can be pushed from Canopy directly into Lacerte.

I’d also like more flexibility with notes and tasks. It would be very helpful to have important “pop-out” notes that appear when you click into a client and must be acknowledged before continuing, with the option to turn that pop-up off once it’s no longer needed. Being able to clearly attach notes to specific tasks and easily see what they relate to, would make it much easier to keep context. In addition, for tasks and subtasks, I’d like completion tracking to show who actually clicked it complete (not just the original assignee), along with an audit trail showing who marked it complete or unchecked it, so we have better transparency into changes.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The main problems Canopy helps us solve are messy communication, chasing down documents, and not having clear task tracking. Before, information could easily get scattered across different email threads and across different people, which made it hard to know where things stood at any given time. Now, the biggest benefit has been having a centralized communication hub for both internal and external conversations. It gives us one place to see what’s been sent, what’s still outstanding, and who last communicated with the client. That reduces confusion and makes it much easier to keep work moving forward.

  ### 23. **Great Practice Management Tool for Tax and Accounting Firms**

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Accounting | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 21, 2026

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

What I like best about Canopy is that it brings key firm workflows into one place—client management, document requests, task tracking, notices, and communication. For tax and accounting firms, that centralized workflow makes it easier to stay organized, manage deadlines, and provide a smoother client experience.

I also like that it helps reduce back-and-forth with clients by keeping requests, documents, and communication more structured and visible to the whole team.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

What I dislike about Canopy is that some features can feel a bit overwhelming at first, especially for new users who are still learning the platform. There can also be a learning curve when setting up workflows, templates, tasks, and client requests properly.

Another area that could be improved is making some processes more intuitive and faster, especially when navigating between client records, documents, tasks, and communication. Overall, Canopy is useful, but it would be even better with a simpler user experience and more streamlined navigation.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Canopy helps solve the problem of having client information, documents, requests, tasks, and communication scattered across different platforms. It gives the team one central place to manage client work, track status, and stay organized.

The biggest benefit is improved workflow visibility. It is easier to see what still needs to be done, what the client has already provided, and what items are still pending. This helps reduce missed follow-ups, improves accountability, and makes the overall tax and accounting process more efficient.

It also benefits the client experience because document requests and communication are more organized, which reduces confusion and unnecessary back-and-forth.

  ### 24. Streamlined Workflows, But Setup Challenges

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Accounting | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 18, 2025

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

I appreciate how Canopy serves as a comprehensive tool for our firm, facilitating everything from sending engagements and managing workflow tasks to handling client requests, document management, and billing. I find the connectivity it offers invaluable, especially the ability to keep track of client correspondence and knowing exactly where we stand in a client project. My absolute favorite aspect is the reminders feature, which has been a game-changer for us. It significantly reduces the manual effort previously required to track necessary tasks and send email reminders to clients continuously. This not only enhances productivity but also ensures nothing falls through the cracks by keeping all communication within the specific task visible to the entire team. Consequently, no team member needs to specifically remember to follow up with clients about missing information.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

Sometimes, the automations break for no reason.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Canopy for engagement, task management, client communication visibility, and automated reminders, improving workflow and saving time eliminating manual tracking.

  ### 25. Canopy’s Seamless Navigation Makes Updates a Breeze

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Alexis T. | Office Administrator , Accounting, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 21, 2026

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

I love how easy and seamless it is to navigate through Canopy, even when they roll out new updates. It’s straightforward to find my way around on my own, and I can ask questions whenever I need help.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

I think the biggest downfall I’ve run into so far when using Canopy is client access and how troublesome it can be for clients to navigate the portal on their end at home. I wish I had a better way to guide clients through the process, and that creating multiple client accounts felt more seamless and straightforward.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Canopy is currently helping us create client accounts and set up online access, making it a quick and easy place to upload and share documents or send a quick email. It has also improved time management within the office by streamlining these everyday tasks. I can’t wait to see what comes with the new Canopy AI update. I think our time will be even more efficient and effective with the new updates that are about to be released.

  ### 26. Unified CRM & Billing Solution with Room for UI Improvement

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Stephen H. | Accountant, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 18, 2025

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

I love the Canopy mobile platform along with the platform accessible in the client portal. It allows me to reach out to my clients with specific requests, and they can respond easily using their phone or computer. The ability to access information wherever I am makes my work easy to update. It also enables seamless communication with my clients in a familiar location, their client portal. Additionally, Canopy consolidates file management, billing, time tracking, task assignment, client communication, and transcript retrieval, which unifies the platform for me and my team. We can now access shared information, client inputs, uploaded files, and responses to client requests, allowing my remote team to work seamlessly and communicate effectively.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

I would love to see some user interface improvements. Such as a consolidated area on a client page where I can find information and files all at once. I would also like to be able to tag client emails to a specific client.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Canopy to unify CRM, billing, and operations, making it easier for my remote team to access shared information and communicate. The mobile and client portal allow quick client communication, and it consolidates tasks, improving workflow.

  ### 27. All-in-One Client Management with Outstanding Support

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Accounting | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 19, 2025

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

It's an all in one place to work with clients. You can do pretty much any client interaction, get documents, and send signature requests, all within the product. I also appreciate their quick response time to questions and issues, as well as their continual efforts to better the product. They are providing multiple CRM functions under one affordable price, and you only pay for the parts you use. I've rarely seen any downtime, and it's never been significant.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

Sometimes the setup of tasks or automation is clunky. If you're not a computer programmer, it can feel a bit overwhelming. But after you do one or two successfully, it makes more sense. They don't integrate to QB desktop and have no intention towards that, so firms like ours can't use the billing feature.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It makes client communication so much easier, as well as tracking where a tax return is. You can follow it from the moment it's checked in until the filing is complete. You can share documents easily between the client and the firm, and get signatures. They might be putting AI to better use soon so we'll have a more user-friendly, user-specific tax organizer too.

  ### 28. Responsive Support and Centralized Management

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** LouAnn M. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 21, 2026

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

I find it valuable that Canopy allows us to have everything centralized in one place. I really appreciate that their support team is responsive and helpful whenever questions come up, making things more efficient for us. I also like that the software continues to improve with regular updates and new features.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

The ability to customize more would be great. The ability to remove standard task statuses, and a banner at the top of all client pages indicating if there is something urgent all staff members need to be made aware of. Also texting, I know they are implementing the messaging but actual SMS would be nice for clients that don't have the app. Hopefully these things will be coming in the near future.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Canopy centralizes everything in one place, making it more efficient. The responsive support team helps whenever questions arise, and regular updates with new features continually improve the software.

  ### 29. A True Game Changer for Our Medium-Sized Tax Firm

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Accounting

**Reviewed Date:** May 20, 2026

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

What I like best about Canopy is that it has truly delivered on what it promised. For our medium-sized tax firm, it has become a central hub for managing clients, tasks, documents, communication, and workflow. The software is intuitive, reliable, and built around the way a real tax office operates.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

My only real complaint is that Canopy still doesn’t do the dishes or tie my shoes. In all seriousness, the platform is very robust, so it does require an upfront investment of time to set up properly and get your team comfortable with it. But once that foundation is in place, the efficiency gains are well worth the effort.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Canopy is solving several major problems for our firm: scattered client information, inefficient task tracking, document management, client communication, and the administrative burden that comes with tax season. Before Canopy, too many things required manual follow-up or were spread across different systems. Canopy gives us one centralized place to manage client work, track progress, communicate with clients, collect documents, and keep our team on the same page.

The biggest benefit has been efficiency. Over the last two tax seasons, Canopy has helped us save the equivalent of roughly 1.5–2 full-time employees’ worth of administrative time. That has allowed our team to handle a heavy workload with less stress, fewer dropped balls, and better visibility into where every return or project stands. It has made our firm more organized, more scalable, and better equipped to serve clients well during our busiest time of year.

  ### 30. Secure, Client-Friendly Portal with Time-Saving Automated Workflows

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Elizabeth J. | Outsourced Controller, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 27, 2026

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

What I like best about Canopy is its secure, client-friendly portal and automated workflows. Document sharing, e-signatures, task reminders, and engagement tracking save time and improve the client experience.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

It can sometimes be difficult to determine which features are included with my specific license, especially as new capabilities are added. I'd also like to see family/group client structures and a direct Xero integration to better support complex client relationships and firm workflows.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As a very small firm, I really appreciate the automations available in the workflows, the client reminders, and secure client portal. It saves me alot of time and enforces data security with my client data collection, along with the automatic task reminders to clients.

  ### 31. Automating Client Emails That Frees Up My Inbox

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Elizabeth K. | Owner, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 29, 2026

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

I LOVE how I can automate tasks to send emails to clients. I plan on using this next tax season to update clients on the status of their tax return. This should free up my inbox!

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

The ONE thing I do not like about Canopy is how they handle extensions. I have to change the due date; which wouldn't be a problem normally, but when the task rollsforward it rolls with the extended date. So I have to manually change it back to the original due date

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Canopy is very open to feedback so I suspect the issue I have with extensions will be corrected quickly

  ### 32. Canopy Keeps Everything Organized and Streamlines Client Workflows

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Hector Q. | Senior Consulting, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 28, 2026

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

What I like most about Canopy is that it keeps everything organized in one platform. I can securely communicate with clients, collect documents, send engagement letters for electronic signature, and bill clients—all in one place. It streamlines my workflow, saves time, and provides a much better experience for both me and my clients.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

I don’t have the time to fully maximize the app, because I learn so much every time I use it.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Organization and billing.

  ### 33. Centralized Communication with Room for Improvement

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 27, 2026

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

I love how Canopy syncs up with our email, making it easy to see all the emails from our team members to clients without needing to search or ask teammates for emails. It's also great that notes can be easily left in the file and are visible to everyone. I find it helpful that client communications are all in one space and I can track tasks as needed. The email communications being easily available also prevents the duplication of efforts when team members need documents. This aspect of Canopy is really beneficial to me.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

My suggestion for Canopy would be to improve the reports and insights. Sometimes, they don't have full visibility, and we have to manipulate the system to generate the proper information. It's challenging when generating any types of client or task lists. It would be helpful if pulling reports were more intuitive, as filters are useful but not always enough.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Canopy for managing my team's projects and tasks, solving client communication hurdles by centralizing them and tracking tasks effortlessly. It syncs with email, making communications easily accessible, and allows us to leave notes visible to all members.

  ### 34. Centralized Client Management with Efficient Task Automation

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 27, 2026

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

I love that Canopy helps solve the problem of jumping from system to system by keeping client files, notes, tasks, and other details all in one spot. I appreciate how task management has helped our team keep up to date on their tasks. The AI Automation tools have been very useful for renaming files during the busy season. Task management has been particularly helpful with setting up automations, using teams for task assignees, and helping all staff know when things are due and what is needed via the notes section. It was very easy to set up initially and the system was easy for the team to learn.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

I find it challenging that I can't create templates for checklists in the subtask folder. Instead of having to repeatedly type the same checklist, I would love to just use a template to apply it to different subtasks.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We find that Canopy solves the issue of switching between systems by keeping client files, notes, tasks, and other details all in one spot. Task management and AI automation help us stay updated on tasks and efficiently rename files.

  ### 35. Organized, Easy-to-Use Experience with Canopy

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kim T. | Operations Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 28, 2026

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

I enjoy the organization and ease of use.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

I will have to say that the Canopy support team is not great. They do not seem knowledgeable about the product. I get a lot of copy pasted info with no guidance.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Canopy has helped us clearly separate billable hours from admin hours. It’s also made it easier to organize our client files, and overall it feels like a one-stop shop for both staff and clients.

  ### 36. Solid Email Integrations, Fast Support, and Constant Updates

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sarah S. | Accounting Services Coordinator, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 27, 2026

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

The integrations (especially syncing with email) are solid. Support—whether through AI, chat, or email—is very quick and helpful, and they’re constantly updating the system.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

There’s room for improvement in how syncing works. It seems like we periodically run into issues when trying to open documents within Canopy.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The Communication tab has improved a lot. I love that the client messaging function is now up and running, and that Close Automation is currently in beta.

  ### 37. Expectations exceeded

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Julie W. | CPA, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 19, 2025

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

Canopy has seamlessly transformed our firm. I went from a single-member virtual operation with hand-written notes for all of my task lists to a 3-member virtual office. I love the task management and client interface. Our clients love the app.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

I have yet to find any drawbacks for our firm.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I spent a couple of years searching for the right solution for my needs because I didn't want to change if my first choice wasn't a good fit. I was searching for an all-in-one platform to handle client interaction, file transfers, e-signatures, workflow management, and billing. Canopy has managed all of this magnificently.

  ### 38. Simple and Reliable

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Accounting | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 19, 2026

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

I enjoy using Canopy because it simplifies my daily workflow. Having everything in one platform makes it easier to stay organized, keep track of client work, and complete tasks more efficiently. It really helps me save time and stay productive and complete cycles.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

I don’t like that the client can upload the same document multiple times, because it can quickly create unnecessary duplicates and make things feel cluttered.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Canopy has really helped improve how we take in information. We’ve had to do far less scanning because the information is sent directly through Canopy, which makes it easier to review and keep up with.

  ### 39. Automated, Easy Navigation for Company-Wide Client Files BUT initial set up is OVERWHELMING

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Misty D. | Operations, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 27, 2026

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

Automated systems and easy navigation all in one place for company wide client files and correspondence

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

getting workflow, task, etc set up feels overwhelming we had to hire an outside consult , recommended by Canopy, to get our things set up

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

having multi pdfs inside server files that must be completed in Adobe each month is one of the top items we are working toward now

  ### 40. A Comprehensive Solution with Stellar UI and Support

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Robert L. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 28, 2026

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

I really like the user interface and how smoothly the program works. The client portal has gotten a lot of positive feedback. The seamless document sharing and seamless e-signature collection is great as well. Canopy is a more all-in-one solution that ties everything together. We had great support from Canopy during the transition.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

There is a bit of room for improvement on the list filtering. When many filters are added, the results can sometimes be unreliable. I find myself exporting the raw data to Excel to filter.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Canopy centralizes our tax workflow, integrating client management, document storage, and workflow automation into one platform.

  ### 41. Task Automation and Dashboards That Make Engagement Status Crystal Clear

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jeff C. | Auditor, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 27, 2026

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

I like the task automation and the dashboards, where I can quickly see the status of all engagements.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

Not a lot in the way of dislike. There is bit of a learning curve when you first start, but that is no different from any software.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It solves the problem of understanding the status of all engagements, and it works really well as a client portal

  ### 42. Streamlined Tax Management with Excellent Support

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Chelsea C. | Tax Administration Services , Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 01, 2025

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

I like that Canopy is easy to use, and whenever I have a problem, the support team is readily available. It keeps everything organized for clients, and it's easy to upload documents and communicate with team members within Canopy. The task list helps keep the flow going efficiently. The initial setup was very easy, and someone helped with onboarding along with many training videos, which eased the transition.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

I don't like that some things are hard to change or delete. Such as tax organizers or signature documents. You can't do it right on the client profile. Also, I need to learn how to delete old emails and not attach them to certain names because the emails that you originally use are tied to the client's name.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Canopy keeps everything organized for clients, makes document uploading and communication easy, and the task list helps maintain efficiency.

  ### 43. Transformative for Firm Management, Seamless Workflow

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Gail K. | Business Owner--Jack of All Trades--Head Honcho, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 21, 2025

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

I really appreciate how Canopy allows us to manage the firm efficiently by keeping everything where it belongs and ensuring that everyone knows the status of tasks and documents. The workflow tools are fantastic, especially the ability to use subtasks within tasks, which greatly enhances our organization. I enjoy the capability to leave notes for each other, as well as placing client documents on the portal to avoid the need for constantly sending out copies of returns. I love that Canopy is always experimenting and trying out new ideas which not only make learning and improving efficiency enjoyable but also take the repetitive data entry off our hands, giving us more time to engage with our clients. I am impressed by how these innovations allow us to save time and communicate more effectively with the team. Switching to Canopy from ATOM was a smart move for us, as it is more dynamic and comprehensive, letting us consolidate various tools into one. I also find it remarkable that, despite implementing it in the middle of tax season, Canopy's setup was manageable, indicating how well it is designed.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

It can feel a little overwhelming at first, because it offers so many solutions. There's so much to learn, and they're constantly adding new features, so it can be challenging to use all the features, especially at first.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Canopy centralizes firm management, handling workflows, document uploads, and client interactions efficiently. It reduces data entry tasks, freeing up time for client engagements, and ensures team members have visibility of tasks and client documents without using multiple systems.

  ### 44. Easy-to-Use Client Portal and Simple File Sharing

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Accounting | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 27, 2026

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

Client Portal - easy login and viewing portal for clients. Also, provides an easy way for companies to add files (either online or using virtual drive).

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

Always integrating new features, but sometimes will remove current features that are helpful. Their new CRM2 brought many good features, but some simple ones were removed for some reason.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

AI is providing some learning opportunities to speed up the process to onboard client documents and deliver finished returns and receive signatures. Speeding up the process and maintaining efficiency is extremely important to us and we feel Canopy Tax helps in this area.

  ### 45. Accessible, Reliable, and Built for a Smooth Workflow

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Pete M. | VP of Finance, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 27, 2026

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

I like the accessibility, the reliability, and the workflow.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

It can sometimes be overwhelming all the different options and setup. There is a lot to stay on top of, and if you don't have someone full time doing it on staff, it is hard to maximize new features.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Communication with clients, and tracking of client requests have been great benefits.

  ### 46. Easy, efficient - great for solopreneurs

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Accounting

**Reviewed Date:** April 24, 2026

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

I love the dashboard is very intuitive. I was able to get in and start using it almost immediately. The document management system is clear and easy for clients to use, even if they aren't "techy"

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

Sometimes I wish I could make more adjustments to the way things are shared with clients. For instance, I like to use the "questionnaire" format to follow up with document requests because I am able to ask questions and upload documents, but they have usually already received a "questionnaire", so it seems odd that I am sending them another one. That is a specific instance, but things like that pop up that I wish there was slightly more flexibility

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Streamline client communication, tracking requests, organizing all the documents. I also use the timer to be able to start understanding how I am really spending my time

  ### 47. Effortless Task Management and Organization with Canopy

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** vienna c. | Tax Staff Admin, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 18, 2025

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

Canopy has made tax workflow much more organized and efficient for our team. The interface is user-friendly, client communication tools are helpful, and document management keeps everything in one place. It’s streamlined a lot of our tax prep and practice management processes

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

One downside to Canopy is that some features can feel a bit slow or overly complex at times, especially during onboarding. The pricing can also add up quickly as you add more modules and users

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

They are making tons of new updates to make it easier for their users.

  ### 48. Highly Impressed with Canopy

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Accounting

**Reviewed Date:** June 22, 2026

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

What I like best about Canopy is its organization and ease of use. The file management system keeps client documents well-organized and easy to locate, which helps streamline daily workflows. The task management features are clear and intuitive, making it simple to track progress and stay on top of deadlines. I also appreciate the user-friendly interface and color-coded design, which make navigation efficient and visually appealing. Overall, Canopy helps keep our work organized, structured, and easy to manage.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

One area for improvement is occasional file-related issues that can arise from time to time. However, these issues are typically resolved very quickly by the support team, minimizing any disruption to our workflow. Overall, while technical issues occasionally occur, the prompt response and resolution help maintain a positive user experience.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Canopy helps solve one of the biggest challenges in our workflow: team collaboration and organization. By clearly organizing tasks, responsibilities, and client information in one place, everyone knows exactly what they are responsible for and what needs to be completed. This improves accountability, reduces confusion, and helps ensure that work is completed efficiently and on time. The clear task management system also makes it easier to monitor progress across the team and keep projects moving forward smoothly.

  ### 49. Streamlined Our Tax Practice with Efficient Client Document Management

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Shawn R. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 27, 2026

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

I like how Canopy allows me to make documents visible to clients through a portal instead of sending them via email. This feature is really convenient because I can simply drag and drop the documents, making the process quick and easy.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

I sometimes can't expand columns in order to see the whole description of something, and I think it took several months to get it set up.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Canopy to track and manage documents in one app, enabling client access through a portal instead of email. It's quick and easy, with drag-and-drop functionality.
