"AI-less video editor"
2.5/5
What do you like best about Camtasia?

I've been using Descript to edit videos with AI and it's so simple. And this is the downside of Camtasia - it can't do any of these. Camtasia is no longer the go-to for me. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Camtasia?

Include AI in its editing capabilities. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Brent Beckman of Camtasia

Hi James,

Thanks for your feedback and for sharing your experience. While Camtasia approaches video creation differently than Descript, we do offer a growing set of AI features, including AI-generated avatars, voices, scripts, translations, captions, and more. Camtasia is also designed specifically for screen recording, software demos, tutorials, and training content where precise control over on-screen elements is critical.

One quick clarification: TechSmith currently offers a 14-day money-back guarantee, so customers can evaluate Camtasia and request a refund within that period if it's not the right fit. We appreciate your feedback as we continue to invest in both AI-powered and traditional editing workflows.

"Efficient and User-Friendly Video Creation Tool"
5/5
What do you like best about Camtasia?

I use Camtasia for creating instructional videos, and I like how it's very easy to work with and how quickly I can learn to make really good videos with it. I appreciate the built-in templates and elements that help me create impressive video effects fast. The design process in Camtasia is really easy. Since we are in a fast-paced organization, the speed and ease of use are really beneficial. There are also many assets available to use, which I find valuable. Overall, the usability of Camtasia is great, and there's nothing that stands out to me as not working well. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Camtasia?

It might not be sufficient for more advanced needs, but for instructional videos in eLearning projects it was more than enough. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Intuitive, Medium-Weight Editor That Delivers Professional Results"
4.5/5
What do you like best about Camtasia?

Camtasia is a great medium-weight editing tool for content creators. It's interface is very intuitive to use, and you can accomplish most of your video editing needs with just this one platform. It's not as complicated as using editing tools like Adobe Premiere and Final Cut Pro. Camtasia gives me the desired professional results that I need with my videos. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Camtasia?

Sometimes Camtasia can be a bit buggy with audio when I'm editing it...I can hear where the edits occur with crackles in the audio. Also, some of the transitions don't look professional, so I tend to use only basic fades. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Easy and Reliable Tool for Creating Professional Training Videos"
5/5
What do you like best about Camtasia?

What I like best about Camtasia is how easy it makes screen recording and video editing in one place. The interface is beginner-friendly, but it still has enough powerful features like annotations, callouts, cursor effects, transitions, voiceover, and quizzes to create polished training or tutorial videos. It saves a lot of time because I do not need to switch between multiple tools for recording, editing, and exporting. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Camtasia?

The main thing I dislike about Camtasia is that it can feel a bit heavy on system resources, especially when working with longer videos or multiple media elements. Some advanced editing features are also not as flexible as dedicated professional video editors. The pricing may feel high for occasional users, but for regular training or tutorial creation, it is still a very useful tool. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Camtasia's Simplicity for All Skill Levels - Training Experts"
5/5
What do you like best about Camtasia?

I would honestly say one of the best things is the ease of use. A lot of programs require extensive editing skills to create a polished and professional video. Camtasia does a really great job of keeping the user interface simple. It has a lot of additional features that are easy to integrate into your videos. This was something that our team could pick up and start using right away, rather than having to take a lot of time teaching people advanced editing skills. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Camtasia?

It would be helpful if maybe there was a mode where those who do have more advanced editing skills could get into a more advanced userface. It seemed like some features were pay-locked behind higher level subscriptions. This makes it difficult for companies to really do everything they need to when multiple tiers of subscriptions limit/enhance the experience. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Comprehensive Video Creation Made Easy"
5/5
What do you like best about Camtasia?

I use Camtasia to create software training videos, demonstrations, and YouTube content. Camtasia helps me complete the entire recording project using one application and provides effects that clearly show viewers where I am clicking and what I am selecting with zooming, annotations, captions, and other visual elements. It includes a wide range of assets that I can use in my projects without navigating to other websites. Camtasia gives me the editing tools I need without being as overwhelming as some professional video-editing programs. You can create a basic video fairly quickly, but there are also plenty of features to explore. The initial setup was easy, although the challenge lies in learning how to use the features without overdoing them. I recommend using TechSmith's learning resources to gradually add new features with each project. Finally, I really appreciate that, as the solo business owner of TRACCreations4e, I have a reliable application that lets me record, edit, and produce my videos without needing a full production team. I rank Camtasia and TechSmith's entire product line a 10, and I regularly recommend Camtasia to trainers, educators, and content creators who want to record, edit, and produce professional videos without using multiple applications for a single project. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Camtasia?

One of my biggest frustrations is that I cannot work on active Camtasia projects from an external drive. My active projects must be stored on my local drive while I am editing and producing them. Video files are large, so this can quickly become a storage-capacity hog. I created my own workflow to move completed projects to an external drive, but I would prefer more flexibility when deciding where my active projects are stored. Active Camtasia projects can use a large amount of local storage, especially when they include screen recordings, camera footage, audio, and other effects and assets. I would like the option to work directly from a fast external drive or choose where Camtasia stores project files, recordings, and temporary files. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Simple Video Editing with Great Recording, Effects, and Helpful Tutorials"
5/5
What do you like best about Camtasia?

It makes editing videos really simple and straightforward. The built-in recording is great, and there’s a wide range of effects to use. The integrations with Snagit and Audiate are incredibly useful as well. It’s very good value for money and has everything I need for my role. The help site is also genuinely helpful, with clear tutorial videos that make it easy to find what I need. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Camtasia?

It sometimes crashes when I’m editing a huge file, but it’s rare. It also autosaves, so I’ve never lost any work. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Cost-Effective Tool for Publishing Screen Capture and PPT-Based Courses"
4.5/5
What do you like best about Camtasia?

It is cost effective and functionality-wise it has most of what would be needed to publish a screen capture based and ppt-content based online course Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Camtasia?

1. Though SCORM content can be published, the UI skins have limited options (only 2). The UI of Captivate or Articulate should be benchmarked. Similarly Quiz is a possible, but double looping and different feedback during first attempt and second attempt is not possible. Many customers ask for it.

2. There are many annotations but all of them look alike. (many call outs, etc). Upon mouseover, it should describe the annotations. This is will help in faster production time. This applies to all other tabs.

3. Some basic formatting functions like Bullets, Indentation, etc to be added. Again another productivity driver.

4. Camtasia doesn't currently support SVG file. Ability to upload and edit SVG content to build animations will be very useful. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"User-Friendly Video Editing with Room for Improvement"
3.5/5
What do you like best about Camtasia?

I find Camtasia to be really user-friendly with the specific option to save on a timeline, which helps when editing corporate videos. The multimedia option is great too, as it lets me find everything in one place. I also appreciate the option of organizing everything in folders, which helps me work better on different projects at the same time without cluttering my computer. I can easily reuse different contents, effects, videos, and text. The setup was really easy, similar to other tools we use for editing. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Camtasia?

When I'm editing a video in Camtasia and trying to add a transition or effect, I often have to close and reopen it because it doesn't work as it should. It seems like it might be a bug or something because sometimes, when I've added a lot of media into the timeline, I reach a point where I can't add any more transitions or effects. It's frustrating to have to close and open it again just to make it work. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Powerful, Approachable Do-It-All Screen Recording and Editing with Camtasia"
5/5
What do you like best about Camtasia?

Camtasia provides a powerful but still approachable interface for screen recording, creating instructional panels and narrations, working with video and audio clips, and adding engagement through different functions. The tool has way more capability than most people use, so there's always something new to learn and put into play in different types of projects.

I integrate it with SnagIt, PowerPoint, and different image and audio resource sites to come up with exciting and interesting outcomes. The cost is entirely reasonable considering that it saves us big money over going outside to designers, and Techsmith has amazingly good tutorials and community resources to help us learn.

New functions include AI-generated voices, scripts, and editing tools. This makes the overall performance of the tool even more impressive, and new features are rolled out frequently. It's a real do-it-all environment. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Camtasia?

It can be a resource-intensive tool that your hardware has to accommodate, and at times performance can drag. It would be nice if there was a way to switch off certain functionality that may not be useful in order to streamline the application requirements. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
