What do you dislike about Camtasia? I see the original starter version is $39/yr but everything you create is watermarked. However, the plan I use (Essentials) is now $180. So the price has increased to a point where I would not pay for an upgrade. If I am just screen capturing (which BTW does not work on some streaming services like Apple, Paramount+, etc.), I use the Windows Snipping tool. You can even trim it before you save it. Camtasia has a wonderful interface that is so easy to understand and use. Sharing files and making branded updates is very easy with team members and external organizations. Pricing is reasonable and I have always found answers to my questions with support very easily. I have not ventured into the AI/Intelligence side of the platform, so no feedback on that. On occasion, finding a feature can be tricky, but I usually just look it up and am able to find it no problem! Export time can take awhile, naturally. I use Camtasia for producing training materials using PowerPoint and video, and for voiceovers and translation into foreign languages. I really like the ease of use and the ability to edit video with powerful transitions and the ability to add subtitles. Creating training courses for learning management systems is very helpful, especially with users speaking different languages. The closed caption subtitles that can be toggled on or off are particularly useful. Camtasia was fairly easy to install with no problems. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What do you dislike about Camtasia? The integration with Audiate could be improved because they seem like two separate programs, and Audiate creates a lot of files. Ease of use, just works out of the box and no setup needed. Basic setup is sufficient for most of my work and the onboarding is very smooth with a clean UX for even a new user. Background video remover is easy to use and superimposing my video over the background with basic cuts is easy. Pricing is reasonable and works well for my use case. So might still need to go back to those for higher quality produced content. AI tools are still in early stages and would need more refinement over time. I don't actively use them much right now. I do miss the ability to integrate some of my existing AI tools and bring over skills from say Claude to help with edits the way I do with remotion for example. Educational content, quick explainer videos and general social media content in education. The main product feature is the ability to quick remove background and do edits to get to a place without needing a dedicated editor. The performance has also been smooth without needing dedicated high-end hardware. It works very smooth on a Macbook Air and removes the need for expensive graphics cards of other editors. Integrating Audiate let me edit my voice track as if it were a text document—quickly removing filler words and awkward pauses—and then sync everything seamlessly back into Camtasia. The canvas tools also made it simple to maintain professional, consistent branding across all my videos with custom intro/outro slides, lower-third titles for formulas, and crisp screen-zoom annotations that keep students tightly focused on specific cells. I’ve used multiple versions of Camtasia over the years, and I’m currently on the latest Pro subscription. I really appreciate the assets Techsmith makes available both on their website and directly within Camtasia. The templates and pre-made components, like animated titles, are especially helpful for quickly putting together training videos for my job. I consistently receive glowing feedback from my company on the quality of the videos I’m able to produce with Camtasia. The wide variety of transitions, the ability to create custom animations, the pre-designed behaviors, and the annotation highlights are all tremendously useful. Together, they help me build training content that looks polished, stays engaging, and is genuinely useful—these are easily among my favorite Camtasia features. I wish that, when I need to insert an element into a layer, I had the ability to manually slide all content across all layers at the same time. One very nifty thing is the new AI noise removal tool for recorded audio/narration. I'm not sure exactly how new it is, but the previous noise reduction tool was pretty limited. This AI version works a treat, and it's actually saving me a bunch of time exporting my WAV files to Goldwave to apply noise reduction. Then I'd usually export the updated audio files to MP3 and reimport them into Camtasia. Then I still had to manually replace the WAVs with the MP3s on the timeline. Now there's just no need for ANY of that, because I just select all audio files on the timeline and apply the one audio effect, and it's done. No muss, no fuss. There are still plenty of quirks, minor bugs, and questionable designs, as before. Most of them haven't been improved but I haven't noticed any new ones lately--at least not with the Windows version. It's great for creating polished tutorial videos for software, web applications, and games. I've been using Camtasia for many years and when I try other competing products, I find them less intuitive, lacking features, or both. Camtasia is an excellent product that is easy to learn and rich with features. I can almost always figure out how to make videos look the way I want with transitions, audio tracks, and as many layers as I need to create some fun content. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What do you dislike about Camtasia? Sadly, Camtasia's premium features are now available only to those willing to purchase a recurring subscription. I even called to see if I could bolt on Audiate and maintain my one-time user license, but that isn't the case. I understand recurring revenue and SAAS is kind of the way to go for tech companies, but I was really sad to be a long-time user who has purchased multiple licenses and maintenance agreements over the years, as well as promoting the product and getting other licensed users for them, only to be told that my past purchases didn't really matter, and the only way to have access to the "new and best" of Camtasia was to become a subscriber. I'll still use my last purchased license of Camtasia, but it is likely there are other products that would meet my needs, have the premium features I am looking for, and cost less, when the time comes to upgrade.
