## Astro by Astronomer Reviews
 ### 1. Excellent developer and customer experience

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Juan Roberto H. | coCTO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 08, 2023

**What do you like best about Astro by Astronomer?**

We migrated away to GCP Composer due to their credits offerings. We're a small startup and really needed every possible financial relief we could get, otherwise we wouldn't have done so. We really miss the great UX/DX.
And even when we were migrating, Astronomer generously extended our payed-credits usage beyond the contract so we could **migrate away from them without so much pressure**, and this we never asked for, it was their own proactive offering!!
We will probably come back once our GCP credits run out :)

**What do you dislike about Astro by Astronomer?**

Previously I had as a con their pricing, but I think I need a correction here. Their pay-as-you-go option without dedicated clusters is very reasonably priced.

**What problems is Astro by Astronomer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Extremely easy and user-friendly to maintain Airflow environments with the latest releases readily available and top Airflow contributors giving you support

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mayara A. | Data Analytics & BI Intern, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 06, 2025

**What do you like best about Astro by Astronomer?**

Astro makes managing Airflow in our data analytics workflows incredibly smooth. It takes away the pain of infrastructure management, allowing us to focus on building insights instead of firefighting. The UI is clean, monitoring is straightforward, and scaling is effortless. I also appreciate the reliability – critical pipelines just run without constant babysitting. For our team, this has been a huge productivity boost.

**What do you dislike about Astro by Astronomer?**

There’s not much to dislike. Sometimes the learning curve for new team members can be steep because of Airflow concepts, but that’s not really Astro’s fault. If anything, I’d like to see even more built-in templates or best-practice guides for common data analytics use cases.

**What problems is Astro by Astronomer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

What problems is Astro by Astronomer solving and how is that benefiting you?
Astro is helping our FP&A data analytics team orchestrate and automate workflows that used to take a lot of manual effort. By running Airflow on Astro, we can easily move and transform data from Redshift into clean, reliable tables that power our dashboards and financial reports. This has made it much faster to build charts and insights that our business leaders rely on. The biggest benefit is consistency and trust in the data — processes run smoothly, without constant maintenance, and we spend more time analyzing results instead of fixing pipelines.

 ### 5. Excellent support

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Angel O. | Machine Learning Engineer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 29, 2025

**What do you like best about Astro by Astronomer?**

Astronomer has significantly improved how our team manages Airflow. What I appreciate most is the support—they are consistently available to answer our questions and offer practical guidance. Previously, we had to handle our own Airflow instance, which required a lot of preparation, learning, and time for every update. Now, with Astronomer, updates occur more frequently and seamlessly, allowing us to access the latest features without the complexity we faced before.

**What do you dislike about Astro by Astronomer?**

What I don’t like as much is that some features are still not fully supported. For example, Dataline or having an interface to better understand why certain pods are not starting, which can make troubleshooting more challenging in some cases.

**What problems is Astro by Astronomer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

In my case, the latest Airflow use case I’m working on with Astro is building a CI/CD workflow for ML models (MLOps). This includes model validation, integration testing, and deployment, all orchestrated smoothly through Airflow. Astro's managed platform makes it easier to maintain the Airflow instance with continuous updates and solid support, which helps ensure reliability and reduces downtime while I focus on delivering robust ML pipelines in production. This operational simplification benefits productivity and reduces the risk of pipeline failures due to infrastructure issues.

 ### 8. Great for getting started with Airflow without worrying about infra setup

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Maritime | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 15, 2025

**What do you like best about Astro by Astronomer?**

I started using Astro at my company back in 2021, focusing on Astro Hybrid deployments. Setting up a reliable Airflow cluster with proper networking and load balancing can be a complex task. Astronomer's Astro Hybrid product, however, significantly reduces the DevOps workload involved in maintaining the cluster, while still allowing you and your organization to keep control over your infrastructure and data. This lets you spend more time on what really matters: developing Airflow DAG code.

Additionally, it's straightforward to spin up or tear down Airflow clusters as needed for development purposes, which is especially helpful for comprehensive end-to-end or staging tests.

**What do you dislike about Astro by Astronomer?**

While the support team is generally helpful, I've noticed that response times for support tickets have become increasingly slow, likely due to a growing customer base. Support is especially limited during East Asia timezones, where it can feel almost non-existent.

Additionally, when dealing with more complex issues, the responses to support tickets can sometimes be vague, even when I've provided all the necessary context in my initial request. I recognize that it's challenging to address complicated problems thoroughly, particularly when communication involves both support engineers and developers. For these more involved cases, if your company has access to a dedicated Slack channel shared with Astronomer developers, I recommend using it. This direct line of communication can make it much easier to resolve issues efficiently.

**What problems is Astro by Astronomer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Astro streamlines the often tedious process of setting up infrastructure with Airflow, allowing you to concentrate on what truly matters for your business: writing DAG code and deploying changes to production more efficiently.

 ### 37. Excelent Airflow as a Service Platform

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Diogo F. | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 18, 2024

**What do you like best about Astro by Astronomer?**

With Astronomer we don't need to worry about the infrastructure, everything is abstracted to us, we just need to click a few times to implement a new deployment (very easy) access the Astronomer UI, and start doing things. This improved our team's speed to develop new solutions a lot! Astronomer became our daily tool for workflow management. Avoiding wasting time with deployments and machines and focusing on what is truly important, the business. Having the most recent version of airflow available one day after the release is a plus, we can count on the bug fixes and new features as fast as possible (faster than if we had our airflow solution or any other SaaS). The airflow support team has helped us to unblock many problems, most of them about how Airflow works and the best use of the tool, also we were able to deploy easily every single integration that we use with our current cloud provider.

**What do you dislike about Astro by Astronomer?**

Astronomer still lacks some "premium features", something that is not available at opensource version of Airflow. I know that we have some extra tools like lineage (this one needs a lot more of attention from astronomers team to be something easy and valid to use) and the "cloud ide" which is a great idea however needs more completeness, for example it lacks the ability to simply install private libraries or connect with macro functions (like jinja) from our SQL definition.

**What problems is Astro by Astronomer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Astronomer is our main workflow tool. We use it for all the data pipelines that we create. Orchestrating every data transformation using SQL + Jinja and with Redshift as a data warehouse, we are able to run 100% of our data platform workflows inside Astronomer. The new pricing model based not on task execution but in resources usage was a game change for us! Now we can create dags as they should, using all the best practices.

 ### 38. Data Scientist using Astronomer for custom ETLs and ML

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Games | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 19, 2024

**What do you like best about Astro by Astronomer?**

I like that it is flexible, well documented, has good support. Its UI is pleasing too. It's fast, allows to schedule lots differents jobs by nature (data engineering, ML models, MLOps, etc). It's overall a fantastic orchestration service.

**What do you dislike about Astro by Astronomer?**

I wish it was easier to see duration of each task over the recent runs.

I also wish we didn't have to have all our ETLs in one github repository as it makes going from dev to prod messy at times.

I would love to see even more training for new people. As an experienced user it clearly has a high learning curve and find myself having to explain stuff a lot to people!

Quite a lot of breaking changes with google dependencies especially - can be quite time consuming to just maintain the instances running despite no changes to code.

**What problems is Astro by Astronomer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Primarily it is a simple interface to orchestrate jobs on GCP - that's it. It allows me to run big data jobs fluidly, and allows me to easily see when a job hasn't run.

 ### 39. Stable Platform with good service

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Neeraj V. | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 17, 2023

**What do you like best about Astro by Astronomer?**

I like the fact that they have come a long way from being a startup supporting opensource airflow to becoming an enterprise focusing on what their customers want. They have a history of feature rich development to provide best cutomer support. Their dev and production enviornment deployment via CI/CD provide an ease of implementation and integration of Airflow for their customers. I find the system easy to use that gives me confidence. They had their ups and downs as an orgination but they have come a long way from there. I am happy to say Fanduel 's decion to use Astronomer has proven to be a good success.

**What do you dislike about Astro by Astronomer?**

There are no major problems in using Astro but some quirks here and there. Overall I like the way they are building the product and support Airflow.

**What problems is Astro by Astronomer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

They are providing a stable platform on Kubernetes to run our big workload orchestration of around thousand data piplines and they are doing a very good job.

 ### 40. Great product and collaboration

The experience of using astronomer for the migration of existing DAGs and new developments has been great, and all positive.

**What problems is Astro by Astronomer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Migration of existing pipelines to Astronomer and continuing new development using Astronomer

 ### 41. Best Way to take the pain out of Airflow

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Michael V. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 26, 2023

**What do you like best about Astro by Astronomer?**

I've worked with Airflow for the last 6 year, both administering it myself and using managed services like AWS MWAA. In my opinion Astronomer is the only feasible managed service currently available for Airflow. It's the first managed service I've used that does not entail a surprising number of performance bugs even when used only as an orchestration engine (which generally deferable functionality has resolved), and the only approach I would recommend if you want to also use it as an execution engine in its own right. In our use case, our per deployment costs were cut in half relative to AWS MWAA. Additionally it greatly increases ease of use, so non-engineering teams can make use of it with minimal need for engineering staff once it's set up.

Additionally, customer service is excellent. Always a response time proportional to the level of severity, and even complex bug fixes (generally caused by underlying Airflow libraries, not Astronomer itself) that have popped up had tested fixes available within a few days. If you're using Airflow for a non-trivial, production workload and not managing the cluster yourself, I don't think there's any other way to go than Astronomer.

**What do you dislike about Astro by Astronomer?**

Typical painpoints of using a managed service and the limited access that entails, particularly around the shared-compute cluster options and lack of CLI access to remote deployments. That they're serious about addressing with developing new features to ease these painpoints shows they take issues of access more seriously than most managed service providers (Airflow-based and beyond).

**What problems is Astro by Astronomer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Complex orchestration of all data ingestion and processing at our company, which ingests data from numerous third party media entities and internally-owned web applications. Will also soon be used in orchestrating MLOps platform

 ### 42. Best product for a startup

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Hannah L. | Senior Software Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 28, 2023

**What do you like best about Astro by Astronomer?**

When working at a startup with limited resources, we don't have time to worry about self-managing Airflow. Astronomer enabled us to get started with Airflow very quickly without the hassel of setting it up ourselves or worrying about as much maintenance. The customer support is amazing. The field engineer assigned to us is very smart and proactive to make sure all of our requirements are met.

**What do you dislike about Astro by Astronomer?**

Nothing to dislike. I've worked at companies where we self-hosted Airflow which was such a hassel. Astronomer makes everything so much easier.

**What problems is Astro by Astronomer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

-Don't have to worry about self-hosting
-Less time spent on maintenance
-Local development is so easy
-Deployment processes is very quick and efficient
-Very easy to update requirements
-Thorough documentation

 ### 43. Great option for easy Airflow

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 31, 2023

**What do you like best about Astro by Astronomer?**

Easy to implement and maintain. Setup is pretty quick and the painful parts of managing Airflow are removed. Deploying and upgrading are simple. Also very easy to get a local environment up and running, which is a big win. The Docker based deployments make it easy to test out version upgrading locally before deploying. Astro CLI is great for implementing a CI/CD process.

Customer service team has been great to work with - very responsive and quick to escalate to more technical team members as needed.

Overall a great option for easy Airflow deployment - I can mostly forget about the infrastrcuture and just focus on pipeline development.

**What do you dislike about Astro by Astronomer?**

Astronomer has rolled out a few new features and/or products over the past year or so that have looked great in the marketing material and demos, but have been less impressive under the hood. Cloud IDE being the latest. Great potential, just still a bit half baked and not worth encorporating on my current project (yet). Great to see Astro consistently working towards value adding features though.

Relatively high price - probably wouldn't be worth it for smaller use cases or companies.

**What problems is Astro by Astronomer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Managing Airflow - relatively pain free via Astronomer. Great support from their team to helps with any issues - nice to be able to take advantage of their Airflow expertise and experience.

Overall improves Airflow ease of use - in comparison to self managed or other managed options.

 ### 44. Astronomer made running Airflow easy

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Waqar A. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 08, 2023

**What do you like best about Astro by Astronomer?**

I can solely focus on my development without worrying about infra side issues. Before moving to Astronomer, most of my time spent searching about 'Task not getting queued', 'Zombie processes' 'Scheduler not running'... nad never got enough time for development. Astronomer made it super easy for me. That's why this is the third project I'm doing where I've recommended Astronomer to the client as a freelancer in their team.

**What do you dislike about Astro by Astronomer?**

I never got anything bad up until now. Just also wanted have access to Airflow side CLI to execute certain commands which I sometimes need for stuff like bulk backfilling etc. And very recently had an issue with getting in touch with support with one of my query.

**What problems is Astro by Astronomer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

All the developers in the team only focus on development. We only had to spend time to setup CI/CD once and everything is sorted now. We never have to manually check if Airflow is up, scheduler and workers are running. Also local setup is extremely simple with just like 3 commands to spin up your personal Airflow instance locally. Save so much time.

 ### 45. If you have the capital, it's the best of the bunch

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Retail | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 28, 2023

**What do you like best about Astro by Astronomer?**

Of the three best known managed Airflow options (MWAA, Cloud Composer, Astronomer), I think Astronomer is the most streamlined and easy-to-use. The Docker image/runtime is well thought out, and the hybrid managed Dataplane option has sensible ways of doing things and removes the burden of maintaining the deployment. I love the Astro CLI and how easy it is to customize the base Airflow image they provide. The docs are good and they are closest to the actual core Airflow community.

**What do you dislike about Astro by Astronomer?**

Pricier than the other two, but IMO the extra features are well worth it. Charging by task run also requires care. Outside of pricing/cost though... it's great. I gave them a 9 instead of a 10 because of the cost.

**What problems is Astro by Astronomer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Workflow orchestration/data pipelines.

 ### 46. Streamlining Data Workflow Excellence: Perspective Astronomer for Airflow DAG Management

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Lorenzo C. | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 09, 2023

**What do you like best about Astro by Astronomer?**

Astronomer has transformed my data pipeline journey as a software engineer. Its intuitive interface and drag-and-drop functionality make designing and troubleshooting Airflow DAGs a breeze. Real-time visualization offers quick insights into DAG runs, enhancing monitoring. Collaborative features and scalability seal the deal, making it a must-have tool for managing projects of any size.

**What do you dislike about Astro by Astronomer?**

While Astronomer is a game-changer, there's room for growth. New users might face a slight learning curve despite the user-friendly interface. Expanding the range of pre-built operators would add flexibility. Although the documentation is decent, more detailed guides, especially for advanced features, would be a welcome addition. Overall, refinement in these areas would enhance the experience even more.

**What problems is Astro by Astronomer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Simplifies complex DAG management, provides real-time monitoring and visualization, help us collaborate and do version control, make the growing workloads scalable, and make troubleshooting and debugging more efficient

 ### 47. Using Astronomer for 12 months in a data engineering team

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Silvia H. | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 09, 2023

**What do you like best about Astro by Astronomer?**

The fact that it is a SaaS lets our team focus on the coding side; it is quite simple to start using Airflow as you can skip all the initial setups. This is particularly useful for those teams that started using Python and are more distant from the infra side (i.e. data Scientists, analysts, etc.).

**What do you dislike about Astro by Astronomer?**

I feel that the monitoring dashboard is not rich enough in all circumstances so that we can fully understand possible issues there. For instance, there is no option for accessing KubernetesPod settings alongside our cloud account.

**What problems is Astro by Astronomer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It has become a powerful resource in the team to quickly deploy Python scripts, being our use cases mainly focused on ETL pipelines. It is also easy for us to provide a workspace to other teams so that they can run their scripts easily too.

 ### 48. Astronomer Powered Airflow

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Karthik D. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 05, 2023

**What do you like best about Astro by Astronomer?**

Ease of setting up and launching Airflow in production. Suits well for teams which have limited data engineering capacity and allows to focus more on the business logic for the pipelines.

**What do you dislike about Astro by Astronomer?**

Have been using the product for 3 months now. I do not see any limitations per se with the Astro itself. It used to have very limited functionality for integrating dbt projects but with the latest release, this concern is addressed.

**What problems is Astro by Astronomer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Astro is solving the major pain point of managing the Airflow instance and allowing users to focus on the actual pipelines. This allowed us to go live in production for our data workload automation in a very short time. ~ 1 Month

- Astro is a very easy-to-use platform.
- The Astro CLI makes it simple to manage your Airflow deployments from the command line, and the Astro UI is user-friendly and well-designed
-. Being a Managed platform developer can more focus on providing business solutions.

**What do you dislike about Astro by Astronomer?**

Costing is sometimes not transparent and the COSMOS library is still something we can do and add new features as it is restricted on to DBT and hoping it can also give addition view if added for DLT tables.

**What problems is Astro by Astronomer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Astro helps to develop the pipeline with minimal effort which give the best view of DAG in web UI. also being 24/7 support the issues and clarification are being rectified.
