I like how the audit model configuration in AppZen is very easy to do. Plus, we have access to some audit models which are very much needed in our area, especially the expense report verification and receipt verification model which works on the OCR logic. These features make it easy and convenient to use. The configuration doesn't require much technical knowledge and it's simple to modify settings. It really takes care of identifying unauthorized expenses and unauthorized merchants that we as humans might not recognize. The capability of reading each word on receipts to identify all line items is a huge plus. After the feedback in Appzen tool, we see system learns and adopts as per new changes. I find the customer support isn't great. The agents often only know the basics and don't understand the back-end workings. Plus, the response time is very late when it needs to be escalated to the engineering team. There are slight performance issues, especially with the integration with our Concur system. We often find that the ingestion of reports between Concur and AppZen doesn't happen every two hours as expected. Additionally, if any changes are made by other approvers after employee submission and before the report is ingested, they don't always get updated in the system. If we need to recall and resubmit, it takes more than four to five hours to sync with Concur, which is a hassle. I like AppZen because it combines automation with intelligence, which significantly reduces the manual effort involved in reviewing expense claims. It ensures that potential policy violations, duplicate claims, and unusual transactions are brought to our attention. I appreciate how customizable AppZen is, and how much access we have as system admins to configure the rule set and other configurations. The platform helps us identify the transactions and claims that genuinely require attention, allowing the team to focus on higher risk items rather than spending time reviewing every expense manually. The analytics and dashboards are a bit overwhelming because there's a phenomenal amount of data and information. Also, the filters could be improved to have default settings for regions, currency, and policy and should remember these settings as I navigate between dashboards. AppZen's AI Agents are a game changer compared to traditional models. They can validate complex SOP and policy checks that basic automation often misses. While AppZen delivers strong automation capabilities, the standard T&E models feel limited when compared to the AI Agents. The AI Agents provide much deeper analysis and can validate complex SOP requirements more effectively. Because of the value they deliver, I believe AI Agents should be included as a core capability rather than a premium option. The cost of AI Agents is currently quite high, which can make adoption challenging for some organizations. It is integrated with Concur with no problems and implementation was painless. What I like is its AI-powered 100% audit coverage for expenses. Duplicates are easy to identify. I also like the “request more information” feature because it makes our job easier and helps us avoid sending reports back and forth. Appzen goes through the first round of the validation process, which helps us save time. We recently expanded this tool to other regions, the performance of this tool is good. Our CSM partner and the support team also help us with their insights; since they are the subject matter experts for the tool, we’re able to be more strategic and adjust our policies so we can make the best use of it. It isn’t able to identify figures handwritten on receipts which should be resolved as it can improve the auto approval rates. New user interface doesn't look appealing to me the old version was still better. The rejection reason template created was of no use as we cannot modify the wordings and if we do the header disappears which should be fixed. Sometimes Appzen does not flag certain expenses such as non itemized receipts where we feel the risk is high as the report can be auto approved with errors. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Appzen is our solution provider for T&E auditing and for inbound document processing of Accounts Payable invoices. Both solutions play an important role in supporting our global corporate growth strategies and help us maintain consistency as we scale. AppZen’s governance methodology and tools will need to mature as the company continues to grow. They should provide a transparent release strategy that helps control risk for every client as changes are made to the core product. The only downside I have experienced is the one-way flow of data from our expense submission tool to AppZen. Any changes or modifications made to an expense report after it has been submitted are not synchronized back to AppZen, resulting in AppZen reflecting outdated information. Changes to models are sometimes not communicated prior, which cause difficulties at the consumer's end. Eg. the format of the report, the structural change causes issues in the power bi tools wherein the reports are linked, thereby causing a disruption. Considering the size of transactions in our organization, it is able to identify anomalies and do a better job than the managers who were previously approving these reports.
