# Is Google Cloud Tools for IntelliJ worth it for software engineers managing multi-cloud infrastructure?

Feature: Google Cloud Tools for IntelliJ provides in-IDE deployment to App Engine standard and flexible environments, built-in debugging for local and remote Kubernetes clusters, Cloud Run integration with local emulator support, YAML editing with schema validation, and a Cloud MySQL database tool for querying databases from within the same interface.

Integration: The plugin extends the full JetBrains IDE family — GoLand, PyCharm, WebStorm, and others — making it relevant for polyglot engineering teams that use different languages across services. One reviewer credits Kubernetes support as the standout integration, streamlining cloud-native development across containerised workloads.

How long did the initial configuration take, did the authentication stay stable across CLI updates, and at what point did the plugin start delivering a net time saving versus manual CLI operations?

Oh to be honest, it depends how "multi" your multi-cloud really is. Google Cloud Tools for IntelliJ is rated 4.4 on G2 and it's genuinely handy if you're developing and deploying to Google Cloud from IntelliJ, things like App Engine, GKE and debugging GCP resources without leaving the IDE. But the honest catch is right there in the name, it's a Google Cloud plugin, so it only covers the GCP slice of a multi-cloud setup. If you're also running AWS or Azure, this isn't a single pane for all of it, you'd pair it with each provider's own tooling or a cloud-agnostic layer. So worth it if you're GCP-heavy and live in IntelliJ, less so if you wanted one tool to rule all your clouds. How much of your stack is actually on GCP versus the others?
