With their machine-learning-based transcription service, Amberscript developed an amazing product that changes the scope of projects individual researchers can tackle. The quality of the automatically generated, verbatim transcripts is highly impressive and ready to go in a fraction of the time needed to transcribe manually. The machine-learning-based transcription works best for English. Other languages, such as German, are still transcribed with impressive accuracy, but I encounter more omissions and errors. Here, the model still has room for improvement. Furthermore, the online editor transfers a lot of data, severely constraining the ability to work with it remotely – i.e. with a mobile hotspot or generally weaker internet connection.
