"The best backup software I've ever known."

What do you like best?

I like Altaro a lot because it is versatile since it allows me to be able to use several virtual machines on my servers. This is something very important to take into account. I can also say that the software is fast manipulation, if you do not have experience with it, this will not limit you to be able to configure it and use it.

This software also allows you to recover backup copies and boot from it, even when another format is being used. It has a continuous data protection system that allows us to protect and monitor virtual machines every five minutes, thanks to its fast and efficient engine that makes the job much easier.

This system allows to have an optimal storage of all backup copies externally and internally in order to have total control with initialization support, thanks to this type of procedures it is not necessary to load the full backup in an initial way.

Through its system, I can access the web portal of this system and I can see the status of backup copies made in the past, updates to my system and products I have issued reports.

What do you dislike?

At the moment I have no complaints about this system, however, I do not think it's good to depend only on virtual machines when it comes to making the respective backups, I think everything related to databases, web servers, systems for version control, mail servers should already be in the cloud.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

This program is vital to protect all the data that you manage in your company, since it will allow you to manage your backup in your virtual and physical servers without having the need to rent an extra device that makes you spend a lot of money.

I also recommend this system because of the speed and speed that the technical support team of this company has in solving problems. They are truly impressive because they are very professional and know the whole system perfectly. Without a doubt, this will give you great peace of mind.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Altaro VM Backup has been of great benefit since it provides a guarantee to avoid the loss of data and valuable information generating automatic copies, without a doubt this gives us absolute confidence with the software; In case of an incident, we are sure that the data we have will not be lost allowing us to return quickly and without problems.

Knowing that this system has the powerful NAS support to perform backups allows us to start a virtual machine without waiting for a long time. This is undoubtedly very beneficial, since it avoids many problems because seeing that a local device is lost by mistake in your system or being infected generates a headache and with it a disturbing delay.

"Comprehensive, simple and effective backup solution"

What do you like best?

We have been using Altaro VM Backup for a number of years now and have seen the product go from strength to strength. One of the best features is the simple approach that is taken with the software. From installation from first backup takes less than 15 minutes, no fuss, it just does the job and it does it well.

What do you dislike?

There really is nothing that I dislike about the product. I would like to have seen CDP introduced in the Standard version of the product but I understand why that was not the case.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

When looking at Altaro VM Backup I would recommend that other should not look at Unlimited Plus as this gives the best value for money as it include Continuous Data Protection (CDP) and native Azure backup, which provides great value for money offsite storage

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Altaro VM Backup really does tick all of the boxes for us with the introduction of CDP and native backup to Azure blob storage. The product delivers a fantastic set of features at a great price point for our clients.

"Altaro - backup & recovery made easy!"

What do you like best?

The boot from backup restore functionality is invaluable - using this we can bring a failed server back to life within a minute or so, minimising downtime for the customer.

CBT allows us to continuously backup customer data where needed to ensure we meet strict RPO targets.

v8 has introduced boot from offsite backup, so we can now restore our customers services in our datacentre if they have disaster.

Backups are completed quickly, and the data is compressed considerably as to reduce network traffic (ideal for the offsite backups!).

What do you dislike?

I wish Altaro would include support backup physical servers, direct restoration of SQL databases and SharePoint farms. We currently have to use a competitors product for those areas.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Altaro offers a great feature set, and keeps going from strength to strength.

With Altaro, we're able to monitor multiple installations easily. Saving time and money for both us and our clients.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Using Altaro VM to backup multiple customers Hyper-V and VMWare virtual machines; love the central management console which lets me see the state of backups across all of our customers in one go.

"Great Product, Pricing, Support and Development Cycle."

What do you like best?

- Per Host licensing (Altaro does not mind how many CPU's you have in your server!)

- Very easy to use interface, fast installation and quick product setup.

- Altaro keep things simple for users and deals with complexity behind the interface for you (eg, no setup required for clusters, all automatically dealt with for you)

- Boot from backup gets you up and running in seconds!

- CDP (Continuous Data Protection) allows us to protect VM's as often as every 5min.

- VM Image backup but with granular file level/Exhcnage message level recovery

- Very lightweight Deduplication engine that is fast and efficient.

- Offsite backup destination support with WAN optimisation, compression and deduplication.

- Backup to Azure blob storage (although ended up using Altaros offsite backup server ourself for full control over our backups with seeding support, no need to upload the initial full backup)

- Website access to backup status, push products updates, reports..etc (CMC - Cloud Management Console).

- Very easy to use USB multi-disk offsite backup drive rotations

What do you dislike?

- Large offsite backups to USB drives can take some time to update, however, it was not an issue as it runs after the primary backup location completes by default and believe the added time is mainly due to a 'check/scan process'.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Give it a try, they have a 30 day trial version which is fully unlocked...

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

- Protect our production VM's

- Offsite copies of all backups to help protect from theft, fire, flood..etc..

- Offline copies of backups to protect from Ransomware and Cryptoware.

"Works Great & Excellent Support Staff"

What do you like best?

Altaro is very easy to set up and configure as it walks you step-by-step through the process of backing up your virtual servers.

What do you dislike?

The off-site backup options could be improved both in terms of available storage locations (AWS, etc) and ease of setup. It took us a while to figure it out and we had to use Altaro support to help along the way. However, once we got it set up and working it's been rock solid.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Altaro is a great tool for backing up Hyper-V environments. Easy setup and a very affordable price point make it an attractive option for anyone running a virtual server environment.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

The ability to recover either the entire server via snapshot or individual files is a lifesaver. The time to recovery is very quick when using on-site/local backups.

"Great and effective backup system"

What do you like best?

Altaro VM Backup is easy to setup and use without having to spend a fortune. It is the ideal VM backup and replication solution.

Booting from backup is a great option and the sandbox allows to do restore drills which is essential in checking your backups.

The reporting is good and gives you the required information at a glance.

What do you dislike?

There is nothing I would say that I dislike about the system so far. Backup is working fine and restoration is quick and easy.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Go for it. It is totally worthwhile budget wise

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

With Altaro VM Backup, we have been able to set a proper backup plan and this will help us to test / drill our disaster recovery policy effectively.

"Affordable and meet basic needs"

What do you like best?

Altaro is the cheapest backup solution available in the market as per my knowledge. Installation is super easy and self explanatory. Connecting to the Data centers is very easy and the whole process is pretty seamless. Maintenance costs are minimal and the support is good.

What do you dislike?

I personally dislike the limitations on its usage. I do not know if the company is fully evolved but they really need to work on all the available backup options which are already being provided by the existing Backup companies like Veeam and Veritas (Of course , they are much expensive than Altaro but has the capability of almost doing anything).

Main issues with using Altaro is, you cannot backup a physical machine and the company says that they are designed for backing up virtual machines only, but they should keep in mind that physical machines are as important as virtual machines. Now a days almost all the companies got their machines 80 to 90% virtual but not 100%.

Another issue is you cannot backup any of your virtual Machines to Network attached Storage or the Tape Library. This is a major down fall.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

If you like something affordable to backup your virtual Data Center, this is the right product. Remember they can't backup to NAS or Tape Libraries at this point.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Easy to use interface. Seamless installation and connecting data Centers hosts and storage's. Restoring from the backups are very simple and we are able to go as granular as needed and this helps us to pull a particular file which has been deleted or modified unintentionally.

"Truly hassle-free"

What do you like best?

Up and running in 5-10 minutes. No need to chase prerequisites, setup databases or anything: we just ran setup and in 5 minutes we got list of our VMware and Hyper-V virtual machines ready to be added to backup plan.

Product complies with land&expand approach flawlessly, saving you more space the more machines you back up :)

We have two offices in two cities, and now we can see what is happening with backups in both locations from one console, keeping track on every virtual machine and both internal and external backup storages we use.

That's a true value in a few clicks from where you are right now!

What do you dislike?

Only virtual machines are supported for backup - the world is still moving to a virtual/cloud and there will be years until it will be enough to backup only virtual machines.

It is not critical dislike though, because critical part of infrastructure (databases, web-servers, version control systems, mailservers, etc.) are already virtualized.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Try it yourself - will not take much time, most likely you will love product from first clicks.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

The main problem - is a risk of data loss. Altaro VM Backup closes that gap for us with guarantee in form of automatic copies verification/checking - it creates a straightforward trust in our relationship with software, we know for sure that in case of emergency, our virtual machines will return to service in no time.

"Continous Data protection for Virtual machines."

What do you like best?

In addition to the simplicity of the product, I liked many more features in Altaro; such as, CDP ( Continuous Data Protection) in this feature there is no way to lose you data because your machines will be backed up every 5 minutes !

* Simple installation required, no complexity in any step. Even inside the management console, you can protect your machines by only dragging them to the desired backup schedule.

* I like the detailed dashboarding, I can know the size of every backed up machine and the time taken to be backed up, in addition to duplication percentage.

* RTO is really small, restoring entire machine can take few minutes !!

* Great support and easy to report any issue.

*Off site backup is perfect for disaster recovery.

What do you dislike?

Well, there are many missing points which I wish if they could add them on the road map:

* No physical machines backup ! only virtual.

* Reports can't be downloaded as PDF.

* Not File-level backup, I need to backup the whole machine.

* The destination always be on the host, I wish sometimes to backup one VM to another inside the host.

*Not supported some applications, only SQL and exchange

Recommendations to others considering the product:

I recommend it to users who have virtual environment

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Backup and disaster recovery. Altaro helps the company to protect their data and reduce the RTO .

"Great backup software for Virtual Machines."

What do you like best?

Automated testing, Azure integration for offsite backups and ability to restore from a backup in 10 minutes or less. The Cloud Management Console allows for management of many host servers (Both Hyper-V and VM Ware) from one pane of glass.

What do you dislike?

Over complicated and limited functionality in the retention policies.

The email summaries that notify you of backup failures across hosts need to be simplified. They are pretty hard to read. A simple list of problems would be excellent.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

This will allow you to manage your own backup solution for virtual servers without having to lease any device from one of the big names in this space.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We use Altaro to backup our clients' virtual machines locally and offsite. Using a powerful NAS device for local backups allows us to boot a virtual machine directly from the NAS for very quick restores. This has been helpful when an infected user device has destroyed data on a server. The offsite storage feature allows us to utilize our own data center or Azure to hold data outside the building to protect against fire or other disaster.

"Amazingly simple, incredibly effective."

What do you like best?

Many vendors of all types tout 'intuitive interface' but Altaro has it cold. The product was installed, connected and ready to make our first backup (during eval) in less than 20 minutes, with just a quick read of their 'get started' doc.Implementing more sophisticated features such as off site replication were similarly easy. The licensing options are simple for us and for our clients, and the difference between versions is also simple to comprehend and to explain to our clients.

What do you dislike?

We would like to see a workstation backup product available.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Try this first - for VM or HyperV backup, nothing is a seasy to set up and run, in our experience. I wish PC backup was this easy as well!

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We find that backups are very fast after the initial full backup; we are able to quickly test the 'run-ability' of the backup for disaster recovery, individual file restores are easy and quick. This allows us to show the value and operation of our d/r plans for our customers. Also, the remote replication is a great feature and allows us to serve as backup for our client for true d/r implementation. So it is a revenue generator as well.

"The efficiency of Altaro Backup"

What do you like best?

I have been using this product for more than three years and from the first moment I realized that it was a valid help in the work of the system administrator. IT Work like a Charm. Fast configuration and central management with is dashboard. This Dashboard let manage all our customers, get up to date the product, create configurations to deploy to the installation. technical support is offered with the utmost professionalism and speed. On those occasions when I needed to address them, the problems have always been solved. Using the wan offsite backup, you can back up multiple customers on the same server and manage everything from a single console. in the last version the continuous data protection has been added which allows to make very frequent backups.

What do you dislike?

This product can't backup a physical server but maybe in future it will be possible and in some situations is not needed. Nothing else to report.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Try it and you will not change

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I solved problem of backup on hypervisor with VMware and Hyper-V. with a cloud server, you can enable the backup wan so that you also have an encrypted offsite backup. The utility is made available by Altaro at no cost and is equipped with an excellent compression protocol. Which allowed me to make cloud backups also of customers with not very high-performance internet lines.

"Flexible Backup solution for VMs"

What do you like best?

I really appreciate the ease of use of the solution provided by Altaro. It is very easy to just install the software, or update it and then just set it up under 10 minutes to get your backups rolling. When you first start the sofware it even guides you in the first few crucial steps. The software will ask you to add a licence and then set a backup location and a schedule for all your virtual machines. Once it is done you just need to press "take backup" and wait for the magic to do it's trick.

You also have a lot of choice when it comes to where you want to backup your files. It can be on a local drive, usb drive, network drive. You can set an external backup that could be a drive rotation or even set yourself an offsite server to receive the backups at an other location very easily.

What do you dislike?

There is nothing that comes to mind as a deal breaker.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

I recommend testing it out with a service provider that can get your a monthly license if you aren't sure and want to give it a solid try. You can always have a few trial as well or even be full free if your needs are small because Altaro does provide a solution for free licensing for 2 VMs.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

It saves many of my client from accidental deletes or ransomwares.

"Altaro VM Backup is simple and powerful"

What do you like best?

Altaro VM Backup is simple to use. It upgrades without and problems and has never failed me in actual and test Disaster Recoveries. It doesn't require much background services like SQL which many competitor backup software does. And the price is very affordable for my small business clients.

What do you dislike?

Nothing not to like. Altaro VM Backup is simple to use. So simple that the first time that I used it several years ago, I thought that it couldn't possibly be as effective as it proved. The trial had me sold. At least 5 years on and a few upgrades later, my opinion hasn't changed.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Definitely great for small businesses. I have not used it in an Enterprise class scenario so cannot say. Works wonders in a situation with 4 to 5 Windows Hosts (2012 R2 and 2016) with around 6 VMs each. The tech support is very impressive the few times I have had to call on them. Very knowledgable. Testing VM recovery is a breeze. Great for peace of mind. Never failed me yet.

What do you like best?

It is easy to use and set up, has lots of options for restoring and redundancy, with boot from backup option. Updates are easy, customer service is great. Its affordable and effective.

What do you dislike?

Takes a long time to restore can result in over an hour of down time, but for small business it is great. Boot from backup option can get you up and running while machine is restored

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Is very cost effective method of managing your Virtual server backups in a small/medium sized business.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Adds redundancy easy live backups while machine are still running. Can automate or manually take backups. Sand box restore and backup health check allow me to monitor and test the stability and reliability of my backups. Error reporting is available with access to live chat to help resolve issues.

"One of the must haves on a VM system"

What do you like best?

I love the fact that it's saved my a**e several times since 2015 when I started using it! Previously my SMB customers would run with the built in MS backup solution that left me as IT Admin feeling a little vulnerable, but now I sleep better! The main features I love are the compression and duplication which means I can get more backup history on my existing storage. I also love the Offsite Server and we use this at multi-site customers over normal FTTC lines very well. This saves having to have an unreliable staff member swap over USB drives (which doesn't happen more often than not) and take offsite, and with the encryption we know it's safe. Lastly on the unlimited edition the brick level Exchange restore has also proved useful.

Oh, when I have used support they have been fairly well clued up on the product and have given great help! I have to note that they also have some very good (and updated) articles on HyperV usage etc online and often when just Googling a HyperV problem it will come up with the solution within an Altaro web article.

What do you dislike?

The fairly large prices increases since 2015, which I hope don't continue (inflation OK but the RRP of the Standard product went up 35%). The yearly maint. costs are good though, just that initial purchase can (nearly) be a deal breaker for the SMBs I deal with, on top of a new system.

One gripe I had was I needed to do a mailbox restore in v7 which wouldn't work and Altaro said it would only be fixed in v8 (which at the time was weeks away), which didn't help me there and then and I had to do it the long way via Exchange Recovery, which as we had paid for Unlimited for this very reason, was a little annoying.

Being a bit OCD I like to check my Encryption key but once set you cannot view again, and then at the back of my mind I keep thinking, did I set it right!

Don't get me wrong though, even with these little "dislikes" I really love this software, I definitely sleep better, as I said above.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Saving on version history storage with great compression and also doing offsite copies (private cloud) to take out the human factor. Being able to sandbox restore VMs for testing and update trials. Quickly recover brick level Exchange email.

"Extremely useful and reliable backup tool. Simple to use and great support team!"

What do you like best?

Altaro is a very simple yet powerful tool with great flexibility to match most small to mid-sized virtual environment needs.

The features we value the most are the continuous data protection, in-line deduplication, and boot from backup. Also, the backup health monitor ensures that no corrupted blocks are kept by flagging them to "self-heal" during the next backup job.

Plenty of retention policy options as well, and a very visual and easy to use dashborad round up a great and mature software you can rely your data on. Moreover, we always get super fast and very professional help from the support team.

What do you dislike?

We don't have a very complex infrastructure and Altaro meets all our needs. It works great for backing up or VMs but I would really love to be able to back up the host without any extra tools.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

We are really satisfied with this product. We use it in a Hyper-V environment and I highly recommend it.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Hassle-free, bulletproof backups with minimal administration. Fast recovery options dramatically reduce downtime. Most common case scenario is the recovery of individual user files or folders which can be easily done. We alse needed to do a full recover of some virtual machines and the result was perfect, with no setbacks. The first time we had to do a full restore we contacted support to get help if necessary and they were of great help, guiding us during our first full recovery. A+ for the support team!

"Very Good Experience from Altaro Hyper-V backup"

What do you like best?

I prefer Altaro than Veeam, easier to use and manage. More intuitive, Fast. Support by mail very very very good, answer under 12 hours! While Veeam Backup (the other solution I used) is more tedious. And I never managed to make a backup on external hard drive, I contacted the support (response after 5 days), answer: "impossible in this version" (which is already quite expensive), backup only locally, useless if the server crash. So I looked for another solution, I found Altaro and since then I only install it at my clients'. J'adore ce

What do you dislike?

I would like an interface in French even if the intreface in English is easy to use

Recommendations to others considering the product:

For price and use, Altaro is better than Veeam. I tested both products and my choice quickly decided. Veeam is better. Support at Veeam is very difficult whereas with Altaro you have a response very quickly. And the use is more intuitive, Veeam is really complicated and the standard version only allows backup locally, useless if the server crash.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Backup on external hard drive or nas, fast and efficient (not included in the stranger version of veam). A bit difficult to use at the beginning (as all software for the first time) but the support is there and responds quickly to guide us. As for the restoration, it's very easy compared to Veeam, which is a gas plant and very difficult to understand. With Altaro you select the date whose seniority is important (I was able to go back to 6 months of backup on a hard disk of 2TB USB) and the restoration is done quickly and integrates directly into the Hyper-V taking soint of disable the network card to avoid IP confilts.

"We're using Altaro VM Backup for our Hyper-V cluster since 2015 and are quite happy with it."

What do you like best?

The product is really ease to use and the user interface shows all of the features in a

very useful way. Over the time Altaro has added many new features but the overall look

and feel keeps the same. So even with a major upgrade you're still familiar with the

features and usage.

What do you dislike?

We hope that we get a germany Version also backup from physical machines would be good if it would be implemented

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

With 4 Hyper-V hosts in our cluster Altaro also requires 4 licenses as it is licensed per

host. Using the largest edition "Unlimited Plus" we have a total SRP of 2900,00 EUR

for our cluster which is a very good pricing compared to some other vendors.

"A great, easy tool use that I couldn't live without"

What do you like best?

The UI is very easy to navigate around, even without being an IT professional

Restore VMs quickly but also an option to just restore certain files, folders or an exchange mailbox

Good compression which allows us to have a longer retention policy

What do you dislike?

It would be nice if Altaro would backup the host as well so another backup solution isn't needed for this.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

The unlimited/unlimited plus is worth the upgrade if you have Exchange or would like very frequent backups such as backup hourly

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

With our old backup solution we use to have to keep monitoring the backups as they would often fail, requiring us to spend time fixing it for it to only fail the next day. We have had Altaro for just under a year and have felt it to be much more reliable than the other solutions we have tried. We had an issue once however their support helped us on the spot though their live chat feature in the Altaro console.

"An effective backup and recovery software"

What do you like best?

The backup is intuitive and the necessary functions are present (VM backup, off-site backup on RDX cassette, consistency check). It is possible to combine on-site backup and off-site backup.

The restoration is fast with date search and granular restoration.

What do you dislike?

The user interface is not easy to handle in the beginning even if you finally get used quickly. The selection of the VMs to be backed up is not intuitive and the installation of an off-site backup on RDX cassette was not easy (need to create a sharing between several servers in the case of a converged architecture)

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We had no block backup, our old backup was a file-level backup. Moving to a virtualized infrastructure required a VM-based backup solution, and Altaro made a difference in the cost of licensing.

"A must for HyperV backups!"

What do you like best?

The multiple backups options available. To be able to backup to remote out of office locations and local NAS is a must. Ability to restore very easily a whole system or just a few files.

What do you dislike?

I can't think of anything. Possibly if there were a third backup location option. I always like to have more than one backup type running just in case one fails, you have an alternate going.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

If you are using anything else, give Altaro a fair test. It is well worth the money and the only product I will use. There are too many great options available. Just plain works great.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I am able to backup to multiple locations, even offsite locations out of office. Email notifications. Now Replication options. Very stable.

"Fast and effective Hyper-V backup"

What do you like best?

Altaro is extremely flexible, with the ability to setup multiple schedules and multiple backup locations. Backups are impressively quick (backing up a 1TB hyper-v VM takes less than 2 hours), and restores are equally as quick. In addition, it does an excellent job at incremental backups, so that you can keep a history of your VM's instead of just having a current snapshot. And, perhaps most impressively, if you're only backing up 1 or 2 VMs, Altaro is absolutely free.

What do you dislike?

The initial setup is a bit complicated, and the number of options available can be overwhelming.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Evaluating is free, and backing up 2 or less VMs is free. There is very little reason not to check it out.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Altaro allows me to effectively backup Hyper-V virtual machines quickly and efficiently. Unlike Windows built-in Windows Server Backup, Altaro allows me to set multiple schedules of when and where I would like the various VM's to be backed up. In addition, it is significantly faster than Windows Server Backup, and significantly easier to restore from.

"Great product, could use physical server backup"

What do you like best?

The cloud console and ability to monitor all of our backup instances is great. Replication to an off-site location as well as locally is a key feature we are utilizing. The ability to boot a VM from a backup is also a nice feature.

What do you dislike?

Being able to use a few different online storage options, such as Amazon, Wasabi etc.. would be nice. Azure is working great though. The ability to backup physical servers and the VM Host itself would be a great feature for disaster recovery. To be able to backup the entire environment this way would be the last feature needed to supplant our other existing backup solutions.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Full restores of VMs have saved us on multiple occasions. Also the dashboard makes monitoring the backups much easier.

"Great product for VM backup! "

What do you like best?

Simple setup, very easy to use. Backup times are short, and the file level restore is a great tool. Altaro support is also quick and reliable. I have been using this product for years....you get a lot for a minimal cost.

What do you dislike?

Not much negative at all.....if there is a backup error, sometimes the description and error codes are not easy to understand, but support can clarify.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Purchase it and try it out...you will love it.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Having the piece of mind that our entire VM environment is being backed up locally and offsite is priceless. The file level restore has come in handy a number of times as well, and is a quick and easy process.

"Awesome backup software and easy to use"

What do you like best?

No hefty requirements to run the software.

The deduplication especially on the off site server is downright amazing. I have seen over 90% reductions for some vm's

Customer service and support is second to none and extremely responsive.

Keep up the good work Alfaro

What do you dislike?

I really can't think of anything at the moment. I don't really have any complaints. It just works

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Recovery times are way down. Especially with off site server boot from backup. Even in the worst case scenario, I can have the customers servers up and running remotely in 5 minutes.

"Altaro VM Backup v8 Review"

What do you like best?

The Altaro user interface is terrific, clean, uncluttered and everything is organized in a logic manner in which you would expect.

What do you dislike?

Not much to dislike, managing multiple Altaro instances on multiple servers requires a separate instance to be created in the dashboard, but that is minor

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We are able to replicate near real time our production web / sql server vms across the country to our Altaro servers running at our disaster recovery sites. It works great and provides us peace of mind in our investment.

The only business problem we had to overcome was the commercial cost for the alternatives out there in the marketplace. Compared to the competition, the decision was really easy to make.

"Nice and Easy - The way it should be"

What do you like best?

The product was easy to install, configure and get my first backup under my belt. I get a notification email everyday that my backsups are done.I suggested this product to a friend who manages a number of small companies IT needs and he thanked me for turning him on to Altaro.

What do you dislike?

As of now, I have not found anything that I dislike about the program. It has been a mostly set it an forget it experience. There has been one warning that I can't seem to get cleared out.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Altaro is an important part of our Business Continuity plan. We depend on Alrato to easily backup and restore our VMs.

What do you like best?

Clean UI interface design, it's non cluttered and is better that a web page based interface (way better)

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Ease of use and training others to monitor or create VM backup jobs, easy scheduler to see at glance what and when jobs are scheduled, (very important to me as other jobs don't step on the backups)

"Seemless"

The product is very simple to use. We are able to manage everything from one pain of glass.

What do you dislike?

It only works for Virtual Servers. It would be nice if they came out with a product for Physical Servers as well.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Buy it. Very easy to scale up and down.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I have gotten rid of all other backup products. With the reporting and offsite backups I am able to give my customers a one stop solution. And the alerts help us stay on top of any issues that arise.

"Altaro Product Review"

What do you like best?

The simplicity of setting up the software and backups, The seeding process is somewhat quick. Upgrades are straight forward and quick. Restoring is easy. but will take some time depending on the size of the Virtual Machines. The cost of the system is comparable to most others out there. maybe a little less then the competitors.

What do you dislike?

Not able to backup straight to Blob storage in Azure. Have to run an extra Virtual Machines in Azure to get offsite backups for the system. but other then that its a great software. The amount of time it takes to offload the data to the offsite location. But seeding this data would speed things up.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Try it out and you won't regret it. If you can seed your offsite with the data first. It will be quicker. Its great for a small Virtual Machine base. But it will work with large Virtual machine systems and hosts. Just be more to manage and backups will take longer to complete. But other then that this software works great.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Offsite Backups and Disaster Recovery. Backups are backed up offsite for easy access. Redundant data for backups and recovery.

"nice and impressive backup software"

What do you like best?

Altaro backup software has a high compressibility, additionally it is able to backup multiple clients at a time, and won't get your backup lost while the host is down.

What do you dislike?

1. the error or warning descriptions are not so clear that could be diagnose by administrator

2. new version upgrade can not be pushed and installed on line, download and manual installation

3. dash board can not be customized

Recommendations to others considering the product:

high compressibility and high backup performance, easy to manage and check

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

it helps backup all virtual servers with one software and could recover the server by file level and package level, to reduce RTO.

"Mi experiencia con ransomware y Altaro"

What do you like best?

In my clients I implement backups on NAS servers.

Some of them have suffered Ransomware entry and unfortunately have destroyed the virtual machines.

But thanks to disk backup, the restoration time is very short compared to LTO3 tape drives that my clients have.

What do you dislike?

Apart from the off-line backup and the cloud option, support for tape devices would also be interesting, as has other SW developers (VEEAM).

It would also be interesting to add the disaster recovery option of the physical machine. At least I have not found how to do it with Altaro, something that already existed with CA-Arcserver + DR.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Backup SW for business environments with attractive prices and easy management and installation.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We have solved in several clients with Altaro Backups versions 6.x and 7.x, problems of loss of data due to the encryption of the VMs.

"Easy to set up but expensive"

What do you like best?

It's very reliable and dependable. It never crashed on me and never lost a backup. Altaro is indeed specialized in backing up virtual machines. Since Altaro has begun backing up, I never seen a failed backup again.

What do you dislike?

It's expensive and does not work with Virtualbox

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Altaro VM offers very dependable and secure backups with excellent support. However, the price for this service is high. I recommend using the trial in a mock setup and see how it works out for you.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

It solves our backup needs.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

It easy to setup and use

"Best Backup System Ever"

What do you like best?

Very easy backup, easy monitoring, simple license management.

Deduplication and compression is one of the outstanding features - it saves up to 50% of disk space.

What do you dislike?

For updates it is sometimes necessary to uninstall previous version. That's a little bit annoying.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Altaro is a very reliable backup system. I had to restore several servers not a single one failed to do so!

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Hassle free and reliable backup

"Quite effective, for the price."

What do you like best?

It's relatively cheap and easy to use. For a simple once a day backup of a virtual server it's pretty effective. Backups can target removable disks, local NAS or a remote server pretty easily with built in encryption if you need it.

What do you dislike?

Running more than one backup per day isn't that great, it's possible but the load the backup process seems to place on the server it really is best left as an out of hours process.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

If you are restrained by cost and are happy with a single backup per day then it will do, If you can afford it then look at Veeam, it's far superior. If any of your VMs have pass-through disks, these cannot be backed up using this product. The tech support is reasonably good, which is fortunate as it seems quite frequently needed.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Cheap daily backups of VMs. Its simple to install and manage and simple to monitor.

"Altaro VM Backup is Fantastic!"

What do you like best?

In the 17 years my wife has had her business, I've been searching for backup software that is reliable, efficient easy to use, and requires no maintenance. Altaro VM Backup is the first product I've found that meets all of these criteria. The deduplication, offsite backup server with WAN acceleration, and testing capabilities are some of my favorite features. Also, the one time I had to use support (for a how-to question), they were extremely helpful and responsive. If you want a product that "just works", look no further!

What do you dislike?

I wish it supported taking a bare-metal image backup of the host O/S. Then, it would be a complete backup solution if I lost the entire server.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

It's reliable, efficient, intuitive and easy to use. I highly recommend it!

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

It allows me to easily backup/restore my critical data and automatically save a copy offsite.

"Best virtualization backup software we have found."

What do you like best?

It's going to be a toss up between the simple administration of the software or the price. These two things combined make the best backup software we have tried.

What do you dislike?

Very, very seldom, the program will let shadow copies run rampant causing free space issues.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Give it shot. It's simple to use and easy to learn.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Altaro backup enable us to create fast and effective backups of our Hyper-V environments. The largest benefit is a cost effective, simple backup solution for Hyper-V that is simple enough to not spend multiple hours training techs how to use.
