Teams have moved to Adaptive from Workday from spreadsheet-based processes such as Excel, as well as from legacy planning and finance platforms including Oracle, Anaplan, Planful, Vena, and other FP&A tools. The reasons center on replacing fragmented or difficult-to-maintain planning, reducing version confusion, and gaining a shared model for collaboration and scenario planning. Compared with spreadsheets, users describe better coordination and a more consistent source of information; the transition can still involve a learning curve.

These connections help bring financial, workforce, and operational information into planning, reduce manual data handling, and let teams work with plans and reports in familiar tools.

What features or capabilities could make Adaptive from Workday even more useful?

Adaptive from Workday could be more useful with smoother ways to build and maintain models, more flexible reporting, and better performance with complex workloads. The recurring improvement opportunities are:
  • Simpler modeling and administration: Make formulas, model changes, and troubleshooting easier to understand, especially for new users.
  • More flexible reporting and dashboards: Expand customization and make it easier to create and adjust reports and visualizations.
  • Faster performance: Improve load and refresh times for large models, complex calculations, and reports.

  • Assistance and recommendations: Drafting or troubleshooting formulas, summarizing information, and suggesting model refinements.
Users value these functions as a starting point that can save time, but they still check the output against business context rather than relying on it as the final answer.

"Transforms Financial Planning with Seamless Integration"
5/5
What do you like best about Adaptive from Workday?

I really like the elastic hypercube technology and the in-memory engine that allows for rapid, complex data modeling and real-time calculations. The ability to run unlimited "what-if" scenarios instantly to evaluate market shifts or financial changes is fantastic. I also appreciate how Adaptive from Workday connects easily with external ERP, CRM, and HCM systems, which does not require heavy IT support. The self-service ownership is a big plus, allowing financial and business teams to manage, build models, and edit rules themselves. Using the adaptive OfficeConnect integration with Microsoft Excel lets me build and format reports inside familiar tools like Excel and PowerPoint while securely pulling data from the real-time cloud base. "Powerful, Intuitive Financial Modeling with Strong Integrations and Clear ROI"
5/5
What do you like best about Adaptive from Workday?

Workday Adaptive Planning shines brightest where its powerful performance meets an intuitive UI/UX, making complex financial modeling feel surprisingly accessible. The platform seamlessly bridges data silos through robust integrations, driving an undeniable ROI that justifies the investment far beyond traditional budgeting tools. Backed by solid onboarding support and increasingly smart AI capabilities, it transforms what used to be a tedious forecasting grind into an efficient, collaborative, and forward-looking experience. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Adaptive from Workday?

While Workday Adaptive Planning is powerful, users often find its steep pricing and complex onboarding support difficult to justify for smaller teams. Performance can occasionally lag during heavy calculations, and setting up advanced integrations often requires significant technical effort. Additionally, its AI and predictive intelligence features still feel somewhat basic compared to newer, more agile competitors on the market. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Streamlines Budgeting and Forecasting with Real-Time Collaboration"
4/5
What do you like best about Adaptive from Workday?

What I like most about Workday Adaptive Planning is how it makes budgeting and forecasting much easier without relying on endless spreadsheets. The interface is clean and user-friendly, so it's easy for both finance and business teams to build plans, create reports, and collaborate. I also like how well it integrates with ERP, HR, and other business systems, giving everyone access to accurate, real-time data in one place. The platform performs well even with large datasets, which helps speed up planning cycles and improves forecasting accuracy. While it's a significant investment, the time savings, automation, and better decision-making provide a strong return over time. Workday also offers helpful onboarding resources and responsive support, making implementation and ongoing use much smoother. The AI-powered forecasting and planning features are another big advantage, as they help identify trends and generate more reliable forecasts. Overall, Workday Adaptive Planning is a powerful solution that helps organizations plan more efficiently, collaborate better, and adapt quickly as business needs change. What do you dislike about Adaptive from Workday?

While Workday Adaptive Planning offers many benefits, it also has some drawbacks. The platform can be expensive, especially for smaller organizations, and implementation often requires significant time, planning, and training. New users may face a learning curve due to the platform's advanced features and customization options. In some cases, creating complex reports or models can require specialized knowledge, and organizations that only have simple budgeting needs may find the system more powerful than necessary. Additionally, the quality of forecasts and reports depends heavily on the accuracy of the data being entered and maintained. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Flexible and Intuitive Budgeting Tool for Mid to Large Organizations"
4/5
What do you like best about Adaptive from Workday?

I like Workday Adaptive Planning's flexibility and ease of use, which allows me to build detailed planning models while still being intuitive enough for business users. The ability to automate reporting, perform scenario analysis quickly, and collaborate across teams in a centralized platform saves time and improves decision making. The flexibility helps me quickly adapt planning models as business needs change. Automation improves data accuracy and eliminates repetitive tasks. Overall, it provides better visibility into business performance and supports more informed decision making. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Adaptive from Workday?

Building complex models and troubleshooting are areas that could be improved. Better customization options for reports would be helpful. The dashboard needs better intuitive customization, and guidance for new users could be improved. Advanced visualization options and faster performance when working with large models would also be beneficial. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Workday Adaptive Planning: A Game-Changer for Unified Finance and HR Project Planning"
5/5
What do you like best about Adaptive from Workday?

We use Workday Adaptive planning for budget resource management and talent placement planning for the S4HANA project- it has been a game changer. It combines finance data with HR data all in one place without either finance or HR having to get data from offline. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Adaptive from Workday?

Maybe the one thing I’d call out is the limited opportunities in terms of reporting on dates. As we’re working on a project, reporting and data availability is the key. However, we had to make some sacrifices in terms on what we can report on and how we use dashboards. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Flexible Reporting and Strong Controls, with a Learning Curve"
4.5/5
What do you like best about Adaptive from Workday?

I like Adaptive from Workday’s intuitive interface and flexible reporting and dashboard features, which make it easy to pull insights quickly. I also appreciate the robust user permission controls because they make it easy to give different teams access only to what they need. It helps me with headcount tracking and alignment. I switched to it for its cloud flexibility, real-time collaboration, and robust modeling capabilities. Setup was very easy, with no delays. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Adaptive from Workday?

I find the initial learning curve a bit steep for new users, and some advanced reporting features take time to master. Getting familiar with the formula syntax and data mapping required a lot of trial and error. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Seamless Workday Integration and Flexible Position-Based Salary Budgeting"
5/5
What do you like best about Adaptive from Workday?

I love how it integrates with our actuals in Workday, and I also appreciate being able to budget salaries by position. It’s also great that multiple users on my finance team can work in the system simultaneously. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Adaptive from Workday?

I always seem to need to save, and it doesn’t flow as smoothly as Workday. The formulas can get complex, and it’s easy to make mistakes. I also run into missing links between sheets fairly often, which can be frustrating. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Reliable FP&A Modeling with Real-Time What-Ifs and Easy OfficeConnect Refreshes"
5/5
What do you like best about Adaptive from Workday?

The cube-sheet modeling and version control are what make this tool reliable for our FP&A cycles. I can run what-if scenarios across different revenue drivers or headcount assumptions in real time without it crashing, which was always a nightmare in Excel. The OfficeConnect add-in is a big plus—once our board decks and monthly reporting packs are linked in PowerPoint and Excel, refreshing actuals vs. budget figures takes just a couple of clicks instead of hours of manual copy-pasting. It also handles multidimensional rollups across multiple business units in a clean, straightforward way. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Adaptive from Workday?

The learning curve for custom formulas and more advanced model administration can be steep. When you’re working in complex sheets, troubleshooting broken formulas isn’t always intuitive, especially compared with standard spreadsheet-style debugging. Also, if your data integration (ELT/ETL) pipelines from the ERP aren’t configured correctly, loading large, transaction-level datasets can feel sluggish, particularly during peak month-end close. Customer support can also take some time to resolve more specialized modeling tickets. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Adaptive from Workday?

While Workday Adaptive Planning is powerful, the learning curve can be steep for new users who are not accustomed to complex modeling logic. Additionally, performance can occasionally slow down when handling extremely large data sets or running complex multi-dimensional calculations. Updating permissions and administrative configurations can also feel slightly rigid or cumbersome at times. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
