## Moodle Reviews
 ### 1. So much better than expected. Update after a year.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ryan S. | Training Manager, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 02, 2025

**What do you like best about Moodle?**

Having the ability to use off the shelf standard trainings and create our own has been a perfect blend to meet our employee needs. We can roll our a basic fire safety training and then supplement with customized and targeted trainings to different departments and locations. Their helpdesk has been super quick to answer all of my questions.

**What do you dislike about Moodle?**

They have amazing options for creating content using H5P. There are two content types - branching scenario and interactive video have had some glitches.

**What problems is Moodle solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The problem of visibility has been completely changed. We did not have an LMS prior and Moodle is able to take our multi-page training checklist and mimic it then add features and so notes are available and digital signatures all while being visible from any shift to the department manager and safety and HR. There are general training topics that we are able to use profession SCORM packages and they work very well. We are also able to create and implement our own internal trainings and the variety of content delivery through Moodle means our employees don't simply get PowerPoints and PDF's, they get interactive e-learning and the possibility of multiple ways to check for understanding.

**Official Response from Made Kanthicha:**

> Hi Ryan,

Thank you so much for your thoughtful review!

We're delighted to hear that Moodle's flexibility, ease of use, and mobile accessibility are having such a positive impact on your organisation. It's especially rewarding to know that our implementation support helped ease the transition and that you're seeing meaningful benefits like improved training visibility, streamlined digital tracking, and more engaging content delivery.

It’s great to see Moodle supporting your shift from paper-based checklists to a more transparent and interactive learning environment. Thank you again for sharing your experience – we're proud to be part of your learning journey!

 ### 2. Moodle: Mature, flexible, and Open Source LMS with a huge community and ecosystem of plugins

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Alfredo G. | Moodle Expert, creador de contenidos e instructor, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 06, 2026

**What do you like best about Moodle?**

Moodle has many advantages: it is a mature LMS, with many years of development, and it is also the most used LMS in the world. This means there is a large community of support and development around it. You will almost always find someone to help you, some reference video, and very well-developed and consolidated documentation over the years.

This maturity also means that practically everything is covered, and that the platform is flexible and adaptable to different scenarios. Being Open Source, it has no licensing cost. It has more than 2300 plugins developed by the community, which allows for additional integrations and functionalities to be added to the core.

Starting from version 4.3, integration with different AI providers is already included, and more and more plugins are appearing to meet different requirements with the help of AI. Finally, being Open Source, it offers great possibilities to customize the interface design and adapt it to the needs of the institution.

**What do you dislike about Moodle?**

Being such a complete and flexible LMS, there is a learning curve that is not exponential, but it is long if one wants to master the tool thoroughly. On the other hand, being Open Source, its installation is not difficult; however, it is not easy to implement the correct infrastructure, especially on large platforms, for example with more than 5,000 users. A poor configuration can considerably decrease the platform's performance.

**What problems is Moodle solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Moodle addresses the need to implement platforms for comprehensive learning management, oriented towards the student's experience. Being modular, it adapts to different teaching models and allows you to create spaces just as you imagine them, according to your specific needs.

**Official Response from MoodleHQ Team:**

> Thanks Alfredo, for taking the time to review Moodle. We really appreciate your level of detail.

 ### 3. Powerful, Flexible Open-Source LMS That Adapts to Our Institution

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Frédéric G. | Educational Technology Administrator, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 13, 2026

**What do you like best about Moodle?**

I like that Moodle is a powerful, flexible open‑source LMS that we can really adapt to our institutional needs instead of adapting our practices to the tool.

More specifically, I appreciate that:

The overall architecture is very modular, with plugins for almost everything (question types, activities, reports, integrations), so we can extend it instead of changing platform every few years.

It offers rich pedagogical features out of the box (quizzes, assignments, forums, workshops, rubrics, learning analytics, competencies) that support both traditional and more innovative teaching approaches.

Being open‑source, Moodle gives us control over data, updates and branding, which is important in a public higher‑education context.

The large community (plugins, documentation, forums) makes it easier to find solutions, good practices and examples from other institutions similar to ours.

**What do you dislike about Moodle?**

I dislike that Moodle can feel complex and sometimes inconsistent for end users, especially new teachers who have to navigate many settings and configuration options.

More specifically, I find that:

The overall interface and UX still look a bit dated and cluttered compared to some newer LMSs, which can discourage less tech‑savvy users.

Some configuration pages and advanced settings are scattered and not always intuitive, so admin and support work often involves a lot of “where is that option again?” time.

Because it is so feature‑rich and extensible, it can be hard to maintain a simple, coherent experience when many plugins and customizations are enabled.

Major version upgrades sometimes require careful testing of themes and plugins, which adds overhead for administrators and can delay access to new features.

**What problems is Moodle solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Moodle centralizes our digital teaching and assessment in one place, which solves the problem of scattered tools and inconsistent practices across courses and teachers.

Concretely, it helps us to:

Standardize course delivery and assessment workflows so students always know where to find content, submit work, and see their grades, reducing confusion and support requests.

Support blended and online learning at scale, with quizzes, assignments, forums and SCORM activities that teachers can reuse from semester to semester instead of rebuilding everything.

Provide better tracking and analytics on student progress so teachers and program leaders can identify at‑risk students earlier and intervene in a more targeted way.

Integrate with our existing institutional systems (like Microsoft tools) so authentication, access and course creation are streamlined rather than managed manually.

**Official Response from MoodleHQ Team:**

> Hi Frédéric! Thank you for this incredibly detailed review. Glad you are enjoying using Moodle!

 ### 4. Unmatched Flexibility and Customization with Moodle’s Open-Source LMS

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Marco M. | Senior Project & Program Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 28, 2026

**What do you like best about Moodle?**

As an administrator who has worked with Moodle across multiple client environments, what stands out most to me is its flexibility and open-source nature. No other LMS offers the same level of control over customization—whether it’s branding, plugins, workflows, or integrations—without the constraints that come with licensing.

**What do you dislike about Moodle?**

Administrative complexity is a recurring challenge for me. Moodle is powerful, but that power comes at a cost: the configuration options are extensive and not always logically organized. As a result, it’s easy for less experienced admins to misconfigure something or get lost in deeply nested settings.

**What problems is Moodle solving and how is that benefiting you?**

For clients with limited budgets but complex requirements, Moodle has been especially valuable. It makes it possible to build a fully functional learning ecosystem—covering course management, certifications, blended learning, and SCORM/xAPI content—without recurring licensing costs that would otherwise make the project unsustainable.

**Official Response from MoodleHQ Team:**

> Thanks Marco, for this great review. We appreciate you taking the time!

 ### 5. Moodle's flexibility is the best.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Bernadette A. | Learning and Development Specialist, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 09, 2025

**What do you like best about Moodle?**

Initially, I had some reservations about Moodle since I wasn’t very familiar with it, especially having used other platforms like Docebo. But after three weeks of testing courses and extracting analytics, I can confidently say that it is very user-friendly and efficient. What sets Moodle apart from other platforms is that it has flexibility and customization option s. It allows for more control over the course design, enabling instructors to tweak and adjust content more easily. I'd say Moodle is a very powerful tool, it has so much flexibility.

**What do you dislike about Moodle?**

One thing I dislike is that I'm unable to install additional plug-ins since I have Moodle Cloud. I was hoping to use certain templates that require plug-ins, as they would help make our business' LMS appear more organized and conducive to learning.

**What problems is Moodle solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As our business grows, it’s becoming increasingly challenging to track training for both new hires and senior staff. Our training materials are currently scattered across ShareFolders and various group chats, which makes it difficult for staff to find them easily. A lot of time is spent simply trying to find the right training resources. By implementing Moodle as our official LMS, we can centralize training delivery and track everyone’s progress. It will also provide a single place where staff can easily find materials, whether they need a refresher or want to take a course for their personal and professional growth.

**Official Response from Made Kanthicha:**

> Hi Bernadette,

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience! We’re delighted to hear that Moodle’s flexibility and customisation options have helped you design and manage courses more effectively. It’s great to know that the platform’s ease of use and analytics have supported your training needs and helped centralise your learning resources.

MoodleCloud is designed to be an off-the-shelf solution. If you’re looking for more control and flexibility, we recommend exploring Moodle LMS or Moodle Workplace, both of which allow plugin installations and advanced customisation options.

 ### 6. Swiss army knife of

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** JP d. | Web Developer IT manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 07, 2025

**What do you like best about Moodle?**

Any question I've had, someone has already asked and answered in the forums.

**What do you dislike about Moodle?**

Setting up and hosting it does require some technical know-how (or a good IT person), but the online community is massive and incredibly helpful.

**What problems is Moodle solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We transitioned to Moodle a couple of years ago to deliver our professional training courses, and it has truly transformed our workflow. Being open-source, Moodle allowed us to tailor the platform precisely to our requirements, including incorporating our own logo and branding throughout the site. The range of available plugins is impressive; we easily found solutions for certificates, payment processing, and webinar integration, which made Moodle an ideal choice for us.

While setting up and maintaining Moodle does demand some technical expertise—or at least a reliable IT specialist—the vast online community is a tremendous resource. Whenever I've had a question, I've found that someone else has already encountered the same issue and provided answers in the forums.

For our students, Moodle offers a straightforward, centralized hub for all their learning materials. Although it may not have the sleekness of some corporate systems, it is dependable, secure, and fulfills all our needs without tying us to an expensive subscription. In many ways, it's the Swiss Army knife of learning platforms.

**Official Response from Made Kanthicha:**

> Hi JP,

Thank you for sharing your experience with Moodle! We're delighted to hear how the platform has supported your organisation in delivering professional training and that the ability to tailor it to your branding and workflows has made a real difference.

 ### 7. My Experience Using Moodle in University Teaching - Reliable Platform for Streamlined Teaching

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Dr. Sheerali A. | Learning Delivery Adjunct / Subject Matter Expert, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 17, 2025

**What do you like best about Moodle?**

I like Moodle because it is reliable and easy to use for daily teaching. All course materials, assessments, grades, and announcements are in one place. It helps me stay organised and ensures students can easily access learning resources anytime.

**What do you dislike about Moodle?**

Sometimes Moodle feels slow or cluttered, especially when managing multiple courses. The new interface could be more visually modern and intuitive. Certain features require too many clicks, which can be time-consuming during busy teaching periods.

**What problems is Moodle solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Moodle solves the problem of managing teaching, assessments, and communication in one platform. It benefits me by saving time, improving consistency, tracking student progress, and supporting flexible learning for students both inside and outside the classroom.

**Official Response from MoodleHQ Team:**

> Hi Dr Sheerali! Thank you so much for this lovely review.

We love sharing reviews like this with our team, so we appreciate the time you have taken to give such thoughtful, considered feedback.

 ### 8. Decent, but lacking

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** J N. | Applications Analyst II, Hospital & Health Care, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 16, 2025

**What do you like best about Moodle?**

Moodle's open-source architecture and plugin-friendly environment make for a platform that can be fully customized to fit your needs... provided that you have the programming skills to create the plugins that you need. There are many available community plugins that can expand the base features but should be installed with some trepidation as just as many have not been maintained or documented sufficiently.

Learners find navigating the platform to be easy and enjoy its look-and-feel. Instructors for content that are more similar to "higher education learning" find the gradebooks to be intuitive and like the access control they have to release content on a schedule.

**What do you dislike about Moodle?**

The paid "Workplace" edition of Moodle offers a handful of additional features that would not otherwise be present, but these features fall considerably short of what the competition has to offer. That being said, their price is considerably cheaper than the alternatives. Future buyers should spend additional time during the discovery period to ensure that all needs will be met without relying on 3rd party plugins before making a decision.

Setting up the platform is complex as implementing new changes require you to navigate through many menus and sub-menus and even more hidden sub-sub-sub-menus where a single toggle can be the difference between proper access and frustration for end users. Documentation of these features is frequently lackluster and often outdated, referencing past versions that have received significant updates since. Customer Support is slow, but the Learning Designers on their team are empathetic and will take the time to research any inquiries and provide workarounds if the software does not function as expected "out-of-the-box".

**What problems is Moodle solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Moodle is, at the end of the day, a platform with higher education in mind. This includes features such as gradebooks and more interactive activities for student learning.
While it lacks the features that would make it an adequate corporate learning environment, these "education" features make it worthwhile exploring for certain types of programs (such as our apprenticeships).

**Official Response from Made Kanthicha:**

> Hi J.N.,

Thank you for taking the time to share such a detailed review. We’re glad to hear that Moodle’s open-source flexibility, intuitive navigation, and gradebook features are serving your learners and instructors well, especially for programs like apprenticeships where those strengths really shine.

It’s great to know our Learning Designers have been able to support you with empathy and practical solutions, and we’ll continue working hard to enhance the overall experience. Thank you again for your insights; they help us make Moodle stronger for all users.

The Moodle Team

 ### 10. Easy-to-Use Tool for Tracking Student Marks and Remarks

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Prathamesh B. | intern, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 04, 2026

**What do you like best about Moodle?**

The feature that allows us, as teachers, to check every student’s marks and remarks is very helpful.

**What do you dislike about Moodle?**

There isn’t really anything I don’t like about it. It’s better, and it’s easy to use.

**What problems is Moodle solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It solves the issues of managing and monitoring student data, and it also makes it easy to create and give tests to students.

**Official Response from MoodleHQ Team:**

> Hi Prathamesh! Thank you, we are so glad you are enjoying using Moodle, and we appreciate you taking the time to review our LMS.

If you'd ever like to learn more about Moodle, we encourage you to check out Moodle Academy. It's a free education hub where you can learn more about Moodle.

 ### 11. Moodle: efficient and reliable for online training

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Huguette G. | Ingénieure pédagogique multimédia, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 17, 2025

**What do you like best about Moodle?**

I particularly appreciate the variety of activities that Moodle allows us to offer: different types of quizzes, files, videos, SCORM, etc. I also like the learner tracking, which is very comprehensive and practical for assessing their progress.

**What do you dislike about Moodle?**

The quizzes lack a bit of interactivity. Moreover, it is not possible to record a single score for multiple activities: when a Storyline module includes several exercises, I am forced to add an additional activity to calculate the average for Moodle.

**What problems is Moodle solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Moodle centralizes all educational activities, which facilitates course management and learner tracking. It allows me to offer various modules (quizzes, files, videos, SCORM, etc.) while maintaining a clear view of student progress, which simplifies support and assessment.

**Official Response from Made Kanthicha:**

> Hi Huguette G,

Thank you for sharing your experience with Moodle! We’re delighted to hear that the variety of activities and comprehensive learner tracking are helping you deliver engaging courses while keeping a clear view of student progress. It’s great to know that Moodle is making course management and assessment easier for you.

 ### 12. Good Features but Not Cost-Effective for Clients

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rachel L.

**Reviewed Date:** September 19, 2025

**What do you like best about Moodle?**

I appreciate Moodle's user-friendliness; it's straightforward to understand and easy to get onboard. I find that the platform's ability to support hybrid learning through Zoom integration and virtual lesson capabilities is a valuable feature. Also, Moodle being an open-source platform is innovative, affordable, and accessible, making it a great tool for delivering solutions to underdeveloped areas. It's particularly useful as a repository for knowledge and resources, facilitating shared and inclusive education, and bridging industry and school training needs.

**What do you dislike about Moodle?**

I find Moodle problematic due to its cost concerns. It's not free of charge, which is a significant barrier for my clients who are looking for very low-cost or free-to-use solutions. Moodle may be suitable for institutions requiring a lot of functions, but it's not simple or affordable enough for users who cannot afford it or are in the initial stages of needing such a platform. Additionally, I noticed that while Moodle has multi-language options, it isn't evident from the start, as everything is initially in English. This creates a barrier to accessibility for non-English speakers who might benefit from the platform. The AI features, though claimed to be present, do not offer a multilingual option similar to more intuitive language models, which could aid in explaining Moodle's usage in local languages.

**What problems is Moodle solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Moodle serves as a knowledge repository, bridging schools and industry, enabling resource sharing and enhancing competency in underdeveloped regions. It's user-friendly, promoting inclusive education and facilitating hybrid learning despite cost barriers for some clients.

**Official Response from Made Kanthicha:**

> Hi Rachel,

Thank you for sharing your feedback and highlighting Moodle’s strengths as a user-friendly and inclusive platform.

To help users get the most out of the platform, resources such as the Moodle Academy provide free, self-paced courses designed specifically for Educators and Admins (as well as Developers). These courses guide users through best practices for teaching, learning, and administering Moodle, making it easier to adapt the platform for diverse learning environments.

For organisations looking for a more straightforward setup, MoodleCloud offers an off-the-shelf, easy-to-use solution, ideal for smaller institutions or those with limited technical expertise. And for those requiring more tailored implementations, our global network of Moodle Certified Partners and Moodle Services can provide professional support with development, training, and ongoing assistance.

We hope this helps show that flexible options are available, whether you want a simple, out-of-the-box experience or a fully customised platform, so Moodle can continue to grow with your needs.

Regards,
Moodle Team

 ### 13. Moodle: Comprehensive LMS with a Complicated User Workflow

**Rating:** 1.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Liliana C. | Teacher / YouTuber, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 17, 2025

**What do you like best about Moodle?**

"As a dedicated Learning Management System (LMS), Moodle provides a fully integrated suite of tools designed to support and manage the teaching workflow specific to higher education."

**What do you dislike about Moodle?**

"A significant drawback is Moodle's clunky user interface, which often necessitates an excessive number of clicks and time investment just to complete simple administrative tasks, such as creating a basic assignment or activity."

**What problems is Moodle solving and how is that benefiting you?**

To have a common space for me and my students, to let them know all the information about the courses that I'm teaching

**Official Response from MoodleHQ Team:**

> Hi Liliana, thank you for your review.

We'd love to have your updated feedback now that we have updated to Moodle 5.1 - one of the most exciting improvements was a cleaner interface.

 ### 14. Strengths and limitations of Moodle

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in E-Learning | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 17, 2025

**What do you like best about Moodle?**

The platform is customizable, especially when you have the ability to code in HTML or CSS. Bulk user imports via CSV file, once you understand the logic of the columns to integrate.

**What do you dislike about Moodle?**

I find the native activities of Moodle not very aesthetic, which leads me to favor the integration of external creations designed with Genially, Storyline, or H5P. Moreover, exporting the tracking and results of SCORM files is not always easy to use. The visual rendering depends a lot on the chosen theme: in our case, since the platform is managed by the Region, we do not have control over the theme or the code, which greatly limits customization.

**What problems is Moodle solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Moodle centralizes all educational resources and training activities in one place, making it easier for learners to access content. It also allows tracking of each individual's progress and organizing bulk imports via CSV, which is convenient for managing large groups.

**Official Response from Made Kanthicha:**

> Hi,

Thank you for sharing your experience with Moodle! We’re glad to hear that the platform’s customisation options, centralised course management, and bulk user imports have been valuable in supporting your training needs. It’s great to know Moodle is helping you simplify access to resources and track learner progress.

 ### 15. Used Moodle for a bit, it works but not super easy

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Gonzalo A. | EdTech Implementation & LMS Support Specialist, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 06, 2025

**What do you like best about Moodle?**

I like that you can build pretty much any course in Moodle. There are a lot of plugins and settings, so you can set it up the way you want. It works fine, nothing fancy, just does the job

**What do you dislike about Moodle?**

The interface looks old and kinda confusing. Sometimes it takes too long to find simple things. You really need someone who knows how to manage it, otherwise you get lost fast. Would be nice if it was more simple and modern

**What problems is Moodle solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Helps keep all course stuff in one place and track students. Easy to send tasks and get their answers. It works, but setup takes more time than I wish

**Official Response from MoodleHQ Team:**

> Thank you for this, Gonzalo - we appreciate you taking the time to give us such valuable feedback.

Regards,
Moodle

 ### 16. I've used it in the past 4 years for my Legal English programs

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Esther F. | Business owner and language coach, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 31, 2025

**What do you like best about Moodle?**

What I like best about Moodle is that, once you get the hang of it, it can do almost everything you need. At first, it was a bit overwhelming, but I followed a tutorial and, after a few attempts, I managed to set up my courses and grading system. Now I use it every day.

Moodle is really flexible. I can create detailed courses with quizzes, forums, and assignments, and it helps me track student progress easily. Correcting essays takes me less than five minutes per submission once I have my system in place.

The fact that it’s open-source is a big plus. I’m not tied to a specific provider, and I can find plugins or solutions when I need them. Moodle does not provide customer support as such. However, there are community forums and a knowledge base (I use it in English and Spanish) that are helpful, even though sometimes it takes a bit of searching.

Moodle has become an essential part of my teaching, and I’m glad I kept going despite the initial learning curve.

**What do you dislike about Moodle?**

What I dislike about Moodle is that it wasn’t easy to set up at first. It took me a few attempts to integrate it into my own domain, and that part was frustrating. I’m not super tech-savvy, so it was a relief when it finally worked.

The biggest downside is the learning curve. The interface can feel cluttered and a bit old-fashioned, and there are so many features that it’s easy to get lost. I wish Moodle had a simpler, beginner-friendly mode or clearer guidance. Without proper training, it’s easy to miss important tools or use them incorrectly.

**What problems is Moodle solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Moodle helps me keep everything in one place. I can organize courses, track student progress, and manage assignments without jumping between different tools. It saves me a lot of time and makes it easier for my students to stay on top of deadlines and see how they’re doing.

**Official Response from Made Kanthicha:**

 ### 17. Good resource for course management

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Crystal M. | Assistant Professor, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 13, 2025

**What do you like best about Moodle?**

I use Moodle every semester for my courses! I love that I can import previous courses, so I'm not starting from scratch every year. I appreciate the ability to create online quizzes somewhat quickly. It's a relatively easy system to use. It's a great tool that integrates every aspect of my courses I can .

**What do you dislike about Moodle?**

Administering quizzes can be a little clunky at times. I wish it was easier to change assignment dates (like drag them in a calendar) - or easier to find features like the student overrides. Another minor annoyance: In the latest update, the shortcut key for shifting to the next cell in Gradebook (Tab key) shifts to the next assignment entry for a particular student, rather than the next student for a particular assignment. It's rare that I'm grading all assignments for one student in a sitting - rather I'm usually entering grades for one assignment for all students. I haven't found anyway to change this feature in the documentation.

**What problems is Moodle solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I'm able to administer quizzes to students, keep them informed about their grades throughout the semester, email class lists, etc.

**Official Response from Made Kanthicha:**

 ### 22. Flexible and Powerful LMS, but Needs Smoother Updates

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Amey D. | Project Lead & Business Solutions Specialist - LMS, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 03, 2025

**What do you like best about Moodle?**

Moodle is one of the most flexible and feature-rich open-source Learning Management Systems available. I love that it allows complete customization - from course structure to user roles, plugin integrations, and UI themes. The large global community means continuous innovation and support. It's especially valuable for institutions or training providers looking for a self-hosted, cost-effective platform without compromising on features. The ability to scale and extend Moodle with plugins is a huge plus.

**What do you dislike about Moodle?**

The update process could be much more streamlined. Currently, it requires several manual steps - from backing up the database and replacing core files to checking plugin compatibility. This makes regular updates more cumbersome than they should be, especially for those managing multiple instances. A more automated update mechanism or even a built-in one-click updater would significantly improve the admin experience.

**What problems is Moodle solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Moodle helps centralize and streamline the entire learning experience - from course delivery and assessments to tracking learner progress and communication. It solves the problem of fragmented training tools by offering a single, customizable platform that supports diverse content types, role-based access, and detailed analytics. For me, it's been especially beneficial in delivering structured learning at scale, with the flexibility to tailor the platform to specific organizational or academic needs. Being open-source also keeps long-term costs under control while offering full control over data and functionality.

**Official Response from Made Kanthicha:**

> Hi Amey,

Thank you for your thoughtful review!
We're glad to hear you value Moodle's flexibility, rich feature set, and the benefits of our open-source model especially for scaling structured learning while maintaining control and cost-efficiency.

 ### 27. Use of Moodle as a teacher and as an educational coordinator.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Alberto J. | Coordenador do Laboratório de Inovações Pedagógicas - Head of the Educational Innovations Laboratory, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 04, 2024

**What do you like best about Moodle?**

Moodle is stable, a fundamental aspect for maintaining and managing courses in the long term. It is flexible, with a huge number of Addons available that have always allowed me to adapt it to different needs I had. Furthermore, an even more fundamental aspect, as it is open-source software, I was able to adapt plugins and tailor them precisely to the needs I encountered. For example, we modified the certificate issuance plugin to allow multiple automated digital signatures on the same certificate.

Also precious is the support from the community, always a partner and with interesting solutions.

A quality that is often pointed out as a weakness (I see it as a quality) is that using Moodle implies bringing into the institution the competence for its management and maintenance. A common phrase, it's not free, it's open-source, it has a significant cost to be maintained, but you have complete control over the system. You replace the phrase "the system doesn't do that" from proprietary LMS with "I don't know how to do that yet," which reveals who is responsible for the LMS resources in use.

**What do you dislike about Moodle?**

I cannot present the point I bring here as a criticism, as I do not see how it could be improved, but it is worth mentioning. The handling and adaptation of tables is very complex, if it were possible, I would think of an interface that simplified the handling and searching of data in the tables. Generating usage reports other than those that already came by default has always been very laborious and complex.
Two other issues brought difficulties when I was responsible for managing the LMS:
1) updating to version 3 (some time ago) when it was necessary to redo a large part of the course structure (I saw this resolved in the migration from 3 to 4) and
2) The time required to back up complete courses. As I worked with courses with many images, the time for copying and backing up courses, internally in Moodle, was always very long, often longer than the time the server maintained the connection, sometimes forcing the process to be restarted.

**What problems is Moodle solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Enabled the agile implementation of the courses that were under my responsibility, all of them perfectly suited to the requirements of the clients we served.

**Official Response from Made Kanthicha:**

> Hi Alberto,

It's great to hear that Moodle has enabled you to efficiently implement courses tailored to your clients' needs. The stability and flexibility are what set Moodle apart from its competitors. We're committed to continuously enhancing the platform to better serve our users.

**Reviewed by:** Henri K. | Head of Education, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 25, 2025

**What do you like best about Moodle?**

 ### 29. Moodle - takes a villiage

**Rating:** 2.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 04, 2025

**What do you like best about Moodle?**

Moodle has been around for a long time, and has been popular in K-12, so many are familiar with it from prior use - making it easy to use. You can save money by self-hosting, and it is customizable, but it takes an individual with good programming skills. The care and feeding of a self-hosted Moodle takes a villiage on-site and assistance from the community. Moodle developers are open to input from users, but it takes a lot of time and persistence to make changes.

**What do you dislike about Moodle?**

If you need to troubleshoot a problem, and you are self-hosted, you can't just "call Moodle customer support" and get help. There are tons of forums to search through, and often, it is like searching for a needle in a haystack. There are so many options, settings, and "hidden" features that the system can feel very overwhelming.

**What problems is Moodle solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Self-hosted Moodle provides a financially feasible LMS for all of our students. It makes residential and online learning consistent.

**Official Response from Made Kanthicha:**

> Hi there,

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We appreciate your thoughts on Moodle’s self-hosted option.

If you're looking for an easier setup with built-in hosting and support, MoodleCloud offers a quick and affordable way to access Moodle’s core functionality—ideal for businesses and organisations. It requires minimum technical expertise and is ready to use in seconds.

 ### 30. An intuitive and easy to use LMS system

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Catherine C. | Chief Executive Officer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 23, 2024

**What do you like best about Moodle?**

Our Association is only just starting to move into the online learning space by developing our small short courses for our industry.

I knew of Moodle through hearing about other people's experience in the online learning space but I looked at a few different options to make sure I was getting the best system . I decided to sign up to Moodle Cloud as I thought this would be the best option as I did not want to spend too much money while I was teaching myself how to create an online course.

I am happy to say that Moodle had a comprehensive learning database and short courses which made it easy to learn how to use their system.

In the six months that I have been using Moodle I have successfully created two small short courses and rolled them out to members of our Association. Our Association has 37 people enrolled across the two courses which is encouraging. Of those, only two participants experienced difficulties in completing the course or navigating the online LMS.

I have had good support from Moodle when I have needed to contact them after not being able to work out a solution to a problem I kept encounting.

**What do you dislike about Moodle?**

With many tools it is hard to know when to use the right one.

**What problems is Moodle solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Our Association has had to pivot to online learning as traditional, face to face, onsite learning/teaching opportunities is limited for our industry.

With Moodle we are able to reach more of our members who are spread over a large geographical area.

**Official Response from Made Kanthicha:**

> Hi Catherine,

Thank you for sharing your positive experience with Moodle. We're pleased to hear that you found our system easy to learn and that it has enabled you to successfully create and roll out courses to your Association members.

Moodle is designed to offer flexibility and adaptability to meet your organisation's unique needs. We are dedicated to improving our platform to provide the best learning experience.

 ### 31. User Friendly

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Lisa C. | Consultant, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 18, 2024

**What do you like best about Moodle?**

I use Moodle almost every day and I find it user friendly. When I click on the site home page, it has all the courses listed which makes it to clicks the course that I want to go to.
I like the fact that each group that I assess is seperated so when I click on submissions and needs grading, it filters everything for me instead of me searching for a learner.
It also shows me follow ups , if a learner re-submitted a specfic assessment , it states re-submission so that I know this is not a new submission,

**What do you dislike about Moodle?**

There are system problems that was faced recently with modules not showing that suppose to be showing under specific learners or myself which lead to a delay is assessments.

**What problems is Moodle solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The fact that I can assess learners all over South Africa without having to courier assessments each time and feedback is immediate.

**Official Response from Made Kanthicha:**

> Hi Lisa,

 ### 33. Versatile learning management platform

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Cassious M. | Manager: Strategy and acting digital transformation lead, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 22, 2024

**What do you like best about Moodle?**

The flexibility of the platform is catering for different organisational needs. We are a development organisation with several programmes, some of which do not even fit the learning part, such as workshop facilitation or dicussion focurms, and with the features and the ability to integrate with other platforms, we are still able to support learning, coollaboration, etc. It is also easy to use by our beneficiaries and internal teams, and with the support of an expert service provider, Open Learning Technologies, it was easy to drive our programmes and thus implement withtout many challenges.

**What do you dislike about Moodle?**

WIthout internal technical expdertise, it requires dependency of a service provider and this may be costly, even if it is open access.

**What problems is Moodle solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We have digitised our education development prorgamme for teachers in rural areas with the intention of easy scaling to cover more schools.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Felix N. | CRM Lead, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 04, 2025

**What do you like best about Moodle?**

Moodle is an effective tool to organize educational content in modules and integrate apps or activities from other platforms.

**What do you dislike about Moodle?**

Some of the features are not completely user friendly, understanding that the app is also used by students. Also, the test or exams module is confusing to set.

None, at the moment.

**Official Response from Made Kanthicha:**

 ### 35. Moodle is a flexible open-source Learning Management System

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 22, 2017

**What do you like best about Moodle?**

Moodle provides the flexibility that you are looking for in an LMS. It allows you to manage your content effectively, organise it in a meaningful way, assess your students through a variety of activities and provide feedback. What makes Moodle flexible is the number of integrations available for other learning and teaching software. Moodle also integrates with other systems, such Turnitin Similarity/Feedback Studio, Zoom, Panopto, Blackboard Ally and more, which allows for a more consistent experience. Moodle works as a central hub and is connected to every other service that a organisation might be using alongside it.

**What do you dislike about Moodle?**

Moodle can be quite complicated sometimes and its ways to achieve things are quite long-winded. You need to spent a lot of time to figure out why learners can't submit an assessment or why they can't the feedback you have provided in assignments. Some standard activities (such as Moodle Lesson) are best to be avoided and replaced by third-party software (such as H5P).

**What problems is Moodle solving and how is that benefiting you?**

One system to organise learning content and run assessment for our learner. There is a seamless integration with our Student Record System, Zoom and Panopto (our VCMS).

 ### 36. Awesome Experience

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Olawale M. | Distance Learning Coordinator, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 02, 2025

**What do you like best about Moodle?**

Moodle's open-source nature and extensive range of features—particularly its grading tools, activity management, and scalability—made it the perfect choice for both small and large-scale courses.

**What do you dislike about Moodle?**

Nothing much, as all I see with Moodle is great

**What problems is Moodle solving and how is that benefiting you?**

 ### 38. Frappe Helpdesk Integration with Moodle LMS

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Muhammad Naveed, D. | Assistant Director IT, Information Technology and Services, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 24, 2024

**What do you like best about Moodle?**

Moodle is a flexible and quite customizable, open-source learning management system it provides users with a friendly interface for education management functionalities. It assists in collaborative learning through coursework assignments, quiz setups, interactive video lectures and many other curriculum features, it also gives strong reporting and analytics on student progress. Integration of Moodle with different educational tools and systems extends its functionality, centralizes learning activity, and strengthens data management.
These features make Moodle cost-effective and powerful for any educational institution.

**What do you dislike about Moodle?**

While customizable and flexible, Moodle is still quite complex for new users to use, and requires a learning curve. The default interface may look a bit outdated, and large-scale deployments may experience performance issues. Without additional plugins, feature availability could be less. The official support options are rare compared to what one would get from a commercial provider.

**What problems is Moodle solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It provides full course management, collaborative learning tools, and robust analytics to meet the demand for a flexible and easily customizable learning management system. The users benefit from it by having educational activities centralized, rich student engagement, and gaining profound insight into the process of learning. Because it is open source, this allows for its cost-effective implementation and extensive customization to meet specific institutional requirements.

**Official Response from Made Kanthicha:**

> Hi Muhammad,

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on Moodle. We appreciate your insights on its flexibility and customisation options, as well as its strong reporting and analytics capabilities.

 ### 41. Moodle - An Easy to Use LMS

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ester R. | Dean and Accreditation Liaison Officer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 27, 2024

**What do you like best about Moodle?**

Easy to set up and implement system, user friendly, great for repository of information; easy to train faculty and students; can add institutional branding, can use for variety of things such as courses, program review, student workspaces, faculty workspaces, curriculum management, etc.

**What do you dislike about Moodle?**

Does not have all of the functionality of more robust LMS systems, doesn't offer many customization tools, layout is a bit archaic; importing and exporting courses take several steps and the process is very clunky. Customer Support is lacking and takes a great deal of time to get answers for issues.

**What problems is Moodle solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use Moodle primarily to offer courses to students; we also use Moodle to house our program review and curriculum management processes. Moodle helps us organize information and have a centralized place to direct students, faculty, and admin to work through key processes. Because Moodle is so easy to use it has been a breeze to train all users on using the system.

**Official Response from Made Kanthicha:**
