We've been trying to figure out which are the most popular RPA solutions for retail businesses specifically, and whether the answer is actually different from the general enterprise shortlist or if everyone's just using the same tools. Retail has some specific quirks like high seasonal spikes, messy supplier data, returns processing that varies by channel, and it's not obvious every platform handles those equally well.
Here's the full list we've been evaluating:
- UiPath Agentic Automation: Computer vision and document understanding make it relevant for messy supplier invoices and shelf-level data capture. How does it handle seasonal volume spikes?
- Automation Anywhere Agentic Process Automation: Cloud-native, which matters if you're managing distributed store networks. Does the scale-up experience actually feel seamless?
- Microsoft Power Automate: The go-to for Microsoft-stack retailers, strong for supply chain and HR workflows. Does it struggle outside that ecosystem though?
- SS&C Blue Prism Intelligent Automation Platform: Comes up in enterprise retail where governance and audit trails matter alongside the automation itself.
- Appian: More of a low-code process play but keeps appearing in retail transformation conversations, particularly where workflows cut across multiple departments.
- IBM Robotic Process Automation (RPA): The AI-enhanced bots seem worth it specifically when dealing with inconsistent data from logistics partners or suppliers.
Are there platforms performing well in retail that we're completely missing? Also curious whether anyone has successfully automated customer-facing workflows like loyalty updates or returns handling, or does RPA mostly stay in the back office in this vertical?
One thing I forgot to mention, we've been specifically curious about grocery and FMCG retail, where the SKU volumes are massive and the supplier data is all over the place. Does that change the answer at all?
