I think yourls is perfect for our organization and fulfills every need we have about url shortening and tracking of statistics, analytics and country of origin. **What problems is YOURLS solving and how is that benefiting you?** Yourls provides us with our own implementation of a URL shortener and analytics for each url we've shortened. With customizable urls, we can provide more appealing short links that make sense to users. ### 3. But it’s not as straightforward to set up, a bit more technically challenging to use, and has less complete analytics functionality **What do you dislike about YOURLS?** Set-up is brief and straightforward with only a few variables to fill in, but you will need to do a bit of digging here and there to get it working exactly how you want it. The basic functionality of Yourls does the job well, but you’ll probably want to customize things a bit **What problems is YOURLS solving and how is that benefiting you?** One very handy option in Yourls which could elevate it over Bit.ly pro for some users, is that you have full control over the length of the custom short URL you’re creating. Where bit.ly always attached 6 characters to the domain to create a short URL, with Yourls you can suffice with just one character if you so fancy. This enables you to make your short URLs very short indeed. ### 5. I also like that you can make it public or private and that you can pick your custom keyword URLs. **What do you dislike about YOURLS?** It can be a little confusing to figure out if you have never created one before. **Recommendations to others considering YOURLS:** Do your research to make sure this is what you want to make your URL shortener. Make sure you take your time to understand the program because it can be computer tech sounding and doing some research will help you figure it out on your own. You can also get assistance with their customer service if that is still too confusing. It is very easy to use with very good feature thus accessible for all. **What do you dislike about YOURLS?** At the beginning , it takes a little time to understand it. Afterwards you get used to of it and then it gets easier. **Recommendations to others considering YOURLS:** It has make the work easier and very much comfy because you can easily share your data without the requirement of sharing your URLs and helps you communicate with all. And another great feature about this product is it could be used as Private - your links only or Public - anyone can create short links, it also provides traffic statistics, location and sources, good for developers as it is available on GitHub, jsonp support, ajax dashboard, plugins to avoid bloating when customizing, etc among lot of other things. Also, the number od plugins available are constantly growing and I would expect it to grow even more in the future as it is open-source and people will keep contributing to it. **What do you dislike about YOURLS?** It is not really an issue but I do not find the installation straight-forward. You need to perform multiple steps and also some additional database configuration which I dislike. Also, when I was on their website the website did seem to be attractive, though that is not an issue and does not make the product less useful. **Recommendations to others considering YOURLS:** Definitely worth trying once to get past the installation stuff. Especially for developers it is really useful and has documentation on how to install. There is also some external documentation I guess available related to this. **What problems is YOURLS solving and how is that benefiting you?** We wanted to have something which is free and open-source and wanted some custom changes made to it which would make the product more usable and close to what we want to use it for. Also, the support for jsonp, ajax interface and traffic statistics, location and source helps provide more detail. ### 9. The interface is neat and easy to use and i am happy to limit some URLs private. Nice feature. Embedding analytics is another cool feature I would love about this tool. **What do you dislike about YOURLS?** I wish I could have known this a long time ago as I have been a heavy bitly user. It would be nice if this can be made as an extension to the browser. **Recommendations to others considering YOURLS:** Very easy to use, and best of all, it is FREE **What problems is YOURLS solving and how is that benefiting you?** I am able to shorten any size URL so I can easily share it with my business, and team. Also, I was able to realize who is using my links and was able to tweak the information provided on the shared dashboards. Its use and configuration are very simple. Additionally, it is free and open-source software and includes simple examples to help us get used to its use from the very first moment. It includes an administration panel where we can obtain statistics about the traffic of visitors to the website who have used the URL shortener. **What do you dislike about YOURLS?** It is very basic, which can be both an advantage and a disadvantage as it may lack functionalities depending on the case. The statistics and graphs on the administration panel are very basic.
