## YouMail Reviews
  ### 1. Early adopter, 10+ years user

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Brittanie M. | Founder/President, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 01, 2024

**What do you like best about YouMail?**

The smart greeting, selection of specialty/custom greetings, transcribed voicemails and familiarity due to being a long time user for at 13-14 years or more

**What do you dislike about YouMail?**

Cost, user interface, limited functionality of app, and the lack of appreciation, rewards/discounts, focus on keeping customer satisfaction/loyalty etc

**What problems is YouMail solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Custom greetings, call tracking, voicemail transcription

  ### 2. Significant improvements over the past several years.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jeff S. | Principal Broker & Founder, Management Consulting, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 14, 2017

**What do you like best about YouMail?**

Automated attendant that greets callers by their name.

**What do you dislike about YouMail?**

User interface is still tired. Lack of consistency between web and app design.

**What problems is YouMail solving and how is that benefiting you?**

None really. When it works sending voice to text to email is nice because it can be forwarded.

  ### 3. Youmail wasn't the fit...

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Brandon D. | President, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 07, 2022

**What do you like best about YouMail?**

YouMail's management of phone calls is top-notch. They have very elaborate ways of setting your system up. Their Spam Blocker is second to none. YouMail is definitively in the top 5 in their field.

**What do you dislike about YouMail?**

The least helpful thing about YouMail for me is the lack of a web application. I need to be able to handle phone calls on a PC during the day, and YouMail doesn't offer a solution here.

**What problems is YouMail solving and how is that benefiting you?**

YouMail's spam blocker is a huge plus, especially in this day and time. The amount of spam calls one receives can cost you a significant part of your day, but time is not lost if those are intercepted. I applaud YouMail for their work here. Beyond that, the call answering system is grade A. There is tremendous flexibility.

  ### 4. Great Voicemail Service!

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ben L. | New Jersey VMware User Group Leader, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 17, 2022

**What do you like best about YouMail?**

I loved the voicemail transcription service that would allow me to read my voicemails via email or via the Youmail app without having to listen to the message.

**What do you dislike about YouMail?**

Sometimes the transcription service would not understand the person and transcribe the wrong word. However, I'm usually able to understand what they actually said. I could always listen to the message itself to hear what was said too.

**What problems is YouMail solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I enjoyed being able to go into the YouMail app and see a list of missed calls, access my voicemail messages, and I also liked that it would email me transcriptions of voicemails when they were left.

  ### 5. Extremely Useful…terribly too expensive

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Anna S. | Legislative Committee, Civic & Social Organization, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 12, 2021

**What do you like best about YouMail?**

I love the number of Voicemails you can receive and keep compared to your service provider's standard mailbox. A lot of the things that I love come with the steep subscription Plus plan, which is the next tier up from basic/free. You're able to determine the level of spam blocking protection, including who or under what circumstances they may leave a voicemail. You can block spam texts and mark them as spam right from your text messages. I love that you can star important voicemails, so if you listened to it but didn't have a chance to respond, you can go back to it very quickly and easily, especially when the messages are typed out in print as well.

**What do you dislike about YouMail?**

For the version that is one step up from basic (which does not provide anything different than your standard voicemail box), it is costly for ONE user. For the Non-Business, just Plus plan for One person is $7.99/mo or $79.99/year. That's more expensive than Microsoft 365 monthly!

**What problems is YouMail solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I'm terrible at emptying my voicemails, as I also save specific ones for specific purposes in the future. It helps solve the problem of choosing which voicemails to delete or not. With the voicemail to text, which isn't very accurate all the time, it is still easier to glance at the message and have the one you're looking for quickly, especially if you have multiple from the same individual.

  ### 6. App has gone south the past 6 months

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Media Production | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 25, 2022

**What do you like best about YouMail?**

It blocks spam calls and that's the only thing I want it to do. Without ads and bouncing around and not allowing me to exit the ad

**What do you dislike about YouMail?**

I get totally stuck on an ad selling video games. They're using this to milk me for a paid subscription!! When I hit call to return a call my screen blinks and then goes to the stupid game ad

**Recommendations to others considering YouMail:**

If you don't want to pay $5.99 a month to get rid of their stupid video game ads you will have functionality blocks by the ads

**What problems is YouMail solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It's blocking my spam calls and that's valuable and saves me time

  ### 7. Love the product, but ...

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** ERIC H. | Real Estate Broker / Owner, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 15, 2021

**What do you like best about YouMail?**

automated attendant, for all my contacts

**What do you dislike about YouMail?**

too many rings, before answering using verizon

**What problems is YouMail solving and how is that benefiting you?**

submitted a new payment method, which is not working (this needs to be resolved)

  ### 8. They deleted 30 years worth of contacts. Horrible customer service. This could cost me millions.

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Carey G. | EXECUTIVE PRODUCER, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 21, 2021

**What do you like best about YouMail?**

NOTHING! It's an unreliable app. Stay away.

**What do you dislike about YouMail?**

The action button is confusing and it caused me to lose 1000's of contacts. No way to export contacts.

**Recommendations to others considering YouMail:**

STAY AWAY!!! NOT RELIABLE FOR BUSINESS!

**What problems is YouMail solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I thought it would help my small business instead it has put in on death watch.

  ### 9. Permanently hijacked my call forwarding and voicemail

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Richard T. | Senior Instructional Designer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 16, 2020

**What do you like best about YouMail?**

I installed this app a year ago on an old phone to screen spam calls. It does that. But Google call screener is better. Otherwise, it's nothing special and not worth the risk of it breaking your call forwarding (see below).

**What do you dislike about YouMail?**

I strongly advise against installing this app. YouMail hijacked my voicemail forwarding. I've run the MMI codes, followed Youmail's deactivation instructions, spent a couple hours on the phone with T-Mobile troubleshooting. I cannot get my vm back even after I got a new phone (which YouMail was never even installed on). I'm missing calls and not getting messages, and I'm afraid now I might need to change my number. This has become a huge ongoing problem for me, one that YouMail seems unable to resolve.

**Recommendations to others considering YouMail:**

Don't.

**What problems is YouMail solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I haven't realized any benefits. The call screening was nice until I got a phone with Google call screener, now I no longer need it. Unfortunately, even after getting the new phone (which I never installed YouMail on) I can't get it to stop forwarding calls to my YouMail inbox, despite running MMI codes and deleting my account as instructed by YouMail.

  ### 10. Don not get this App

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Education Management | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 14, 2018

**What do you like best about YouMail?**

It sounded very good to have robocalls decreased or eliminated

**What do you dislike about YouMail?**

Youmail was more annoying than robocalls. There are frequent messages to upgrade and more importantly, messages from family and friends had to be retrieved via my email and the message callers received was robotic and not at all welcoming.

**What problems is YouMail solving and how is that benefiting you?**

None

  ### 11. Call screening and text voicemail

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Justin C. | Gastroenterologist, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 09, 2017

**What do you like best about YouMail?**

able to screen calls and block callers or robocalls

**What do you dislike about YouMail?**

Easy to lose track of missed calls and messages

**What problems is YouMail solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Able to screen calls

  ### 12. Very tricky to use

**Rating:** 1.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Public Safety | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 19, 2017

**What do you like best about YouMail?**

It’s interesting as a novelty software, but not necessary as a business utility.

**What do you dislike about YouMail?**

It’s unable to be used on certain carriers, and they make it very difficult to setup.

**What problems is YouMail solving and how is that benefiting you?**

None at the moment.

  ### 13. Great visual voicemail app.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Greg K. | Technical Support & Software Trainer, Translation and Localization, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 27, 2016

**What do you like best about YouMail?**

YouMail is one of the best visual voicemail options available. It's free and helps you better manage your voice mails than through your phone provider's system. It allows you to sync your contacts to the app, which helps better organize things as calls come in.

**What do you dislike about YouMail?**

Google Fi is not a supported carrier, so I can no longer use YouMail as I did when I had T-Mobile.

**Recommendations to others considering YouMail:**

Allow Google Fi customers to use YouMail on their network. I loved using it on my T-Mobile phone, but now I have Google Fi, which isn't listed in the supported carriers list.

**What problems is YouMail solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It helps organize your voice mails in one box, allowing you to get through them quickly.

  ### 14. YouMail is the BEST automated secretary for my device. It delivers a personal greeting on my behalf.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 09, 2016

**What do you like best about YouMail?**

I really like the automated personal greeting(s) YouMail delivers for my answering service. I no longer have to use the bland automated answering service by my provider. YouMail gives me the ability to personally greet my callers and make them feel special and SURPRISED when they are greeted with my message when I can't get to the phone. Not only does this make my callers feel special it makes them feel connected to me when YouMail greeted them by their name. I have received so many OHHH's and HOW NICE when I reach back out to the callers who left a voicemail message.

**What do you dislike about YouMail?**

It's not a dislike but I wish there were several other personal greetings to choose from but this is just a very very small wish.

**Recommendations to others considering YouMail:**

Lower price solution
Flexibility to customize
Eliminates unwanted Robo calls
Personalized voicemail
Ease of use

**What problems is YouMail solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The business problems we are solving using this service is, it personally connects with our customers/callers and it makes them feel welcome and received when their name is pronounced/announced during the message. Using YouMail also provides a much better LOW COST solution to using voicemail. All of our employees use the service so regardless who is getting a call and not available they caller is greeted with a personal message. We have heard from customers that being greeted by their name connect them with us and they feel appreciated as a customer. Lastly, we can get rid of the annoying robo calls we receive by customizing YouMail to block them.

  ### 15. YouMail is great if you don't have visual voice mail and even better if you want some extras...

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 30, 2016

**What do you like best about YouMail?**

It is essentially visual voicemail but with the added perks of answering your callers by name (what!?!?) and also transcribing voice mails so you do not have to listen to them, you can just read them instead. The transcription is fairly accurate.

**What do you dislike about YouMail?**

This is no knock on you mail, but transcription as a whole needs to get better at picking up accents in non native speakers.

**Recommendations to others considering YouMail:**

Just get it, its not that expensive, and its free to try as of this review.

**What problems is YouMail solving and how is that benefiting you?**

No real business problems, but it makes me as a whole seem more professional. I really like not having to listen to voicemails.

  ### 16. Complicated to Setup

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mark R. | VP of Sales, Computer Software, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 14, 2013

**What do you like best about YouMail?**

I came across this in the list on this site and decided to give it a try. I really liked the concept. If I could get it setup and working properly I would be able to better answer this question.

**What do you dislike about YouMail?**

I have been in IT for 30 years and load and setup apps all the time. I can not figure out how to get this one to work. The FAQS are pretty limited. I messed up my password. You have to create a separate login to their helpdesk to get a password reset. Kind of annoying.

**Recommendations to others considering YouMail:**

Be prepared to struggle with setup.

  ### 17. Amazing Voicemail Solution for iPhone

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Michael F. | Senior Technical Account Manager, Team Lead, Computer Software, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 16, 2012

**What do you like best about YouMail?**

Voicemails comes to you via txt message, e-mail and through the app itself. You can set custom messages based on who is calling. It will say the name of the caller if they are in your phonebook. Voicemail transcription is also an amazing feature, I use it all the time while in meetings where I cannot take the call or listen to the message, but do have the ability to read e-mail.

**What do you dislike about YouMail?**

Text transcription is not cheap, and it works just ok.

**Recommendations to others considering YouMail:**

Due to restrictions from Apple and Google not spending a lot of design time for Google Voice on iOS, YouMail is an awesome solution for receiving voicemail, having it come to your phone via the app, txr message and email. You can also add custom greetings for friends and family, and institute a temporary response based on availability.

  ### 18. Good way to get voicemails in other formats - but Google Voice is better option

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Eugene C. | Partner, Venture Capital & Private Equity, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 02, 2012

**What do you like best about YouMail?**

Just signed up for this -- it was easy and fast (just need to enter in a TXT activation code or dial their number -- which is what I did). It's *free* for the basic version so that's a huge feature. Can't wait to avoid listening to my voicemail box (which I never do anyways)

**What do you dislike about YouMail?**

Transcription costs $$ (20 msgs for $5/mo) , and up from there -- doesn't Google Voice do this for free?

**Recommendations to others considering YouMail:**

Be careful about their automatic cleanup plan which will delete voicemails after 30 days.
Callers who leave a voicemail are defaulted to receive a TXT msg receipt advertising Youmail and which may also cost them txt msg fees - be sure to change this setting.

  ### 19. Replace your cell phone voicemail with this amazing tool

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rusty P. | Senior Director of Global Operations and Quality, Medical Devices, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 28, 2012

**What do you like best about YouMail?**

By replacing my Verizon voicemail with this service I am able to route all voicemails through YouMail. This allows me to get email notifications when I miss a call or transcribed emails of all voicemails. Since I cannot always be available via phone, this allows me to easily see who called and what they want.

**What do you dislike about YouMail?**

The transcription quality seems to be getting a little worse, but I still get the general idea.

**Recommendations to others considering YouMail:**

Look at this or Google Voice.
