"Fast Setup and Flexibility Make Vultr Stand Out"

5/5

What do you like best about Vultr?

I use Vultr for hosting my "hot backup" data, and it helps me store backups in the same region as my AWS region. I really like the ease of use and how fast I can set up everything. The ability to spin up a 72 core 512GB RAM server or a 512MB server within 2 minutes is incredibly valuable for running projects of any size. The initial setup was very easy too. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Vultr?

I think the fact that they keep updating the UI is a bit bad cuz I get used to a certain interface. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Vultr solving and how is that benefiting you?

Vultr helps me store backups in the same region as my AWS region. I find it easy to use and quick to set up, allowing me to spin up servers of any size within minutes for any project. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Fraudulent behavior: Account verified, $100 taken, then banned within 24 hours."

0/5

What do you like best about Vultr?

The user interface is clean, and the initial server deployment process is fast. They offer a wide range of locations and instance types, which makes it look like a professional and developer-friendly service at first glance. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Vultr?

Their automated security system is predatory. I registered a legitimate account for my business (first-time user, no multi-accounting), provided all requested ID documents, and was officially verified. However, immediately after I deposited $100 and installed Dokploy, they banned my account without any explanation.

What is most unacceptable is that they are refusing to refund my unused deposit for services they never provided. Their support, including "Ruby J.", only sends canned, automated responses and ignores the fact that they are essentially seizing my company's funds. It feels like a "bait-and-switch" scheme: verify the user, take their money, and then terminate the service within 24 hours without a refund. This is an unprofessional and untrustworthy way to treat business customers. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Vultr solving and how is that benefiting you?

I chose Vultr to solve the challenge of deploying and managing a scalable backend for a new business project. My goal was to use their high-performance VPS instances to run Dokploy, allowing for efficient container orchestration and rapid deployment of our microservices. The platform’s global data center locations and competitive price-to-performance ratio were supposed to help us maintain low latency for our users while keeping infrastructure costs manageable during the MVP stage. Unfortunately, instead of solving these technical problems, Vultr created a major business hurdle by seizing my $100 deposit and terminating the account immediately after a successful document verification, leaving our deployment plans in limbo. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Blazing Performance, Predictable Pricing, and a Refreshingly Simple UI"

4.5/5

What do you like best about Vultr?

Performance: The Raw Power Advantage

The first thing I noticed was the sheer speed. With many providers we’ve used in the past, performance often felt throttled or tied to older hardware; Vultr, by contrast, feels built for high-stakes environments.

Our Experience: We moved our database-heavy applications to their High-Frequency Compute nodes (utilizing 3GHz+ AMD EPYC™ processors).

The Result: We saw an immediate 30% reduction in page load times. The NVMe storage they provide isn’t just a marketing buzzword—it delivers the IOPS we need for real-time data processing, without the “noisy neighbor” lag we ran into on other platforms.

AI / Intelligence: Fueling Our Growth

As our company started integrating more machine learning models, I was concerned about the costs of GPU instances skyrocketing.

What I Like: Vultr makes high-end hardware like the NVIDIA B200 accessible.

The Benefit to Us: We don’t have to commit to massive three-year contracts just to get a seat at the table. Their Kubernetes (VKE) integration with GPU nodes let our team spin up training environments in minutes, and that has been a game-changer for our internal AI development.

UI / UX: Clean and Efficient

I’ve spent far too many hours of my life lost in the “maze” of the AWS Management Console.

Our Take: Vultr’s UI is a breath of fresh air—remarkably flat and intuitive. I can hand the dashboard to a junior engineer, and they can have a global load balancer configured in ten minutes without needing a certification.

Global Footprint: With 32+ locations, we’ve been able to deploy our services physically closer to our clients in London, Tokyo, and Sydney, all through one unified, simple interface.

Pricing / ROI: No More “Bill Shock”

The biggest win for our bottom line has been predictability.

The Problem: In the past, our monthly cloud bill felt like a guessing game because of complex “egress” and “API request” fees.

The Solution: Vultr’s flat pricing model is transparent. We now save roughly 40% monthly compared to our previous hyperscaler setup. The ROI isn’t only in the lower price point; it’s also in the hours our finance team saves by not having to audit a 50-page invoice every month.

Integrations: Developer-First Architecture

We’re an “Infrastructure-as-Code” shop, so integrations are vital to our workflow.

Our Workflow: We use the Vultr Terraform provider to automate our entire stack, and it works flawlessly.

What’s Missing: If you’re looking for a “one-click” marketplace for every obscure business app, you won’t find it here. Vultr provides the “bricks,” but we still had to do a bit more of the “building” ourselves.

Support / Onboarding: The High-Skill Barrier

If I have one major “dislike,” it’s the support model.

The Reality: This is a self-service platform. During onboarding, I realized there’s no “account manager” to call, and support is strictly ticket-based.

The Risk: Their technical team is knowledgeable, but the lack of immediate phone support means our own team has to be the first line of defense. If you don’t have a solid internal technical lead, the onboarding process may feel a bit “sink or swim.” Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Vultr?

1. The “Guilty by Association” Risk (Account Linking)

This is probably my biggest gripe when doing agency work: Vultr’s fraud detection feels incredibly aggressive.

The problem is that if you’re invited to manage a client’s account and that client later has a payment failure or a TOS violation, Vultr’s automated systems can end up flagging every account linked to that user.

My concern is that I’ve seen situations where a consultant’s personal account was suspended simply because one of their clients’ credit cards expired. It comes across as a “scorched earth” approach to security, and it can put our entire operation at risk because of a third party’s mistake.

2. Rigid “Ticket-Only” Support

When you’re running a mission-critical B2B service, live chat or a phone number isn’t a luxury—it’s a necessity.

The reality is that Vultr sticks strictly to an email-based ticketing system. They’re usually responsive (often within 1–2 hours), but it still lacks the immediacy you need during a production emergency.

There’s also a “script” issue: the first response can sometimes read like a canned template. With complex networking problems, it may take two or three back-and-forth exchanges before you finally reach a senior engineer who truly understands what’s going on.

3. Throttling for “Noisy” Workloads

Vultr is a shared environment (unless you pay for Bare Metal), and they seem very protective of their host nodes.

The issue is that if one of our instances sits at 100% CPU for an extended period—during a heavy data migration, for example, or because of an unoptimized script—Vultr’s automated systems may throttle performance or even suspend the instance to “protect” other users on the same hardware.

For a business, the impact is that it can feel like you’re being punished for using the resources you’re paying for.

4. No Refunds on Credit Balances

Their billing system feels like a “one-way street” when it comes to cash.

What I dislike is that if you deposit $500 into your account and then decide to move the project elsewhere, that money is effectively gone. Vultr generally does not offer refunds on “Account Credit.” It’s an old-school policy that feels a bit “anti-consumer” in an era where flexible cloud billing is the norm.

5. Lack of “Managed” Guardrails

Vultr provides the “raw metal,” but offers almost no help with securing it.

The reality is that, unlike managed providers, Vultr won’t warn you if your firewall is misconfigured or if your OS is out of date. If you get hacked due to a simple oversight, the solution is often just to null-route your IP (take you offline) until you fix it yourself. For a small business without a dedicated sysadmin, that’s a lot of weight to carry. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Vultr solving and how is that benefiting you?

1. The “Opacity” Problem (Pricing)

The Problem: With AWS or Azure, our monthly bill was a 50-page document packed with “micro-charges” for every API request, data transfer, and IP address. That level of granularity made it nearly impossible to budget confidently for the next quarter.

How Vultr Solves It: Vultr uses a flat, predictable billing model with clearly defined monthly caps.

The Benefit to Us: Financial predictability. I can tell our CFO exactly what our infrastructure will cost six months from now. We’ve eliminated “bill shock” and saved our finance team roughly 10 hours a month that used to go toward invoice auditing.

2. The “GPU Scarcity” Problem (AI Scaling)

The Problem: As we integrated AI into our workflow, we found that getting on-demand access to high-end GPUs like the NVIDIA H100 or B200 on major clouds often required massive “reserved instance” commitments or six-figure upfront deposits.

How Vultr Solves It: They offer Cloud GPU access on a much more accessible, on-demand basis.

The Benefit to Us: Agility. We can spin up a cluster of NVIDIA GPUs to train a model for three days, then shut it down. We’re getting “Tier 1” AI power without the “Tier 1” corporate red tape, which lets our dev team iterate 2x faster.

3. The “Legacy Speed” Problem (Performance)

The Problem: Many “affordable” clouds rely on older, virtualized hardware that suffers from “noisy neighbor” syndrome, where our performance would dip simply because another company on the same server was busy.

How Vultr Solves It: Their VX1 and High-Frequency tiers utilize latest-gen AMD EPYC™ Genoa processors and NVMe storage.

The Benefit to Us: A consistent user experience. Our application response times stayed flat even during high-traffic periods. Since switching, our Largest Contentful Paint (LCP) improved by 25%, which directly correlates to better SEO and higher user retention for our platform.

4. The “Latency” Problem (Global Expansion)

The Problem: We have clients in emerging markets like South Africa and parts of South America where the “Big Three” clouds often have limited presence or extremely high “regional” pricing.

How Vultr Solves It: They have 32+ global data centers in strategic locations that others often ignore.

The Benefit to Us: Global parity. We can deploy an instance in Johannesburg or Osaka just as easily as New York. That helps ensure our global users get the same “instant” feel, regardless of where they’re logging in from.

5. The “Complexity Tax” (Management)

The Problem: Major clouds have become so complex that you practically need a “Certification” just to open a firewall port.

How Vultr Solves It: They provide a 60-second deployment UI and a “flat” management console.

The Benefit to Us: Reduced talent costs. I don’t need to hire a $150k/year “Cloud Architect” just to manage our servers. Our existing developers can handle the infrastructure themselves through Vultr’s clean API and Terraform integrations, keeping our team lean and focused on our product. "Misleading Tokyo latency - 0.14ms advertised, 2.7ms delivered"

1/5

What do you like best about Vultr?

Fast API for server provisioning - bare metal deploys in ~5 minutes.

Good documentation and responsive support team. Competitive pricing

for bare metal servers ($185/mo for Intel E-2286G). Clean control

panel and straightforward billing. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Vultr?

Misleading latency testing for Tokyo region. Support tested from

their TY6 datacenter showing 0.14ms to AWS - but customers cannot

access TY6. After 4 bare metal deployments, all landed in TY11

with 2.7-4ms latency (20x worse).

Key issues:

- No way to select specific datacenter location

- No plans to expand TY6 capacity

- No notification system for preferred locations

- Support tests from infrastructure unavailable to customers

For latency-sensitive applications in Tokyo, this is a dealbreaker.

Wasted significant time and money discovering all servers route

through external ISPs instead of direct AWS peering. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Vultr solving and how is that benefiting you?

Vultr aims to solve fast bare metal and cloud deployment globally

with API-first approach. The provisioning speed is genuinely good -

servers ready in minutes, not hours.

However, for my use case (low-latency trading infrastructure in Tokyo),

Vultr did NOT solve the problem. I needed sub-millisecond latency to

AWS Tokyo. Support demonstrated 0.14ms from their TY6 facility, but

all my deployments landed in TY11 with 2.7-4ms latency.

Benefit realized: None. Ended up staying with AWS EC2 which provides

1.2-1.7ms - better than what Vultr could deliver despite costing less.

Vultr may work well for general hosting, but for latency-critical

applications in Tokyo, the inability to select datacenter location

makes it unsuitable. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Effortless and Scalable Cloud Hosting with Vultr"

5/5

What do you like best about Vultr?

I use Vultr to run a server in the cloud for an IoT invention, and it was an easy setup. I really like that it's consistent on uptime, has a server viewer, and I can SSH into the server since I'm comfortable with the command line. The setup offered me a choice of operating systems, like Ubuntu LTS, and I was able to harden my server and set up the necessary MQTT protocol quickly, sending data within about an hour. What stands out for me is that Vultr is cost-effective and scalable, making it the best solution for what I'm doing. I moved away from HiveMQ due to cost issues and considered Digital Ocean, but chose Vultr for its cost and functionality. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Vultr?

The server viewer, very small, I use SSH. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Vultr solving and how is that benefiting you?

Vultr solves my issues of using software with hardware monitoring, helps retrieve data, offers uptime consistency, SSH capability, quick setup, cost-effectiveness, and scalability. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Transparent Pricing and Effortless Server Management"

4.5/5

What do you like best about Vultr?

What I appreciate about Vultr is that, as a user, I have robust access to my servers. The pricing is transparent, and the platform is straightforward and user-friendly, featuring a well-designed interface that makes the experience enjoyable. Additionally, installing and setting up services is very easy. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Vultr?

There are a few challenges when you encounter an issue, and it can be a bit frustrating since support is ticket-based and there is no option for instant call assistance. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Vultr solving and how is that benefiting you?

Vultr addresses the challenges of complex and costly cloud infrastructure. Many cloud platforms offer powerful features, but they are often difficult to navigate, require significant time to manage, and can lead to unpredictable expenses.

Vultr makes things easier by providing simple, affordable cloud servers that are quick to deploy and straightforward to manage.

Personally, this allows me to launch servers rapidly, maintain predictable costs, and dedicate more time to developing and operating my applications rather than wrestling with complicated cloud setups.

I appreciate having complete control over performance and security without the burden of enterprise-level complexity, which ultimately saves me both time and money. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Flexible and Cost-Effective Hosting Solution"

4/5

What do you like best about Vultr?

I like Vultr because of the affordability. I can spin up really small servers that could cost as low as $5 a month or even $2.5 for tiny servers. This is great when I have a bit of work or testing to do for software. I can test it and then destroy the server after that. They also have a variety of images like Ubuntu, LAMP stack, or OpenVPN, which are ready to go. I just select it at the time of creating the server, click create, enter some SSH keys, and it’s good to go. The server is ready with the selected image in no time and it’s fantastic. Vultr gives pre-installed software if you choose, which saves a lot of time compared to a clean install from other providers. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Vultr?

I think one aspect that I don't like about Vultr is that after spinning up the server, the initial wait time is a bit longer, I feel. But that's understandable considering there is so much that goes into building a new server.! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Vultr solving and how is that benefiting you?

I use Vultr for affordable server hosting with flexible billing that allows hourly usage without strings attached. It's easy to spin up servers for small tasks, saving time with pre-installed software options, making it more convenient than Linode, AWS or Google Cloud. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Not For Hackathons"

1/5

What do you like best about Vultr?

It's cheap. It's terraform registry docs are pretty good. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Vultr?

It's 100% NOT Hackathon friendly. We got flagged for credit verification. Typically no biggie. It suspends numerous functions, to the point of not being able to configure your API key(s) or even look at the Load Balancer UI. The bad part is that you CANNOT get this resolved in a weekend, since support works normal operating hours which is not compatible with weekend 36-hour hackathons. Using VULTR was an MLH funded track and yet I did not see them fit for Hackathons

It's also missing KMS/KeyVault Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Vultr solving and how is that benefiting you?

It's cheap. UI is simpler than Azure/AWS, since it has way less services to provide. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Hundreds of Servers Experience"

5/5

What do you like best about Vultr?

I don't need to talk to support. They self-serve and easy to understand and deploy infrastructure is amazing. The few times I do needed to talk to someone, they went above and beyond to help me solve what was not really in their scope. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Vultr?

The server monitoring lacks information, so I usually solve that by installing a third party monitoring app. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Vultr solving and how is that benefiting you?

I first started using Vultr to solve safety, reliance and speed issues with my clients. To host WordPress and Mautic servers its like a dream.

But nowadays I have VPNs (in different countries) , virtual servers (think Linkedin outreach) and different servers for different purposes. I actually remember a few years ago spinning up a server to play Minecraft with my brother for a day. I love how easy they make to create servers. The VPN, for example, its a few clicks away and you also receive instructions on how to use it. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
